  1. Same here, but sadly some people are all "You used a Fantasia OOCly! It just have been found and used ICly! You're a Bad RPer!" which is what I dislike.
  2. There was always a running joke in the PLD community in XI about letting them dual wield shields. Anyway seconded with shields. It's always bugged me how they are depicted in games. They are never used properly and just seem to be some fancy arm accessory at best. The only game I've seen them used remotely right is Chivalry and even then it's just simple "Block and Shield Bash" actions with them.
  3. Actually the Lucis Hammers would make pretty good warhammers
  4. This. Just because I prefer practical designs over fantasy designs does not people that other people can't like that. If you get enjoyment from including fantasy designs in your RP then hey, more power to you, go for it . Also for the record, for my favourite fantasy weapons? I love the massive Dao that Xiahou Dun uses in Dynasty Warriors. I also love the swords that Kirito and Asuna use in Sword Art Online. I so also love Frostmourne from the Warcraft series because why not? I like the design and it looks badass. Back on topic, I would actually like more joke weapons. They would be fun.
  5. Yeah we aren't arguing. He's saying "I want this weapon. I'm saying "I'd like more practicable weapons and think these would work better instead."
  6. There's really no difference. An axe is an axe at the end of the day, which is any they were so popular to carry around. Tool that can double up as a perfectly fine weapon? Yeah there's a lot of appeal there and would like up perfectly with someone playing a common soldier for example that maybe can't afford a more expensive weapon. I mean you could have a specially crafted axe for fighting with a better point of balance with the head made of steel, and a nice tough wood (Hickory is tough, but it's not native to Eorzea). But an axe is an axe. It's a simple yet highly effective weapon that actually takes as much skill as a sword to use well.
  7. That's the thing, when people mention farmers fighting with improvised weapons it is usually something like a sickle or pitchfork they grabbed from the field. Or maybe a wooden pole to use as a quarterstaff. Or maybe they fashioned a makeshift spear out of something. Or maybe they even just grabbed a hatchet and started using it like an axe.
  8. Scythes were never used in history as actual weapons. Why use something to impracticable when a Polearm does the same thing? Scythes are just way too unbalanced and top heavy to make an effective weapon. Sickles however? Yes there are plenty of examples in historical manuals depicting various European Martial Arts (usually in Germany and Italy), as well in various Asian Martial Arts (Mostly South East Asia). The point of balance is in a position where they are much more nimble and less tiring to use in combat. EDIT: Also whoever mentioned Chinese Swords? YES! A dozen times yes! I would love to see a good Dao in this game. Dynasty Warriors has me in love with the Dao and the Jian (even if the Jian wasn't used in combat)
  9. Same here Intaki. The problem I have is that a number of people in the RPC bully people over using a meta item to make an IC change to a character that would make sense. Things you need a Fantasia to change: Height Weight/Muscle Mass Chest Size Skin Tone Scars (Might be able to use the Aestheticician for this) Patron Deity Nose shape Eye Colour (Might be able to use the Aestheticician for this) So did you character grow a bit? maybe they lost weight? Maybe they got a suntan or picked up some scares? Maybe their faith changed over thier lifetime? Maybe they got into a fight and receives a broken nose? Yeah prepare to get called "bad RPers" and "Lore breakers" by these people.
  10. Seconding the request for a bigger variety of swords. Rapiers and Sabres would be nice to see. I would love to see a good Kreigsmesser too, we already have Falchions in the game which are basically the same thing so it wouldn't be hard to model one. I'd like to see better daggers too. Daggers look fine until you hit 50, then are fucking odd. The Khanjars, Sasuke's Blades, Yoshimitsu and High Allagan Blades are the only daggers/short swords at 50 that are either functional, or even have actual edges to them. The rest are just strange....
  11. Fantasia (unofficially) confirmed as purely meta, and ways to change appearance are two completely different concepts. People need to remember this being being judgemental about storyline choices.
  12. I remember them joking about locking up kids somewhere safe at the lore panel because of how dangerous Eorzea is
  13. Basically the simple answer: it's not clearly defined but everyone generally lives about the same natural lifespan. Throw in things like Thaumaturgy and Alchemy though and you can see some pretty long lived people.
