Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread

discussion Alternate RP server (Updated 5/18/17)
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to Mercer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'd definitely consider making a poll. That being said, I also think it may be wise to wait before choosing. I only say that because it's only designated servers that will receive the transfer benefits. Without knowing what those servers are, people will likely be less enticed, especially with the FC related benefits being added to those designated servers. -

EU RP Server Discussion & Poll To keep things concise and so that people aren't going back and forth between topics trying to talk about the same thing and losing context, I'd like to see people move the EU RP Server discussion to that thread and poll if no one particularly minds! Keeps topics nice and smooth. ♥ -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
Re-reading this a few times, it does sound like people will receive the listed benefits if they transfer off Balmung and onto a designated server. Their wish-washy use of, "All Worlds," really flip flops and adds confusion but what clarifies it for me is, "Moreover, players who to transfer to or create new characters on designated Worlds across all data centers will receive special bonuses as described below." If that's true and say, I transfer off Balmung and go to Jenova, and receive the listed benefits that's. . . That's not bad. That's pretty nice. Especially if you can take entire Free Companies / there's some sort of deal there. I think after that, it's trying to get the community to "choose" a secondary roleplay server and/or an EU roleplay server (to which people are already discussion, I might suggest a poll hosted here on the RPC or Discord. Honestly, I'd use the RPC because not everyone wants an off-site medium). Edit: Added the lodestone & Kage's post to the OP. Also stated that it appears transfer benefits will be a thing come Stormblood. Edit 2: Added the EU server poll to OP and linked here. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
They've been telling us to not transfer to fill world's for a really long time. They just weren't actually enforcing their words. It sucks, but this is also the perfect chance to foster some larger RP communities on other servers. (I can almost hear Mateus server people screaming!) And why would we be screaming? Just curious actually. I don't think there was aggression intended here. I think Merc meant like, "Screaming in excitement," because there will be more people going to your server. At least, that's how I read the implication! I could be wrong. ^-^;; -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
I definitely agree about bots and afk timers. Something like GW2 would be nice with the adjustment that it registers text. I don't mind being kicked out after 30 minutes - 1 hour of afk. However, if I'm roleplaying I hate doing the dumb little shimmy. Though, I think when XIV had implemented their afk timer, it had registered text. So. There's that. I know to some extent they are trying with bots. While the server's tightly locked, I drastically see a whole lot gilsellers which is a step in the right direction (but no by perfect or a solution). They do release stats on how many people are gutted for botting, it's a lot, bots are just. . . They're one of those things that I don't think anyone's perfectly removed. As long as this doesn't mean megaservers I'm okay. Because there's no way in the seven hells that I want to go back to that and all the problems it creates vs the minimal that it solves. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
They do though? And have been taking steps to improve what's currently available. FFXIV was never designed to have to accommodate a cross-world experience outside of instances zones, which were special and probably separated from the other zone servers. We've seen they plan to add cross-world raiding, friends list, tells, free companies, etc. I don't forsee cross-world zones because thst would defeat the purpose of having separate world at all. And given how the network stuff is set up, they probably still need that because those packets can be bloated at times. -megaserver flashbacks- -screams- I'm sorry that's all I see with, "Cross-World zones." I'm not sure if it can be done differently but pleasenomegaserverspleasenoplease. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
I agree that's likely the case I'm just. . . disappointed by it? To bring up the typical, "But them other games!" reference, like. When other games have experienced overloading high population servers they just. . . offer free transfers off. It's a courtesy thing. And while I don't think that XIV may need to maintain that system, I do think it's only fair for them to offer it temporarily when a move happened after players had already selected their realm and grown content with their pings / what-have-you. Drastically changing server should allow people a grace period of, "Nope. . . don't like this time to change." And I mean, it's not like it'd be the first time they offered free transfers for doing something large scale. They did it with the EU data center. Idk, I agree it's a money thing, but I feel like. . . they should respect (lack of a better term) their playerbase more than that and offer a grace period. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
BumblingSeaBiscuit replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
My only real gripe about this is locking the server and not giving free transfers off. Especially right now, as there are people destined to be unhappy with their ping. I think a good balance to locking down the server would have been giving high population servers the ability to transfer off without cost for a certain period of time. This would allow other communities to prosper and give those who may not have the funding (but are affected by the server move) the ability to clear out some space (especially with that gil increase for moving!). *Edited to add: I do agree the timing might be a little blah if you've been trying to get friends into the game/server for the expansion. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread

