The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Rakoh replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
There's a time and a place to go full STR on a tank. Main tanking a fight is not the right time or place. -
I like being able to represent things on my character well but it's not entirely necessary for me personally. I have an alt that is a fantastic fencer but she's only Lv10 Gladiator. Doesn't' stop it from being fun to RP. Rahal is ICly a Dark Knight but that doesn't stop him from other characters higher level than him deferring to him when it comes to thier interest in those matters. Reiko's a good all round mage, specialising in elemental magic, technically lorewise she should not be a Thaumatuge as they are more like Necromancers and preists of you actually read the lore, but I can represent the flashy elemental attacks better with Black Mage. Personally for me: OOC achievements to match IC is something nice to have, but I won't lose sleep over not having them yet,

Machinists that use Blank. White Mages that use Fluid Aura. Summoners that don't understand the basic concepts of pet micro (And that Ifrfit is flat out better in dungeons anyway, plus he's safe to leave on Sic. Seriously, Ifrit is a cool guy). I have a macro for this, warning that the use of the above abilities will result in them becoming the new tank when on DRK (Rahal) or WAR (Reiko), but there are some people that just refuse to listen, kick the mob out from under me, then whine when I can't get aggro back on said mob in less than 1 GCD because I'm too busy dodging the AoE I could have just simply stunned. Machinists and WHMs tend to be worst for it. It seems WORSE at Lv60 because ERMERGERD MAH DEEPS MATTER IN TRIVIAL CONTENT LIKE ESXPUUURTS. I WANT TO PUT THIS ONE EXAMPLE OF A HIGH PARSE ON REDDIT GAAAAAAAIS! Oh I might as well add: Scholars that leave Selene on Sic when a silence is needed (Or Scholars that leave the pets on auto in general) White Mages that spam Holy when a stun is needed. *Attack still goes off because of the above SCH* -
The Aldgoat Tribe of Thanalan place great reverence upon their totem animal the Aldgoat. It is thier belief that the Aldgoat posses considerable arcane power and incredible intellect. It is also believed that thier horns are used to balance spellbooks from which they use to cast. For this reason Aldgoat horns are highly prized, and used by tribal Shamans in thier casting Foci, and thier huntresses weapons.

Reiko has severe entomophobia and arachnophobia. This included vilekin. Her reaction is usually to run the fuck away. When force to fight she tends to use the most comically overkill spell and can come up with when dealing with them.

It's worst when you have that one healer that won't cleanse the bomb debuff. As a BLM I have to remain completely still, and I'm not going to move and lose Stacks and Enochian and 60% of my damage along with it for a full 30 seconds because a healer won't do thier job and use cleanse. These are usually the same healers that whine about running OOM because it's taking too long to die as well. I've last count of the number of times someone has been blown into the mines because it wasn't cleansed on me or someone (usually the healer) spends the full 30 seconds of the bomb debuff blasting people into the mines/shinies, then rages at people for "running into things". -
The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
Rakoh replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Again I was listing that as the cause. Not assigning blame. It doesn't matter if the connections were from the US, Europe, Japan, or fucking Narnia. The game has a huge wave if requests to the server coming in at once when it was already at capacity. The datacentre crashing effected everyone because you know, people in game reporting Error 90k? -

Where in my post was I blaming anyone? I was just stating a fact. Server is full of Players from Timezone A players playing during Timezone A Prime time, which is also during the weekend so players from Timezone B are around as well. Suddenly a huge wave of incoming players from BOTH Timezone B and Timezone C flood the server with requests. Sever is overloaded, Server stops accepting requests. Lots of players get 90k Error. Where in my post was I saying "It's the fault of NA players"? -

It's called the Americans all hitting the server at once. A huge wave of server requests is difficult to really deal with. If you have done any sort of network or server related work you will know that there's really not much you can do another having a massive wave of incoming requests at once outside of refusing new requests entirely. It doesn't matter what you do, it will never be enough. The server is still up, it just allows very limited connections though the Lobby Server and again to the Game Server. Be patient, take a walk, speak to your family. Things will be working as normal once people stop hammering the servers. -
The Confession Room - Share your tales of your own derps here

