New to roleplaying but really excited to start!
DoomsdayClock replied to Sunella's topic in Welcome Desk
I'd also like to take the moment to note there are a good amount of EU area role players on this site and in this community. Getting to know them might be very beneficial on a time zone stand point too. I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but there may be a linkshell just for those folks? I've many in my own circle, and I know some times their times can be tricky to work out with others ( except the ones who...you know never sleep or anything ) -
New player to FFXIV! Not new at all to Role-Play
DoomsdayClock replied to Noxtis316's topic in Welcome Desk
I've spent maaaany mornings trying. It can really crush your confidence and desire to play if you do that route. You might actually benefit more from starting somewhere else..moving through MSQ while you collect what funds you need. Then when you do hop over you can have more of the world open, and better outfit choices. ( Because really, dressing up characters is the entire point of Rping.:moogle: ) I will suggest though, feel free to make use of the IC sections of this forum. There are plenty of people who can and will Rp here...and you can work on some plot and bonds with folks here while you wait out getting your character over. This place was created to be a resource for Rpers to find and create Rp together. Utilize it for it freely :cactuar: -
New player to FFXIV! Not new at all to Role-Play
DoomsdayClock replied to Noxtis316's topic in Welcome Desk
It's pretty bleak. There are some tiny pockets, sometimes right after a patch or update..but anymore Bal and Gil can be super hard to get on without just transferring over. I'll keep killing bots in game in the hopes of helping new people to find homes! -

As far as picking a server goes, Balmung is really were it's at as far as open world Rp. While there are certainly hub areas that you will find more, generally you can strike up Rp with folks out in the field if you are ambitious enough. In my experience other servers tend to have their Rp more centralized to the housing districts...and since i play on a lot of the servers, I will say that there is a lonely feeling in how empty a lot of the other servers seem to be in comparison. That said, I'm positive there are great groups on other ones if you search them out. So really it's probably a matter of what you are looking for. Also we don't have gil spammers..so that's a thing. ; -
Age/Race for Displaced Ishgardian Youth?
DoomsdayClock replied to savail's topic in Character Workshop
It wouldn't shock me if less lalafel were in Ishgard to begin with, based less on any racial commentary, and based more on what benefit they would get there. It might just be my view of the spuds, but I don't see a lot of growth or profit for them in that region, not to mention the climate...it wouldn't be worthwhile for them to set up much there..beyond maybe a trade route or something. Its also likely not worth the danger of the conflicts there. -
Age/Race for Displaced Ishgardian Youth?
DoomsdayClock replied to savail's topic in Character Workshop
I think the larger issue there is, racist in OUR world and what would be the racism in this fantasy world really isn't the same thing. We can't define it using the same tools really, because the history we base our feelings on that topic on, doesn't really exist in this setting. I'd imagine the fear and disdain of an interracial couple in this world is less about racism, and more about the worry of what can happen from it. We aren't talking about people with different skin tones, we are talking about near giants, tiny potatoes, cats, and dragon people. I'm sure on a subconscious level there would be some natural cringe factor and concern...even if it wasn't completely understood by the character experiencing it. And that's besides the concerns and curiosities of how mating even works....just look at the Ochre Boulder situation lol. -
[News] Xaela Found Dead in Thanalan!
DoomsdayClock replied to FallenFedora's topic in Tonberry's Lantern (IC)
Amid the hustle and bustle of the streets, a hooded figure stood in place, notice clutched in his armored hand. Even as others bumped and shouldered the midlander, he remained relatively stoic in his stance, as blue eyes scanned over the text again and again. Fingers clenched the parchment harder, before he would drop it to the ground and stare across the crowds. Had nothing changed? In the time that he had been gone, Ul'dah was no better off than he had left it. If anything it seemed worse..plagued now when more refugees, an influx of Au Ra sell swords, and the stench of ill intentions. His lips drew to a thin line as he contemplated his place in it all. The never ending struggle to try to do what little good he was able, against a torrent crime and law breakers. He saw none of his former companions since his return, in fact he would go as far as to say the presence of those who hungered for justice seemed to have nearly vanished entirely. Gone was the hunger for law, and in it's place a veritable feast evil doers. He was glad he had brought his appetite. As his inner monologue kept playing, the young man realized he couldn't simple stand in the center of the street forever. No, he had work to do. Alleys to canvas, patrols to begin, and new allies to obtain. Perhaps he'd start with these Xaela, perhaps new blood was exactly what an old city needed. With a renewed smile, he would stake his first step forward in this new quest.....until the crinkling sound of that paper he'd dropped sounded from the weight of his boot. A blue eye twitched, as he glanced down and nearly trembled. "Litter.......what have I become...?" -
Age/Race for Displaced Ishgardian Youth?

