1. I'd say get multiple people to work for the Lantern, if you can. Say one person per major city/RPing locale per server? I'd volunteer but my character's not in a position where he has enough flexibility or free time to dedicate to something like journalism.
2. I can't speak for everyone, but in my opinion solo roleplay is both perfectly acceptable and feasible. Solo roleplay is a huge factor when it comes to the "always IC" style of roleplay, as those players aren't always engaged with other PCs but still make the effort to act IC at all times, even when alone (no silly WoW-esque bunnyhopping, for instance). I personally enjoy solo roleplay as an alternative to arranging/"scripting" encounters with /tells, as it makes roleplay feel more natural or "organic". Throwing around custom emotes while solo roleplaying is basically tantamount to throwing a giant sign over your character's head that reads "HEY, I'M IN CHARACTER, FEEL FREE TO WALK UP". It's an open invitation to anyone in your general vicinity. The trouble, more often than not, is finding people who have the time or the sheer cajones to follow up on said invitation. EDIT: NIN'd, Brynn and Ciel beat me to it.
3. I kept wanting to tell Zachary to put some clothes on every time he passed by, but that guy walks waaaaay faster than I can type my custom emotes. All of my terribly low-res pictures are taken au naturel. You get zero warning. :cactuar:
4. That's what you get for being all suspicious-like right next to a security officer. That said, I totally did not expect Xydane to walk off and gank someone. State functions, eh? Ain't complete without at least one surreptitious murder. And there I was, stalking him 'til he left, too.
5. What's it look like when two people eavesdrop on the same exact target at the same exact time, you ask? A little something like this: Kiht and Xydane, ladies and gentlemen, in the most passive-aggressive eavesdropping competition to ever take place in Eorzea. GLORIOUS LALAS. (Apologies for the absolutely atrocious resolutions)
6. Gah, I'm still in transit. Move faster, municipal bus. D=
7. The gauze was at the very bottom, beneath a bundle of haphazardly strewn clothes. Osric sighed. I hate doing this. Hate it. But if it works on wanted street urchins from Limsa.... He set his jaw and rose to his feet slowly, taking in one last look before turning to the burly Ala Mhigan standing beside him. "Private Lancaster." The new recruit snapped a crisp salute. "Yes, Sergeant!" The hells am I doing? This cully has two fulms and at least sixty ponzes on me. The hells am I doing? What he was doing was hooking the handle of the footlocker by the tip of his right boot and lifting it off the floor, ever so slowly.... "Private, does this look organized to you? Does this look like it meets regulations, to you?" "No, si-" Osric snapped his right foot up, and the near side of the footlocker jumped four fulms into the air, just enough for the sergeant to lean back, place the sole of that same boot against the locker's underside, and kick out, sending the contents flying as the box slammed back onto the floor, right-side down. "NO, IT GODS-DAMN DOESN'T, DOES IT?" Lancaster's mouth fell open as his eyes tracked the footlocker. Now. Do it now, before that legendary highlander rage sets in and you wake up tomorrow missing half your face or worse. Osric stepped forward, looked up into the big man's face, and set his voice to growling. "Private Lancaster. Private Gregson has been grievously injured in the line of duty, and has been hauled back to the barracks. The medics have their hands full, and he needs immediate attention. Where is your gauze, soldier?" He could hear Gregson shuffling behind him. By the Twelve, please be standing at attention by the time I turn around. One dressing-down is enough for today. Please. "I... I don't know, sir. Somewhere on the floor, sir." "That's right, Lancaster. Regulations exist for a reason. If your gear isn't squared away per said regulations, they might as well be somewhere on the gods-damned floor. Bloody well right, because if this wasn't a hypothetical, Gregson might have bloody well bled out by now, you-" "Chief Sergeant Melkire." Osric paused, still glaring up into the private's face through his pock-marked mask. He pivoted his hips and turned his head to find Lieutenant Peak waiting for him. He glanced back to Lancaster. "Have this sorted out before I get back." He stepped over to Peak and saluted. "Sir." The Roegadyn - always an odd sight here - passed a couple of sealed scrolls over to him. "Orders from Commander Swift. We're assigning additional men to the security detail at the Royal Ball tonight, to relieve those stationed there. You know, cycle in some fresh eyes, keep everyone alert, the usual. Your name came up. Corporal Kokojo will look after things here for you while you're away. Go now." Osric snorted. This should have been Blades' work... but then, the General likely wasn't comfortable with the thought of Monetarist lackeys anywhere near the Sultana. A quick nod and salute, and then he was passing Peak by, heading out of the barracks, heading for Hustings Strip and the Chamber of Rule....
