Domos expressed interest in me being their mentor, if there is anyone else who wants mentored, hit me up. We can talk!
-
Welcome. Good ole IRC RP. I remember those days.
-
I'm Elisea Renyven, I was around a bit during v1.0 and am returning to the game soon. To give a little background about me, I've been a heavy-hardcore roleplayer for about 18 years, and tend to write alot. I'm a story driven individual that likes to see characters grow and change based on the choices they make. I'm very much interested in taking on someone who wants to be mentored, I can take multiple folks if need be. I'm very much willing to trade character ideas, concept and do what I can to help. In addition, I plan to work on some easy level tips/guides based on the experience I've seen in Beta Phase 3 which I am certain will carry over to launch. What I can offer for the most part: Friendly nature Experienced roleplayer Guides or assistance for questions Someone to keep folks company Idea swapping for roleplaying Dungeon/Raid Leader for many years If your interested, hit me up!

Rping on Gilgamesh? Please give this a read
Elisea Renyven replied to Gideon Aryeh's topic in RP Discussion
Not an FC but a Linkshell. I'm not even thinking about FC's yet, but there should be some sort of chat channel thing to connect everyone. Good PR and exposure will definitely help you folks out. Also soon as you guys can begin brainstorming, you should try to set up maybe 3-4 events minimum over a 2 week time or however long P4 is to ensure everyone knows you guys are there to stay. I just wanna see both servers be successful. -

Just gonna come in and toss another idea to help you guys out. Ignore the FC recruiting for a moment, and during P4 besides on working on getting your names etc. I think you should all do some type of meet and greet, and give the server some RP exposure. Just interact with each other in something casual until you all have stuff truly established, keep your interest going that way. -
I've been offering insight, ideas and support because both sides was going to happen. This isn't a war, this isn't meant to be a drama epicenter. Its just two different folks with similar ideas, values, and of course -- the hard sweat of building something up has turned into becoming opposing forces for some weird reason. If this was suppose to be a competition or epeenery contest, the Gilg or whatever server folks coulda started another forum and left a massive division. However, the intentions of those on Gilgamesh have never been at all hostile. They want to grow and survive just like Balmung. However, I have noticed the tense hostility myself and I think its silly. No one likes ooc drama, save that for in character. Take it for what its worth from someone whose seen countless rise and falls of Rp communities over ... dare I say silliness. With that, I'm going to continue my support for both and help Rock with ideas, while I continue to play on Balmung with my folks, unless things change with servers. Can you imagine the :dazed: if SE decides in a month to name an RP Server? So let's not all lose ourselves over this. People just want to RP, feel wanted, and to have good memories. THERE IS NOTHING wrong with that. I've seen folks already decide not to RP if there was alot of drama and that's not what -either- side wants I hope. This is not to drive people away, God knows I've seen that happen MANY times over the years. So let's not do it here

