other servers Massive gamble! Roegadame on Phoenix looking for RP!
savail replied to BattleMedic's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm open for it. I'm still new to it and will likely make mistakes, but I play a Qestir Au Ra. Her profile is in my signature. I know my spouse found an RP linkshell that he joined even though he's not currently RPing yet. I posted the name in one of the threads about Balmung locking for someone else who was interested. I haven't joined it myself because I'm a bit shy about joining up with stuff without getting an invite first. Anyway, if you don't mind a complete newbie who's learning the ropes, I'd be up for it. I believe most of the FC that I'm currently in (Debauchery / Vice) is also RP-friendly with several having previous RP experience in other games. I recently moved from Bal to Phoenix to play with them because most of them are European and Bal was locked for all of them, so I don't really have many or any connections yet. I'm a bit shy at that kind of thing, eheh... -
discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
savail replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
That's what I was expecting, too. Honestly, though, it's not too bad. Like I said, the biggest problem is the lack of people playing 24/7 like on the Aether data center. Also, there are not a lot of idling loafers, which is sad. I love eavesdropping on the idlers on Bal. -

I would try not using WTFast for a bit. One of the main issues with the old location was the old level3 routing behind the ISP's. We are using a different backend connection now so it is worth giving it a shot. For instance the new location is another 1500miles from me but it has 10 less hops to get there. It's not gonna be a fix for all but it is a fix for lots. I believe you may have misunderstood. I don't use WTFast at all. I am in Texas. My ping was 42 and is now around 57--not even enough to notice. The numbers I listed were her and my pings to the EU servers. I posted them mainly to encourage some of the NA players that playing on the EU servers is still worth looking into, especially if they're on reversed schedules like I am. -

As an NA player (Texas) who has been dicking around some with an alt on Phoenix, other than a slight adjustment period, the ping wasn't really a big deal. However, one of my good friends (PR) said that her ping jumped enough that her main class (MNK) wasn't too viable over there. I know my spouse and I sit around 110 or so. She gets 228ms - 286ms; however, she also uses WTFast, so I'm not sure if that's before or after factoring that in. Even with that handicap, she's still a monster to reckon with, hehe. I think, arguably, the biggest problem I run into is that I've become so spoiled by the queue times on the Aether datacenter. Since there's such a large NA/EU population there, the queues are nice every time of the day. Contrast that with Phoenix, where a few weeks ago, my spouse and I did a healer/tank queue during their off-hours and were stuck waiting for 20 or 30 minutes before giving up...and that was low level roulette. Luckily, their FC is a decent size and covers a variety of classes. Anyway, I'd be casting my vote for one of the new EU servers when they are released. The leveling boost will be great for both new players and those wanting to catch up alts or alt classes. It also will make it easier to get some housing. -
Do you know what the name of the Linkshell is? I've been checking around on Phoenix and haven't seen anything really. Phoenix is a great server, busy but not to busy. I know the people in charge have another LS listed here, but don't know if that one is active. Looked it up on the Lodestone, and this is it: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/linkshell/15762598695872350/

My spouse has been playing with some friends on Phoenix. Been contemplating transferring off Bal to join them (I made an alt over there, but I'm struggling getting both ready for Stormblood given I've been slacking with HW). Apparently, there's a decent-sized linkshell for RP over there that he got an invite to. My go-to test of throwing snowballs with and without /motion didn't elicit any reactions or impromptu snowball fights, though, sadly. Maybe I just had bad luck, but I don't know. However, I have three remaining characters I can just as easily go to whenever I want to dick around on Bal. Anyway, if I do, there will be an apartment spot in Mist opening up soon. I'd want to move before Stormblood to avoid all the congestion problems...Just trying to work out the financial aspect of it since I'd need to move my Phoenix character of the same name off before I moved this one over there, and that's $36 right there. :dazed:

