  1. This artstyle is so pretty... I'm still a fan! Please take my money.
  2. ((Jazz we need to have a talk.)) ((Yeah sure, what's up?)) ((I talked it over with the clan, and we need to address your lorebreaking.)) ((What do you mean?)) ((Well, in the last match you used an ACR.)) ((So? It's a great rifle, most accurate in the game by a wide margin.)) ((Yeah, but it's a bit... Mary-Sue. I mean, it's an advanced, expensive American firearm. Our clan is composed mostly of Russian Ultranationalists and Chinese rebels.)) ((But what if I found it on an enem-)) ((You wouldn't know how to operate it Jazz! We don't even stock that caliber of munition!)) ((Fine... I'll change. ...I'll retcon into an AK-74 at the armory.")) ((Good man, and stop issuing commands in English.)) ((But I don't speak Russian-)) ((YOUR CHARACTER DOES, STOP RUINING THE IMMERSION)) -Jazz and Clan-Com were killed later that day by General Exex Swaglord and his army of quickscoping attack dogs.-
  3. I play lore rigidly if it is established. There is tons of stuff that will never be canonized, so I feel it i very easy to be creative with what we have. I just wish people would understand why my little arcanist is terrified when they tell her they are a black mage or a summoner. A lot of new roleplayers (very understandably) believe black mages and white mages are the same as conjurers and thaumaturges since mechanically they sort of are.
  4. Why have we not met? But really, scribe was always a viable trade in a largely illiterate society. The illiterate had news to spread too, so dictation was very important. As for cartography, the potential for for jobs is limitless. Imagine how much space it would take in your pack for all the maps available to your character ingame.
  5. Tallera is an everything-goes sort of scholar. Not a particularly gifted mage but what other settings might deem a natural philosopher. She has been teaching Iron Sea literacy, and will continue to spread fancy book learnings. The literacy rate is a disgrace!
  6. Yeah, but that does not clarify much. Tons of npcs stand sentry. Are guards not cognizant people? Egis are fleshed out to be mindless husks derived from a primal's essence while fairies are not only self aware but capable of going against you. Egis are automatons while fairies are tiny people. Thematically carbuncles should fall in the middle, sentient but only in an animal sense.
  7. In my experience OOC dialogue is all but essential for any rp conflict. There are many issues to be considered such as consequences and character power. Without stats or a DM there is no hope for unscripted combat. Lucky for me nobody wants to hit Tally. She's pretty weaksauce even for a magician.
  8. Has anything confirmed exactly how intelligent carbuncles are? I like to think the carbuncle is a self-sustaining loop of aether given shape, and its commands are given by the arcanist in the form of geometry pages dedicated to various basic algorithms. Of course this ties into game mechanics perfectly. A spell for sic or obey or heel. Alternatively, they are just egis of some Good King Carbuncle or something.
  9. Yeah. ...I bet some grimoires have failsafes while the better ones don't! Like, grimoires designed for spell tests and grimoires designed for pages that work.
  10. Also, this is essentially scrolls. There is no lore evidence of it but scrolls are one of my favorite mechanics in tabletop! Always bring them along! Edit: Attached is a lexicon of a few circuit diagram symbols. Looks pretty familiar, right?
  11. I agree with a lot of your original post's concepts but disagree on the meaning of shapes themselves. In my headcanon a geometry is sort of a circuit diagram for aether distribution. Healing magics require a completed circuit to allow gentle, even flow while offensive magic is intentionally ungrounded. A spell such as physick gently courses aether through a target while a spell like ruin spikes them with energy through ending the circuit with the target. In the game it is evident that an overdose of aether can do many horrible things. Primals temper this way, and mutations based on elemental or corrupted aether are the basis for many monster ingame! This makes it very plausable that dousing opponents in aether is inherently dangerous, explaining why most offensive geometries are slow and toxic. Back to the actual shapes, they could perhaps symbolize fundamentals of current control. Resistors, accelerators and logic circuits would all be necessary in formulating the exact flow you want. Elemental aspects may take part, but arcanima seems largely unaspected. I recommend reading up on some basic electrical engineering, replacing any reference to electricity with aether. This theory is basically the hardware to your software. What if corrupted aether is just an absence of semicolons?
