Pretty much this. Depending on how you RP will open up, or lock you out, of certain folks who play in their own way. What matters mostly is are you having fun?

If you were caught using a spell particular to that type of magic wouldn't you automatically be given the label regardless of if you wanted it? If I RP as a Thaumaturge and use my own Aether for spells I'm not a BLM particularly. The second I draw Aether from my surroundings to power my spells a good number of people would probably be at my throat calling me a Black Mage regardless if I considered myself one.

*reads bio* *screeches* Wha?!? Consorting with pirates? Drinking??! FLIRTING?!? That's it missy! Back to the Shroud with you!

I've had folks come back to their house because I messaged them to see if the location was open. It works! Just come up with any reason! Looking for armor, weapons, clothes, food, potions, a new marlboro plushie to sleep with? Stick your head in a RP house and go asking about for it. Hell, maybe you're drunk and you kicked in the wrong door by mistake! Either way it's been an easy way to get RP for me when nothing else is forthcoming.

I don't particularly see a need to bring a character forward from a past time if you wanted to recreate them in the current game. At least then you can still play that character's personality that you enjoyed if that is a preference but at least adjusting them to fit the current setting would be beneficial in the long run. I like a number of characters I've created and played in many different RP settings. I use them as templates now many times because it's like visiting with old friends again. At the same time, I also try to make them slightly different so as not to totally retract all my old steps.

The tiny flame floated and danced in the breeze. Called into existence it gave light, warmth, and life though little would that be in its small world. In the eyes of the girl whose hand it floated above now it taunted and laughed at her. It mocked her frustration and burned away her hopes. It was an agent of destruction that scorched her spirit. "Void take you!" Sana spat as she dispersed the tiny flame to the wind yet again. She sighed and ran nimble fingers through her hair and turned to look out over the small valley and waters nearby in Eastern Thanalan. She had come back to this spot a few times since her mentor, Alexa, had come here to give her the first truelesson she had received in Thamaturgy. Her mind boiled with a frantic mixture of thoughts from recent days. Her work at the guild was never ending when she was there and what she was gleaming from the books she borrowed to read were illuminating, but she lacked the fundamentals to make use of the knowledge. Her work with Alexa in the shop and private room, whichever it seemed to be at the time, was sporadic as well. To top it all off, she had run into her youngest brother and sister outside of Ul'dah! In her mind she stomped and raged about, 'How dare her mother think to send Erah'sae to 'keep an eye on her'! If that woman thinks I am going to just return home to start a family....UGH!' Her face twisted to match the sound of disgust chasing away the very concept. 'I wonder if she even realized Nefzen has left as well, and gone to Limsa Lominsa to consort with pirates no less! That girl is going to get herself killed. Erah'sae maybe first with this silly notion of training as a gladiator. I've got to break through this cursed block before something happens!' This time the groan of frustration flew off into the night as it escaped from her lips. She turned away from the valley and back towards Ul'dah in the distance. Clearing her mind she closed her eyes, stilled herself, calmed her breathing, and worked to push away errant thoughts to cause her to lose focus. When she was ready she lifted her hand, palm up, and once again whispered the words that brought forth the tiny flame once again. Time and time again she had tried to push her Aether to feed it the life needed to blossom into a force of destruction, but either the flame or her subconscious resisted her continuously. A cool breeze brushed through her hair and caused a shiver to run down her spine. In the back of her mind she desired the warmth of the fire more to ward off the cold than anything. Even so tiny it looked inviting as she watched it dance in the wind. It was made of her life so why couldn't she be part of it? Her eyes grew heavy as her mind wandered into the flame; dancing and twirling unfettered by cloth or flesh. She wouldn't desire warmth, she would be warmth, and she wanted more. She breathed in deeply and she blossomed higher as her arms stretched upward waving in the never ending dance of her essence. She laughed and the world around her grew brighter illuminating the body she no longer needed. She had grown, but it wasn't enough! She could be so much more now. She breathed in deeper each time growing hot and brilliant. She swayed and flowed beckoning any to come bask in her presence. She would show the world her magnificence! Before long though each breath grew shorter no matter how much she worked to take in. She tried to dance higher but her arms seemed to grow heavier. Something was wrong. She was running out of that warmth to draw upon! She needed more! She cast about looking everywhere. Nearby she sensed it. Energy...life...warmth. With a cry of need she lept and grabbed for it with all her might! Before Sana the tree exploded as the fireball consumed it. Her body was thrown back as her senses returned to her. She tried to rise, but she was suddenly so cold and drained. Her breathing grew shallow and everything seemed far away. Her eyes looked upon the smoking and glowing remains of the tree and a lethargic smile broke across her face. She started to laugh drunkenly as her heavy head laid upon the ground not realizing she had activated her linkpearl, "I...I did...it..." Soon after she passed into darkness.

