And the New Year begins! Finally decided to actually illustrate what Lain's coeurl cub looks like or illustrate enough to give the idea anyway!

Welcome to FFXIV! I hope you enjoy the game and find yourself pleased with trying it out. Since you're looking into RPing, I would highly recommend focusing on getting onto Balmung more that Gilgamesh. I love Gilgamesh, as it was the server I was one before I transferred. However, while Gilgamesh is highly populated and active for PvE, Balmung's RP scene is miles beyond Gilga. Especially from a walk-up and "see RP around in the world" stand point. Balmung is difficult to get onto since it's a high population server, so if you do attempt it you'll want to try early in the morning or right after maintenance opens up. Another thing you can do is make a character on a low population server and then, if you find you enjoy the game from a PvE stand point, transfer the character to Balmung. It costs a little extra money, but tends to be easier than fighting with sneaking in the open windows that Balmung is open to new characters. Not impossible though, just have to be patient. Once you have a taste for the RP scene, definitely use this place as a resource! You'll find a bunch of different types of Free Companies, Linkshells, people looking to make connections and things in between! Some geared more towards finding RP, others that are social-based... etc! People are are super friendly and I'm pretty new myself and it's been a lot of fun. Enjoy!

I'm still looking to finding more consistent RP for Lain and I'm on often in the evenings. Usually when I engage in an RP I can stay on until my partner has to leave (I get hooked), but otherwise I do have a few things here or there like a normal person- but I'm on FF more than I should be probably. Nothing like looking antisocial and mean, but actually being outgoing and awkward! \o/ C'laihn is fun to invent ways to go up to people. 1.) Oh man that smells so good. It looks good too. "Uh... hey... " Gimme that food. I want it. I'm so hungry. I bet it tastes amazing. "I was just wondering... where'd you get that? It looks delicious." I hope it's not expensive, Vin used the rent money again. Maybe they'll give me some for free... 2.) I wonder if this little trinket I found is worth any- "Oh, s-sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you! Are you alright? Are you sure? Are you sure you're sure!?" They don't look hurt, but I feel really bad. I might have ruined their day. OhgodswhatifIruinedtheirday. "L-let me help you carry that! Where're you going?" 3.) "Are you waiting for someone?" They look sort of lonely and alone. I wonder why they're not talking to anyone... "No? Oh. Uh, well want some company? I'm not waiting for anyone either. Er... I mean, if you -want- company... er not that you do but just if... if you do..." I wish my brother hadn't left me here... again. 4.) I wonder what's in that crate they're carrying. "..." I really want to know what's in it. It's a weird size. Shape maybe. Maybe it's a little too much like a crate, but it's really something else... I wonder if- "Hey! Ah, excuse me but... uh... what'sinthecrate?" 5.) "Did someone say they needed a hunter? A thing?" ... They're looking at me funny. What? I have good hearing! Please don't think I'm rude. Pleasedon'tthinkI'mrude. "I...er... I'm good at... hunting... and getting... things if... if you're hiring..."

Reading all of the ways people have come up with their names makes me in awe. So creative and... uh, well mine isn't as nearly thought out. Lain's tribal name is a tribute to Cu Chulainn because I love Irish mythology, awesome fighters (cough and polearm users) and the Fate series did not help settle this at all. Although Lain's personality is nothing like his name tribute counterpart. Venator is a call back for the brothers, as the name suits them perfectly and since it doesn't really fit in with FF naming conventions, we came up with a sensibly nonsensical way to keep it. The Miqo'te misfits stumbled upon an old word, butchered it to hell and thought it sounded cool so they stuck with it.