My rule is usually the same in all of these situations. If you are having fun Rping, and YOU like your character...then you are probably doing it right. People can sit around all day and give you reasons why you shouldn't do A B or C, but if you can play it well, put a good spin on a concept and make it work...then you are doing exactly what should be done in the process of making an interesting character. Does that mean I should make a Roe who is actually Zeus? Probably not...but an Au Ra who by some twist of fate wound up there...? Why not? Is it totally unreasonable to think that good could have shown through a couples heart and gotten them to risk taking a child, who might face harsh prejudice in? Sure..that sounds entirely like something I'd expect to see in a fantasy setting. That sounds like the shapings of crafting a background story. So...whatever NPC's are were..and what we see in cut scenes...at the end of the day that view is made for the WoL, and the rest of the world is a big ass place with a hell of a lot more people than he/she will ever come across. So have fun with it. YOU will sell your character far more than a backstory will anyway, and if done well you'll have lots of people to interact with no matter what. I mean....look at all the voidsent Rpers? ( I note I'm actully one of them to a well played degree :tonberry: ) -
Silence was meant to be played as only loyal to a small War Bound I was going to form...but with playing a mute, those bonds never seemed to take off, and I regretfully selected many players who vanished into the aether shortly after meeting them lol. Enter his handler, Aoi..whose orders he follows to the letter. Beyond her, the brute would likely show a degree of protection towards Warren ( since he originally only interacted at the Grindstone ), whom he deems to be of importance. And despite having not seen them for a time, he'd likely still risk life and limb for Nataru, Nahare, Orenji, Flynt, Shirono, Yvain, or any number of the pirate group he'd been working with for some time. So in short, the links he has gained through combat and respect..are the ones he values above all else. Maybe not the Warbound I wanted, but he has still met some pretty cool people.

Lho'a tends to hold no love for his own kind. Infact he is pretty far removed from Keeper society and traditions entirely. That said, he often CLAIMS to hold some degree of loyalty to the Flames, but only when he feels the need to seem like he is important. If he would actually step in to aid that group or not remains to be seen. That said, he loyalty falls more to individuals. Lho'a has experienced great pain and loss, and through it has decided that those he truly cares for, are worth more than the general population or whatever may stand in his way of safe guarding them. As such the lengths he will go to for those souls goes FAR beyond what one might consider safe, or normal. This also often goes beyond what THEY would want as well...as Lho'a always presumes he knows what is best for everyone around him, even when he is wrong.

I actually really like Moraby. There is a ton of room there. Ive seen events run very nicely there.

I usually feel like the Shroud is hard, pending on how serious you take those pesky elementals. I try to be kind of lenient with the concept, but I know some folks are pretty "DOOM" about doing things that will piss them off. Limsa itself seems to get the crap end of Rp....The Wench is so nice and Rp there is still sparse. I've had some good scenes out by the cliffs edges in la Noscea tho..I can totally attest to that place...it's also the home of my secret favorite RP location >.>;

I really have zero issue blacklisting anyone who trolls or interrupts what I'm doing. People only have the power you let them have. Especially in an online game. So....zero reaction from me. That area is neat looking though....I half wonder what of my roster would fit to go there. I imagine it would be cool to have an FC or mercenary group hang out there. Besides....really if your on Bal and have an issue with Rpers...that's kinda yer fault. lol Most def. I'm just keenly aware that some people don't like to put themselves in that position in the first place. The bold shall claim victory! I say make it happen! I can throw Screaming Silence there sometime. He would certainly be skulking about looking to fight things.:bomb:

I'd love it if we could access the Vath Adventurer Guild and use it as a hub too, though the number of people milling about for beast tribe dailies would make it difficult to RP there. I think that's the same as the old Mor Dhona situation...like the place was just too congested with bodies. I can ignore a lot..but visually I think it would be too much for even ME. But yeah,...their guild set up..and growing links to other groups would make form prime Rp hooks.

