MAKEUP & BEAUTY - irl and in game! Share your likes :)
Velaena replied to Sukaaretto Ueno's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I have only just come across this so answer OP's questions... My current winter look is very dark plum colour created by layer not one...but TWO lip colours. The bonus us that they are very light and don't feel ike you're wearing a tonne of makeup. The first is a lovely dark pink called Sugar Plum by No7 (I don't know if it's available in the US but any dark pink lipstick will do), then on top of that is Calvin Klein Berry Cool lip gloss (£2.99 from TJ Hughes!). This gives you a nice subtle shine and darkens the pink to juust the right amount for me. If I want a darker colour I will layer some Estee Lauder Hot Kiss lipstick under the gloss. This is all done with a lip brush and the product is used sparingly. As for other products...I tend to bounce around a bit depending on what I can afford at the time. Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer in Green Foundation: MAC studio fix in NC15 Powder: COVER FX Matte Setting Powder in Fair Eyeliner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner + Lancome pencil liner both in Black My lovely Kaguya sporting her everyday look. Dark shadow and black eyeliner paired with and dark red lipstick. -
The title says it all really. I don't really know how people would react to this but from the little lore we have on astrologians I can see it being a possibility given that astrologians have "power of fate". So yeah, what do people think of astrologians being able to prolong their lives by having power of their own fate?

I sure as heck hope that there aren't any assassins at poor Seraphine's wedding. Not that shes stepped on anyone's toes...no... <.< Strange, a continent where homophobia is practically non-existent, but don't you dare marry that Miqo'te. It's intriguing that it would be such an issue, given that all the races are humanoid. I can see Elezen, Miqo'te, and Hyur all mixing without too many issues. Less so for Lala and Roe, however. I agree with this 100%. I think that women have a lot more social status than they had back in medieval Europe because although Ishgard is vehemently religious, they aren't sexist as far as I can tell. Women are guards/soldiers, healers etc. so it wouldn't be impossible to assume they can have a pretty high social status too, and the relative freedom to marry whom they choose along with it. I can also see political marriages being a huge thing in Ishgard. As for my character, this isn't something happening in the next couple of weeks of course, if it were to happen at all. Just curious as to how people viewed it.

Something I've been considering for a while now if the future of my character Seraphine. One day I would like her to get married to a lovely Elezen and such (gentlemen... ). But I would be unsure of how to go about it, since I have very little information about marriage in Eorzea. So I'm turning this over to the community, what is your take on marriage in the setting of Eorzea? -Do only certain races get "married"? -Do you count the Eternal Bond as a marriage ceremony? -What about last names? Would the woman take the man's? Is there any change at all? Does it have to do with position? -Same-sex marriage in Eorzea? -Any other thoughts?

A happy return to her home city-state, although she has been helping in Coerthas for a while. Technically she never left ^^

I love the Game of Thrones link. Bannermen to House Haillenarte ^^

Shizuka is planned to be an IC Astrologian, and has been making her living telling fortunes via Tarot since she arrived in Eorzea. I find it really interesting that people are using real tarot decks to do readings. I can see why though. I'd love to get involved in some sort of FC or linkshell for this after Heavensward launches. It sounds like there are quite a number of people who do this. Maybe we could have something like Soliloquy but for fortune tellers?

How to properly react to RP you don't like (or 'Punting the Puppy')
Velaena replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
My two pence on RP that I'm not keen on is to excuse myself either IC'ly or OOC'ly, if the need arises. If it's somewhere like the Quicksand, I'll likely just ignore it outright since I'm under no obligations to participate, same as everyone else. People can RP whatever the heck they want for all I care, just as long as they don't expect everyone to go along with it. To each their own. I'm really not into the cringey tropes of all-powerful characters, Azure Dragoons, Padjal etc. It just isn't feasible with my interpretation of the lore. Now that isn't to say that I mind lore-bending. I actually find it interesting to see how other people have stretched the lore to fit their character concept, and it's something I enjoy seeing as opposed to a completely lore-friendly character because that person behind the screen took the time to develop their concept. As for White Mages and other jobs (since that's what the topic has gravitated towards), sure. Go for it. A WHM from Shizuka's point of view (do they have the elementals in Othard? I presume they don't but that's my take), she wouldn't really have the knowledge to question it and would likely go along with it. However from Seraphina's or Damien's then you'd have to do a bit of explaining. But again, since they're both from Ishgard they wont really know how things work in Gridania, and so while they may need a bit of convincing they are okay with it. I could be said to be "lore-breaking/bending" because Seraphina is a Scholar IC'ly since they are really glorified strategists who happen to have fairies siding them. Whether or not Sera has a Fairy is yet to be decided, but it's plausible. Damien however, is a knight so is job is Paladin. He isn't one IC though, he just wield a sword and shield. To summarise, play what you want to play. In my opinion, nobody is obliged to RP with anyone else. -
I doubt Shizuka will be venturing into Ishgard IC'ly, since she's not a huge fan of the cold. Seraphie and Damien however are from Ishgard (Elezen), so for her it will likely be a joyous homecoming for them. Well, maybe not Damien but that's another story.

