::bows head:: Good night, sweet linkshell, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Way haul away, we'll haul away together, way haul away, we'll haul away Joe! Way haul away, we'll sail away forever, way haul away, we'll haul away Joe! :approve:

Gross indeed. "Uh-oh, that burst the appendix."

What can of worms? *Is sometimes very stupid when it comes to english expressions* To "open a can of worms" is to introduce a topic that is almost guaranteed to cause trouble. Compare "opening Pandora's Box".

Only because everyone here is more qualified to be a politician than the ones already in office Truer words were never spoken. I say we secede and form our own server!... err, I mean, country.
-
Wow, finally caught up on this one. Personally, I think we should engage in some reverse psychology. Let's say they stick with the "villians" server-name theme. Obviously all the twerps will be "Oh Sephiroth cool!" and go there, right? So we pick the lamest villain in the list. The one that the twerps will say, "Oh, no way, man, I'm way too cool to be on *that* server." Thus our server isn't overpopulated and we get to take that villain's weakness and make it our strength. (Incidentally, in my opinion, we have to go with Garland, if for no other reason than being able to say "You dare badmouth my server?! I, Garland, will KNOCK YOU ALL DOWN!!!" )

I eat out waaaay too much. I'm cutting that out. No more of this "eating my paycheck" nonsense. Or at least as little of it as possible. Anyway, back on topic. Just waiting for payday now (7/20) to place orders. >.> I was worried about the 6GB thing. I don't know why, I've never had more than 2GB. It's just the old maxim in my head, I suppose... "Each new Microsoft OS consumes exponentially more computing power than the previous one."

More than enough is good. What fun is playing a mage if you have to turn spell effects off?
-
Okay, guys, I'm officially insane. I am actually going to do this. I am going to buy a new computer. I can *sort of* afford it. >.> I have to live on like $150 for the next two weeks. But I can manage that. Ramen noodles are cheap. >.> Is 6GB of DDR3 2000 good enough to run FFXIV, you think? Or Windows 7 in general?
-
Typical. All of that for a wind crystal.
-
Rats.... well, I suppose that makes sense. Hey Sony, toss me an 8GB RAM chip, won't you?

Digression from topic for technical support! :study: Neilietheous, I'll bet you did the same thing I did... clicked on the word "REVEAL" next to the word "SPOILER" (in ArmachiA's first post on page 1), and nothing happened. You, my friend, have JavaScript turned off. If you're using Firefox, you're probably also using NoScript. Just allow "jquery.com" scripts to run, then go back to page 1 and click "REVEAL". The list of jobs will show up. If you're not using Firefox... you should be! (Seriously, though, I have absolutely no doubt that whatever browser you're using, we have somebody here who knows how to fix the problem. ) We now return to your regularly-scheduled forum.

Well, the PS3 is, uh, a bit more robust than the PS2. We can hope. >.>

... ...... My PC has a whopping benchmark score of 170. I bought a PS3 specifically for the purpose of playing FFXIV, and now I get to wait another six months? Not happy. Not at all. (And as much as I agonize over picking a character name... I'd better start thinking of alternates if I can't create a character for six months. )

Dragon Age: Origins. I think I'm on my tenth or fifteenth playthrough.

Hiya Endi! Welcome back!

Yeah, as has been said, APM is a lying b-- err... fatherless child. That's not enough to demonstrate god-moding. If people couldn't lie, how could we have bad guys? I mean, that's the first thing you do on the road to being bad. The devious plotting of the downfall of known civilization comes later. That being said, it's true that there are people who, as Kes said, behave like toddlers and cry "Godmode!" every time a wolf shows up and starts eating their sheep. These are generally the guys who deliberately break the rules, get thrown out, and then tell anyone they can find that they didn't break the rules and were unfairly discriminated against. (Lawyers in sheep's clothing?) Anyway, I tend to agree with Varov about the strict-scrutiny thing, but there are ... opposing extremes. The rules shouldn't be so strict that there is no room for discretion. If someone is obviously causing problems, you shouldn't have to wait for five notarized depositions from three witnesses and a game master and a majority vote of both the House and the Senate in order to do something about it. On the other hand, it's not very polite to say "The council has the right to suspend or terminate your membership at any time and for any reason, and your acceptance of membership constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of that right". Not everyone believes in the "benevolent dictatorship" model. :joker: There is a middle ground, somewhere.... right? :study: P.S. --

