  1. After a delay caused by real life throwing whatever it could at me to keep me away from the game, I've replied to all of the responses I got. Here's hoping for some more!
  2. Heya folks! I'm a long time Final Fantasy XIV player, dating back all the way to the dark ages of 1.0, and I'm looking to make some contacts amongst the RP community and possibly find a longer term partner to hang out with. I have a couple characters in mind, but also some overarching things I look for in a partner or habits I tend to keep as an RPer in general. So read on, and see if anything interests you! About Myself: My RP characters are not level capped yet, so if that's a dealbreaker for you I'm sorry. My playtimes are somewhat erratic right now due to a hectic work schedule, but I tend to play during most of my free time which equates to quite a lot. I'd like to be able to get along and be friends out-of-character with any prospective longer term RP partner. I find it difficult to immerse myself in an RP story when I can't joke around OOC or just chat about random stuff on the side. I love RP, but sometimes I just feel like kicking back and playing the game on my main who I do not RP on. I may not be the best fit if any time we're both online is expected to be 100% RP. Sometimes just doing our own thing while chatting via tells/whatever is just as fun! I would definitely prefer something longer term as opposed to a sort of "one shot" scene, I find the best RP stories are built over time rather than being rushed in one session. I am a sucker for traditional adventure RP: a pair or group starting off in a city/town on a humble job that eventually turns into a quest that takes them across the world. Throw in some drama and romance and it's perfect. This is as much about me settling on a main as anything else, so once I find someone or some people I'm content I'm a good match with I'll likely shelve the other characters so I can focus on the one. I'll link the (very much WIP) RPC wikis for my characters below with a brief description of each, with more information available upon request. I'm trying to avoid spoiling too much about them, though, so I'd prefer to keep responses to PMs for the most part. My Characters: Hamul Argo Hamul is a Xaela from the Argo clan (which I made up because he used to be a Hyur but the name sounded tribal enough that I figured I could get away with it), who were fiercely isolationist, going so far as to send all members of the clan off to live alone on the steppes when they became adults, only to return once a year when they would gather to compete with one another and pair off. This left him socially stunted when it came to dealing with outsiders, though since coming to Eorzea he has been doing his best to be less intimidating to strangers, though he's still disappointed in what he perceives to be other Xaela throwing away their traditions to better assimilate with Eorzeans. Grinnaux Etienne: A former medic for the Order of the Twin Adders, Grinnaux is an Elezen who pays for his travels by acting as a wandering healer and sawbones. He does all of his work the old fashioned way, having little aptitude for any aether manipulation, but was brought up by his physician father to follow in his footsteps nonetheless. Though he considers the Twelveswood his current home, he enjoys a good trip and good company, but will settle for an enthralling book if none is available. Cassius Nerva: A seasoned adventurer of over half a decade, Cassius is professional and good at what he does. Confident, cool and composed, he ventures the length and breadth of Eorzea and pays his way by taking contracts from local adventurers guilds and contacts he's made over the years. He's a friendly sort, enjoys reading but doesn't often stay in one place, rarely staying for more than a day or two before he takes the next job that will put him back on the road. In Closing: Like I said, these were just brief little blurbs and there's a bit more info for each on their RPC pages. If you like the sound of any of them, or just the idea of a long-term adventurey RP, drop me a PM and let me know and we can definitely set something up. Hope to hear from some people soon!
  3. Back after a plethora of real life interruptions. Bumpity.
  4. My friend and I assumed the Au Ra spoke their own language given they were from a totally different part of the world. (We call it Othardic) When we talk in their own language we put ()'s around the stuff, and when they talk in Eorzean they're naturally not fluent in it.
  5. Also sent you a PM. Friend and I would love to RP with you.
  6. The inspiration is taken from Tactics Ogre, as is many of the gearsets, a setting where they actually have heaps of lore and backstory to support why the various factions and nationalities hate each other down to their very blood. Unlike in FFXIV, where you'll see people want to lynch all Au Ra because.. ???
  7. To further clarify my point, I'm not disputing the irrationality or unaccountable nature of racism and the concept of prejudice as a whole. I think most everyone can agree that such things are inherently a byproduct of the unreasonableness that resides in every human brain. What I am saying is that if you intend to play the "racist" character trait for meaningful drama, having that racism be arbitrary or nonsensical effectively kills that drama and makes it trite and banal. Graeham's prejudice against Garleans example is a specimen of a character trait being substantial in its makeup that can lend itself to compelling conflict. Saying your character hates Lalafells because the Lalafells keep screwing them over on shop prices is barely enough to warrant a footnote in a character's trivia section. Perhaps I'm merely beating the dead horse so vigorously that I'm mistaking its necrotic twitching for signs of life, but my end point remains: it's not unreasonable in the slightest to ask for variety and accurate representation of the setting by playing as a racist or prejudiced character. But if you intend to make that racism or prejudice important in a narrative, then the trait of that racism or prejudice has to be set up in a way that is significant to not only the character, but the audience as well, and Eorzea does not have too many avenues for that besides the aforementioned ethnic conflicts. An Ala Mhigan being racist to Au Ra? A Limsa Lominsan being racist to a Dunesfolk Lalafell? A Gridanian being racist to a Seeker Miqo'te? An Ul'dahn being racist to a Hellsguard? These are things that have to be well-defined beyond Freudian excuse and lame anecdotal evidence to be taken the slightest bit seriously within the setting or at the least, within a narrative. Otherwise, the prejudice seems forcibly shoehorned and awkward and only serves to make the character as a whole less believable. I've seen a few Ala Mhigan refugees being racist towards Au Ra now and each time I roll my eyes so hard they fall out. Not only is there little to no lore supporting anyone being against theyr arrival in Eorzea (barring Ishgard for their obvious Dragon-y traits, but even that is never addressed by the setting itself), but the irony is thick enough to cut with a knife. Like I said, people invent things to make their characters dark and gritty because they assume that also makes them interesting. It doesn't. Not everything is Game of Thrones nor should it be.
  8. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Eorzea is nothing but sunshine and lollipops. It's when people RP it as nothing but a racist, dark, horrible place based on what a tiny fraction of the NPCs and lore say. If the tension between races was as prevalent as a lot of you guys seem to treat it, we'd be having race riots on a daily basis and mixed race relationships would be punishable by death instead of.. you know, encouraged and extremely common like they actually are.
  9. Some people seem to be fairly desperate to make the world they RP in as grim and dark as possible. Sometimes a fantasy world is just that. There may be racist remarks here or there, but you don't need to take it as far as some people and treat it like the USA in the 1920's or something like Warhammer.
  10. Think I've sent most of the people who PM'd me or posted in here replies. Still working on it. Thanks for all the interest. =)
  11. How can you not like Xaela names? >_> It's so nice to have an interesting new naming convention instead of just "choose your favourite animes!!" like the Raen. Even though the rules explicitly point out that you shouldn't be doing just that, people sure like to.
  12. Lost access to my PC for a while there, but I am back and have edited the OP due to some changes. Still looking for a longer-term partner.
  13. Considering she's a conjurer I wouldn't say it's out of character for someone thinking they were about to die to channel a huge burst of white magic similar to holy.
