This whole party system of RPing seems weird to me. I understand that you want to keep things limited to avoid chat spam. I want to try this new approach but I need some pointers. And have some questions.
What if there is an odd number of people?
How do you tell if someone is in a conversation?
Can you still use emotes?
Can you approach a couple that are in one on one to get into their conversation?
How do you do introductions? Publicly or one on one?
I haven't been RPing because I am trying to figure out a class and character concept and trying to learn the game and the world in beta so once release hits I can RP better with all of that out of the way.
I agree that the best way to find RP is to start RPing. You don't need to have another player to start RP. React to NPCs and things other players around you do. People might not respond but you might be surprised.
There was a meet and greet posted on the site. Not sure how that went since I wasn't able to attend. Keep an eye out for stuff like that. You also might want to try to set something like that up or mention on this site a time and place when you are going to be RPing.
I actually REALLY like this feature. It gives you a notification to tell you that they are in an instance. If it didn't then I could see it not being a good thing. It really isn't all that different from Deadly Boss mods in WoW.
Benefits:
1) Helps you with immersion because you don't have distractions from your story.
2) Helps you to not be distracted in boss fights and battles.
3) You have less chance of missing a /tell. I can't tell you how many times I was so involved with a fight that I missed someone talking to me in other games.
Negatives:
1) You have to wait til your friend isn't busy to talk to them.
I am in a similar position. I originally wanted to be a Paladin so I set up my character to be from Ul'dah but then I tried lancer for S&Gs and loved it.
I plan to remedy this by having my character be raised in Ul'dah but then proceeds to Gridania for some reason and decides to take up the lance. Then have her ready to go back home. Kinda like she is going to lancer college lol. I don't have a problem RPing that she is new to her lancer training though. This wouldn't work if you want to be more of a veteran at your class.
Be sure to fill us non legacy bloats in!
I am anxious to see how my character finds all this stuff out icly. I am assuming they will tell non legacy somehow as well. Just in a diff way.
It was mentioned that the Seekers of the Moon are also part of or at least common to Girdania. Of course I have no link or anything to back that up.lol
6. None whatsoever, to our knowledge. Yoshi-P seems very much against it, considering his particular objections to F2P.
This makes me SO happy.
7. IMO the day/night cycle is way to short. 70mins I heard but can't confirm. Hoping this gets adjusted because the day/night/weather system is very beautiful to look and something that I would rather implement into RP then ignore.
oh yeah... it does sort of suggest that Legacy characters automatically get put on a legacy server but then can transfer to any world they want via application. Not sure if it is limited to other legacy servers or not though since it states "During the World transfer application period indicated above, players will be able to select a destination World on the World Transfer Application Page."
It doesn't really say which servers will be on the list.
Also some other info
I have onboard sound. Not sure how to find info on that.

Alrighty thanks. Those things get outdated so quickly I was worried it was my processor.

I will try that on Friday. I may have already, not sure.
I remember doing the benchmark WAY back when it first came out and I didn't remember my score being bad. However when I played beta I experienced some very fluctuating FPS as low as 5 at times and almost 50 at others. I turned down the graphics but that didn't seem to do much if anything. Out of curiousity I performed the benchmark test again and got 1920. So it is evident that at least some of the problem is with my PC. My questions are:
1) Is there a way to improve this without upgrading my PC? (I already turned the graphic settings down. Resolution maybe?)
2) How would I figure out what exactly with my PC is causing the issue? I don't want to just assume it's my video card because it is a fairly good one, but who knows.