Miiyn abhors being damaged or hurt. She is absolutely terrible at close-range combat due to this. Luckily, she's great at healing and a pretty good shot with a bow. However, despite the fact that she does have some surprising aptitude with knife-play due to her slight frame and nimble fingers (thanks to her proficiency with weaving and alchemy), she usually avoids it due to the whole being-up-close-and-personal-with-the-enemy thing. She makes an ABYSMAL tank because she cannot keep an enemy's attention on her even to save her life.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for your character-Just for Fun
savail replied to Lady Whiteraven's topic in Fun Prompts
I took it before as Miiyn from another site and actually got the same result: Meyers Briggs Personality Type: INTP Introvert(34%) iNtuitive(22%) Thinking(66%) Perceiving(16%) This time from this site: INTP - A Introvert(67%) Intuitive(59%) Thinking (64%) Prospecting(64%) Assertive (59%) Some of the percentages changed though, I think because some of the questions were a little too modern-oriented compared to the version I originally used, so I wasn't really sure how to answer for those. -
I don't know if anyone would actively get mad-mad at you, but if you're worried about it, you can always do what I did and roll a Qestir since I have no idea how to do any of the RPing stuff at all. If you're not talking and only doing emotes or custom /em, you're being lore-friendly without having to stress over whether you're doing it right. Bonus that no one in the RP areas is going to really question you lurking around and spectating because they know you're not supposed to talk anyway!

Incredibly Detailed Character Planning Sheet

The only cutscene I can remember was I think from 1.0, and that boat is bigger than the ferry I was thinking of but much smaller than the actual sailing vessels Limsa uses. That's why I struck it out above because the ferry I was thinking of that we do see docked at the pier by Fisherman's Bottom actually just does Limsa<->Costa del Sol and Limsa<->Mist. But if Limsa connects to Lower La Noscea and Middle La Noscea by bridges, then isn't Limsa on the west or south side of La Noscea (not good at geography and maps). If that's the case, then wouldn't Eastern La Noscea, or more specifically, Bloodshore, require sailing around La Noscea to get there. And that ferry actually is tiny. Hell of a journey for one itty bitty boat, no? We are so far off-topic now from sahagin culture, but I don't even care because BOATS! On-topic, however: I just discovered that many of the names of the Sahagin that we do have (which are all males that I've found so far) are actually recycled from FFXI, so I'm going to expand my digging into that territory as well to see if it turns up anything. Edit #2: Didn't turn up anything, so I decided to take what appeared to be common in the male Sahagin naming conventions and plug that into Rinkworks using this formula: (b|d|h|m|n|p|s)(((a|e|o|u)(gg|hh|ll|nn|rr|uu|vv|ww))|(y)(uu)) Getting lots of names that sound similar...now just looking for the "right" one. Edit #3: One of the results that I got that I liked was "Senn," which ended up matching closely to one of the actual Xaela names--Tsenxer. So, yeah. Tsenxer Ejinn, aka Senn Shorewalker.

This is true as well, but there are people in our own real world who do make swims like that across ocean straits. I just went to check, and you're right: we don't actually see the Vesper Bay ferry. However, we do see the boat we board from Limsa to go to Vesper, which raises more questions now, though unrelated to swimming Au Ra and more with practicality in naval traffic. Like I said, I'm not good with geography, but isn't Limsa on the opposite site of La Noscea from Vesper Bay? In fact, isn't Costa del Sol actually closer to Thanalan? Why on earth would we get on a teeny tiny little dinghy to travel amongst many larger ships through literal open ocean water? :dazed: Nevermind. The boat we see is the one to Mist and Costa del Sol. Though that still begs the previous question: Why on earth would we get on a teeny tiny little dinghy to travel amongst many larger ships through literal open ocean water? :dazed:

Geography is not my strong suit, but I thought it was a pretty narrow strait between Vylbrand and Aldenard? I mean, those ferries that go between Vesper Bay and Limsa definitely aren't built for crossing any major seas. Either way, was more basing that on this bit of lore: "A river tribe that chooses to swim from place to place rather than walk or take boats. It is said that members of the Ejinn can hold their breaths for up to a quarter bell, and will often migrate while almost completely submerged in order to avoid contact with hostile tribes."

