1. I am slowly puking my way through the relic quest. Send help.
2. IT STARTS.
3. QUACK QUACK. Saw you in the Quicksand today. Was thoroughly amused. Welcome to the community! (nice thread title)
4. Thekla is in the tavern in Gridania for most of the day today, for any latecomers. <3
5. TASK ONE Mail has been sent! See you at the Canopy!
6. Well, the jobs DO give significant stat bonuses over their classes... but that doesn't sound like it was the issue. Bad aggro management.
7. UPDATE! This event "starts" tomorrow! Everyone on both the participants' and assistants' list will be receiving a PM tonight that details what they should look forward to. Most if not all of the participants will be meeting with Thekla for the first time tomorrow, in-game at the Canopy. She will be haunting the place from late morning straight through the afternoon until roughly 5:30 PM PST. Hope to see you all in-game! EDIT: Remind that participants, FCs, assistants, w/e... you're all free to hop in and get involved whenever. <3
8. I'm... not seeing the issue. Never heard of Common Core (at least, not by that name), but from what I'm reading here it's basically mental approaches to math recorded as formulaic strategies. If I see a problem that goes, "1000 - 865 = ?", my brain doesn't sit there and do 1000 - 865 135 No, my brain goes "well it's 200 to get from 800 to 1000, but adding 200 to 865 gets me 1065 so really I need to subtract 65 from 200. 60 from 200 is 140 and I still have another 5 to take away so that's 135". And my brain does that really, really fast, without even really thinking about it. ...if that's really all that Common Core is, then I don't see the problem with it, save that it looks really convoluted when written down.
9. Cutting corners by reusing assets to lessen workload and subsequently lessen man-hours to stay within one's budget is a production matter, and it's a fact that it happens. Otherwise every new set of class-specific gear would be unique. I get irked when people handwave that with, "oh but it looks good, so it's okay". Pet peeve of mine, was raised as a perfectionist so "cutting corners" to me is just another way of saying "half-assing it". I get prickly over such things. Meant no offense. "Apologist" literally means someone who defends something in the face of a critique. *shrugs* pssst, monks have been in the same boat as tanks since 2.4 hit and all of their gear that wasn't AF, myth, or PVP Hawkwing was given to NIN. legit griping, ahoy.
10. From left to right: NIN, DRG, Healers, ???, ???, MNK, Tanks Hard to tell whether the Miqo'te or the Highlander is the BRD. My personal opinion about these gear is that they seem to be a bit too similar to 2.4 gears and seem extremely lazy. NIN/MNK above looks same and if Roe's outfit is BRD or DRG... that's a bit of disappointing too. They just seem color changed and nothing really different. Likewise for the casters in the middle. I hope crafting gears will make up the designs at least. (and is that a bucket helmet for the tank?) I don't think it's so much as a lazy similarity than it is just them sticking to a job aesthetic. In fact, it's pretty sweet that they let us get the gear from those Qarn guys, in addition to giving us those sweet MNK/DRG/NIN sets. For dungeon gear it looks great! I'm so used to getting stupid looking clown-suits from dungeons in other games, I think this is a treasure. It fits Eorzea well, and the characters look snazzy. I can't wait to collect my sets. Giving us the Qarn gear is sweet, but I'm in agreement with Aldotsk that creating one set of models for a single gear set and then simply recoloring that set to come up with two more (and recoloring old headgear pieces to include in the new sets to make them "different") is the definition of lazy. Job aesthetic? What job aesthetic? All three feature the same unbuttoned/unfastened shirt, same gloves, same pants, same boots. There's nothing in there that screams "MONK!" or "DRAGOON!" or "NINJA!" to me. The only reason we even have reasonable guesses as to which is which is because the headgear differs (eyepatches are the usual headgear for monks in XIV, masks for dragoons). They're cutting corners so that their costs in pumping out new assets don't climb higher than they can afford. No need to be an apologist about it. It's just the way it is.
11. Better yet... A confirmation window will now be displayed when summoning a chocobo companion while registered for duties via the Duty Finder. Broken English there, but that sounds like you'll be able to register and queue for duties with your chocobo out. Jumped the gun, just a window that alerts you that you're about to break queue by summoning your chocobo.
12. Additional buildings have been constructed in Revenant's Toll (X:21 Y:5) and (X:22 Y:5). MOTHERF***ING HIGHLIGHT OF THIS GODS DAMNED PATCH!
13. I was thinking more along the lines of, "you must defeat Greg before your party incurs sixty deaths", but I like your idea better. ...uhhh, Arachne Shirt of Striking? Helloooooooo?~ *knocks on door*
14. Double post. Delete option for users, FreelanceWizard pls.
15. Dat time limit. From left to right: NIN, DRG, Healers, ???, ???, MNK, Tanks Hard to tell whether the Miqo'te or the Highlander is the BRD.