Rping on Gilgamesh? Please give this a read

That is a very good initial start Rock, I might also suggest maybe an IC Linkshell for RP when not around physically. It can help for those that want a little rp fix while leveling. -
Rping on Gilgamesh? Please give this a read
Elisea Renyven replied to Gideon Aryeh's topic in RP Discussion
Glad to already see folks are putting work into Gilgamesh. I know it'll go well. -
So I decided to do my long awaited introduction as I've been tied up in a variety of projects lately. First of all, not sure if Ryaadi will be the name I use in game yet necessarily. So for now, I'll just go by Ry or whatever to make it simple. I've been roleplaying online for nearly 18 years, taking intermediate breaks but 99% of it has been online since the old days of AOL and Prodigy. I also like to write for fun, but never went full serious into trying to get anything published. I should try though! I've been a gamer since a kid, while also recently finishing college and actively working to get a career. Job market's tough yanno! Anyway, I've done numerous things over the years regarding roleplaying and running events. I have a strong philosophy of let the players direct the story and let's see character development. I'm story-driven to the extent that I like to DM at times, let players run with the story and see -exactly- what they do with it or what the outcome may be through their actions. I also have been a raider in WoW, Rift and a few other games. My first MMO was Ultima Online and I miss the good ole age of unity against the pks in that game. So with that in mind, I also do focus on enjoying the content of an MMO through OOC or IC means. So what does this mean? Well, I'm versatile in that regard, while I classify myself as a heavy roleplayer... I am not in character 24/7. I also enjoy the social aspect, getting to know folks and building bridges. I've met many good friends over the years, people I know and trust like I would a brother or sister. In addition, I was also a version 1.0 FF14 player, I got decently far back in the day once chaining got released, good ole dire mites and dinosaurs! Anyway, with that said - there is about 10 of us coming over plus some, half roleplayers/raiders and the other half raiders. I'm part of a two year old, small game community that likes to focus on having fun, and being a family. Definitely, not interested in having 20000+ members . I know that's what sometimes people think about with game communities. I see it as a group of people who enjoy each other's time, and always wanting to find more like minded folks to hang out with. We're finishing up the roleplaying section and eventually we'll get that information posted in the linkshell section. I'm looking forward to doing some dungeons, roleplay events and beyond on Balmung. If the servers get too full, we'll hit Gilgamesh but for now Balmung it is, although I do miss Besaid for the record! Even though it was merged! Oh boy, didn't mean to be long winded. Anyway, if anyone wants to dialogue about RP characters, more about me, or anything -- happy to answer. Otherwise, we'll see you in game or on the forums. P.S. I didn't proofread this, so there may be some typos or off words. Apologies ahead of time.

Folks are familiar with it from the events and where people went to mess around. Thing is Niklaus, no one will ever agree on one secondary server. Sadly, you will see probably 3 RP communities sprout up by the time its said and done, unless SE does a sudden turn about and even then, you will still have a mess. Everyone's frustrated, tired of the subject, I know from my viewpoint I went to Gilgamesh to check it out. If Balmung gets locked or full, then it's where a bunch of us will go. In the end, 2 months left and we may see more information that affects everyone. Till then, I guess its Gilga, Behemoth, Balmung and whatever EU folks decide.
-
Wasn't it a name change too etc?
-
I can't speak for the others, but I know for me that it's a matter of familiarity at this point... We chose that server as our beta backup, we have a history with it now... Not to mention that, through playing on that server, I've already made quite a few friends through the last few months of beta testing. I've grown attached to it now. I'll still hop over to Balmung at launch, sure, but this gives me that much more reason to visit those chosen few friends over on G-mesh... Plus, I think we're all capable of being the bigger people here. I think we can ignore a few trolls. I've been rping in mmos since EQ1 I have an extensive collection of troll heads on my mantle. I look forward to rping on Gilgamesh. I wish all the servers starting their own thing the best of luck, I hope it prospers. Just glad honestly that one thing is over with for now, I just hope SE doesn't decide to troll us with like 2 RP preferred servers... otherwise :frustrated:

I trapped them in my pokeball to use them for later. Just kidding. Way I look at it, first time through will probably not be done via roleplaying because its a matter of learning the fights, understanding the mechanics and what needs to be done. After that, you can easily in my opinion be able to roleplay fighting a giant creature. However, I wouldn't use any 'unique' name or anything that's been given. I'd just consider defeating a twisted version of a creature if that makes sense. The moment you start saying I killed Bahamut, I think then you have a -massive- clash with everyone else whose done it. Too much of a headache imo but bosses can be great RP tools.
-
I doubt it, they got enough on their plate as is - I think naming a server the RP one isn't really what they intend to do, especially since sometimes it can be a good or bad thing. We'll see though but by P4, its decision time.