Well, I mean, obviously MSQ can't be canon for everyone, I get that; so none of the MSQ stuff happens-happens, but the way I've been playing Miiyn (except for a few circumstances here and there in dungeons) is by reacting to every situation as Miiyn, whether it's people RPing or not (which has been really fun by the way, especially trying to explain dungeon mechanics with marks and emotes :dazed: ). Also serves as a really good reminder of just how frustrating it would be for her to express what's going on in her head without using words. I also made Miiyn start in Ul'dah specifically because I wanted her to develop a blanket distrust of Lalafell (everybody needs a flaw!) as a whole right off the bat, and the MSQ, while obvs not canon, was helpful in building up the types of things that she'd see going on in Ul'dah to help get into that mindset. Since I tend to be pretty (read: extremely) slow with story progression, I'd like to at least, y'know, have some sort of reason as to why she's trudging about Limsa since I can't just skip over to Gridania, Mor Dhona, Coerthas or Ul'Dah right away like I could if I started in the other zones (well, unless an Ul'Dah or Gridania-based FC doesn't mind me joining just to get to the big Aetheryte in one of those areas ;)). Because technically speaking, she should right now be able to just ferry/swim over to the mainland. But she isn't doing that, and...well, I'd like to come up with a reason why. Plus, she's going to have to have a reason to start studying along the Arcanist path eventually if she goes into Scholar (which, let's face it...that's my main class, she will). Actually nevermind, solved that conundrum while typing! That family heirloom stone was lost/taken, and she's looking for it--legally via the arcanists, less legally via the rogues. If anyone has any insights to 1-3, 5 and 7, I'd appreciate it! Edit: Did some more digging and finally found the mention I thought I recalled of female sahagin...However, no mention of a naming convention beyond the "Indigo Matriarch."

Couldn't get past the hyur/elezen thing for Maddie, which completely killed any interest I had in playing as her. I've always had an interest in the different beast tribes of Eorzea, as well as their treatment by the "civilized" groups. Ended up lore-binging the other day and had a weird dream about an Au Ra of the Ejinn tribe (though in my dream, she didn't know the name of it because I guess I couldn't remember it) that was raised by Sahagin after a botched migration. Completely forgot about it until Miiyn unlocked her Sahagin beast tribe quests, and I found the idea interesting. Like Maddie, this is more or less just character building right now to see if it even works, but finding lore on the Sahagin has proved pretty difficult. Any input would be awesome, but some specific questions are: 1) Are beast tribes even found in Othard? 2) Names seem to follow a pretty consistent pattern of four-letter words with the last two characters being the same (Denn, Novv, Pyuu, Pahh, Houu, Fyuu, Seww, Zugg). Anything else of note? 3) All named Sahagin thus far that I can find, remember or otherwise look up online have been male. Are there any females; and if so, are their naming conventions different? 4) Since the Miqo'te sometimes have a slight hiss, would a Miqo'te speaking with some Sahagin inflection be easier to disguise than an Au Ra? 5) Aaaand an odd one: personal grooming standards? I'm guessing it probably didn't become an issue until being around non-Sahagin, so maybe picking out her own style of clothing which could be a bit...eccentric? If nothing else, I'm guessing she would pick things that would be pretty simple and stream-lined for easier mobility in the water. 6) Starting class: I know this should technically probably be lancer, but I'd rather her start in Limsa for obvious reasons. Judging by how suspicious everyone is, I doubt she'd fit in with the marauders because of the Yellow Jackets until after she has started building a reputation (companion of Baderon's grandma's niece's sister or whateveritwashesaid notwithstanding), which would have made the second-most sense after lancer. I feel like the rogues would be more than happy to take her on, but obviously she can't start there; and she can't start as a gathering class like 1.0 characters could, so fisher is out. Which leaves arcanist...but I'm at a lost as to how on earth THAT could be spun (SCH, on the other hand, is easy if I go with Au Ra; scholar stone found while swimming/diving anywhere between Othard and Eorzea). I mean, she wouldn't be able to read AND she wouldn't have had ready access to books to learn. 7) Family name: Other than "finless one" and "shorewalker," were there any other nicknames given to us landlubbers by our fishie friends? I'm leaning towards Shorewalker as a surname, though that might cause some confusion as it could be construed as a Raen name if I go Au Ra. Does this seem like a possible issue? Theoretically I guess she could go as Ejinn if Auri, mayhaps, but not sure how she would know that surname (unless it was etched on said sch stone and was some sort of family heirloom/necklace/whatever...but even then, not knowing how to read? I guess that could be some sort of plotline for her at least). Should I name-name her as Shorewalker, but have her ICly introduce herself as Ejinn to strangers? So yes, leaning towards either a Miqo'te taken in by Sahagin in Lower La Noscea after a raid by other Sahagin/pirates/Drowned or dream-head-canon of an Au Ra from Othard from the Ejinn tribe that just ended up misplaced during a routine migration or raid by some other tribe due to her (then) young age that came to Eorzea with her clutchmates. Danke in advance!