  12. Travel the world, they said. See the sights, smell the roses. I knew there would be trouble but did THEY listen? Of course not! I trudge through a cool, mildew-scented tunnel with untold dangers ahead of me. The omnichromatic glow of arcanima emanating from my grimoire is the only thing separating me from the sun-starved murk. In layman's terms, It's blacker than a duskwight with a sun-tan and I can't see shite but for a few yalms ahead. Smell the roses. Bah! It's La Noscea! The roses want to kill you, and unlike the bandits they aren't even motivated by sensible economics and work ethic. Stupid landtraps, stupid salt air, stupid cave, stupid kobolds-- In my vehement ramblings I had somehow strolled right into the kobold dig I was explicitly warned to avoid. Kobolds... Eugh. Disgusting creatures. With their beady eyes and their crooked teeth and their goofy, hunchback posture... Yuck! "You, overdweller! Why you say such hurtful things? Why you come here?" I gulp audibly. I had switched thinking with talking again. "Does overdweller realize she is looking at self in puddle reflection?" "She does have bad teeth! Haha!" My pride is wounded, and judging by the drawn pickaxes they do not intend to leave it at that. I appear to be surrounded, so the only option is diplomacy... I take a deep breath... "Come no closer, knaves! It is I, The Warrior of Light! Cringe before my Titan-felling might!" "No you aren't! Warrior of Light is taller!" "Scarier!" "Does not shiver and shake!" "Is much prettier!" In my panic I let it slide, but the kobolds are closing in! One more thing to try... "There's strong mineralogical evidence of gold-bearing quartz along your eastern dig! I recommend explosives!" The press of tiny, rat-like bodies halts. The cave is dark and cold but I sweat profusely nonetheless. They begin to chitter amongst themselves... A helmetted, armored kobold steps ahead of the encircling mob. Has to be a foreman, he looks more important. "Ha! Your amateurish stunt cannot work on us!" His pick raises menacingly, this is not how I expected to die. "Did she say gold?" I wanted to die in a hectic siege. "Can't use explosives, too fragile." Or a lab fire. "Too valuable? Time is money! Money is crystals!" I close my eyes and wait for death. "Foolish! Must take care with gold!" Still waiting. "Dumb! Must extract before Limsans come!" Waiiiiting. "Idiot bedesman!" "Stupid linesman!" A lantern flies past my head, striking the foreman. A melee ensues. I flee in the most respectable, tactically sound fashion possible until I grow winded from crying and sprinting simultaneously. The sound of self-contained civil war echoes behind me as I exit the tunnel. Fools. The avarice of kobolds would be their downfall. I hurry onward to Mist, eager to sell my wares. Good potions sell almost five percent higher than back in Ul'dah. (Posted on mobile. Sorry for awful formatting.)
  13. the fun part about that are potential bounty hunters haha who needs 'authority' pssshhh and as noted before by others, while the thought and intention of a sort of 'criminal' directory is all well and good and has amazing potential for positive rp use, it's just way too easy for someone to accidentally 'and' purposefully abuse it. I have seen things like this used really well before, but I've seen them more often abused. What I think is a better approach is having an information broker (if there isn't any character like that already) and people that are bounty hunters or even military companies or groups could find these contacts if they haven't encountered these characters before and just go through finding out that information through IC means instead of a list. would encourage players to be a lil more attentive to their rp and sweeten reaching for rp outside of usual circles. I can see that, yes. Perhaps the best avenue is posting an individual contact request? I certainly would not want a walk up in this case, as the hunter has to obtain some out of character info to make the pursuit more logical. Funnily enough, everyone who knows is strangely okay with Tallera's crimes. "Wuuuuut you stabbed those people? That's okay you had a good reason right?" These are the same adventurers clobbering literally anything if its in a leve.
  14. I've actually wondered how to go about this. Tallera is wanted specifically by Ishgard and as a result stays in Ul'dah where she feels to be outside their authority. I've made it a point for the character to avoid Gridania for its proximity and Limsa for its high traffic. A directory would be pretty neat, in case anyone wanted to be some sort of far-flung knight on the hunt.
  15. I'd actually love some help finding a good vocal inspiration for Tallera. Her voice is high high pitched and a bit nasally. She also has an accent influenced by living around Ishgardian Elezen. (slightly French) Generally I imagine her voice being childish and not at all charismatic.
  16. I can go to cheer on my friends and heal the losers... And those bare manchests...
  17. I will always DM the weather and time if possible to set things up. Other than that I always tend towards ignoring it. As for geography, I have my own headcanon based on the zone. Southern Thanalan seems a lot hotter and arid than even Northern Thanalan. South Shroud seems noisome and humid while North Shroud seems almost alpine. I doubt it will ever be a major issue!
  18. I personally have no problems with sex scenes in RP. After all, explicit scenes find their way into many genres and sex itself adds an extra layer to social dynamics. That said, Weaver is a pure maiden who is too awkward to ever seal the deal.
  19. Aren't you the person that posted in another topic saying that Weaver was EXTREMELY modest, so much so that even showing her mere ankles was unthinkable(even as an exaggeration, it still feeds a lot to the point)? *amused* The very same! The perversion is VERY closeted. If anyone caught her doing this she'd have trouble living it down. The modesty is sort of ingrained, but the fast and loose culture of Ul'dah is slowly trickling in.
  20. I read a lot about swordplay and armors and weaponry in an effort to better understand how these conflicts go. My biggest issue is getting a feel for what sort of punch goes into various spells. Does Ruin pierce armor? Does Bio make you sick? Melt your face? Its a bit of a crapshoot, and magic is the only defense my character has. More importantly, just how powerful can a magician get if they are not legendary, just competent? How much is skill and how much comes down to winning the Aether lottery? I am spoiled by tabletop manuals explaining such things to levels that exceed the pedantic.
  21. Nah he just went to the Jojo's Academy of Fabulous Masculinity with the aestheticician and Hildebrand.
  22. ;_; NO SUICIDE! She's got ~friends~ *adds in sparkles for extra effect* Bawww. But really, most of the jobs just seem too powerful. Like. Summoner involves direct conflict with primals and SCH requires the ressurection of a dead art. I suppose it depends on how quickly these two jobs go mainstream from their singular origins. Lore nonwithstanding I'd love to see some of my favorite magic classes return such as Time Mage, Red Mage, Elementalist and Sage.
  23. Tallera is sort of a huge pervert if given the opportunity. To the point of glamouring a weaver's mannequin to look uncomfortably like men she knows.
  24. Tally is an arcanist, but this is secondary to her knack for research. She will probably never attain the level of power that comes with a job. Her constant grief and guilt means her future either holds absolution or suicide.
  25. I do not watch tv. What's a good character for a lonely, traumatized bookworm?
