  1. Agreed. I enjoyed the SCH mechanics in FFXI but I doubt they will be the same in FFXIV. I'm expecting more of a focus on debuffing and DoTs, if they come from Arcanist like we think. I'd like to see them do something with Libra/Study/Scan/whatevertheycallitthistime too.

I was thinking more along the lines of items you could get from shops. The clues would describe the item and people would have to decipher it and find a shop where they could buy it. It could also be done with landmarks, enemies, NPCs, etc. The person would have to find it, take a screenshot, then submit all the screenshots to a coordinator. That's probably too intensive to be one piece of a big fair, but it would be awesome to do as a standalone event.

This is a great idea! What about a scavenger hunt? Could do it with inexpensive/common items like food, potions, crafting supplies, etc. This.
  4. I'm interested. Sounds like fun. It's been a long time since I've done a forum RP.
  5. In FFXI, Scholar was a hybrid mage that alternated between light and dark magics. Whichever they have active, their skills in that magic are boosted while the other are much lower. They also have job abilities called grimoires, which have different effects on casting, such as halving the MP cost or casting time, boosting power, or turning single target spells into AoE spells. But the grimoires only work on the school they have active at the time. For example if they have Light Arts active, their skills in healing, enhancing, etc are boosted and they can use light grimoires to effect light spells, but their dark magic skills are mediocre and they cannot access dark grimoires. They can only use a set number of grimoires before they have to recharge. They also have many Scholar-only spells: Helixes, which are powerful dark magic DoTs, light magic Storm spells that change the element of the weather around them, and buffs that boost or reduce a party member's aggro gain. There's also two spells they can only use while under their 2hr, Embrava which gives Regen, Regain and Haste, and Kaustra is a brutal dark magic DoT. The fun of playing SCH was juggling between light and dark magics, strategizing with your grimoires, and keeping the weather around you and your party set to the element you want.
  6. It's awesome! You captured him very well. Thanks!
  7. Very cool. Another reason for me to actually get into crafting in this game. So many of these look great. And Fisher has a cowboy hat. Sold.
  8. There's a disappointing lack of /slap on that list.
  9. I think it would depend on the situation, but there's some game mechanics that can be overlooked and some assumptions that can be made. If they're in a fight or out in the field, a character would not realistically stop and change all their gear to a new set which they just happen to have stashed in a magic Mary Poppins backpack, they would just drop their weapon and grab another. I would probably RP it this way, ignore the magic armor change, then after the fight switch back to the first job for appearance's sake. If they're in town somewhere preparing to leave though and they wanted to main a different job for the adventure, it would realistically fit that they changed gear in an inn somewhere. In that case I would agree with the guys above and RP it out.
  10. Possibly, but it seems more likely that using Scholar would take away Carbuncle, in order to further differentiate the job from Summoner. Arcanist is described as a class that uses grimoires for DoTs and debuffs and summons Carbuncle, which reads to me like a mix of the old XI Scholar (somewhat) and Summoner. So if Arcanist can advance to either Scholar or Summoner, it looks to me like if you go Summoner, you would lose most of the DoTs and debuffs in favor of having more powerful primals to summon, or if you go Scholar you lose the summoning in favor of more powerful magic and DoTs. Basically the class would do a little of both aspects, but the two jobs are both masters of a single aspect. Just speculation right now of course. We'll see come launch.
  11. Ooo! Hopefully my character has enough info so far.
  12. The thought of having Scholar in FFXIV has me excited. I had been considering playing Arcanist some, but that would seal it. I was an every-mage in FFXI with SCH as a main. Being a SCH again would be perfect. They should sell prints of the poster. I'd get one.
  13. It looks like that's true. The collector's editions aren't available on Amazon or Gamestop's website, or anywhere else.
  14. I really like that there are so many different and unique areas, like huge ancient ruins and the crystalized lake looking area, instead of just a bunch of open fields and landscapes that all look the same like other MMOs tend to do (GW2 is very much guilty of this). No two areas have looked the same! I'm excited just to explore everywhere.
  15. Cookies & cream for Caysen.

Yep! I've always seen healing magic as more of a patch-up. It repairs the injury slightly and keeps it from being life-threatening, but doesn't just make it vanish completely. Like getting stitches, just magical ones.
  17. I'm thinking Caysen will be a clock maker. A decent one too, when he can be bothered to actually work. He'd much rather be traveling, but in order to keep some sort of livable income he puts that skill to work doing repairs when needed. He can also do compasses - they're fairly similar. That would be considered his "main" job, but certainly not the one he enjoys me most. He prefers to pick up work as a fisherman, navigator, or sometimes even a cartographer. So I guess you could say he's employed, but prefers to live as if he's unemployed. I'm also working on an alt who I'm planning as an ex-cooper (barrel maker) turned freelance mercenary, so technically unemployed. If anyone's interested, this site has a good list of professions typical for an old world/fantasy setting: http://www.sff.net/people/julia.west/callihoo/dtbb/fantjobslist.htm
  18. This is awesome. So much more customization. I'm looking forward to seeing people's characters. The height slider is great, but I wish they would add in a number for the height as well, so you can get the exact height you want instead of just trying to guess.
  19. I think it's more hinted at than specifically shown. Bahamut is only shown attacking Limsa, so you could reasonably infer that Ul'dah and Gridania aren't hit in the video. He doesn't say anything about Gridania though.
  20. Has SE released any lore info on what happens during the 5 years between Carteneau and the reappearance? I've been reading lore lately and haven't found anything. I'm interesting in things like what happens to the Grand Companies after the battle? What gets destroyed and rebuilt, or just abandoned as ruins? Were the Garleans able to take control, and if so what happens to the city states and their own governments? Or does the war keep going?