I find I have a disconnect between trying to figure out a good cost to pay when it's RP, general in-game markets, or the NPC vendor costs. Also, I'll RP with anyone who wants to spend some time talking clothes really. Doesn't have to come to a final deal (yes Sana is pretty broke I think in the relative terms of money people seem to have!)

I'd be happy to come RP speaking to you, but Sana isn't overflowing in gil in any way, RP or game-wise at all. lol

Does anyone RP out as a tailor or seamstress with an advertised shop? I'm looking to RP out at least looking for some better clothes, currently around level 27 THM.

""My name is Saaaaaaaaa.." she covers her mouth again as another yawn forces its way free. "Sana is my name. It would have been much more pleasant to start if it didn't involve bodily collision at least. If we meet again then perhaps next time it will be much more of a pleasure." She nods her head and offers at least a tired ghost of a smile, "Until then, keep your eyes open. Twelve forbid you run into one of those armored brutes running about." She moves around Ayane and towards a dark room and welcoming bed.

Sana looks at the hat and then points up to her rather large cat ears, "I'd have to poke some large holes in it to comfortably wear it. I just didn't expect to be out when the sun came up is all." She covers her mouth to stifle a yawn, "If there is somewhere you'd like me to point you I can do that. Otherwise, if you're going to stand here wanting to talk longer I'd prefer to do it after I've gotten some sleep and the sun has set at least."

Sana waved off her assistance with her free hand, pushing back up and dusting off some more. The dark skinned Miqo'te peered closer at her, looking her up and down, "Well if you're sightseeing there certainly is a lot to see, but I wouldn't go wandering far outside the walls. Personally I'd wait until the evening when it's cooler, but as it is been pointed out to me repeatedly most people are accustomed to being out during the day like this." She points to one of the stone benches scattered about the main street as well, "You can certainly also just sit around and watch all the people passing by. There are quite a mix of sights to be seen there alone. Also, you won't bump into people trying to rush somewhere."

She covered her eyes again trying to see who she ran into without the bright glare of the sun blinding her. She growled a bit under her breath, dusted off, and then sighed, "It's fine. I can't see anything with all this damn light in my eyes. What are you looking for? Someplace to eat? I've found a few taverns that may be worth trying, but I've only been in Ul'dah a short time myself."

Sana was exhausted. She had been worked to near death by the Thaumaturgist guild with various menial tasks for hours on end. Worst of all now the sun was up and she wanted to be tucked away in her darkened room sleeping. As a Keeper of the Moon she still couldn't fathom how people dealt with all this SUN! She walked with her hand trying to shade her eyes as quickly as she could. Combined with her exhaustion and wandering thoughts she didn't see the girl before she ran into her! She cried out tersely as light flooded her weary and bloodshot eyes, "HEY! Watch where you're going!"

Thanks Aiswynd and Sounsy! Sounsy, your previous lore threads are where I've gotten a lot of my info so far! It is certainly a lot to absorb too. I'd love to pull in other people for RP so the idea that maybe having to go through other disciplines to do testing would be a lot more fun not just for me, but others as well I would think looking to put their skills to use.

While doing some research searching through old threads for the lore and what-not about magic I happened upon the footnote where Thaumaturges channel their own internal Aether for magic. Not just that but their limit is set as to what they can use and cannot expand it, but is there some sort of known existing test one can conduct to determine what your limit would be? Is it only through trial and error that a THM would find out what their limits really are?