  14. It does not define how long that is. Given how deadly Eorzea is that can be a year or two To paraphrease the Lord panel at the Vegas fanfest, Eorzea is a dangerous world. a family can go from "Daddy's going to pick an ogre Pumpkin" to "Opps! Daddy got eaten by a Raptor!" to "Guess we don't eat again!" very quickly. IIRC Micheal Christopher Koji Fox pretty much started that not many people live past 30 in Eorzea SvNpO4gy_Tg I'd rather trust Developer word of mouth then a bunch of info that hasn't been updated since 1.0 Beta.
  15. The Lore Panel at the 2014 Las Vegas Fanfest confirmed that all races live to be about the same age.
  16. Sorry about the double post, but I found an excellent write up on the source of a BLM's power: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11519&pid=181211#pid181211 Sounsyy writes it far more eloquently than I can put it, and they also take until account all of the 1.0 Lore as well
  17. Actually most of the BLM questline is fixing that sort of thing. One way a BLM can gain power if through the void, but that is just one way. A good chunk of the THM questline is also about someone that failed to become a THM due to having a tiny aether pool (for lack of a better term), trying to find a way to increase it. The reason why Black Magic and White magic are forbidden is because of the overuse of them. If you want to see a great example of it, go to North Shroud and run to the west exit by Coerthas. That was one of the sites during the War of the Magi. Both Black Magic and White Magic take aether from the lifestream, which kills the land in the process. That area in the North Shroud was a place that has not yet healed, and likely never will due to the Shard of Dalamud there. Even though in the game's storyline, Bahamut is no longer a threat, the corruption caused by the shard being there might have made the damage irreversible. The game never really says. BLM being more forceful? Sure I could see a caster being more forceful, tearing aether from sources would be something a more malevolent, nefarious or even desperate BLM would do. The game has established since the beginning of 1.0 it's possible for people to channel power to each other (Making Yda's Limit Break in the 2.0 ending both possible and awesome, though Limit Breaks in XIV have always worked that way), so tearing power forcibly from an unwilling source would be something there in the Lore. IIRC Ultima Weapon was a warmachine working on that concept.
  18. Oh yes, but I'm also addressing it from a character's perspective. BLM is actually the 'nefarious' aspect, but for the character she'd still be hesitant in learning anything thaumaturgy related. Goody-goody lawful good. Bleh~ Not true. Black Magic is a not a school of magic or really nefarious or malicious. it is a technique that allows the mage to bypass thier own natural aethetic limitations. White mage does the same thing. Thaumaturgy draws upon the aether from within (think D&D Sorcerer) and Conjury just borrows aether from the land (Think Estelle from Tales of Vesperia). Black Magic and White Magic draw upon outside sources. White Mages borrow power from the Elementals (Think D&D cleric), while Black Mages might draw it from the land for example or by using say an item as a vessel for aether, or even attempting by messing around with voidsent. No school of magic is inherently good or evil. Just the user.
  19. Okay so I can finally view this site again because for whatever reason, my usual IP is blocked so I have to connect through a VPN... Been stuck on Divebombs for 13 months now. Clearing this fight has become beyond a joke and I've started to run under the assumption that anyone unable to either give me hard evidence that they can get to Divebombs, or show me T9 gear or Dreadwyrm gear is a liar and hasn't even seen up to Golems. Ingame names are Reiko Takahashi (129 BLM, 129 SCH, 126 SMN, 126 WHM, 110 NIN, 110 WAR) and Rahal Gerrant (106 PLD). I'm experienced to Divebombs on all roles (Caster, Tank, Melee and Healer in order) and generally play Evenings GMT during the week and I'm generally around afternoon to evenings Saturday. Sunday is my only day off work so I prefer to keep that clear. Basically looking for people who are at Divebombs and just want a clear, nothing else. Sorry but I no longer do learning parties unless it is teaching Divebombs (this is non negotiable).
  20. Yay, Rothmoore's events are always fun! Even as a spectator. I could bring in Rahal as a combatant actually since this is definitely up his alley. Reiko would take some convincing as a spectator, but I could have her standing in as an NPC as needed.
  21. 471 is needed for T8 and T9. I have never missed below those numbers
  22. The only advice I can give with Swiftcast use is use your own judgement. Same with holding off on consuming procs. It really depends on what attack is coming next and if you will need to move.
