I have a crazy theory about primals. (Some general 3.0 spoilers)
Gaspard replied to Marisa's topic in FFXIV Discussion
what's the difference? currently our working knowledge is that a Primal exists within the aether and is coalesced when summoned. What if this is how other primals start? -
quite so. I believe that garlemald is described as aetherically depleted, as its been farmed till kingdom come for ceruleum. Its also known that areas where many have died are also aetherically charged. alas, there's a chance that some forms of magic might be rendered useless on garlemald/garlean lands. beyond that however, I've little memory and would rather sounds the sounsyy signal

too late. I've seen it. I am sure i will continue to.

Def. had some 'oh shit' moments as a tank. imho there's more pressure on tanks/healers in general. Plus you have to take more into account. keep aggro, maintain right position and inbetween dps as much as you can without risking said aggro/position. very nopeworthy when you run content for the first time

Holy- I mean, on one side I'd be flattered that someone fancies my character bordering on obession, but jesus.

Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events
Gaspard replied to Warren Castille's topic in Chronicled Events
He did run into the crowd, we were tightly gathered. In his half-defense, I was halfway to emoting that I casually decapitated him (unposted) because 1) I've got a history at the Grindstone and 2) You SHOWED UP AT A TOURNAMENT OF FIGHTERS AND PICKED A FIGHT. Try and jump the fence at the Octagon during the Main Event of UFC. I dare you. This one irks me a bit. It's kinda as if you're saying 'I have priviledge / powergaming rights because you've been to the grindstone a plenty of times. But that's about the only bit that irks me, otherwise you're in the right in the whole scenario. In my opinion, that guy probably wasn't even trolling, or trying to be a jerk. It's rather that I know plenty of players that get frustrated when they realize that they can't be the center of attention / the guy in the spotlight in established groups. So they pull shit like this and stamp off any players not going with their headcannon as 'elitist assholes' or 'circlejerk mofos'. Because they can't be 'one of the cool kids' right off the bat. And the thought of having to 'work' for recognition in a group apalls them, because they equate it to 'sucking up'. More or less, you met the prototype version of : Let me be in the spotlight or you're an asshole. And It wouldn't be farfetched if he behaved like this outside of events aswell. -
people are too easily offended imho. I miss the days where you could cuss eachother out verbally online, have a little flame war here and there, hate eachothers guts for a few hours and then return to "business as usual", roleplaying with the very same person a few hours later and not having it affect IC one bit.

I like the Fact that it keeps me thinking. Like, for many years I ran in closed, defined Rp groups with overarching plot lines. This Open RP setting challenges alot of things I've taken for granted over those years. Beyond that ofc i enjoy the diversity. And the forums never get boring, there's always somehing going on

How likely do you believe it is that Garleans have an equivalent to the Gladiatorial set up of Ul'dah? Given Garleans seem to draw heavy Roman influences in their entire set up.

Death and how your character handles it.
Gaspard replied to Makyn Loneseeker's topic in Character Workshop
- How does your character deal with killing? Nonchalantly. Enjoying it even due to his early Dotharl upbringing (Enjoying massacres and such). He's no issue with dealing death and has done so in the past. - How did your character feel after his/her first kill? Since, culturally speaking, Dotharl are primed for war and violence, from what we know, I'd say; Proud, accomplished and 'mature'. Like a rite of passage. - Does your character mull over it later on? (Exe. The nightmares) At times, definitely. Being present in different Cultures does that to him, to the point that he's constantly confused to whether his way of seeing things is the right one or not. Also, being a Slave for several years shifted his perception to some degree since, for the first time, he was victim of his circumstances instead of aggressor. So that opened up a new can of worms in terms of ideologies. -
My biggest pet peeve in FFXIV RP has to be seeing people complain about Japanese influence / Anime realism | Physics. When I started playing XIV, there where many people wholly embracing FFXIV as a sort of European, medieval gritty realism thing. Picking apart things towards it's 'medieval plausibility' and realism as such. When you mentioned that 'yo, it's final fantasy. People deflect bullets with swords in this franchise / genre' You had people riled up within seconds, either brushing it off as weeabo madness inspired by animu and mango, and seemingly ignoring the very fact that all that they mention to hate / dislike about anime and manga is not just present in Final fantasy and XIV itself, but it's present in spades. From black mages 'charging their laz0rs' to Swordsman / Ninja's with unrealistic reflexes and abilities to jump from heights that'd be otherwise lethal = FFXIV is 'not' realistic, and shouldn't be measured in gritty European Medieval standards. I mean, from the cutscenes, to the emotes, to the obscure Hentai-trope hints in this game; You're simply playing in the wrong medium if some Anime-esque moves and motions upset you. ..Ironically, on the flipside I also get irked when people take this notion of Anime physics and tropes being present and run with it way too far, playing the FFXIV version of magical girl lyrical nanoha or Dragon Ball Z. Which leads me to another pet peeve ; The 'I'm paying for this game / I do what I want / If you don't like it don't play with me " Ideology. It's an inconsiderate, bullshit stance. Especially in Roleplay, there's nothing more important (In my opinion at least) then to be on the same page when it comes to lore / having the same 'vision' so to speak in the shared world you roleplay in. if what you play is in stark contrast to what lore / the story dictates so far, and you go 'pfft I pay for this I do what I want'. Ofcourse you have to be flexible in an Open World / RP setting, but that doesn't mean I have to accept magical girl lyrical nanoha material or that I'm an ass if my peers and I shun you out of roleplay because you wont even entertain the notion that, infact, your playstyle is disrupting the RP atmosphere / established lore.

It's a tough one, but all you can do is either roll with it or cease roleplaying with said person. They retconned, hard, and it's up to you to choose if that's okay with you or if they're out of your story for that reason.