*Update: It appears that the servers may already be locked. Yep, they've been locked. -
For those who may not read things! If you plan on transferring or making a character on one of the listed servers you need to do so before Stormblood. Afterward, they'll be closing it off for an indefinite amount of time. So if you needed a nudge, here it is! Update: It appears the servers may already be locked. Balmung is not accessible on the mogstation transfer list. Yep, they've been locked. So if you're unable to transfer to Balmung this'll be why! There's no news yet on when the servers will be unlocked. But I doubt it'll be permanent. Similar locks happened during Heavensward. ♥ Another Update: Lodestone Link. Kage's full post. It does appear from the wording that services will be offered come Stormblood for players looking to transfer off. I'll be updating this shortly with new links and removing broken ones. ♥

I feel like if other games are capable of not limiting dungeon times then XIV should be able to find a way. So again, I'll be keeping my question to at least see if it is possible or a potential. However, I do like Kilieit's alternative so I can add it as an additional. Quick edit: Added Kiliet's alternative as a suggestion.

Dungeons need those timers to kick people out of the instance should they either fail to complete, go AFK, or for other session-related reasons. Without that dile kick, players could theoretically fill up all the available instances and then the Duty Finder would never be able to complete or might just crash. In unsynched dungeons, the reasons you posted don't really matter. I'm also not talking about the ten minute timer kick. I'm talking about the, "You only have 90 minutes to complete this dungeon," timer. In an unsynched dungeon, it's a little redundant unless you're attempting to complete a dungeon to test how fast you can, and in that case it'd just be nice to have an ability to toggle it off. ./shrug I think Mercenary was talking about from the server side. Let's say 100 people all decide to go into their own unsynced dungeon and turn the timer off. That's now 100 instances stored on FFXIV's servers that are tied up in people essentially just AFKing, taking screenshots, etc... indefinitely. There is no AFK timeout in FFXIV. They could sit in those instances for weeks, tying up resources that could be being used for those wishing to play the game to progress their MSQ, improve their gear... Now let's say 1000 people decide to do that. Now let's say 10,000 people... It becomes a resource issue. The 90 minute time-out prevents that. I mean, while it could be hard on their servers, their servers are also getting major upgrades, and with those upgrades we may see more availability for that. At the end of the day, we don't have an actual answer (not that I've seen) for why we can't have a toggle for unsynched dungeons. And I mean, let's face it, I highly doubt thousands of people are going to use the feature. Unsynched dungeons, in general, have very little purpose. They were made to help friends get through content. There's very little reason to not have it as a toggle. I'm going to keep both questions as I doubt they'll be addressed but I know lots of people who would appreciate answers to both with the adjustments they're making for Stormblood.

I think they've answered both of these before! These are the answers I've seen for them. I'll try to link the official posts when I get a chance at work. Dungeons need those timers to kick people out of the instance should they either fail to complete, go AFK, or for other session-related reasons. Without that dile kick, players could theoretically fill up all the available instances and then the Duty Finder would never be able to complete or might just crash. RE:Bare feet, it's a character model limitation. If you look at the shape of our characters' legs, you'll notice that they all typically are raised to the same heigh regardless of sandal, shoes, boot or armor. Giving charcters bare feet would require adjusting the model (and height of the leg/character) that would also require changing its shape, which is why they've dismissed it previously. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/176921-Can-we-please-be-barefoot Counter post: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/218920-Can-I-have-a-Augmented-Emperor-s-Boots?p=2767315&viewfull=1#post2767315 (Although we'd still have an issue where no shoes at all would look like floating) In unsynched dungeons, the reasons you posted don't really matter. While barefeet has been addressed, so has countless ways that people have argued its implementation (including a mod, where your characters feet are bare, and you don't have ground issues). You can read some of them here. Not to mention, they've mentioned graphic updates with Stormblood, and I'd like to know if this will now be possible. ./shrug