When I'm immersed in RP, I tend to write healthy paragraph responses and consider myself a competent individual. However, I love PvE aspects of Final Fantasy and will do crafting, dungeons and fun things outside of RP as well. ♥ Views on RP combat and injuries: Realistic with a fantasy flair. I'm all for conflict and will happily interact or go along with a scuffle or fight that may occur. I am not kind to my character(s) either, so they will get their bumps and bruises in a realistic fashion and can be hurt, messed with and bothered. The fantasy flair bit simply entails the magic in the world (although Lain cannot use it) and the fact he can jump perhaps with a bit more grace than what would be deemed “realistic” for our day and age. I simply ask that if your character intends to kill mine or harm in such a way that creates a disability or something severe such a limb loss, that there is ample communication between tells to make sure we're on the same page. ♦ Views on IC romance: Although not the utter center of my RP, Lain, while outwardly simple, has just as much ability as anyone else to get attached to others. Any affections he might develop come with no expectations or obligation to be reciprocated. Likewise the reverse is fine and open. ♣ Views on non-romance RP: Currently open. If you want to strike up a past history or relation, simply throw me a tell and we can work something out. If you want to strike up a friendship, even better. ♠ Views on lore: I try to follow the guidelines and established lore that the world sets for characters, although I'm no where close to knowing everything about it. Still, I'm fairly relaxed with how others want to RP and am open to ideas so long as they aren't entirely out of place or too far out there by my opinion. ♥ Views on chat functions: Say, Yell and Emotes are for IC unless noted by brackets. Example, (( Hello! )) Still, I avoid using brackets in those functions when possible. The Tell function is for IC and OOC, depending on what I'm doing at the time- if we're obviously Rping, then it is used for IC although again brackets can note otherwise. All other functions, such as Shouts are OOC to me. Linkshells, when I get around to nabbing one, are dependent on their creators. I'm relatively new myself, but nice seeing someone will be making a return! Also, real life happens and sometimes you gotta take a step back and take care of yourself and your surroundings. Pretty much what everyone here has said is what I agree with too. If anything, you'll find people incredibly happy or excited that someone approached their character in a public RP setting- especially if they're not currently interacting with anyone. A few people play characters that are more seclusive or hesitant to strike up a random conversation, so they need some more outgoing types to accidentally spill a mug of cider all over them! ... Not that I've done that before. -clears throat- Just to reiterate though, it definitely won't hurt to send a PM first. Also don't let any lack of profile information deter you from poking them either. I know I can't put "walk ups welcome" in my info because I'm bad at managing text and don't have room! It also might help if you're wondering if they're OOC or IC too, because I've had people mistake my 'goon gear as IC gear. Sadly, Lain isn't cool enough to be a swagoon ICly. Also, if you're struggling to figure out how to approach another character in a way that seems natural, you don't have to just walk up and say hello. Perhaps they literally accidentally bump into them or trip and fall on their shoes. You could have your character mistake the other for someone else whether that be a friend, an idol or that nasty pocket thief who stole your gil that you couldn't quite catch. TL;DR: Don't stress. A lot of people really want you to approach them. People are nice. If they're not, as was said, they're butts and the next person will be likely be receptive. I also talk too much. The end.

Greetings. I've already made two topics showing a little art and asking for connections for my character (and some awesome people have answered questions and said hello), but I thought I'd give an official "hallo" here! I'm sort of one of those individuals who likes to get as many ducks in a row as I can before diving in too... which is probably also the reason it took me forever to reach out to this awesome place. I did manage to get Lain's Wiki and a tumblr up, thanks to the suggestions from some great people already who recommended it. Phew. Alright. Here's some bits about me. I've RPed a lot in the past! Started off in forum RP, then progressed into a few chat-based clients, pen and paper campaigns (which has now turned into Skype campaigns due to moves,) and MMOs. Although admittedly, the only MMO I RPed on much was WoW although throughout trying out games such as Aion, GW2, etc... I made a point to try to place myself on the RP servers. Just something relaxing and fun about seeing people RP, even if you're not always apart of it. I myself purchased Final Fantasy XIV as it came out, but only was able to play for a month or so. I came back around... February I believe? Meh, date isn't important. I dived into PvE content and swore I'd reach out to public RP or community RP once I had a picture or enough information to make a real investment in my character. Luckily, I had a few friends that helped me figure Lain out and RPed with me a little even though they weren't major RPers. However, my procrastination is OVER. Which is good, because I've been missing some great RP. You can poke at the Wiki I almost died putting together to get some information on C'laihn if you want! He's affectionately earned me OOC nicknames such as Derpgoon and Swagoon (title activates with sunglasses only) from my FCers for our PvE adventures. Anywho, I knew about this place for awhile and lurked a bit like a creeper. I'm pretty sure I just googled "FFXIV" and it popped up somewhere. I have never made a character Wiki before, but I'm familiar with forums so I'm looking forward to a bit of new and old by joining in the fun. Uh... the tutorial guide told me to say something else about myself. I have a fluffy dog by my feet at the moment and the stupid tree outside keeps crapping leaves all over my car. -shakes fist-

Often when accompanying his older brother for “missions,” he's told to keep his mouth shut to make use of his intimidation factor only.