8. You've nothing to apologize for, I'm just trying to help. Trust me when I say that I understand how it feels to be thinking along the lines of, "why don't people RP with me/my character?" I'd also suggest taking up Koninbeor's advice. See if you can't get into some play-by-post RP and the like, as there's no "we both have to be available at the same time to RP together!" factor involved in play-by-post.
9. With regards to whether K'aworu is interesting or not, just a couple of things I noticed while skimming through the wiki entry really quickly: 1. Where's the character's motivation? Character development is usually what brings said character to life, and that's usually driven by a number of motives. Either I missed it while skimming (my bad!) or else it's nonexistent. 2. You have to be really, really, really careful about (and/or skilled with) roleplaying a character with negative social traits such as clinginess, shyness, lack of sense of self-worth, or loopiness. The same traits that discourage people IRL from socializing with someone more often than not can also extend to RP. It's this awkward position where you're trying to play an archetype that by definition is self-limiting. E.g. if I'm not in the mood to listen to some crazy cloudcuckoolander on the bus in the morning on the way to work, I'm not likely to care for it in my RP where I'm supposed to be relaxing and enjoying myself. E.g. The mopey kid who's no fun to hang out with IRL? Probably no more fun to hang out with a mopey kid in RP. It's a hard thing to play as, and unfortunately I've noticed that it puts some people off.
10. Event starts at 3PM Pacific, yes. It's been corrected in the original post of this thread but not in the Events posting that can be reached from the front page.
11. Speaking as someone who has recently been trying to branch out as far as roleplay connections are concerned, I cannot stress the above enough. Spontaneous RP is like casting a line into a still pond. You might get a bite, and you might get what you were after, but there are so many factors beyond your control that you're better off rigging the game by going to the market and straight-out buying the fish you want for dinner. The trick is, as others have said, to "throw yourself out there", which more or less boils down to exposure. The more often you're around, the more likely you'll run into familiar faces, the more chances you'll have to break out into roleplay (this step really depends on you to be proactive), the more familiar your respective characters will get, and thus the more likely that you'll break into OOC discussion that'll lead to something more solid and lasting. Tavern-lurking is just a small part of this. Send tells. Walk up to roleplayers who invite walk-ups in their search info. Attend events. Sign up for activities and storylines. Join linkshells. Bounce around some FCs if need be (but at least give them the courtesy of a heads-up that you're doing so). To expand on the "wallflower" idea: people aren't looking to roleplay with People-to-Whom-Interesting-Things-Happen, they're looking to roleplay with Interesting-People-to-Whom-Things-Happen. Meaning, if you're looking to roleplay as a passive observer, no one is going to go out of their way to invite or include you, because bystanders are boring and might as well be NPCs (harsh but true). If, however, you're proactive about roleplaying (even if you're roleplaying solo, say running around Pearl Lane hunting for some kitten that a client has hired you to catch, stopping occasionally to ask PCs if they've seen said kitty), people will take notice because you're an active, dynamic element rather than a NPC-esque wallflower. As for social anxiety, there shouldn't be. That's one of the marvels of the internet: anonymity gives you the freedom that is lack of repercussions. You can be more forward and bold without having to worry, because unless you go out of your way to share your personal details with them, these people are people you'll never meet or have to deal with in real life. It's a mindset thing, and it's something that takes effort and getting used to (I still suffer on occasion from extreme bouts of shyness where I cannot bring myself to send a /tell to someone I've never spoken with before... despite their search info encouraging me to do so). ...so yeah.
