US pre-order! Will I be able to install the game with an EU account?
Velaena replied to Velaena's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Well for 1.0, when we preordered we got more physical items than the NA players here in pacific regon. Eg. We got a Flask, Adventurers book, CD etc. I wasn't around for 1.0, but that is definitely a great way to comp players. If they did that I wouldn't mind paying the extra £40. -
US pre-order! Will I be able to install the game with an EU account?
Velaena replied to Velaena's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Thanks for clearing that up. I really hope we do get the pre-order bonuses. I think we should get extra because we have to pay more, but that's just my opinion. -
The title says it all really. Since SE is being horrid at pricing I want to pre-order my Collector's Edition from the US store. But it occured to me that I might not even be able to play the game once I get it. IS FFXIV region locked in any way? Will I be able to use the game from the US with an EU account?

I know that feels

ARGH! I can't believe SE screwing EU players over like that. It's absolute BS! Thank GOD that the PS4 isn't region locked!!! If the store would even log me in... **EDIT** Will I even be able to install the game in the UK?? I know PS4 games aren't region locked but doesthat apply to FFXIV??

This came up on my Tumblr. A lot of angry EU buyers are sending some strongly worded emails Square Enix's way. I haven't personally, but unless they adjust the price I certainly wont be buying the physical CE, despite how much I really wan the dragon statue.

I love this thread. It's so cute (and sometimes not...). For Seraphina! Anywho, For Seraphina

I'm liking the new DRG armor, I think the first one looked badass but the new just imporve on that. The WHM and BLM remind me a lot of the Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches from Bayonetta; which is not to say I don't like them, I really do. I suppose they just don't seem as original. I think I'll level to get them, I'm not sure yet... :?

balmung Ishgardian Elezen looking to experience more of the world
Velaena replied to Velaena's topic in Chronicled Connections
A common history sounds really interesting. ^^ This could be a great experience for Seraphine. Meeting someone who has a completely different perspective on Ishgard and their practices. I think Seraphine could learn a lot from Evangeline. Reading the wiki profile, I think our characters could really hit it off. They seem quite opposite, but I agree they could have a lot to teach each other. Thank you to everyone for the offers! -
I have completely re-written my main, including a name change and a visit to from the Aesthetician (god I love that guy). So to compliment that I'm posting a new connections thread. I'm looking for someone who can bring a naive, and somewhat timid character out of her shell a bit. Also, someone who is willing to let me develop my character more since I haven't really worked out her personality. Any race, any gender. Seraphine is a polite young Duskwight from Ishgard, a member of a minor noble house, and IC an Arcanist. Thanks to being raised in Ishgard, Sera hasn't experienced much of Eorzea, and wants to before she has to assume her role as head of House Arceneaux. More on her Wiki. Out of character I'm still levelling arcanist, but I have a lvl 30-something bard for OOC activities. I'm also a European player in the GMT timezone, English is my first language. I'm looking for Light-Medium RP, since I'm still trying to get through content and level, but I'm always open to more heavy RP since I've got ages before the expansion comes out. I'm open to Romance IC, but it would have to be natural and not forced. I'm also totally cool for our characters to have a past! It's not something I see often, but the first time our toons meet doesn't have to be the first time our characters meet. ^^

Is this still going forward?

