  1. Tabletop gaming, the gold stuff! Welcome to the community, I hope you have lots of fun!
  2. I kind of have this silent rule that I'm biased to healers if I'm not healing. Healing is a very dependable role, and it'd be very difficult to clear a lot of things without a healer (you'd need to be overgeared, REALLY know your class, and overlevel'd most of the time). But that's just me. I do agree there are several different aspects that should go into consideration about your commendation. Communication is a HUGE factor to me, especially in the Hard Mode dungeons like Copperbell where teamwork is key. There would be times I ask "who has the bombs/crystals" and I would get replied by the DPS, and the tank just signs them away. Skill is kind of hard to catch though if you're not using a parser (which can be inaccurate). On a tank though, skill is a little bit more noticeable, you just have to tell if they're holding aggro well or not since that's their job (also, to not die c:). I tend to be biased to tanks as a healer, and healer as a tank or DPS. But there have been some DPS that have impressed me and sneak in my commendation. It also depends if you're in a party with your FC! In dungeons, I sometimes drag two of my FC mates and the fourth person is a DF player. They get to reap all our commendations because heh, that's how the game works. I'm sure they're happy when it does happen, there's something oddly satisfying when you get all the commendations. (Story: a few days ago I joined a Garuda Extreme learning party and taught the WHOLE party their role, and got all seven commendations. I was so excited. I even got my ring. T'was great.)
  3. Cooldown usage is typically used by tanks during a time of very, very high damage due to mechanics or just dangerous attacks(see above: Garuda-Suparna Double Wicked Wheel. That thing will hurt.). If there isn't a period of extremely high damage (which I don't think exists), then cooldowns should just be used if you're below half. At least, that's when I'd use it as a tank. I don't tank often though, so take that opinion with a grain of salt.
  4. I know we're not trying to cause a flamewar (and I'm not either), but I feel like I should expand a bit on the "sexes" part. While this game does have its very fair share of female-male NPCs, and we do have a lot of independent female leads, due to how society works (not going to delve into that any deeper to try to keep this at least as in-topic as possible), games kind of have to abide by the fact that men are workers while women are providers. Granted, this game very loosely ties to that, but the concept is still there. It's only natural that men would feel like other men should be able to stand up to themselves while they feel obligated (at least, most men do. I know Oscare does) to defend a woman if they're in trouble. Again. I am not trying to invite a war to this. Just felt the need that the concept is there, and probably will not disappear. But I will safely say that this game tries to keep it at a bare minimum. Which is a warming thing to know. Edit: I sincerely apologize, from hindsight this came off as sexist. This was not my intention.
  5. gTVFQHuIg2I ...... ...... >_> don't judge me
  6. I feel like a healer's role is the most simple, yet the most depended on in raids and parties. Firstly, healers do not have a rotation. This already makes their role a little easier to grasp, they just need to look at the situation, look at their resources, and make the most effective judgement to keep the party alive. Of course, there are don'ts in being a healer, such as White Mage, please do not keep spamming Cure III unless the target really desperately needs it. @_@ It's really not necessary and it just ends up being an MP sink. I concur with Eva and Freelance, the healer is supposed to adapt and be aware of the situation, unlike tanks and DPS who are more focused on being aware on their positioning and debuffs and DoTs. Secondly, if anyone ever expects you to DPS as a healer, punch them in the face. Or, do /slap one we get that. Because that is BY far the DUMBEST thing any healer can do. DPS. Unless there is a period of low/calm damage (example would be in Sunken Temple of Qarn, second boss. After you break his soulstone, he can't deal damage. That's when a healer can DPS), then the healer shouldn't be DPSing. That'll just lead to an MP sink, you won't be able to heal, and then a wipe. Not a smart move. EDIT: Okay, I forgot to include Holy. Holy is very good for cleaning out adds, but the primary focus should still be healing, then wait for a calm period of damage to DPS/Holy.
  7. Roelander concept art? http://cdndata.bigfooty.com/2014/03/46723_9587d6d005d55fca2948ebb352d96616.png[/img] Why do you have to be posting Oscare's shirtless pics, Crofte. Gees. But in reality, oh my lord a max muscle highlander/roe mix would just be a gallon of protein... exactly like Oscare. Do highlanders have any shame? I think not. Swole, motherflocker.
  8. "Oscare." Grumble, grumble. "Oscare?" Who the hell was that voice? "OSCARE!" The shocking alarm of a little sister's voice was the start of the day for Oscare, sheets practically flying out of his arms as he looked up, meeting a match dark tone of skin and shade of purple hued eyes; long red hair that was kept in a ponytail, slung over the front of her right shoulder and dropping down to her chest. "Do you know what time it is?" She spoke quickly, leaving Oscare to remain in his state of confusion. "It's a bell past 8 AM! Come on, we gotta get moving!" She rushes the topless man out of bed, Oscare's steps slow and heavier than normal. "I can't even FATHOM the fact that you would oversleep today!" What day was it? Did it even matter? She could of at least let the man sleep for another half-bell.
  9. I think most people who RP'd with Oscare already would have a faint idea of how he treats the genders. In hindsight, he's /kind/ of neutral. I know CERTAIN PEOPLE who would say he's definitely nicer to the gals, but others would say he's way more nicer to men. In reality, in his moral code, he behaves a lot more properly around gals. And I use "properly" loosely as he kind of caused a scene at Ul'dah over a certain situation. Good examples are Jancis and Crofte -- Oscare is very kindhearted and sweet to them (a lot of the time.... okay more like half the time), but with someone like Adrian or Aaron, his patience eventually short fuses and he gets a little passive-aggressive (mostly the latter) but in all honesty, it just kind of depends on the person. With someone like Berrod or Warren, Oscare respects them greatly.
  10. A lala/roe mix is objectively hilarious to me. They would just be an elezen in the long run, heh. Or even a pointy eared midlander. With blue-skin as an option.
  11. In my honest opinion, why not both? But I rest my case.I definitely say bad tank/good healer. Aggro can wait most of the time, damage doesn't wait for anyone. But at the same time, if a healer is healing TOO much, then THEY pull the aggro and will probably die very quickly due to low HP carried by healers -- especially in low leveled dungeons.
  12. Heh. We discussed that there are other ways to communicate considering your situation!
  13. So I'm going to open up with a little fact about myself. When I was a young kid, I loved stories. Not by reading, but by word of mouth. I liked hearing stories from my teachers, or the kiddy little stories in Disney movies (Brother Bear ;~~~~~~ and I have devised my own stories to pass onto others. These are more like a series of different stories, as opposed to stories interrelated with one another. However, I am at a dilemma. So I turn to you all. Of course I can't audibly pass these stories on, but I thought of something else. What if instead I made a sort of... RPG storytelling? I gather up a bunch of interested folks who want to participate in a story, and their actions will build up the stories from a series of available commands. Think of it as literally, a game. How does it work? Depending on how many people are interested, there will be "parties", all who may or may not interact with each other directly, but one party's decision may just cause another party to have an easier time -- or a harder one. "Parties" will have to solve various puzzles and defeat enemies with strength and wit to reach The Conclusion. Teamwork will be key. Communicating between each other may unlock other choices, which may ultimately make it or break it for a party. This will all be out of character. Which means you don't have to feel pressured if a situation may end up in a character death. They won't die in characterly. I'm not that mean... maybe. But in all seriousness, I kind of want to see how many people would be on board with this. If you have any questions, feel free to post a reply to this thread and I'll try to answer them all in a timely matter.
