Just to note, I know the Japanese class lists translated Botanist to Harvester, but I am fairly certain that the English-language version of the class name is still Botanist.

Happy birthday Mason!! I hope it's a great one. :cat:

Hooray! Yeah I hated situational gear-swapping too. I could understand having an alternate weapon or even an alternate body-piece or helmet or something to use depending on the party set up and what you needed to do, but swapping in every piece of gear for weapon skills/songs/spells just was obnoxious.

Aveline stomped through the rain up the many, many winding steps of Limsa-Lominsa, the hood of her sensible grey traveling cloak pulled tightly over her hair and ears. "Stupid seaside town with its stupid cold weather and stupid rain.." she muttered darkly. Rain and chilly weather were not her favorite things in life. However, her curses ceased and her ire at the weather was all but forgotten as she rounded a corner and stared across a small bridge at the site of a gourmet restaurant in a state of pandemonium. She could see the occasional flame licking through a broken window or an empty doorway. "What the..." A man hurrying away from the restaurant passed by and she grabbed a hold of his sleeve. "Excuse me, sir, I'm looking for the Bismarck..." "It's that building there, but may the Twelve watch over you if you have business there! Some rogues mistook the Bismarck for the Drowning Wench, I believe, it's pure chaos! The Admiral will hear about this!" It was all she could get out of him before he freed his sleeve from her grasp and ran off to safety. The miqo'te clutched at the small traveling satchel slung over her shoulder and considered what to do. Her brow furrowed as she took in the panicked voices rising from the restaurant and the smell of cindering wood. "Admiral. What a neat name." She took in a deep breath and continued on towards the mess of a fine restaurant.

Wow there are more of us in the test than it seems we should all try to get together sometime during beta.

They wear stuff like this!

To Alt or Not to Alt- That is the question...

Hm that is interesting, I didn't know that about FFXI formerly having no level cap on crafts. I -may- make a crafting mule, still not sure though. It would be kind of fun to have character that has never leveled up a physical or magical job class and have a craft at 100 :3 -
I agree with this completely. An underpopulated server sounds like not much fun.

Yeah everyone has given good suggestions ^ That is great for a first sig! My first looked like a horrible fight between a set of fingerpaints and some pixels.

Well, what S-E has confirmed in interviews is that you get to pick your starting city, and it is not like FFXI where certain races were "traditionally" from one city or the other (like Elvaans got a ring if they started in San d'Oria). They've also said that while certain job classes will have their HQ in various cities, there is some overlap. Like for instance they have said that there is a Fishing Guild in Limsa-Lominsa as well as in Gridania. As far as how the HQ will effect your advancement in that class, your guess is as good as mine. Pure speculation: Based on S-E's emphasis on everyone being able to do whatever they want, I think the HQs are not necessarily going to be like, the place you go to every time you level, but maybe like the place you go to for class-specific missions or quests. That is my guess though.

I don't know, it feels more to me like they took ideas from smaller towns in FFXI and turned them into major spots. Ul'dah almost sounds like Rabao all grown up into a city-state. The description says opulent and full of gambling, with a sultan as a leader but also the Syndicate pretty much running things, and something about a giant dome in the center. Limsa-Lominsa reminds me more of Mhaura but with all the NPCs from Norg walking around. I wish we had more info on Gridania, it definitely seems almost Windurstian, but it's so hard to tell from what little they have given us!

I played bard all the way to end-game in FFXI, and while I loved it, I don't know if I would play it again in FFXIV. I know for certain my character is going to go through a few 'professions,' starting with pugilist (because it fits her story), switching to a tank, and also a money-making class like weaver or culinarian. I would LOVE a job that uses pistols (not muskets or rifles, but pistols!), but we will see if that happens.

That is really scary that it can do that. I checked my accounts & doesn't look like I was hit but wow, that makes me wary of using it in the future, too. Hopefully you can get that all refunded.

holy crap what... *goes to check Skype account*

To Alt or Not to Alt- That is the question...
Aveline replied to Nanapariri's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I always had a "disposable" mule in each city that I could use for minor storage and for speedy AH/regional vendor access, and for a time I had a 2nd character that I used as an alt for leveling and RPing, but I decided I didn't like long-term management of two more permanent characters. If I were to get a 2nd character slot, I think it would be for temporary minor characters that I could delete after the arc was done. Even so, I'm really not sure I want to spend an extra $3/month on the slot. We'll see though. -

Ooh will have to listen to it when I get home. I really wanted to stay for the group discussion but my evening class professor grades us on attendance (WHO DOES THAT IN COLLEGE??).

Hmm good question... up until this point I think Vent or similar programs was left up to individual groups... though I guess it is up to Cas if he wants to try for an RPC voice chat. T.A.L.E. just set one up last week and it is prohibitively expensive the more people you want to be allowed in to the room. Our group is probably going to rent a 25-slot channel for ourselves and we're looking at $120 up front for 24 months. Not bad if you consider the month to month, but when it is all up front in one chunk you need to do some fund-raising. That said, if the RPC does go with making a Vent I will be happy to pitch in a couple bucks.

I say GOOD DAY TO YOU, SIR!

That was really fun! Thanks again for having me on. Hey, just a thought for the bigger podcasts, you could always break them up into multiple file parts. That might make it easier to upload.

It's one of the fire gang, from the best film to come out of the 80's. P.S. I really hope no one is freaking out about this server selection thing. >_> Save your stress management techniques for when the game starts and we all have to start actively managing our shells haha.

Population would really only be a factor in voting if we were voting on servers that already existed and had established populations. We are going to be selecting a server at the latest the day of launch for collector's edition people, and there will be no way to tell what server is going to be the lowest or highest population that early on.
-
Wait, if we just pick a random letter then why is there even a need to vote at all? Isn't one random letter just as arbitrary as the next?
-
This is not the first time people have voiced concerns over there being a delay in the server selection process... but I don't really understand why. We don't know the names of the servers S-E will have at launch, or what methods will be available to us for selection. What is it exactly that people are worried about delaying? We don't have anything with which to make a decision on. The absolute worst-case scenario is that S-E doesn't release a list of permanent server names until September 22 (CE launch date), in which case we'll have to decide that day and people with CE pre-orders can get started on server homesteading. And I'm sorry but you guys can't tell me that if this were the case, the RPC and all other groups would be scattered to the winds. If no one has server names to pick from in advance, no one has server names to pick from in advance. I'm going to guess, though, that since S-E has outright stated that they are aware of peoples' concerns with sticking together (linkshells from FFXI, friends made in beta, etc.) that they will give us a list of servers in advance, and we'll have plenty of time to pick a server before any serverpocalypse happens.