Mikelae's FC Room (Ultros) Technically, Miiyn's should probably be different, but I really enjoyed certain aspects of the design that I am planning to reincorporate, such as the semi-phase-through screens to serve as doors. Definitely shaking the layout up a bit, though and will post pictures when it's done, but Miki's should give a pretty good idea of what I'm shooting for. Edit: So I was goofing around and buying a couple of book piles and stacks...I commented out loud that I had no idea what in the Seven Hells Miiyn needed all these damned books for because she's still learning to read. My husband postulated that she simply didn't have an understanding of just how long it would take to read a book. This is now canon, and I now need to acquire so many more piles of books.

I'm going to be woken up stupid early (1200) on the 26th when I have my last officially scheduled night of work tonight (2200 to 0600) and while I'm awake I'm going to write down a list of numbers that I like and don't like (because legit OCD) so that my super amazing husband can use those to try to get me an apartment once maint is over that won't have me cringing every time I use it. Have I mentioned how awesome and amazing my husband is? Because yeah. And then I'll try to stay awake long enough to check out my new apartment and do some Yo-kai hunting so I can get that bloody achievement. Still trying to decided on Lavender Beds or Mist...The Lavender Beds looks prettier...but the Mist one is close to where our FC house is on Ultros, which means it'll be even super closer to the beach for Miiyn here on Bal!

It's actually Miki and not Miiyn, but eh:

Wow, this has all been great information to read. Even outside of a character perspective, learning more about the lore is always fun (I like to lurk the official forums with the naming info sometimes just to read all the neat information people dig up from time-to-time). I notice no one really touched on the Elezen-using-a-Lalafell model; any chance of feedback specific to that? The Au Ra info is about what I suspected, not really surprised there. It was pretty nice to see that there are precedents for other races in Ishgard, though I'm hesitant with the lack of any identified higher class of races other than Hyur and Elezen, especially because I don't think the Roe examples are quite what I'm looking for. I didn't get the impression that those guards were very well off the last time I went through MSQ.

Really? From reading lore posts, I got the impression that the nobility were Elezen and that the guards and knights were predominantly Elezen with a scattering of Hyur. Does this still hold in 2.0? I can't recall seeing anything other than those two races in the areas of Coerthas pre-Heavensward. Although I've had access to Ishgard for awhile on my main on Ultros, I never bothered to enter the city proper (was catching up on gear at the time), so I'm not sure what differences there are inside (other than that there are a pair of adorable Miqo'te kittens, of course!). I thought I remembered hearing something along those lines. Pretty sure even considering adopting an Au Ra would have been grounds for a visit from the Inquisitors. Those blokes don't mess around. :dodgy:

So her name is Madeleine "Maddie" Chastain. She's originally from the village beyond the ice wall (Falcon's Nest?) but was separated from her family during all the confusion. Said family wasn't common-born, but they weren't nobility either, just high enough that mingling with commoners was a no-no for her and her siblings. Her father was a knight in the war effort; her mother was a chirurgeon. Given how mischievous and innocent she seems to be (she's certain, probably incorrectly, that other members of her family survived), I'd bet cookies to donuts that she's got to be either relatively young or somehow sheltered post-separation. So here's the problem...what would be her age and race? If I remember MSQ right, Falcon's Nest was cut off during or around the time of the Calamity. In order to be well-off as an Ishgardian, she most likely has to be Elezen with a possibility of Hyur (could explain the father's drive and strict denouncement of outsiders/heretics/etc...not wanting to accidentally lose their "status"). Because of her family history, she's positioned to be well-educated with a wide variety of learned skills (albeit nothing specialized due to the young age she was separated), so she could also theoretically swing as an Elezen child of 12-14 years (a la Lalafell character model similar to the "12 summers" girl in Gridania) masquerading as an adult Lalafell to get by. Now, if there was a convincing way to have a Miqo'te or Au Ra in that situation...from a model standpoint, I'd find that preferable, but I don't think the lore really fits outside of "adopted." Buuuut I also have doubts that Ishgard would be open to adopting outsider children...even a "curiosity" like an Au Ra. :frustrated: The Elezen are just too tall, and the Midlander run cycle is just kinda derpy. I'm figuring I'll roll her as a Midlander for now, but I'm pretty sure I'll get annoyed at that dratted run cycle before too much time goes by...though maybe it will fit a sheltered Ishgardian? Edit: Oh gods, I just realized that the character I renamed and Fantasia'd for this has a grand total of 0 gil, practically no clothing other than the veteran's rewards (finagled a cute outfit out of it though) and some low-grade leather-working equipment and no weapons or items other than a leather-working tool. I suppose she could join the marauder's guild for an axe, but where's the fun in that!

I don't know if Xia would actually do RP, but even if she doesn't, she's been one of the most constant presences in Miiyn's life. I did it more for curiosity, but I couldn't resist the prompt that came up: "Xiaochi as a superhero and Miiynmekh as the sidekick." Miiynmekh glared at the book in front of her. Arcanism would be far easier if it only involved math and not reading. She wished K'lyhia were around to read the material aloud to her. Then she'd be able to actually progress onto the practical aspects of these new strategms. It didn't help that the room she was sharing with Xiaochi was in an inn so old and rickety that she could hear other guests' bowel disturbances from down the stairs and across the building. Speaking of downstairs, she could hear the rapid sound of footsteps coming UP the stairs and down the hallway towards their room. Surely the Miqo'te wasn't back already...Miiyn had yet to make any real progress with her materials. The door to the room flashed open with a bang that Miiyn was certain could be heard even over the raucous din in the tavern two stories down. "MII, MII, I HAD THE MOST BEST SUPER AWESOMEST BEST IDEA!" Miiyn sighed. No doubt, Xia had come up with yet another outrageous scheme to press-gang her into monk training. First it was squirrels that could "only" be hurt by punching...what would it be now? "We're gonna be SUPERHEROES!" Of course. Superheroes. What in the Seven Hells even WAS a superhero? A hero that was extra talented? "This will be super fun, Mii! You get to be my monk-trainee-superhero-sidekick, and we'll go stop evil-doers EVERYWHERE!" In a show of pointed disinterest, Miiyn turned back to her book. "Oh c'mon c'mon c'mon, pleeeeeeease" Xia pleaded. Miiyn turned to face her again, trying to make her face as clearly annoyed and irritated as she could. "We could go make more gobbie firebooms in the Garlean stronghold? HA! I see that smile! I knew you'd be up for that. SUPERMONKHERO XIA AND SIDEKICK MII AWAAAAAAY!"
-
Poor Miiyn has no room yet, unless you count the inns, but I am (inordinately) proud of Mikelae's room on Ultros.

Welp, let's get the obvious quirk out of the way first. 1. Doesn't speak (kind of a given since she's a Qestir). 2. Hates yarzons of all varieties and sizes. The only good yarzon is a dead yarzon. 3. Not a fan of Lalafells; she thinks they're (mostly) all crooked, scheming, diabolical little monsters. She's not outright rude, per se, but more indifferent. Even if she likes one, she'll probably not trust them much. 4. While she may seem highly keen on fashion, she doesn't actually care overly much for it, and only pays attention to fashion trends in order to blend in better with the Eorzeans.