Yeah, seems like a few of my old guild friends have switched over to FF (albeit on different servers) or are planning to after Heavensward launches. It's interesting how so many people are leaving an established MMO for a relatively new one. Maybe WoW is just past it's prime, so to speak. Hmm I wonder what turmoil is going on in Ul'dah now? It seems to be different every time I'm in the Quicksand. I was considering setting up my own FC after Heavensward launches, a kind of inn/tavern that caters more to the influx of Domans and Au Ra. A kind of sanctuary for them that has a few home comforts. It's similar to what my guild did in WoW, though it was for mages on there. It was interesting and lead to some intriguing storylines. Horde for life!! (Though I also played alliance and may have a little crush on a couple of Alliance NPCs...) I totally agree, it does seem like those blissful times in WoW. Especially with the RP community. I think it does echo WoW in ways, and like you I found it easy to get attached to. Here's a photo of one of my boys Bellamy at the yard, you can't see me though since I'm leading him. He's a share with me and my Mum. I don't have a photo of my girl, but she's a Thoroughbread/Dutch Warmblood cross, dark bay mare called Delphi.I've had these two since they were very young, since they were from my Aunt. My other boy -Cosmo- is an ex-racehorse who was a bit badly treated by his last owners because he wasn't great in races. I'm trying to bring up his trust in people slowly. Delphi and Cosmo stabled at my Aunt's farm, but Bellamy is at a local riding school so I don't see him as often.

Hello everyone! I've recently started playing Final Fantasy, and I'm loving every second of it. I have been an ardent fan of the series for years now, and combining it with the MMO genre was perfect for me. --MMORPG background I used to play WoW, and did so for a good few years. Even running a successful, but small RP guild for 3 of them. Unfortunately the community slowly became less and less appealing, and Blizzard have gone too far with their micro-transactions for my liking (I mean seriously, pay to get to level 90?! Pay to get better gear?!). I have to say I have lurked the forums for a while, and on the whole the RP community seems far better. I've also dabbled in Guild Wars 2, DC Universe Online, and Perfect World. --RP experience I like to think I am an experienced Roleplayer, starting from Dungeons & Dragons. I have RP'd in WoW (Horde 4 life) for a good few years on the Argent Dawn (I think?) server and ran a small but successful RP guild. We hosted a few events and progressed through storylines with our RP characters. We also did dungeons and raids IC for a bit of a change, I personally found it very interesting and a good way of telling a story. --Character ideas/info My main character (who will be fantasia'd come Heavensward) Is Shizuka Starsong, an Au Ra who is currently glamoured as a small Miqo'te woman in order to blend in to Eorzea more. IC'ly she is an Astrologian she learned the profession from her mentor back in her hometown. She came to Eorzea with the Doman refugees, sent by her aging parents. She has found Eorzea to be a hospitable place, though it has taken time for her to adjust. She currently spends her time wandering from city to city, making money by telling townsfolk of their futures. Personality wise, she is sensible and often the voice of reason. She is caring towards people of all races, and is quite philanthropic when the need arises. However, she is quite a girly girl and enjoys her comforts and luxuries; when she can have them. Often these traits of her's clash, and she find herself struggling between her moral obligations, and her selfish tendencies. She also has a sweet tooth, and can be quite quiet if she feels uncomfortable. --How did you learn about the coalition? I learnt about the website on Tumblr. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I suppose Medium-heavy. I love getting involved in long storylines, and having the opportunity to develop my character through the events that unfold. I do obviously have other obligations, like college and family. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'm currently in college in the UK (post-16 education) doing a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management. Obviously that, and work keeps me busy. Horses are a full time job on their own. Though I have plenty of time in the evenings, and sometimes during the day. From that you can probably guess that I ride horses too. I also enjoy competing locally, and maybe I can make a name for myself. I also enjoy RPGs, and am really looking forward to The Witcher 3. I love reading as well, though sadly that's most textbooks nowadays. Fantasy novels are still my first love in literature, Lord of the Rings and the like. Right now I'm reading 'The Last Wish' by Andrzej Sapkowski, and It's really intriguing finding out all the history of The Witcher series. Debating on going straight into Blood of Elves afterwards, or picking up 'The Sword of Destiny' first. I hope to make plenty of friends in-game, and have many fun adventures.