I understand the reasoning behind closing off registration, but at the same time I think it was somewhat of a foul move, since I don't recall there being any warning that registration would be suspended. Doing that basically makes this an in house RPC only vote which doesn't take into account anyone else in the "RP community" that this actually supposed to be creating. I'm pretty sure anyone could have told you that Gilgamesh was the RPC favorite going into this, but outside of RPC, on the Beta forums where the rest of the community lies, Gilgamesh wasn't nearly as popular. Not being able to register has effectively cut off all but two members of my Free Company from voting. That's 20 something votes. If there was warning of some sort issued, than I retract this statement as it would simply have been my inattentiveness at work and my inability to tell my FC members to register early to ensure their vote. If there wasn't any warning, though, then I have to cry foul. If the intended community was purposely supposed to represent the RPC and not any of the members that work outside of it, then have at it. If your intent was to reach ALL RPers though, and not just members of the club, then I think you went about this wrong. Well said. For such an important poll that would be in the interest of more than just the RPC RPers, to basically deny them the right to have their say damages the legitimacy of this whole endeavor. Since the poll is regarding this RPC's support of another server only those who actually use the RPc should be worried about it. I think at this point, its you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. No one is going to please everybody, it's too difficult and too stressful imo. Everyone should just relax, and step back and understand both sides and position. No one has it easy here, no one. And far as I'm concerned, until I have A LOT more information to go with, I'm riding out the storm. I do have alot of events and storylines in my mind, on top of doing raiding, PVE and setting up to prepare all new folks some help as need be, while still learning everything myself. That's what I'm looking forward to on Balmung or wherever. So relax, think of Rydia or Balthier or... I dunno this guy :tonberry:

Lol, that's the spirit but I have a trump card. *dangles cat nip menacingly*

Just as a note, even the non-legacy servers will have people with characters built up from Phase 4 and the pre-order early access. I understand the sentiment, but just a cautionary note that new servers have unstable economies (not that thats always a bad thing) as well as rocky server populations. I myself have used this to my advantage in the past on EQ and WoW, but gaming the economy is not my thing anymore. I myself will have a Balmung and then one on what ever server my non-RP friends decide to roll on as well. Either way, best of luck in Eorzea That my friend is a beautiful point as well. And if anyone is really freaking out about 'economy' and housing. 1) Alot of new people -- Say for example some of my folks on Balmung, we will be all starting from scratch, working together as a 'team' to ascertain numerous goals, including getting crafting set up for folks. So as far as I'm concerned, new or old server - we're still doing the exact same thing and welcoming new folks and forging friendships. 2) Housing is going to be so expensive, NO -one-- will afford the best right off the bat and even then, it is months and months away. 3) Economy will balance itself, you know how I used to balance the market? Reasonable prices in massive bulk, which in turn brought prices in an in game economy more realistic. I did it in WoW, it was hard but hey it can happen.

