  1. You seem like a pretty nice guy, and I'd love to try a scene with you to see if we click. I prefer not to have to wander into the QS alone as well, and prefer to do either one-on-one scenes or small groups of friends. Community events are also a lot more fun with a partner, and even going into the QS is much easier with another person. I shot you a message on Discord to set something up, if you see this in time, we could try something tonight!
  2. You don't need to know anything, because most of the Final Fantasy games happen in their own universes and are not connected at all. There's plenty of clothing, don't worry about that at all. There's almost TOO much. Seriously. The server question is the only real problem you have to worry about. Balmung is THE RP server, and it used to be so full that the only way to get in was to transfer. SE locked it up now so that doesn't even work. Gilgamesh was another alternative RP server, but the "progression" community murdered and chased RPers off the server, so don't even bother with that place Mateus is the new hotness, and its turning into what Balmung was before Balmung was locked. My recommendation is that you just try the game without worrying about RP servers first, just to see if you like the game, If you do, then shill out to transfer to Mateus or Balmung if its unlocked by then.
  3. Stand your ground, you should care less about the issues they fabricate than they do. If they get snarky about your race, get snarky back. It's only as true as you make it. If someone tries to force you into a fight, tell them no OOCLy. If they try to force you further, then just god mode willy-nilly until they rage quit, and if they try to hold it against you point out that you didn't want to fight. Who care about the op ions of such people.

  5. Great leadership and members, they run events all the time, as well as continuing RP scenarios in the discord. Recommended.
  6. I brought this up before in a linkshell, but apparently my reasoning was too outrageous for anyone to calmly talk about it, and instead I was personally insulted by something like 5 people because of having such an extreme opinion on this matter! Buckle your seatbelts, because after the last time I said what I'm about to say, I got blown out of the water for it...are you ready? Okay. 1) I think that jump potions and MSQ should meet in the middle. 2) I do not think that SE should monetize the game's failings 3) I believe in permanent long-term fixes to problems instead of extreme solutions (everything or nothing in this case) 4) They should just create a streamlined, much shorter series of quests that tell the story of the game, while removing all of the fluff and fetch quests. 5) While doing this, they should bring more emphasis on players doing instanced content via the leveling roulette, and motivate new players to advance through the story and allow them to IMMEDIATELY play with their friends from level 1 The story doesn't need to be skipped, it needs to be improved. What kind of message are we as players sending when we say, "Not only will we not care if you don't fix this horrible, broken, destructive part of the game that drives away new players, but we'll actually PAY you extra money for not fixing it to offset the lost revenue of the players who have quit the game over it!" Paying SE extra cash to bypass a broken part of the game is just insanity. What motivation do they have to fix the game's issues if they are paid for not fixing them? What other issues will arise that they will simply make a jump potion for in the future instead of fixing those problems? Monetizing problems with the game is really scummy, moreso than any other possible monetization. I don't believe jump potions should exist outside of the players who have already achieved level 50 and beyond, and instead I believe that a more intricate overhaul of the MSQ is required, as well as an overhaul of the new player experience. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed with a serious solution. Slapping a pricetag on a potion to skip it all is most certainly NOT a solution. Its paying them to avoid making a real solution. Its bad for the game.