Ultimate Fight FFXIV... WTF is this?!
Velaena replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Looks like Street Fighter to me. But I really did love it and would totally buy it if Square Enix made it, even if it wasn't just FFXIV characters. -
Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available
Velaena replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
... I'm definitely intending to do that, yes. I've seen a few other people planning similar concepts. Kind of inevitable. I'm curious if IC rivalries will spring up. In honesty, I'm not too worried about the popularity of the concept because fortune telling is a craft that often depends heavily upon the teller themselves; a lot of personal touches, perspective and intent. I've got a very particular method in mind for my character and presumably everyone else will too. I kind of hope it will be popular so we can see how people will go about it. I have my personal style picked out, and I hope to see many others cropping up. -
Sounds like a Linkshell will be my first priority to set up! Hopefully that could evolve into an FC. I would also love some feedback on possible names.
-
I can see that being true for Ishgardian Astrologian, the craft itself originated in Sharlayan implying that there are other Astrologians out there. That being said, there are bound to be Ishgardian characters that break that lore and maybe want nothing to do with Ishgard. Yeah, the lore is only a few sentences, but once we get more I'll be developing the idea. Like I said, it is only a concept thus far.

Thank you! That was a concern for me too but I think, along with other forms of Magic it would be accepted and possibly taken quite seriously. Taking the example of the Oracle of Delphi, for arguments sake, shows that there has been a huge buzz around knowing the fate of oneself. Though prophecy is in no ways limited to Ancient Greece, it was also popular among many ancient civilisations. It is closely associated with Romani people also. I think in terms of Eorzea, they are at the point in history where they still don't know much about the world. Religion and magic are commonplace, but there are also scientific and industrial advances. For this reason I think it would be met with skepticism initially (as would all new practices) but as it is a type of magic and is legitimate in that sense, it may grow to be quite popular.

Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available
Velaena replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It would be Au Ra, you only use Auri if it's an adjective. Plural and singular forms of the race is Au Ra. So for example "look at that Au Ra over there" or "look at all those Au Ra over there" or "look at this Auri weapon." Thank you. I wasn't too sure. -
So as I was discussing the Au Ra and the Astrologians while trying to sell Heavensward and FFXIV to an irl friend who plays WoW they basically asked if the Astrologians could interpret the future. I thought on it a bit and I don't see why not? It says in the description that Astrologians of the past "laboured to master the skill of foresight" and apparently did. So I was thinking that my character could make her living being a fortune teller. I started talking to my friend about this and I kinda figured that other people would think of this too, since it seems like a pretty obvious route of IC Astrologians other that the academic one. So my concept! An IC Astrologian centred FC where we would make money telling people their fortunes or answering questions about their future (like Oracles of ancient Greece), but may also pursue more academic activities such as charting stars. Obviously we wouldn't be closed off to other jobs IC or not and it definitely wouldn't be Au Ra only. We would perhaps operate out of a Free Company house, and then have travelling members/groups that would host events elsewhere. Readings may take as long as they wanted of course, and it may double as a tavern FC with refreshments being provided. I'd imagine our star charts to look something like this... Now some questions I imagine people will ask would be along the lines of; 1) How would you tell people's fortunes when obviously you can't see the future? 2) What if people want to be involved but can't because they are in an FC already? 3) What other roles would you need in an Astrologian centred FC? 4) Would you actually be making money?/Would people really need to pay? So. 1) There are two possible ways I can see going about this. The first would be to make such vague Nostradamus/Pythia-esque predictions that nobody can really refute or approve them. Alternatively, we would talk to the players OOC before or during the reading (probably in /tell) about what they had planned for their character and what they wanted or didn't want to hear. ICly I would either use the star globe as a kind of crystal ball and/or the cards as tarot cards. However, whilst I would personally choose the second way of presenting the reading that would be up to the members themselves. 2) If people want to be involved that's great! If that happens then a LS would be set up either IC or OOC about events and when they are happening/where they are happening. As I said, it wouldn't be a static FC and so I would hope there would be interest since players aren't pinned down. 3) That would depend on how things develop. From the get-go I think it would just be the fortune tellers themselves. But once the house is opened then I would personally like to see stewards/hosts, bar staff, kitchen staff including a head chef and his/her subordinates, possibly entertainment such as IC bards singing/playing while people have their readings done. If it became popular then I would imagine that security would be added also, perhaps presenting the opportunity for some cross-FC roleplay. 4) I leave that entirely up to the players. If that want to immerse themselves that much into the RP and gil isn't an issue for them, then sure. But I wont force anyone to actually give our members gil, and I would hope that other people don't force that upon people either. Please feel free to PM me/reply if you're interested or have any feedback!

Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available
Velaena replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm so pleased with the Astrologian lore and the Raen lore. I can't wait to make a pretty little Auri (Au Ri?) girl making her living by being a fortune teller. Though I realise that concept has probably been thought by one or more of you lovely people. If it has, maybe there could be a guild for it or an FC in the player case. I'm not quite sure on her motives for leaving her home, though right now I'm thinking of the Garleans invading or maybe a personal reason. I may even end up using a fantasia on Seraphine and bulshitting about how it was a glamour all along or something... I dunno... I'm also really psyched about the fact she was shown in a full length dress! A real dress!! Though I do really like the idea of tribal warfare for the Xaela it would be interesting to see how people sin that. I mean, there has to be a reason these tribes are warring right? So maybe that resentment carries over to individual characters. Kind of like the Montagues and the Capulets. Maybe they too were forced the emigrate to Eorzea for reasons and they brought their conflicts with them. As a side note I really enjoy their designs in what I've seen so far. I love the contrast of the female model of the website and the darkness of the male. I just prefer the more aethereal appearance of the Raen. As for the influx of Au Ra characters, I think it's inevitable. I think that many people like myself, want to play an Au Ra because they're new and a bit of an enigma. As for Raen rarely leaving their homeland, I'd wager that it's subjective. A rarity in half a population of an entire nation may be tens of thousands of people. I haven't yet seen a map, but say that the Au Ra population was comparable to size of say...The UK. That's 64 million people. 0.1% of that is still 64000 and a sizeable immigrant population. Then again there aren't 64 million people on ther server, but you see my analogy I hope. I think it's also important to note that they aren't like the Miqo'te (as far as we know). By that I mean that the population isn't restricted in any way as of yet. There may well be millions of Au Ra in the world (theoretically). Therefore, I think it can be justified as to why there may be a huge influx of Raen and Xaela to Eorzea. Also, if I don't see a 'Friends of Red Jenny' FC for DRK I will be thoroughly dissapointed. -
Or more clothing in general, honestly. Particularly the lower level stuff that I can put on my alts that will never be leveled. I'd also like more persistent emotes, particularly expressions. I'd love it if they lasted longer, or were persistent until you stopped them yourself. And yes! More civillian clothing, like merchant wear, guard wear, noble robes etc. Me too! I want a pretty dainty girl who looks as fragile as a flower, but also kicks major butt. I'd kill to be able to see my party's TP, makes being a bard just that bit easier and doesn't disrupt a fight with people needing tp ask me to sing. ^^^ More housing plots and preferably cheaper ones too! Cloaks would awesome, even if they were just cosmetic. You could have you FC logo, or the Grand Company logo or something. CAPES. CLOAKS. Even if they're attached to armor. Please.

I just confirmed my pre-order for the physical CE (UK). I'm really excited and it'll be my first collector's edition for a Final Fantasy game.
-
US pre-order! Will I be able to install the game with an EU account?
Velaena replied to Velaena's topic in FFXIV Discussion
UK customs charges caused SE to ignore the concept of currency conversions? o.0 That doesn't really follow. Having had to price things for sale internationally in the past, it's pretty standard to input a USD price, a euro price, a pound price... wherever you intend to sell it. Disturbing to me that SE feels they can just ignore that. I dunno I just know it's an issue with games prices in the UK in general so the price is likely down to many factors rather then just basic currency conversions. It's not just a SE thing. I just said it was likely, but I believe they have yet to give people answers as to why it's that price. It's just my understanding from previous arguments before about the price conversions with other games. Might just all depend on what you are selling. I think the point is that SE looked like they just changed the currency symbol instead of converting it. If they justified their pricing by giving a breakdown of costs then that would be great, but they haven't and it honestly just looks like a huge F-You to EU players. As someone mentioned above, at least during the 1.0 release EU players got extra stuff to make up the difference but not for 3.0. Unless they do justify the pricing I'm sticking to the theory that it was a sneaky business tactic so they can get as much money as possible, which is understandable from a business point of view but it still sucks. It is a problem with most games and tech stuffs. Here's an article from the BBC on it. -
Does anyone know where on earth the physical collector's or the digital collector's editions are for the PS4?
-
This sounds like a lot of fun!