I've been seeing both arguments, waiting to see where the chips fall. I think the big problem is fear. It's strong, folks don't want to be abandoned or shunned for going to a different server at the same time, there is fear of new people on an old server. Either way, I think there is so much limited information I think its got everyone frustrated. I don't think anyone should be hostile to each other, if that goes on, then what's the real point of a community? I think the whole situation is extremely frustrating for everyone to be honest. How we deal with it is another.
-
I think everyone is under ALOT of pressure. That's why you might feel that way. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done. I'm fearing with the voting, people took the B3 Events as Gilgamesh having RP. Which might be something to really review. Also with limited information, that leads to decisions that can hurt, shape, or create problems. I understand why wanting the July 1st deadline, but I'm still waiting to see some criteria that will sway my decision for or against staying on Balmung. Which, does not accurately depict a vote for me, hence no voting. First, SE may or may not do an RP dedicated server. Doubtful but they might. As someone that has to stay responsible for my crew and future members, I have a policy of no member left behind so if the server is full, then so be it. We figure where else to go. I also do not know any other servers and their quality, which I don't think Rpers want to be on a server that holds disdain, or there might be a plethora of griefing. I heard reddit will be on Gilgamesh, whether its true or not, that will make folks have a harder time. It can be as bad as a 4chan group.
-
What about the folks or groups that are for Balmung up until the point the server is too full or folks can't get over there? Especially with it still being a crowded status, its hard to say what may or may not happen in 2 months with Balmung.
-
That's what I wondered, considering when I logged on Beta last week my char was on Balmung from Besaid. So I am guessing I don't have to do anything.
-
At this point, the community looks like it's going split in some capacity no matter what anyone does. The issue before us now is by how much. EDIT: As far as the July 1st deadline, I'll be sure to ask Kylin about the reasoning behind it if he doesn't address it by the end of the day. Hopefully, I get this right. Ellie, that's exactly what I've been thinking all along. Many folks are afraid of how bad the split might be, or how much of a headache it is going to be. Believe me, I had a massive headache last week over this much discussed topic. Originally, some of the folks coming with me were asking about a new server. Another group of friends where I met them were on Balmung. We talked often about what our plans were, and it came to the crossroads of what's the best interest for folks. It was a massive headache, wasn't any drama. I finally just asked my guys and their guys what they want to do, and we decided to go on Balmung, it'll be more challenging anyway getting going than it would in a non-legacy. So we had no problem switching or changing decisions, that's kind of how my guys are. We're relaxed. However, I also see potential issues that are just unknown to us that part of me has to look at. My earlier fears are new folks being unable to join down the road if they don't get in right away because of queues. I'm hoping with the legacy/server thing this won't be an issue now, we'll see. The big question that I'm settling on, that leaves me very much concerned. What if SE decides to label a non-legacy server RP. That's going to hurt -everyone- in some way. The only way they could reach happy medium is a fresh server that allows x amount of days for legacy to switch over and then after that only new characters. Seems like alot of work on SE to try to appease everyone.
-
This I agree with 100%. As we don't know what's really being planned. Not to mention, if they do label one server as an RP server and its not Balmung. What will happen then? There is things to consider and I'm waiting to see how SE plays all this out.
-
I spent many hours over the week discussing things with old friends on Balmung. We've been hashing out ideas and such. Which is a very positive thing, I got to thinking for awhile with the regional changes Balmung's population of 3 stars might drop substantially with the fact there is EU legacy and Japanese Legacy. So there is a better odds, 50-50 still maybe that the server will not hit full and lock folks out. Keeping that in mind, there is other food for thought here. Player houses are not instantly out, so you don't have to worry about it. Even players of Legacy aren't going to afford the best houses off the start. There will be roughly a 3 month period I imagine and even then, I doubt this will be an issue. I imagine they will focus on bug fixes and other unforeseen issues at launch before adding new jobs, classes and content. Think of starting Balmung as a challenge mode, you have a few support lines which is great versus none you might have in a non-legacy but you will be starting with players fully established economically, RP wise, PVE, etc? So I am looking at it more as a challenge from the game standpoint, not so much Rp. Rp might be difficult for some, it'll be a matter of trying to get involved. While I'm not 100% for starting on Legacy myself, and I'm willing to give up one of my old characters. The argument cannot be won, nor will it. Both sides have validity in their arguments and this is just one of those times, that you have to figure out what you as an individual want. I know that for myself, I have a strong alliance with another FC of friends I was a part of in v1.0 and I have a good group of people aiming to come over for PVE, Raiding and Roleplay. To me, FF14 has a strong capacity of lore and roleplay potential. You have to get used to the chat systems and things, but its better than most MMORPGS. And honestly, I'm up for helping any new player out - I'll probably spend a majority of my early time crafting or level syncing (provided I can get a rename at launch or p4 and change my old char up a bunch). All in all, you aren't alone in starting a new. And I'm willing to help folks out. Even I have to learn some things myself about the game, as I forgot how teleport changed bit.
-
Correct, but it made me think about queues on launch either way. I seriously doubt they are going to allow an overpopulation on one server at launch.