Posting my two pence here, because why not? On the topic of the original post: I'm a female playing and roleplaying as a female character. She's femenine, a minor noble in Ishgard, and hopefully (providing that Ishgard isn't against women taking on typically male roles like the Catholic Church for example) the head of her small house. I haven't really seen too much of a skew in either direction but then again I rarely visit the Quicksand since I'm rarely in Ul'dah for more than five minutes. From my trips to The Golden Saucer I've seen quite a few more female characters than male characters. Though this is to be expected as was said before females tend to prefer to play females, and there are more females in the world than males. Logically, there would be a wider female player base. I also think this says something about the franchise itself because through all of the Final Fantasy games there have been strong females -Yuna, Lightning, Fran, and Tifa to name but a few- so I think that the franchise as a whole strongly appeals to women. On the topic of gender and society in Eorzea (paraphrasing because that's what it has become in the recent posts): I think that while Eorzea is a fantasy world it is heavily influenced by real world culture. There are gender roles like there are in the real world and there are not. There are fantasy constructs like Magitek and Aether, and there are not like The Holy See of Ishgard being a theocracy. For me, this gives the world some substance and life. In any world there are going to be preconceptions about men and women, and there will always be people who go against those preconceptions. I think that's what can make great characters. A woman rising above the laws that society has imposed upon her (ala Queen Elizabeth I), a man who doesn't want to be big and strong who want to stay at home and be a househusband (ala my uncle because I can't think of a historical figure). Likewise, there are gay characters in FFXIV so we know that in Eorzea you can be gay. I've not yet come across any trans characters, but that would be quite interesting. In that sense you could have a female avatar role-playing as a trans character so would identify as male. I imagine that would skew the statistics quite a bit. Are you counting the sex of the character, or the gender identity of the character? **On a side note I wonder how these characters are recieved? Is this a normal thing? Is there a stigma against being LGBT or not? Is it different in the different city-states?**

I plan on going down the SMN/SCH route since it has that variety and it fits what my final iteration Victorique will be. Research about lore etc will be done though so I don't get any lore nuts riled up during RP ^^ What would be the fastest way to level the DoM classes since I will need Conjurer and Thaumaturge at 15 anyway. I got Pugilist to 15 just by doing leves, since nobody was doing FATEs, but that took me 3 days of grinding. Is there a faster way?

Yeah this is the issue I have with Bard. It's ridiculously easy and boring to play both in and out of dungeons. That's honestly why I chose it in the first place, my first character (since getting back into FF) and I wanted an easy ride. Now, not so much. And sorry! I didn't realise, but I can see it now. If people want to pounce on me to do Titan (after I finish the ridiculously long chain of quests leading up to it) that's totally fine! The less wait time the better.
-
Hmm yes. Indeed. Uh oh. The F R E E S O L D I E R Y signal has been lit. Seriously, though, if you can't find people to help you queue into the new dungeons for whatever reason, mentioning that they'll get the first-time soldiery bonus will help sweeten the deal. Bribe your way to the top! I wasn't trying to bribe people. Simply explaining that I wanted to get through content faster.

Whilst I love the class itself, there just isn't any variety in it. Which can be true for almost all the classes. Most of it though is the queue times for the Duty Finder. I had to wait an hour to do a dungeon that was part of the main story (though I ended up chilling in the Gold Saucer for a while). I want to be able to go through content quickly so I can be up to date for the expansion, and since I'm not in an FC there are no static parties or anything. What I like about the SMN and SCH is that they have an element of variety. SMN has the Egi's and SCH have their fairies. As a side note, my Chocobo+Carbuncle is letting me blaze through stuff. I love that I can have two pets essentially. This was post-2.51? Depending on where you are in the story, it might be slow just because nobody is doing low roulettes given the big content patch just now. It was definitely pre-2.51! haha! I'm really not that far into the story yet. I haven't even battled Titan. Though my experience with queue times is that they're must faster during the day (GMT) than they are in the evening because of the time difference. Like, at 12 noon a queue might take me 15 mins, as opposed to an hour at about 10:00pm. It's just how things are right now, but I really want to be able to get through the content quicker.

I haven't played BLM beyond leveling it to 50 for the sake of completion, and SMN only hit 50 because it shares the same base class as SCH, but I'll answer what I can! I wasn't aware that they levelled together? Though it makes sense since they both come from arcanist. If that's true could I level them both simultaneously while doing the Job quests for both?

