  1. Absolutely true here. This is a great example of something observable, that we have a clear measure of. The relative wealth of your average family is...well. Not. We have no idea. We don't even see families like, anywhere. All NPC's are either quest givers, part of a quest, or vendors. Some of them are flavor accessories that never move, or speak.
  2. That's the problem. You think. We have no way of knowing. That information isn't in the game. You can't establish a metric of any sort without context, and we are lacking context. We have no idea what the official literacy rate is. We have no idea how necessary it is, given what we see of Eorzean society. We have no idea how satisfied people are with their governments, or their lot in life, or their way of living. We have no idea how the nobility and common people interact, if at all. We have no idea how well, or how poorly Garlemald is doing. We know nothing about Sharlayan outside of "has scholars". In what? For what? Are they like Ishgard's observatory staff? Are they like the Ossuary? The seedseers? Entirely different in general? What is our measure of education? There's nothing that suggests Garleans are atheists. They simply don't believe that the Primals are gods. We also have no idea what the Au Ra believe. We have no idea how that sits with people that worship the twelve. We also have no real indication of how Gridania deals with the Elementals Vs. The Twelve. "Frowned upon" doesn't really say much, though. Before a high-horse is mounted, and I'm told that because I disagree with you, I have no idea what discrimination could possibly be like, let me say the following: I'm brown, and jewish. I've applied to jobs that would not call me back until I checked "prefer not to answer" in the race column. "Frowned upon" means jack shit if they don't turn you away. And they don't. At all. Ever. Anyway. Even though this NPC is a real dick to the player character, that dickery extends even if the player character is of the same race they are. It's got less to do with the character's race, and more to do with the NPC's opinion of themself. On the spoilered text: Nobody likes refugees, period. Anywhere. At all. "Not being at war" isn't a privilege, it's the default state of things. On questions: So how are we handling a simple lack of jobs for these people, then? What happens when we've got enough help? Is blind, dumb luck a privilege? How do we measure that? What about the acceptance of a myriad of societies regarding their rulers? Are the seedseers privileged? Because game world context suggests that it's a burden. In a world where death due to disease and injury is a pretty common fact of life, do you really think anyone's going to shout "ableism" if a call is put out to all able bodied people to keep the town from being burnt by whatever apocalypse rolls up the road this week? Again, where is your information coming from? What context are you placing these questions in? We're lacking in any meaningful information here. Also, I'm still not telling you to drop it. I'm saying that in order to get this down, you'd need to know more about the world than we're actually able to know, given the big, gaping blindspots in the lore, and the amount of guessing you'd have to do to adapt this concept to the setting.

  4. Nobody's talking about earth, though. We can't measure this world's societal structure by earth standards. They're not even at the same developmental stage as our third world countries. Edit: We're still missing the context for the vast majority of these questions. What do we know about faith systems in Eorzea? Who's got an in-road where? We don't really see anyone thumbing their nose at another for favoring another member of the twelve(Correct me if I'm wrong). The police aren't just "on call" like they are in today's world. They're largely available wherever they happen to physically be, as people can't just dial them. Your average person doesn't have a linkpearl that goes to the Wailers or the Blades, or anyone for that matter. The job situation, given the lack of any kind of formal education anywhere, is largely dependent on whatever needs another set of hands. We see that in any of the guilds available. They will literally take anybody. Walk in, get an apprenticeship, start doing stuff. Things like this: Don't even kind of apply here. The "workplace setting" is totally different from what we know of workplace settings. Classrooms almost don't exist. We also have no way of actually measuring this. What samples of information can we take? Where do we get the context for this? Edit 2: Ul'Dah is the only spot that has millions? How much do you imagine one of the Lominsan Galleons, owned by private crews costs?

