Think we started FFXIV roughly the same time. Glad to hear that you're back at it with roleplaying and welcome! I've got an alt on Mateus and I've found that the community as a whole is just as friendly as Balmung can be. Hopefully you have the same great first experiences I did.

Once entered the Grindstone tournament with a sword and shield made of wood. Failed miserably.

Hello! Fellow Euro-Balmung player here too. Along with the others here, I haven't had much issue finding random/event-based RP, even during the daytime here. Totally worth it! Welcome to RPC regardless.

All awesome screenshots! My favorites have to be the roleplay scenes Here's Jean, my tomboy/androgynous street urchin with a dream to be a Knight someday. With the help of some new friends, she's been learning some swordplay with the Gladiators guild. Earned her first real blade by competing (and losing the first round) in the Grindstone.

I'd say the Weekly Event Calendar is a great place to start. You'll find all sorts of amazing player-run RP events/RP hubs. Inns, Taverns, Fighting Tournaments, Health Clinics, you name it! If you want more casual RP, The Quicksand is probably your easiest bet. Another option is to look into the various linkshells and Free Companies listed here, if you're looking for a group that fits your character's style or just need some extra friends! If it's a choice between Famfrit or Balmung, I'd go with Balmung. Hate to downplay the server spamming, but if you're looking for RP...the choice is obvious. Have fun, welcome, and hope I see you around!

Welcome! I'm EU also and I'll say, I haven't had much difficulty attending events or encountering RP at any time of the day, especially on weekends. Quite a few events/RP hubs are EU timezone friendly, so I'd take a look at the calendar on Roleplay Events page here on the forum. Enjoy your stay on here!

Give your character concept more credit! I'm sure she's awesome based on the breakdown and not just another Garlean. My character doesn't have any ties to note to the Empire, but there's a quite a few awesome characters that fit what you're looking for. Best of luck!

Two albums of this weekend's Grindstone and Runestone tournaments. If you participated, check them out! A few months ago, I used to feel the same way about the character creation. What changed my mind was large scale RP events like the Grindstone. You'd be surprised at how much variety you can have, even if your creation options are limited. I think we can owe it mostly to glamours and pure creativity. Definitely changed my perspective.