Need opinions on character appearance
DoomsdayClock replied to GhostlyMaiden's topic in Character Workshop
4 seems more uncommon, compared to what I usually see. By which I mean I'd vote for 4. -
I agree! I feel like that whole little area is highly underused. Of all of the HW locations, that's one of the more reasonable places for me to consider too. I've an aversion to placing any of my characters at any of the flying islands thus far...but Tailfeather might work for a few of them. Silence needs places to keep perfecting his skill...and there are lots of big things for him to fight ( Sagoli is so last expansion for combat brooding Rp. ) On a side note too...i really do think that if you make the effort, other rpers will join in. You can't just one shot attempt of course, but Rpers are about as plentiful as the mobs out there. It's just...they are like the passive mobs....so you have to punch them in the face first. They won't just run up posting on their own. :moogle:

balmung I NEED YOU to throw a chair! (Barfight)
DoomsdayClock replied to Aden Dellebecque's topic in Chronicled Connections
Was fun starting a clobber fest. Thanks for the Rp folks. -
I agree, and an above poster also mentioned the Seventh Heaven there too. i think initially there was plenty of discomfort with Rping there..since it used to be the end game hub, were everyone was constantly running amok. But with Idlyshire now being that spot...I think the foot traffic is a bit less, and have done a scene or two there myself now. Certainly worth exploring, especially with a lovely Castrum right there to fight through ICly.

I could certainly be down for this. I can offer the giant mute Roe who used to attend the Grindstone, or a surly Ala Mhigan laborer, who happens to dislike challenger one very much. -
I've been wanting to do some Rp there. With many Monks and Ala Mhigan Rpers floating around, it would be neat to see more going on openly there. I'd sure like to get my plot on that vein, eventually heading towards that spot in due time. The place is plenty large after all. :moogle: My characters Alex and Grace frequent LAM for monkhood meetings and Resistance stuff, it's just me hangingout and walking around LAM though. I'm far too thin spread to be involved in a constant thing that needs everyday attention, but I am entirely in favor of Resistance and all around Ala Mhigo stuff. I've been doing a very slow paced work up to that sort of Rp, PM me for details if you want to dabble into it. The goal is to have people of that background all meeting up and making Social Links ( so we can summon better Personae ). But seriously, if the next expansion gives us something of the resistance for real in game, will be sweet to be ready to roll with it. :cactuar:

Its certainly a unique looking area. And with it, I wonder why more people don't use Wineport. I really need to drop one of my two haughty elezens there sometime. It would make sense to see them being prisses about drinks and exploring what Limsa has to offer. Not not mention the big monsters in a rain forest for hunters to go after. The giant Gobbue Fate alone would be a neat IC hunt

I had a conversation earlier regarding how most Rp is centralized around a few specific spots in the vast world we all sink so much time into. My question would be this: What parts of the world would YOU like to Rp in...? Why would your character be there, and what sort of Rp would you think might be neat to develop in certain locations? More so, feel free to use this thread to spike conversation and set up some meet ups outside of Ul'dah for Twelves sake! I for one have been more interested in areas near the different dungeons, some Rp in the BeastTribe encampments...or some of the frosty locales in Coerthas.

The Keeper : Clanless Keeper makes the worst friends and life choices The Roegadyn : Handicapped Roegadyn solves all problems by punching The Noble : Murderer is no longer sure who to murder, adopts child instead. The Killer: Insane Revolutionary turns people into candy colored rocks. The Lalafel Crimelord struggles with crime vs. Public Opinion. Frequently cannot reach drinks on tabletops The Au Ra : Lonely lizard is overly concerned with masculinity. Carries an overly long spear to compensate The Elezen : Crazy cat lady winds up homeless and unemployed. Still keeps cats. The Highlander : Bro spends all of his time picking on overweight ginger. Claims to be father of the year, daughter is never seen.
