1. Yea, the unfortunate part is that I had been hoping to be able to just play it as my casual-on-the-side MMO and spend all of my time just building up a house, raising livestock, etc. >_< The work-around isn't exactly appealing in that sense. I wish they'd change their minds about the housing restriction... The restriction does make some sense. Land is finite and will be gobbled up quickly. ^^
2. Sastra ~ Yeah, we've been pushing Trion to label an RP server, but they have been vehemently refusing despite the popular opinion that they really should give us a server. I think they're more than happy to overlook us, but we're still able to make our own fun I suppose! Naunet ~ Aye, and that's how it worked in Korea too. x.x On the plus side, you could always "rent," so to speak. If you'd like to play free but want to have a home of your own, you could ask a subscriber to make one and to add you to their family. They could set it to family access so you have essentially full rights to it, then you can mail them the tax money (in-game currency) they'd require to keep it afloat. They'd also have to help you with the furniture placement though, because only the homeowner can do that. Anyway, there are little ways around it~ So at least there's that!
3. Hello hello, Long time, no see! I'm Rakka'sae Kuhn, a former roleplayer from Balmung. I didn't get to meet a lot of you out there, but I wish I had! I've come back to tell you guys about a little site I've founded for another game out there that had my heart well before I started playing FFXIV, and that stole it back again when Alpha testing began for the West. This game is vastly different from FFXIV. If you haven't heard of it, I encourage you to check out www.archeagegame.com where you can find all the basic information about the game. It's pretty legit! I think that many will find it interesting. Plus, if it's your wallet you're worried about, you can play the game for free. You won't have access to a lot of the things that make it a unique game, but you'll still have access to just about everything you'd need to maintain a casual RP character. Now, that being said, I'm trying to help grow and improve my RP community site. We were the first RP community site out there, and reformed recently! The new site is much improved and, for those of you who really can't stand Enjin like I can't, it's thankfully not hosted on Enjin! The site is ArcheAgeRoleplay.com, and we have lore resources that no other site out there does--with promises to bring you even more. If ArcheAge has your interest, and you're thinking you'd like to RP there, please consider joining my site and helping us to improve. I'm also still on the lookout for moderators, so if that's something that you think might interest you, drop me a line on our forums! Anyway, thanks for making it all the way through this post. Hope to see you around!
4. B'awwwww. Hey wait. WHERE IS HIS SHIRT? I see where this was goooiiinnnggg.
5. I belieeeeeve! Also, in case anyone's interested... here's some animated sprite avatars I made back in my FFXI days on Allakhazam.
6. Drew Lyrielle 'n Sae 'cause I was bored and can't fall asleep. This is from an RP just the other night where Lyrielle scritched behind Sae's ears, and he got all half-lidded and happy because of it.
7. Yep. ^^ I can do sketchy maps too. Just for an example, I did this outline of part of a continent, free-hand, if people want maps that look less computery-processed and more, ya know... sketched.
8. There was some interest in Intermission when I mentioned that I also have started dabbling in map-making! For map making, I charge an hourly rate, and since maps are highly personal (most people use them for novels they're writing or various tabletop campaigns), I am more than willing to stream the creation process and take direction as I go! My rate is negotiable but I'm starting at $10/hr. Obviously if you want to tip more, that's always very welcome! I'll provide the streaming link and all of that. Here's an example of a map I created for my own probably-never-gonna-get-finished novel: Map Without Labels Map With Country Labels / Color Coded Zones Map Overlay (This is nooot artsy.)
9. I mained an anti-social broody-type character in Aion. It was a little difficult at first, but I acknowledged that I needed to do something OOCly to initiate some sort of interaction with other characters. I think a lot of people, regardless of the type of characters they play, aren't usually very willing to go up and start to talk to someone. So, I have some advice for anti-social types: Manipulate your environment to force your character to react, if nothing else is going on. Glower at people. Be in the way of people so they bump you when they pass. Put yourself somewhere that people are going to not have to go terribly out of their way to acknowledge you--don't stuff yourself in a corner.
10. Journals are highly personal. If your character isn't the sort to sit down and write out their life experiences, you're still okay to make a journal. Anything your character writes, essentially, can be considered a journal. So, say for instance you're a researchy type, and you decide to start taking little notes here and there. You can post them here as a little bit of insight to your character. Day One, Nothing yet. Will wait a little longer. Disappointed. They don't even have to be particularly well written. Hell, if my character wrote a journal, it would probably look like this: I DONOT NO WHY I CANOT FIND THE LETHER STRIPP I WAS LOKING FOR TODAY BECOS A ORDOR CAME TO ME TO MAKE GLOVS FOR A MAN BUT I CANOT MAKE THE TO GLOVS WITH OUT THE STRIPPS I DONOT NO WHAT TO DO . THE DEDLIN IS COMING UP AND I FEL SO NERVIS I HAV TO MABE BY SOM FROM ANUTHER LETHER PERSIN . Course, typically, a literate character will just go on ahead and write out a nice detailed recollection of what happened to them recently. It's a good way to track your character's experiences, and to develop your character further in the process by analyzing their private thoughts and reactions to certain events. To start one here, literally just go to the appropriate forum and open up a thread of your own, then start typing. Nothin' to it!