In SWTOR I had a bit of a reputation as "The Pantsless DPS" for reasons you can imagine. Speaking of SWTOR, one of my best moments of derp was forgetting that if you hit an ability, you automatically cast it on the nearest target if one is not selected. Well I accidentally hit Force Lightning while standing near Dreadtooth with 10-15 (I can't remember the exact number) stacks which wiped all three of the raid groups we had put together to kill it. Back to FFXIV: I once ran through all of T5 as a single Tank WAR without Defiance on and somehow stayed alive, right up until the Hatch Phase here I exploded to a Death Sentence hitting immediately after a Hatch. Oh, there was the time in Snowcloak, first boss, where I was on BLM, explaining the fight and stressing the importance of killing Bombs.n Guess who started to tunnel vision and forget all about the bombs? This guy! The first time I did World of Darkness on the day it launched, I picked up the Whilrwind debuff on the Dragon boss and wondered why everyone kept running from me. 5 seconds later the entire raid went up into the air and most of them ended up frozen to the floor. -
"I don't believe this happened and you must have done something to make it your fault!" Is all I'm getting from this post. Sorry but have you any idea now very condescending and rude what you just said is? if you want me to violate the forum ToS and name and shame that's one thing. If you genuinely believe that harassment is the fault of the person getting said harassment? That is another thing entirely that I have no words for.

I did the Witchdrop thing Lv40 and got punched in the face by the Voidsent at the bottom. It was not pretty. -
So we have the Vent Tent for venting about those times where you run into that terrible PUG player. But what about the times when you were that player? You know the times were you were the one that done fucked it up and caused that wipe. Feel free to share them here. Will start with a couple of mine: I was in a T9 clear group onto the divebombs phase. I ran the wrong way for the second Divebombs and didn't realise until I had Bexy screaming "REEEEIKOOO! WROOOONG WAAAY!" inn complete and utter terror on TS. Another T9 clear group: I tried to be clever and Aetherial Manipulate away from a Meteor. It usually works fine, but this time I hit it a bit too soon and land the meteor on top of someone's head, killing them and wiping us. A was helping a group of people clear Titan HM and was bragging about how easy it is for me to solo heal on SCH. I then got kicked off by the first landslide. Leviathan Ex farm party. I hit the Aetherical Converter too soon. I had the entire group just stare at me awkwardly for a few moments before Leviathan murdered us all. "Don't worry guys! I can Perfect Dodge this laser!" - Rahal on TS shortly before a Particle Beam in World of Darkness

I think I have finally managed to translate Party Finder Language. "Clear Party" = "I don't know how to do this" "Learning Party" = "I really don't know how to do this and don't want to admit it" "Watch a video" = "I really have no fucking clue how to do this and expect you to watch a MrHappy video and explain it all to me" "Looking for a Clear for a Friend = "7 People need the clear and we all don't know what we are doing" "Farm Party" = "Everyone is going to leave after the first clear." "Stay for more than one run" = "I'm going to leave as soon as I win the Pony" iLv120 for a iLv95 Raid = "I want to be carried" "X Strikes = Kick" = "I am going to kick you for my fuck ups" "G>N" = "I am going to need and leave when the thing I want drops" Steps of Faith Clear Party = "I have no friends" "Carry Party" = "I have 7 people that want to be carried by you, an we are too cheap to pay a Merc Group to do it." "3-3-2, Tank Marks" = "I don't know what I am saying and want to sound like I know what I'm doing" "No Sol bonus" = "I'm too cheap to buy a carry" "Extreme Farm Party" = "I still don't have the clear despite this being around since Last Year/1.0, and I'm too afraid to admit it" "X Item Locked" = "I'm going to sit here in PF and refuse to take someone willing to help because they can roll on this item too" "No Timewasters" = I'm going to waste your time and disband the party after 1 wipe." "First time doing this" = "First time doing this." -
There isn't a place like Goldshire in FFXIV, most ERP I have found takes place in FC houses and usually in private rooms. It is a bit of a running joke among the people that I play with that people who spend a bit too much time in a private room "Must be ERPing" and we do tease each other about it . I rarely go to The Quicksand on Reiko anymore unless she is with other people. I have had one to many bad experiences there to the point where the people I play with consider dragging me over there ICly on any character a big deal. When she had short hair I would get constant tells asking if she was a lesbian and bugging me for lesbian catgril ERP, even though 1) Reiko had a boyfriend a the time 2) Her sexuality really isn't something important to the character (Or something I haven't really thought too hard about, and really should not be any character's sole defining trait) given it's completely OOC of her to jump in bed with someone she just met regardless of gender :dodgy: ) . She got the "Lightning Hair" back after growing it out after her friends encouraged her to do so (and being sick of called "boy" by one too many people ICly) and people ask if I'm playing a crossdresser or trangender character because she's extremely slender and slightly androgynous looking in certain clothes worn OOCly (Infantry Shirt, any kind of heavy armour, all baggy clothes) :?. Being there alone on Rahal generally just gets me completely ignored with the odd "Are you playing a trap?" /tell :frustrated:. Yeah okay fine, Rahal being androgynous was deliberate, but still he only wore a dress once, and that was at a themed party, and he is not really interested in men anyway... I've come to the conclusion that The Quicksand is a wretched hive of scum and villainy, where occasionally some idiot might preposition an alone character OOCly for ERP. If you are there with friends, it's a nice little place to Rp. Going there alone? Hoo boy. Also its a quest hub to be ready for trolls. I have found that most FC leaders are quite reasonable if you just send them a /tell to say they have some members trolling RPers. I've only ever had 2 FC leaders be rude or dismissive of it, and I've counted 6 instances of getting an apology from the players I reported to thier FC leader.