Yeah, I'm for chocobos. Or, I don't know, being able to fly. Lalafell + big paper wings + stiff breeze = WHEEEE! Seriously, though, in addition to the point-to-point aetheric transport system, I do hope they have some sort of free-roaming transportation system at the start, as opposed to a Dark Age of Camelot-style "Horse Route"-type system, or just having to walk everywhere. As for the flag-carrying thing, I'll have you know that tarutaru use beasts of burden. They are not beasts of burden themselves.

Well, here's how I see it. (I'll write it as I would write it on a random website somewhere, to an audience who isn't necessarily familiar with RoleplayerSpeak. ) --------------- God-mode (verb) (hyphen optional): To perform In-Character (IC), or attempt to perform IC, actions which are clearly beyond the power of any player character. --------------- Meet our exemplars, AbsurdlyPowerfulMan, or APM, and UnfortunateGuy, or UG. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about them. Example1: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan wiggles his pinky finger, causing a flaming crack to open under UnfortunateGuy's feet and convey him directly to a firey death at the planet's core. (APM is clearly god-moding. There is simply no means within the game for any player character to do that under any circumstances. And what if the world doesn't actually *have* a flaming core?) ---------- Example2: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan gestures with his right thumb, causing a bolt of lightning to strike UnfortunateGuy and fry him to a crisp. (Still godmode. APM may very well be a Conjurer capable of tossing lightning bolts around, but UG might very well have survived the blast, depending upon how tough he is, or how resistant he is to lightning. Or maybe UG does, in fact, have tremendously fast reflexes that might allow him to dodge the bolt!) ---------- Example3: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan raises an eyebrow, causing everyone within ten yards to think that UnfortunateGuy has stinky feet. (Yep, godmode again. APM cannot dictate what other people think or feel. Whether or not UG's feet actually do stink is, of course, another matter entirely.) ---------- Example4: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan waggles his fingers, causing a bolt of lightning to streak forth in UnfortunateGuy's direction. (Not godmode! At least, not if APM can actually toss a Thunder spell.) ---------- Example5: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan holds his nose. "Wow, UnfortunateGuy, your feet stink! I can smell them from all the way over here." (Also not godmode, and probably just as likely to make everyone else within ten yards think UG *does* have stinky feet!) --------------- Metagame (verb): To make In-Character use of Out-of-Character (OOC) knowledge, or knowledge gained through OOC means. --------------- Example1: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan, having never consulted an alchemist or alchemical text in his life, spends the afternoon before the castle raid mixing together a large batch of sulfur and saltpeter. "This oughtta blow a hole in the castle wall!" (Clearly metagaming. Out-of-Character, APM obviously knows how to make gunpowder. But, even assuming that sulfur, saltpeter, and gunpowder even *exist* In-Character, there is no way that APM would know that mixing them together would do anything, much less how much of each ingredient to use.) ---------- Example2: AbsurdlyPowerfulMan, faced with the prospect of raiding an imposing castle, visits the Alchemist's Guild to acquire a few healing draughts. There, he sees an old man demonstrate his new invention, "fire-sand", a black powder that explodes when exposed to fire! Intrigued, AbsurdlyPowerfulMan purchases a large sack of the "fire-sand" from the old man. "This oughtta blow a hole in the castle wall!" (Not metagaming! OOC, APM still knows what gunpowder is, but his *character* doesn't have any idea... until he happens to see the stuff in action at the Alchemist's Guild! Let's hope he has the good sense to stand well clear of any open flames between here and the castle....) ---------- Example3: UnfortunateGuy's player posts on the FFXIV RPC forms a bit of his character's background, including a secret place he has underneath a warehouse in town. Later that day, UnfortunateGuy's character opens the secret door behind the haybales, to find AbsurdlyPowerfulGuy waiting for him, sword at the ready! (Metagaming. The only reason APG's player knows about the secret place is because UG posted on the forums about it! APG's character has no way of knowing about it, much less getting there *ahead* of him to set up an ambush.) --------------- That about covers it, I think. Thoughts, everyone?