Hi all! Having returned to the game in January I opted to start fresh and create a new character. Then I was once again forced to take a hiatus from the game. Thanks to all of that I'm not very far in (am just about to face Titan). That being said, I'm playing as a bard. A good class don't get me wrong, but it's becoming very repetitive and boring so I want to change it up. I prefer to play ranged classes so I though a DoM would suit me. I'm just having a hard time deciding which, and whether or not I should just suck it up and continue with my bard. My questions are probably ones that have been here a thousand times before but here goes. How do the job classes (SMN, SCH, BLM) play at higher levels? How is healing on a console? I've heard it can be easier because of the D-pad, but also slower? Will it make a huge difference? How are queue times for healers now? How could I RP as any of the aforementioned classes? White Mage is pretty out of the question for now. I would probably level it eventually, it's just I can't really RP with it and such.

Verranicus, I'm unsure why you're treating my thread as a space for you to vent your complaints about other people's play styles. I've encouraged players to share their thoughts, concerns, questions, and suggestions, but you're only making presumptions. This thread isn't even about Nunhs, and Valaena was simply drawing a comparison. If you don't have anything constructive to add to this discussion, please refrain from posting here. The RPC has multiple threads for complaints, but this isn't one of them. I seriously have to commend you for keeping your calm. I don't think I could. As for that, I was drawing a comparison of canon constructs that players have adopted into RP. My point was basically, if we can do that and not have too many people object to it, then surely we can RP as members of the Ishgardian Nobility. I'm not saying that you have to be the head of House Haillenarte. They may have a huge extended family that still have the last name but need documents to actually prove their lineage; for example. What I'm saying is that it is possible to do it in a lore-friendly way. There's no way this will be everybody's cup of tea, as it clearly is not yours. If you don't like it, then simply don't get involved.
-
Hi RPC, I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone on here would be going to Comic Con in London this May. I'm going with two friends, and it would be really great to meet some FFXIV players. I was thinking about cosplaying as a Final Fantasy or RWBY character, though this isn't certain at all. What are other people going as?
-
This is a great idea in my opinion. Since we have players in Miqo'te tribes/families that are canon, we have players that are members of in-game organisations like the Sultan Sworn, The Brass Blades and the like, and now we have something Ishgardian to look forward too. I personally would love it if we could have a Free Company for the four High Houses, and then a number of Free Companies for lesser noble houses that are connected to the high houses. If that is canon (or maybe even if it isn't and we need to come up with our own fanon because SE doesn't fill us in completely). So we would have something like this eventually.

Victorique looked around her home, her younger brother played with expertly crafted toys on the floor and her father sat reading a book by the fire. She had given them a better life and one that they deserved. She should have been happy, so why wasn't she? "What's wrong dear?" her father asked, as father's are wont to do when they see their daughters pacing like Victorique. She smiled weakly "Nothing father, I'm just thinking." Her father placed his bookmark in between the thick pages of his book and set it down carefully on the table in front of him. "You're so much like your mother Victorique. She couldn't sit still either." Victorique smiled at him in earnest, tears welling in her eyes. "You see, when your mother finally settled down with me she was restless. Always pacing and trying to occupy herself. She even tried to learn to sew, tried her garments out on me... Can you imagine your mother sewing?! I swear I have more pin pricks than actual wounds!" They laughed together, but that brief respite from her troubles was far too fleeting. It was true that Victorique had what she wanted now, she had become a full fledged bard and given her family a home and a place in the world. They became respected members of society and felt the pride flow through them. Victorique chided herself, That should have been enough! she thought. What more could I possibly want? I have everything... But Victorique didn't have everything, although you could hardly say she knew that she wanted it until now. On her adventures she had come across many things, great cities and fearsome enemies. she had formed unbreakable bonds with her friends and would always keep them close to her heart. Victorique had also come across so many wonderful people who had managed to find love, even in the choas of the Seventh Umbral Era. She hadn't realised it at first but Victorique was somewhat envious of these people. As a Duskwight she had always face a sort of prejudice, though she always found solace with her Free Company and the people that looked past her appearance. Despite the solace though she was never able to form any romantic bonds. Victorique now realised that being like her mother was not simply becoming a bard, but settling down and perhaps being a mother herself one day...