  6. Even a re-write would assume that the majority of Eorzea's predominantly illiterate, uneducated population was concerned with more than just having enough to eat to live through the winter. It's not really a society where the modern concept of privilege applies. Pretty much none of this list sticks, as it assumes a world where modern conveniences are present. So...are you planning to just churn out a totally new set of questions? Do you have enough information about Eorzean society to do that? What about a population sample? What examples of privilege can you find outside of stated monetary wealth? How do we measure that wealth? Do we include NPC's? Really, I'd just ditch the whole project. I understand why you find it interesting, but this is not the setting to turn this particular lens on. There just isn't enough context to even get started, much less get anything constructive out.
  7. Here comes the part where I show up in a thread. I'll start off by saying: Hey, OP. Welcome to the party! This is how roleplayers do. It's how they do everywhere, in literally every single game. They will claim maturity, and reason, and inclusiveness, etc. What this actually translates to is: If you are willing to join in the hugbox, you can stay. If you disagree with someone, or don't give the proper/expected accolades and backpats, you are an elitist/troll/fake roleplayer/dick/literally the devil. I say this from experience. It's a wild ride, let me tell you. Anyway, As much as I love this bit? And I do. Sincerely, I do: You will never get these people here, or any roleplayers anywhere else to accept this. Ever. Man, I remember back during the last time me and mine were around here? We were told that we were "fake" roleplayers for pointing out a problem with an event's narrative. The dude in question didn't do his research, tried to pawn a widely known plot point/fact of the setting as a new development, and when our characters stood up and said "Yo, this is not news", it was decided, unanimously, that Misericorde was a "troll FC", and not real roleplayers. We've also been told that our realism isn't welcome in this world/community. When we had linkshell leader's meetings (I don't know if those still happen.) There was chatter amongst the leaders present of "taking care of troublemakers". What I'm saying is: Much like Ron Perlman says, war never changes. The root cause of that is that people don't change. Roleplayers, as a whole, are some impossible motherfuckers, and will always be impossible motherfuckers. That doesn't mean don't try to rock the boat, though. Please do. Good on you for expressing yourself, though. Good fuckin' luck after the fact, because they will probably never take you back now.

Dyeable with a /visor option as seen in the trailer, wearing thw same cloak but with thw hood down as he thinks about the bad shit happening and punches a pillar. Right? Why are we not allowed this? This is simple, and reasonable. It is cold and wet up there, give me something to help my face. The contention was never that you wouldn't/couldn't play it. I don't care what you like. I have no sway over what you like. It's not really in line with the setting, and it doesn't have any practical value. Your original assertion was that it did, on both counts. You're wrong about that.   11. Yeah, pretty much this. I mean, for something to be a fallacy, it has to first be false. That's what a fallacy is. In this case, the statement isn't false. Every character in this game functions precisely the same, regardless of what you may personally want. Even from an "rp standpoint", there's a goddamned line that's quietly enforced by the community at large. If your argument is that you have to trust the heart of the cards in order to use a scythe for warfare, in a world where everyone is superhuman in exactly the same way, regardless of physical build and stature, your argument is invalid. Also, echoing that nobody's buying the "Detached cool guy" thing you're attempting. Nobody ever does. Anywhere. Nobody ever has, in the history of the internet. You're posting. You're invested at least as much as anyone else, and people that disagree with you, hard as it might be to accept, are by and large not frothing psychopaths. You're wrong about scythes working in this setting. The world you're playing in doesn't support it. You can like them. You can love them! I thought they were pretty cool when I was like thirteen, so we all go through that phase, I think. But to claim that you want them around because of some kind of function outside of harvesting plants is just absurd. They don't work that way. Also, there is no santa claus. On topic: How about we also lift the false scarcity on housing? Is there a point to that? And to drive it into prop territory: Let's have something a little more practical, and less stylish. I don't need a mansion, or for my cottage to be someone's dreamhome. A simple wood/stone building will be just fine.

  14. Yeah, it's not at all a casual part of a person's cadence of fucking speech or anything. On firearms: Lominsa seems to have some kind of open-bolt repeating rifle on their wall in that thundersticks place. Which leads me to wonder where exactly Eorzea is in it's firearms development.

That was the whole point of the tool to begin with. Is it better than your bare hands in a fight? Sure. If you plan to just bludgeon something with the handle. Scythes are comfortably portrayed in fantasy as weapons because of a gross misunderstanding of the symbolism involved with the Grim Reaper icon. Hack writers see "scythe" and think "Death is wicked sweet." They missed the point of a dispassionate thing harvesting human lives with no need for combat, effort, or sicknasty magic powers. We are as helpless as wheat before a scythe. As for this business about "it's fantasy" excusing anything and everything, you'd be totally right if the setting wasn't already established, and had it's own set of rules. In this case, the limitations of the human body aren't the problem, it's how the weapon is shaped and swung. It's a bad weapon. You can still like it, if that's your thing, but that's not going to change it's quality as an implement for defense/offense. The fucker's just plain shaped wrong. On top of that, with the majority of other entries in this particular setting being shaped like normal arms and armor, with exaggerated proportions for visibility of the model (That is seriously why. It's not because people are super strong, or whatever kind of bullshit gets bandied about, it's because the modelling team wants you to be able to clearly see what you're holding, and it's details.), it's safe to assume that even in this wonderland, shape matters. If it didn't, swords wouldn't even be a thing here. Do you know why a sword works? It's gotta do with planes, son. Narrow ones and broad ones. And now they interact when pressure is applied. On topic: No, seriously. Where the fuck is my backpack? How about a scabbard? Shield strap? How am I carrying this shit. Also, give me my fucking belts back, you cocks. Edit: Also, Bloodborne's protagonists aren't "normal humans", so of course normal people couldn't do that, it's firmly established, and the point is invalid.