(Just add baked goods regularly....) RL Name: Oh, just call me Riki, everyone else will. RL Age: 36 Country: United States of America Timezone: Eastern (Florida) RL Gender: Male --Why do you like to RP? Games can be fun, for a while. But eventually you get tired of them. It's the MM aspect of MMORPG that make you want to stay. The people you meet and the friends you make are what make these types of games great. RP Preferences: --Are you willing to RP a fight scene in game? For just some random "I'm a-gonna pick a fight with you" sort of thing, no. Personally, I strongly dislike PvP of any sort. I'd much prefer to just get along with everyone, so I play the sort of character who, more or less, does get along with everyone. That being said, if it's part of a storyline of some sort (and if everyone else will let me, of course... I always used to mutter OOC about having THF at 75 but never being allowed to assassinate anyone because my friends would intervene IC before I got into position for the killing blow... ), I'd consider it. --What is your preferred method of combat? (/randoming, skill based, etc) More of a "let's think about who should win and then work out the details" sort of thing. (Roegadyn pugilist versus Lalafell pugilist at close range? Despite potentially being the player of the Lalafell, my money's on the Roegadyn, unless there is some other notable circumstance. ) --Are you willing to take major injuries in game? (ie limb loss, comas, etc.) One of my characters tried to lose an eye once. His friends went and got him a rare potion that grew his eye back. I couldn't very well tell them after the fact that I didn't *want* it. In a fantasy world where magic exists, even death isn't permanent. Why should anything else be? --Are you willing to let your character die permanently? Generally, no. Over time, I put a lot of hard work into my characters, and I hate to see it lost in that way. However, in some circumstances.... well, let's just say it had better be a darn good story. Like, "I'll be telling people who never played the game how awesome my death scene was" kinda good. --Are you willing to RP romance in game? How far are you willing to go? Absolutely. I had some pretty hard lessons in keeping IC and OOC separate, many moons ago. As long as both parties are able to manage IC/OOC, though, it can be fun. As far as "how far I'm willing to go"... well, you can't have kids if certain things don't happen, but that doesn't mean you have to go into detail as to *exactly how*. I much prefer the "fade-to-black" method. --What kind of non-romantic RP relationships are you willing to take part in? (family ties, etc) I'm open to suggestions. --How far from the actual lore are you willing to stray? Not very far at all, unless it makes sense. For instance... just because in FFXI lore Fenrir doesn't spontaneously manifest in Sarutabaruta and drag unconscious tarutaru back to Windurst doesn't mean he *can't*. --Views on chat functions (IC vs OOC)? /Say and /Linkshell (to use FFXI commands), in my opinion, should always be IC, barring the occasional emergency or announcement. I'm something of a purist, though... I tend to put parentheses around anything I say OOC, even if it's in /tells or /party and even around non-RPers. I've long since lost track of how many times somebody in a hunting party asked me what the parentheses were for. --Are you looking for Cross-guild Rp? Can't imagine why I wouldn't be. Caveat, though: strictest guild rules apply. If your guild allows its members to have hoverboards and mine doesn't, I'll be the only hoverboardless guy. --How do you prefer to be contacted? (PM or post in this thread) PMs work fine. I'd suggest email, but who's going to actually type out [email protected]? So... many... vowels...

I confess, I took the easy way out on hardware requirements. I bought a PS3.