  7. So many great responses, but after some speaking with people in game, I've decided to write this into a backstory short story fanfiction instead, as I've found the ending to the situation. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll be posting it here, as I just went maximum-edge on it, and there's quite a few parts that would most certainly not be okay to post on this board! I may make a censored version and post it here later. Thank you guys for being encouraging, I've already torn into it, and I'm very happy with the results so far! Next stop: TO THE EDGE OF EDGE
  8. Hello everyone, longtime lurker here! I've recently had an inclination to throw off the shackles of balance and sanity and fanta'd from a highlander into a cat! In the course of doing this, I've decided to really refresh the game to myself by maining a new class and making a totally new RP character who is also completely different from any RP characters I've ever made in the past! I thought about it for a while, and I've always admired seat-of-the-pants edgy characters (even if they are a bit shallow a lot of times). I've come up with a basic character concept, but I was watching The Resurrected the other day and it got me thinking about stuff! So even though I have a functioning backstory for my character at the moment, I'd like to summarize this idea to see if its too wacky to even attempt. I work at a bookstore, and I have so many different rulesets for various universes and fiction that unfortunately they kind of bleed into each other in my head, and I don't have a great gauge of what is too outlandish for a certain universe (especially when I've gone out of my way to be as edgy as possible with this character!). I don't wanna be an annoying time waster though, so I'll skip the fluff and get right to the idea I wanted to present for some ruthless critique! The Concept! The character is murdered after some drama, and wakes up in some kind of underworld/purgatory (represented by Palace of the Dead). They are attacked by monsters/demons inside, and have to fight them off while moving from rest-spot to rest-spot. This goes on for a very long time (maybe even years?), with them meeting other people inside the labyrinth. Eventually she finds her way to the "top" floor, and there's a hole that opens up to the sky. They walk outside to find themselves back in the mortal world, and are very disoriented about where they are and how they are, as they specifically remember dying and know they were dead. Quite maddened by their predicament, they sit next to a tree, where they fall asleep...and when they wake up, they find they are back in the maze, except even further down! They notice its much hotter and darker, and so they make their way up again, butchering monsters en masse until finally they reach the top, but this time it begins to fill with dirt as they approach! They dig through the dirt with their hands, and notice as soon as they are outside in Eorzea again, they are immediately wracked with what feels like months worth of sleep deprivation, but conclude that if they fall asleep they will be taken back, this time in an even hotter and darker place that they won't be able to escape from. So they go looking for someone who can help them, a mage of some kind? Someone who can find a way to cure their tiredness so they never have to sleep again? That's as far as I got! I know there isn't much basis for it in-game that I can think of, but I also can't think that it actively conflicts with anything, and I thought it was a kinda interesting (and very edgy) concept. I've always thought potd was very interesting, especially because it feels like there's such a lack of understanding of it (maybe that's just me!)
  9. I send them on a long undefined quest, and fanta+name change my character, if I ever feel like changing back, they can just return
  10. A great deal of GITS street cred is that it was what a lot of people consider to be the first animated movie that reached the level of visuals, narrative, and seriousness of a well executed live action film Making an actual live action film of it is kind of oxymoron when you think about it
  11. Think about what you actually want to do through the character, do that, then allow the personality to form as you do it. Try things as they come to you, experiment as you like, and note the things you want to keep. The first 1 or 2 sessions will be rough, but by the third session you will have a character that is perfectly sculpted to you and your purpose. Then lay out your notes and connect the dots until a bigger picture emerges, you don't need to spend hours and hours pondering and writing lots of throwaway ideas. An rp character is easiest to grow if you just plant it in the soil of rp, then water it. Once it's grown a bit, then all you need to do is trim it.
  12. Step 1: Find partners interested in the type of RP you are interested in in the long run You can do this by a)Putting ads up on the forums, this site, or other sites where rpers in this game are known to congregate, b)finding a free company that does the type of rp you are interested in and getting with people within that fc, or c) doing social/public RP in the Quicksand, meeting people there, and interviewing them individually to see if they'd be interested in the type of RP you are looking for Step 2: Network using one or all of a-c above, get a group of players that you know and just RP with whoever is on or around and build a group of your own, you might be able to form a LS for this purpose, or just use a LS to meet more people within other people's networks Step 3: Maintain your relationships or axe them, don't just keep a massive friends list for the sake of having lots of options, if someone doesn't jive with you or breaks promises to you, move on, there's plenty more people who will match with you Give it a month and you'll be absolutely bathing in RP, maybe even more than you can handle or desire
  13. This entire topic is fascinating from a social research potential perspective
