Oh I realised my mistake after the fact :< I def meat pre 3.0 when they had yet to be ingame in any way really - given that's what this situation is far more similar to.
-
A large part of what I'm talking about is people jumping on RPing au ra before they were even released ingame and before even the tribes were released. Not simply pre 4.0 content - but people jumping onto rping the characters after simply seeing the concept art/a few screenshots from the fanfest 4 years ago. This was before specific tribe info was given out and thus it's in a similar place as the Viera with people jumping onto making characters with no lore basis other than a few stray lorebook II tidbits. That's where the retconning comes from - not from after they were released/simply pre 4.0. I saw people rping them as of a demonic origin or being dravanian related because there wasn't that specific information released yet to players. Basically yeah as the person above said, making plans that are overly specific is what's going to lead to retconning. Right now this pretty much means a lot of the assumptions being pulled from other games or even assumptions from stuff that isn't clear but we THINK might happen. I think there are ways around this if people really want to do the rp now but I also think that avoiding these assumptions of what the lore is going to be is really necessary for that.
-
To be honest this just reminds me of pre 3.0 where we had people jumping into rping xaela without any established lore other than appearance. I have some friends who had to very very heavily retcon stuff and in some cases just straight up 86 it and start over because it couldn't be made to work in the actual confines of the lore. I completely expect to get some really unique and unexpected things from the race if we even get them - they could very easily be a NPC race or beast tribe. They do exist in Eorzea but we know next to nothing about them because they're intentionally keeping that info pretty under lock & key right now.

I would think that it may make more sense to use 'coeurl' rather than Miqo'te. Especially since you have the hard 'c' there so you still get the fun alliteration of things like 'Curiosity killed the coeurl.' True facts - I guess someone let the coeurl out of the bag. You could for sure refer to 'cat things' as miqo'te but I've had people icly refer to my keeper as a 'kitty' and that's p much just boardline racist - basically calling my character an 'animal'. So I mean you could totally do this but I'd be pretty aware that this is more than likely implied/casual racism than anything else. I do think coeurl would work a ton better - we have the kitten and the black coeurl and have seen/heard of them otherwise being kept as pets

Oh everyone's welcome to rp as they please, I guess I just don't really think it's something (at least in my all understanding I have with the lore) in the realm of a realistic possibility. The species are different to such an extent that it isn't the same as say an elezen and midlander having a kid - children who I think might end up just being infertile even if viable for life. They're completely different species, unlike the other races of eorzea. Write for your own enjoyment, totally, but it's not really something I can see easily validated through the ingame lore. Playing a glamoured dravanian too it's kinda hard to see this type of stretch being something I'd want to or even be able to incorporate into my rp. I can guess people who are heavily involved in Dragoon rp might have a similar issue. (that said you might also want to look into dragoon, heretic and dragon blood lore stuff it might be interesting given well, people basically turning into dragons or gaining particular traits/connections). If you're gonna go for it then sure go for it - but I'd also say there's a lot of pitfalls with the idea as well given how
-
The Inquisitor was an actual dragon simply under a glamour. That doesn't really mean half-breed babies are going to suddenly come into existence, most species can't breed with one another and create actual offspring or viable offspring - I mean I'd hardly think they could procreate even if... They're not always the bad guys I mean literally that is the 3.0 storyline.

Voted, but either day works pretty much equally well for me! I hope everything goes smoothly - everything I heard about the last event was all wonderful!

This. Anyx Trine is by far the best source. Off the top of my head, what I remember from there: *Young dragons take a VERY long time to mature. They are still in the 'whelp' stage at 30 years old. Wyverns are apparently kind of a juvenile stage, I think? Pretty sure Wyverns are just another species/type of dragon. The wyverns we dealt with were juvenile but talk to some other ones around that area - or there are some new mobs (such as Elder Wyvern and some other varieties of wyverns). This is sort of the same as an Avis or Dragonfly are another type/species of dragon. And man that hierarchy of dragons - sending countless dragonflies to die like cannon fodder.

I about agree with this as well. If anything, an argument could be made that roleplay is bad for writing and thus critical evaluation isn't helpful. It enables a lot of bad habits such as uncertain actions, narrow-minded perspectives, and is incredibly constraining with text limits and limited styles of posts. Self-evaluating yourself might only hurt your actual writing abilities. I sort of feel like it's how using your own self-evaluating for novel writing wouldn't help you for writing for a comic, as the mediums require different styles of writing and pacing. If you've been having fun and other people have had fun with you, that's about all the self-evaluation you need. I just roleplay like a social hobby though, akin to tabletop games with friends. Honestly I could just as easily argue the opposite. RPing is an exercise in writing that makes you write 'on your toes' so to speak. You have to be thinking from not the perspective of 'how do I want to convey this planned story' to 'how can I write this character in a way that is realistic for their backstory and a situation that wasn't planned out'. It's different than writing alone, not necessarily pointless as a writing exercise or even outright bad. I've found that over the years writing in a group setting has drastically improved my ability with characterization as well as in general the speed I can make myself write - something I struggled pretty heavily with until I roleplayed a lot more actively. - Roleplay is a form of entertainment, that is for sure, but I don't think that striving to improve in any way takes away from it being 'just for fun'. Ultimately, learning to think in a more critical way about things such as 'is this the most realistic way my character would react?' or 'am I falling into a cliche trap and would something different be more interesting for myself/my rp partners?' aren't a chore but ultimately lead to more entertaining roleplay and a lot more personal enjoyment out of it for myself and others - which is really the goal. After having rped for a long time, looking back at characters/situations/rps I wrote years ago, I often know I could have done a better job expressing them now or maybe even made the entire experience of that rp more interesting for me and people I rped with because of how I've grown over time. I think that's great and a wonderful measure of improvement! I also think that continuing to critically look at both character and writing really allow for that improvement to flourish. I'm not pushing to improve my writing or characters or anything like that for the sake of other people's criticism, but over the years I've found being able to convey my characters and the situation's they're in in different, more multi-faceted lights as well as to create more dynamic rp and situations that I might've struggled with before. This is about personal criticism and critique, though, not others. Ultimately if you don't like what someone's doing with rp (and honestly, I think people are perfectly allowed to feel this way) just don't rp with those people if something really bothers you. Elitism isn't really in play here - or shouldn't be - when talking about self evaluation. Nobody's ever done growing as a writer and nobody should be in some ivory tower above less experienced players.

Your elezen sounds lovely My half-breed bb has connections to house dzemael that might be interesting (please excuse my wip wiki). I also have an elezen who's got some extreme ties with Ishgard though he adamantly hates Ishgardians (wips forever one day I'll finish). I'd normally say I'm easy to reach ingame but right now dealing with hopping between friend's houses while I deal with moving into a new house. I'm on skype (username: bellsify) though if either characters sound of interest and you'd wanna talk or even do any rp on skype! [EDIT] Oh my keeper is actually living right now in a fc's house really close to yours if that's ic - he's around the area a lot going to-from Ul'dah often (I THINK I have the right district)!
-
Oh man I would love some more Ishgardian themed rp with my not-quite heretic (even if I'm still desperately working towards finishing the msq so he can actually go to Ishgard icly). I'll try to get ahold of someone, though my internet has been pretty off-on this last week.