  23. People claim that BLM is the easiest class to learn, but in reality it is the hardest class to play well. You need knowledge of not only the fight but exactly when attacks will happen and where they will end up, and you need very good prediction skills. One thing I will add for you is that due to latency, you can actually begin moving when there is about 0.5 second left on the cast bar. It allows for a lot of clutch casts and lets you really sneak in that extra one. Titan EX is a good example. During double plumes there s enough time to actually get n a spell between each set of plumes before you run. This like Manawall an be useful as well for if you can safely stand in a physical hit and continue to cast. Divebombs on T5 are a good example. Before Manawall got nerfed, BLMs could safely stand to one side and ignore the entire Divebomb mechanic entirely. BLM movement is also something you can only learn. You don't want to be moving for ore than one GCD if you can help it. Sometimes sitting on Thundercloud and Firestarter Procs is necessary to keep up your damage. As a BLM you are less moving and more adjusting position. Put Aetherical Manipulation onto a mouseover macro and SPAM IT. Your recovery from the animation is far shorted than your recovery animation from moving. Also Sprint should ALWAYS be up when you need to move. The sooner you are at your destination before your GCD ends, the less DPS you lose having to use GCDs casting Scathe. Also, I cant believe how many people I see doing this. You should NEVER hard cast Thunder III. It is a DPS loss compared to Thunder II wth a Blizzard I weaved in. Basically in your Umbral Ice Phases you want to do the following Combos depending on your MP: Blizzard III > Thunder II (Thunder III if Thundercloud or Swiftcast is up) > Blizzard I > Fire III Blizzard III > Blizzard I > Thunder II (Thunder III if Thundercloud or Swiftcast is up) > Fire III Blizzard III > Blizzard I > Blizzard I > Fire III If you have to move replace the Blizzards with Scathe. So few BLMs weave in Blizzard I's when there s more then enough time to do it during Umbral Ice phases. You also want your Piety at 251. The best way to do this is put stat points into PIE until you are at 244, and the rest into INT. Losing 1-2 points of INT is nothing as this puts you are 251 PIE with a SCH in the group, which means you get one more Fire I in Astral Fire Phases, and your MP pool is big enough to allow you to weave in a Blizzard in Umbral Ice Phases. This also pretty much makes Spell Speed a junk stat for BLMs that you should only ever be stacking if you are hitting diminishing returns on Crit (and even then DET is flat out better). Also your should be gunning for 460 Accuracy. Anything more or less is a waste in Second Coil. You need 471, and with a HQ Apkallu Omelette you can hit that easily. 460 is your magic number as that 11 Accuracy difference is made up by the food you should be using, and is better spent on an item that further boosts your Crit or DET.
  24. Its good to know that there are plenty of EU players. I've missed Balmung's community. Yes, even the /shout spam and the passive aggressive Party Finder comments. In Odin there is nothing at all, you are lucky to get anything from anyone when trying to speak to them. Of course you also have French players being abusive to people that refuse to speak French on an International Language Server. The only polite people seem to be the Germans, Scandinavians and Brits. It's actually a the point where I no longer queue for English because it will be full of abusive French players that WILL continue to harass you if they find out you're on Odin. On the plus side, my typed German has improved a lot, but they so actually go out of their way to speak Englsh for me so I understand tactics, even though I queued German and speak German Even the spambots don't even make an effort on Odin lol. How are things on weekends EU time because that is when I was thinking of hoping back. I've just about given up on raiding at this point, nobody wants a BLM for T6-9 (even though I have full experience for T6-8, and have every Primal kill done except for Ramuh EX and Moogle EX), so the EU raiding community still being dead doesn't bother me I just want to go back to having fun, and hopefully find my friends I left behind to catch up with them. I'm fairly certain that a few of them still play.
  25. Hi guys, not sure if many people from the RPC remember me but basically I took a break from Balmung for a bit to hop over to Odin due to EU Time Zone raiding here being generally shocking back when I was playing. Basically the EU raid community was spread out far too much and i was nigh impossible to get a good static. So for the last few months I've been on Odin and have still struggled to find a static. It's not just that, the EU Datablock just seems toxic in general and it is nigh on impossible to PUG a single thing without taking a torrent of abuse. So... I was wondering how EU time RP is going on, particularly in the BST/GMT+ time slot :3