Throughout most of history, especially in Europe, around 20 is considered adulthood. Betrothals of children among noble families are of course common among nobles and royalty, as were marriages, but actual sexual activity? Not much as recorded before adulthood. As for commoners? Early 20's again is the most common age according to Church records (you know, the people that would have kept records of Births, Deaths and Marriages before formal Civil Registry Offices came about). Besides, the the whole debate for FFXIV is pointless. It was confirmed at 16 in the Tales of the Calamity journals.

I remember playing with Beta with Nako and good god it was awful back then. Everything instanced and you frequently get stuck on different instances to your friends. I remember the average session went like this> "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Nako? Where are you?" "Reiko? Where are you?" "Okay I see an arrow, where are you Nako?" "I see your arrow too, where are you Reiko?" "Want to play something else?" "Yep!"

Welcome. Also to answer the Guldhest query, they serve more as tutorial fights that introduce players to new mechanics and concepts. The reason why guilds don't focus on them is that there's none past Lv40.

Conjurers don't only heal; the focus to purely healing was a retcon in 2.0. Conjurers are elementalists that are also able heal. While healing is definitely a core aspect of the Conjurer, it is not the only part of them. Easiest way to think of them is like a D&D Druid, without all of the badass shapeshifting. Anyway, there's plenty of people that have Conjurers that specialise in healing so I don't see what the problem is with going for a Conjurer that mostly heals people . As for RPing a WHM, that would be more difficult because the Padjals tightly regulate who they teach. You do have to get creative. Maybe they were exploring Amdapoor and found a Soulstone? Maybe they discovered some ancient tome depicting the techniques? Maybe the character has a deep affinity with the Elementals? Just remember that there will be a LOT of people that would react sceptically to this. There is also absolutely nothing that is stopping you from Roleplaying as "Magic User that can Heal" without going into the THM/CNJ/ACN stuff . It all depends on how your character can use the aether.
-
The Egis that I flare in PvP seem to die pretty quickly to it. I'd imagine that it being a construct of crystals and aether, it would react in much the same way as Golems and Elementals and similar beings that are constructs and/or being born of aether would: Big firey death spell of doom that really effing hurts because it's FLARE.

If you could introduce a certain prop or piece of gear...
Rakoh replied to Caspar's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Actually the cudgels make sense for a rich UlDahn. It's an elegant and fancy looking weapon with the gemstones needed to use it as a casting focus. Of course, real filthy rich Ul'Dahns hire someone else to get blood on them for them. -
This. I go further and think that tendencies of the role play community at large do not change the lore. This means that despite the popularity of some races over others this doesn’t change the lore about those races; Miqo’te males are rare despite their popularity in the community. Literacy is the exception, not the norm, despite most characters being able to read. White Mages are not common, no matter how many people role-play them, etc. I'm sure there are some who disagree and prefer a community generated "continuity", but that style certainly isn't for me. Funny you mention Miqo'te males since I seem to be running into a ton of Lallafel in roleplay lately .

1.0 had a Musketeer's guild but a Gunner class was never implemented. -

To get back on topic. I wouldn't mind being able to play musical instruments like in LOTRO or TESO. Even just having instrument props that you can physically play outside of a house would be fun. -
I have never seen anyone be this ridiculous. I've seen Fantasia used (in my opinion) well, when having a young character add some height (and ahh.. mass, if you know what I mean) over a year and a half. I've ran into a couple and the fights have not been pretty. I've a number of people blacklisted because they were just that militant about never changing anything ever even if it makes sense in the narrative. One person I have on the blacklist blew his top because someone changed hairstyles at the barber NPC As for prosthetics, I'm fairly sure there's some tradecraft quests that mention crafters making components to be used in prosthetic limbs. Can't remember if it was 1.0 or 2.0 though. Either way, if you have done the Carpenter, Goldsmith and Alchemy questlines it's not farfetched for someone to be able to make one that looks pretty normal.