11. While I agree the prices are a little too high, I don't think it's totally unachievable. If an FC bands together and saves concertedly for an FC house, I think it can be done. It just requires more than "a few" people doing their best to grind coin and donate it to their FC. This is actually somewhat similar to Aion's housing dilemma. While they didn't have legion housing, personal housing prices on the higher end were pretty outrageous. My RP legion spent months in advance (3 or so) doing nothing but grinding for money. It wasn't terribly fun, but it was rewarding in the end. I really pulled my own weight by eventually donating something like 600 million Kinah to my legion, combined with all the other donations to make about 1.5 billion. This was when having over 100 million Kinah personally was exceptionally rare and pretty much reserved only for the super hardcore players. I do think it shouldn't be easy, and I'm kind of relieved that no one seems to have the coin saved up already to afford it. It's something you need to work for, together, cooperatively, to afford... and people need to be selfless. If your FC's desires are in line with your own, it shouldn't be hard to coordinate. One thing I'd recommend is incentivizing donations. For instance, if you are or you know an artist, and someone donates 50k Gil, make/buy them a little doodle. If they do 100k, make/buy them a sketch. If they donate 250k, get them some nicer art. If they donate 500k, professional art. 1 million? Well, you get the idea. Really anything you have that can incentivize donations... use it. I think it does fall on a FC leader to organize this sort of thing and ensure that FC goals are in line with the wants and needs of the individual members of the FC. Obviously you don't want to require a fee, but you do want to do something so you're not all on your lonesome for saving up. It will take work. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing. I'd actually be a little concerned if RP FCs, which in general are a little lighter in numbers and active gameplay, could already afford FC housing.
12. If you need yourself a three dimensional "villain" for plot-things, I have an enigmatic, reclusive, rude, misanthropic Duskwight who may or may not be a loan shark with a violent edge.
13. [♪] Unemployed Sae Draws for Food [♪] As you can tell by the title, I am Sae, and I am currently unemployed. This means that I have no income coming in presently, and I also have oodles of freetime, which consequentially means that I can draw things for you with a very short waiting period, as long as you throw money at me so I can keep paying to be alive and/or play video games. My art style varies, as you'll see by looking at my samples. I am not the speediest or most skilled artist, but I can produce some quality work when I put in the required effort, which I of course will always do for paying customers. I've never done commissions before, but I do draw for myself and occasionally for people who I think are awesome. I'm not great at poses, but I can mimic reference pictures with relative ease. I have no limits as to what you want me to draw, so if you're looking for smut, go right on ahead and commission me for that. Anyway, without further adieu, I'll introduce my pricing structure, and then clutter the thread with examples. Pricing Structure Payments to be made via PayPal in full before completion of art. All prices are USD. Tips are welcome. Prices may change at a later date depending on how complex this turns out to be. Sprite, Final Fantasy 1 Style - Colored, Pixels: $5 Sprite, RPGM2k Style - Colored, Pixels: $10 Chibi Face Only - Sketch: $2 Chibi Full Body - Sketch: $5 Chibi Face Only - Colored: $8 Chibi Full Body - Colored: $10 Chibi Face Only - Vectored & Colored: $15 Chibi Full Body - Vectored & Colored: $20 * Chibis come in two styles: "Traditional Chibi" and "Hollow Eye Chibi." See examples for more info. Normal Bust - Sketch: $10 Normal Full Body - Sketch: $15 Normal Bust - Colored: $20 Normal Full Body - Colored: $35 Normal Bust - Vectored & Colored: $45 Normal Full Body - Vectored & Colored: $60 Prices are per subject. If there are extra characters or multiple poses for the same character, multiply the price by the total number of subjects present. For example, 5 people in a "Normal Bust - Colored" style will be $100. $20 x 5 = $100. Examples
14. Just in case there's any confusion after posting such a nice IC introduction, I'll just go ahead and state here that my response is completely OOC. :3 Hello and welcome! Good to see another XI roleplayer join the ranks. I'm glad that you were able to finally get access to XIV, though it sucks that you weren't able to fully take advantage of your trial period. Still, at least you can play now, so welcome! If you're on Balmung, feel free to hit me (Rakka'sae Kuhn) or Xenedra Ambreaus or whoever else up for an invite to the "Intermission" OOC RP-hub Linkshell. It's a good place to network in-game-- a-as long as you actually use it. There are loads of other Linkshells and Free Companies out there too, and there's a nice li'l thread here somewhere with a big fat list of 'em. I'm sure your thread will get linkspam soon. I for one am entirely too lazy for that. So! Whereabouts did you RP in XI? Server and such? Personally, I was on Lakshmi as a part of the CantaPerMe linkshell. :3

16. There's an RP Free Company on Balmung called Sentinel's Ark (S-Ark) as well.