16. Thanks Sounsyy, hadn't occurred to me that the prongs retract on the Obelisk the way the blades do on the Rampager and Mailbreaker. In hindsight, it should have. >_>
17. WHAT IS THAT SPEAR. I WANT IT. If the answer is "Adders GC weapon" I'mma have to shank a Wood Wailer. Delial is a big softie, but you didn't hear it from me...!
18. Let's also not forget that XIV's fictional setting allows for Square-Enix to portray the extremes, good and bad, of a capitalist culture through Ul'dah. I doubt anyone takes issue IC or OoC with the merits of a system that allows you to earn a good living, a good standing, etc. What many take issue with ICly, and some take issue with OoCly, are the negative facets: that the Monetarists have become so affluent as to control the Syndicate and thereby monopolize power and wealth to the detriment of the lesser folk. This is the crux of the Royalist vs. Monetarist conflict as portrayed in the MSQ, of course (otherwise known as "Nanamo and Raubahn vs. Everyone on the Syndicate other than Godbert"). For a real-life comparison: the government, news media, and education systems of the U.S.A. are fond of toting "The American Dream," the ability to earn your success through hard work and entrepreneurial initiative, as one of most praiseworthy aspects of the country... despite how rare it actually is for someone to break through economic class barriers to such an extreme as to go from "rag-to-riches," largely in part due to suppressive measures from above. EDIT: Telluride kinda beat me to it.
19. Already had one, sadly. Wonder if Nat is still working on it. Least, I think it was Nat. I don't rightly remember who made the thread.
20. "The trouble with noble houses is that the extents of their influence oft lend them a robust health that's quite damnable to those who wish 'em ill. Not t'mention the bit where they backtrace your efforts and then set their own men t'slitting your throat. Gettin' it done in one night, though - and I'm assumin' without preparation time - well," The former assassin grinned. "that's why you find yourself a few rival houses and set them up to do your dirty work for you." He started counting off on his fingers, extending each digit as he did so. "Three things a noble house has goin' for them: coin, allies, and 'respectability'... let's be honest and just call that last one 'reputation'. You hit all three hard and fast, and they rarely recover. No need to tear their halls down, or stick each 'n' every pig livin' in 'em. Make 'em look too big for their britches, and they do that to themselves." Osric threw back the rest of his glass, then turned it upside-down and placed it back on the table. Then, from beneath various layers of fabric and leather, he drew knives two at a time, pinning each point-first into the wood around the tumbler. "You get enough houses to turn on your target, and they're as good as done. Find out which houses they're on the outs with, then send a different messenger 'round t'each house, tell 'em the messenger's from another o' those same houses, and that a mutual interest is shared in putting a rival out o' business. The proposal put to each is simple: a series of failed assassination attempts on the household heads, staged in concert, will do in the target's reputation, evidence of guilt to be planted by an anonymous party, that bein' yours truly and his friends' 'friends' in the Blades and other such establishments. Best part is, the rival houses won't even care that the messengers ain't from their fellows, so long as the effort is real and there's profit to be had." The sergeant shrugged. "Course, that evidence I mentioned won't be limited t'just us sneakin' in and leavin' behind forgeries and such, oh no. Research the job ahead o' time, that's always the way, and that'll be enough t'approach the target that mornin' with some bauble or another that they'd be willin' to part with coin for. Some knickknack for their child, perhaps, or some quantity of goods they go in for as commodities. Simple transaction... 'cept that'll look all kinds o' suspicious in hindsight." He poked at the knives' hilts, one by one, and listened to the wood creak. "Suspicion breeds fear, 'n' fear brings out the claws. Those 'allies' of theirs might stand aside - understandable, no noble wants that much pressure on their own neck for the sake of another's, especially when a few o' those assassinations weren't staged save for their paperwork - or they might stand together. Might even turn on the target, with the right incentive, that bein' coin or rights to trade routes or whatever the case might be. Don't matter in the end. What matters is that the target comes out the lesser for it, and trust me, if they're having t'splurge on expenditures t'keep from goin' under, they'll lose that weight in coin. Hells, it doesn't even matter if they win out against their rivals; they'll still come out the aggressors, and that'll ruin them, unite others against them." Melkire raised his eyes to meet Lazarov's again. "Ain't nothin' so devastatin' to a house o' nobles as bein' turned on, and havin' nowhere and no one t'turn to. My contacts and I - Blades, Flames, beggars, huntresses, and more, dependin' on how much time y'give me in advance, and no, I ain't giving you names, you know how this works - we can execute somethin' on this scale in a night. The damage and repercussions will persist forever."