12. This sounds really fun, I'd love to participate. Just in case I don't catch either of you in-game today with a /tell, please put Osric down under the "heroes" column.
13. >BAG >BICYCLE OAK: THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO USE THAT! >BAG >BICYCLE OAK: THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO USE THAT! >BAG >BICYCLE OAK: THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO USE THAT! ...back in my day there was no Anarchy, so we made do. 'ello, Avalt! Feel free to hit me up for RP whenever, I'm usually online from 7pm Pacific onwards.
14. Place your camera along a wall, column, or other object with collision data. Then move your character closer to that point. Or vice-versa, move close to an object with collision data and then position your camera between it and your toon. This effect is actually most noticeable when you're seated and you rotate the camera to view yourself from your chair / your bench / the column directly off to one side / the bar / etc. I'm terrible at taking screens, though, maybe someone else with more experience/knowledge can chip in.
15. On this note, I highly recommend both Equilibrium and the Hildibrand quest line. The former is an excellent B-rated action flick in which Sean Bean dies, and the latter is an excellent comedy in which someone who vaguely resembles Sean Bean fails to die. ...spoilers, I guess.
16. This is my go-to getup and what I'll be wearing to the ball. Open invitation to the Flames: anyone who'd like to join me in having loads of fun by pretending to not have fun, get yourselves one of these! We'll stand around in uncomfortable leathers, mope about how we're stuck on-duty, pat down any suspicious characters, comment on all the latest fashions, and maybe even make fun of Kage's height compared to his date's. ...I kid, I kid. I'll make sure any screens I cap don't cut off your head, Kage.
17. I had to look this card up, it's been so long. "Adds 3 mana of any single color of your choice to your mana pool, then is discarded." You bastard, lol.
18. What is Google? I'll take Tools that Make Life Easy for 200, Alex. http://xivmodels.com/ Hey guess what, I goggled it and didn't find anything like this. Or nothing that actually worked. Granted may have used the wrong keyterms, but nothing I came across what helpful because mostly blank pages or forums with people asking about clothing viewers and dating back from 1.0. New game. They don't even have a item preview in the game yet, so wasn't surprised But thanks for the unnecessary attitude and the site that really isn't helpful at all Load models with the dropdowns. Click-and-drag to rotate. Shift-click and control-click are for panning and zooming, I forget which is which. If you have a script-blocker like NoScript, you may have to temporarily allow the entire page. Apologies if my jesting came across as offensive, that wasnt the manner in which it was intended.

20. Card games, board games, you name it, if Osric can play for winnings, he'll play. No dicing, though. There's no skill to be found there, no way to tip the odds in his favor without cheating (but if he has to cheat you, he will). Likewise for any gambling that's left up to sheer luck. He also reads really trashy fiction novels, but he'll never own up to it. Never. The former hobbies I've alluded to on occasion; for the latter, I need to level ACN more to get him into some vanity gear.
21. Stand near or on your bed and hit /doze? I'm not familiar with every race/gender combination, so I'm not sure if any are missing the /doze feature for house beds...
22. We still need a kneeling pose for everyone who isn't a male Miqo'te or a female highlander. Irritating that there's no "hold" modifier for emotes, would be useful for /kneel and /pray, as well as facial expressions like /annoyed. Hopefully we'll get something along those lines. Super excited about this tidbit: Getting to choose our default poses? Yesssssssss.
23. Truly, the Roulette is an amazing thing. Good to see that you're on Balmung! And now, back to our scheduled programming. EDIT: Just noticed that the times are off in the original post and event listing. 6PM Eastern works out to 3PM Pacific, not 4PM.
24. It ain't the breasts. That said... terrible English VA, no personality, always pestering you long distance (why do I need to come back to the Waking Sands to discuss things with you when we have Bluetooth, girl?), and all that jazz.
25. "Opopo Gangnam Style". I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.
