  1. Yes, but as the toughest server to get on it's not somewhere you go on a whim.
  2. I am a filthy elitist and therefore use lore to come up with my names. Ansabryda Baenskalwyn means Scythe Bride, daughter of Bone Servant in the old Roegadyn tongue.
  3. Maybe because a few of us from this site, went on the official forum and kept asking for Balmung to be open so we could make alts or get our friends into the server. That might explain why I've been seeing a lot more I'm-not-an-RPer-and-I-want-you-to-know-it names lately.
  4. Balmung has been open around this time for at least the past 3 days. I wonder why.
  5. Fai, the site you advertise didn't send me a notice until 8am, half an hour after I posted. Who knows how long Balmung was open before I noticed it myself. The site's claim that it checks once a minute is a load of bollocks. Closed now btw.
  6. It is currently 7:31am EST February 18th Balmung is open at this time.
  7. I certainly hope it shifts to somewhere other than Ul'dah. I never liked Ul'dah.
  8. I can't find ducklings cute anymore because of "Scientifically Accurate Ducktales":
  9. On my first character, an inferior non-Roegadyn, someone gave me 10k when I stepped into Gridania.
  10. Passive aggressive condescension isn't necessary dear That was going to be my last post in this thread.
  11. *Meh* Like I said before, it happened before, it's happening now, and it'll happen again. Different names, same arguments, same insults, same naivety, life goes on and nothing is learned. Not angry, just tired. So tired. QKeK1BjoXgk
  12. I've had this conversation so many times before in so many MMOs I'm not even angry at the inevitable responses. That picture I posted? I made it in MSpaint 15 years ago when I was playing Everquest. It always goes the same way: I plead for RPers to have a place of their own, I'm accused of being an elitist and having a bad attitude, I say "You'll see, RP will disappear and I'll say I told you so", RPers continue to welcome their own destroyers with a smile, non-RPers vastly out number RPers, RP is relegated to specific guilds, there's nobody around for me to say "I told you so". Rinse and repeat The disturbing thing here is this topics existance is essentially agreeing with me. People want on on Balmung sooooo bad and most RPers here are already on Balmung. Why? Gilgamesh's RP scene is identical to Balmung and it's much easier to get on right? It's not like the difficulty in getting a spot on the server somehow filters out people that aren't dedicated right? It's rather weird that you're expending so much effort to get what you insist is the same result. It's not the same and you darn well know it. EDIT: Oh and QueenFrejyalen, I said nothing of RP quality. Your "slippery slope" is one of your own creation.
  13. That's not a very healthy outlook to have on it. RPers having to crawl up a nigh-insurmountable wall is not going to help the server as a whole. I've had friends who wanted to use the trial to test the waters in RP on FFXIV, and haven't ended up getting the game because they were not able to get into Balmung for the entirety of it. You use Moon Guard as an example. Despite Goldshire being a hub of ERP and bad roleplay, Moon Guard has an active, thriving roleplay community while still being a massive server with a fair amount of non-roleplayers. A server being large does not diminish the roleplay community, and maintaining exclusivity is going to end up excluding just as many (if not more) future roleplayers as it does non-roleplayers. Fai's website is a good suggestion, though! Highly recommend that. Call me an elitist but this is what kills RP servers. Not the non-RPers but the blind acceptance of non-RPers by RPers. You're the character at the beginning of every alien invasion movie that sees their menacing warship and says "maybe they come in peace", nope they see your planet/server is nice and they want it no matter the cost to the natives. Just replace iron/water/air/brains/etc with "community". Non-RPers are parasites, I don't mean this as an insult but in the literal sense: Parasitism is a non-mutual symbiotic relationship between species, where one species, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host. Why do you think RPers want to get into Balmung so bad? Gilgamesh is a lot easier to get into right? The second question is its own answer, Gilgamesh is easier to get into... ...for everyone.
  14. Dunno if I'll make one. Aside from not knowing the lore yet, I like being rare and Au Ra sure won't be that. Besides that, I prefer playing my own gender and the girls are generic looking.
  15. I like how hard it is to get on Balmung. It keeps non-RPers out because you have to be dedicated to get yourself on. The first time I got on Gilgamesh I noticed 60% of the people had names like Taco Supreme & Awesome Mcgee and the entire time I was there I never overheard two people speaking ICly. Without things like difficulty getting in or bad reps (a la Moon Guard) RP servers quickly get overrun by *BLEEP* *BLEEP*ing *BLEEP*ers that "come for the community" and end up watering down if not outright destroying that community with their sheer numbers.
  16. To get on Balmung you have to wait for maintenance. Once it's back up you have about an hour to do your thing.
  17. Man, there's a lot of super serious characters here in here. Ansabryda is an ex-pirate turned adventurer (Pick oranges? No thanks mate) f55CqLc6IR0 This also works: ggyC0FOzqHM Really, most Alestorm songs would work.