And how roleplayers are weird as hell with them? We're basically knee-deep in introverted egocentrists. Let's reflect on your own admission here: You've stated you feel unwanted because people aren't around when you would like them to be. This is a pretty intense reaction. To a degree. This next post sums it up pretty well. I would disagree that the people here are wonderful. I don't know them. But, for close, personal connections? It's totally natural to want to feel wanted and welcome. This is a crowd on a street, though. The majority of people don't know you, and don't care to. See, I think these responses are awesome. We have ourselves a clearing picture of what the problem is: Some people seem to have it in their heads that these little hubs are like extended friend's lists and are their own great big families. They're not. If looking for acceptance and validation is one of the motivators to registering a free account on a roleplaying hub, you are quite literally looking for love in all the wrong places, and are bound to find disappointment. Second practical suggestion: Let's put up a disclaimer that says this horde of strangers is not your family, and that the typical connotations that exist in the term "community" just aren't here. We're not your neighbors. We're not your friends. We're not your surrogate family. We don't know eachother. Relationships are yours to forge, and with several layers of anonymity in the way, you may never hammer out a believable one. Particularly not within one who's primary focus is grownups playing pretend.
  19. You basically don't. You work with what you've got. What we've got is this. A private means doesn't really lend itself to this as, well...PMs already exist on this platform, and you already have as much anonymity as the internet can provide.
  20. You're looking at the method of collecting this information. Right now, this thread has eyes on it, and people are coming forward. I'm currently waiting on an earlier question to be answered, concerning what makes an individual feel "unwanted". From there, we're going to branch into another series of pretty non-invasive questions regarding their perception of where it is they are within a roleplaying community. Over time, and with more specific information from people sharing their experiences, we can, at the very least, personally adopt behaviors that would run counter to this idea of secret cliques and circles of people. Then, we can add what it is that we've worked out, in detail, to the list of "here's how you fix it" suggestions, and see what takes. We will do this over, and over, and over again. In every single community we pop up in. Probably until we quit playing games all together. Realistically, that's about the best anyone can hope for. If what we find works, others might adopt it, they might not. I don't control other people.
  21. The goal is manifold. This is the first suggestion that can be made a reality, given the short amount of time we've had boots on this proverbial ground. You're still on about precisely nothing, by the way. You're also lending credence to the notion that the issue needs to be discussed, as no other lasting practical solution happens to exist. This means, in grownup world, that we need more information on what causes this issue to begin with. Information that comes from an exchange between multiple parties, so that an aggregate with some kind of focus on cornerstones of the problem at hand can be formed. Is there more you'd like to willfully ignore in an attempt to seem way cool and detached, or did you have another volume or two of words that signify jackshit to throw out there?

I have no idea what point you're attempting to make here, or what messages you're reading at this point. It's honestly as if you're speaking another, far more incoherent language. Let's reiterate: What's happening in this thread. Here. Right now. Is a new couple of voices chiming in and saying "Yeah, I'm having the same problem, and here's what I did to try to fix it. It didn't work." These are the people that are now being addressed. The primary method available to us is to put names out there, and say "Here. You can always find some kind of acknowledgement with this name, no matter the circumstances that you see it in." There's never going to be a complete "fix it" list to troubles with interpersonal interactions. So what are you on about now? Because if this exchange is what it looks to be, you're never going to change my mind on how ridiculous you are. You could quite literally spend every word, and busted attempt at sound reasoning that could ever exist in any multitude of realities, and I would still think that your initial dismissal was not only unwarranted, but counter-productive.

What we're dealing with presently are individuals who have come forward, stating rather plainly that the common solutions have not worked well for them. That's what we're doing. See above. What's happening now is addressing individuals that fall into a broader problem. And also this exchange, for reasons that are totally alien to me.
