I actually was playing my Lalafell as a noble, a Princess as a matter of fact. Though, the country I used I made up and is not even from Eorzea, but another section of Hydalean. She keeps that she's a Princess a secret though, as she ran away from home, and at least in her story, I'm not ready to have her go back

Could a moderator please take this thread down? I'm going to be making an official thread about the tavern, and don't want to make any duplicate posts. Thanks!

The "I'm RPing right now" thread!

Baelon is up at the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Atherial and Astorlogical Phenomena, at the site of his future tavern, unpacking things. The doors open, and foods on the stove! -
First off, props to Faceman7381 and his crew for starting up the Coffer and Coffin tavern nights  Along a very similar vein, in the Coerthas Central Highlands at the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Atherial and Astrological Phenomena there is a tavern. It is an unnamed tavern. I was hoping to have my character "open the place up", making it a place for open rp to everyone. My character would be the full time proprietor/bartender. Before I do, however, I just want to make sure that no free companies have laid claim to this tavern. I do know some free companies do rp around the area, as it seemed pretty busy with rp last night. The tavern looks like this. Inside: Outside: Once I have confirmation that no free companies have laid claim to it (and that I don't piss anyone off), then more information about the tavern itself will be rolling out. Thanks for the assistance on this.

I look very forward to this event when it is re-scheduled!

Is this event going on tonight @ 1130 est? I'd love to go

Yes, it does. There is a part of the Arcanist quest chain were you learn that slaves are being sold on the black market to the highest bidder. The way it was worded made it sound all encompassing, so yes, I believe the slave trade extends to more then just beast tribes.

Glad you all are enjoying it  Like I had said, I put it up for everyone to use and abuse as they wish, so please feel free to use it in your rp's

Law and Order: Eorzea GbEgjPS73fE [Disclaimer: I am new to Final Fantasy in both game and lore. I do not see myself nor say that I am some lore specialist. These are just a few things that I have pulled from the game itself and from knowledge I have of history and trying to gap bridges. Please feel free to correct anything that is said within this post accordingly. Thank you.] Law’s in Eorzea are a bit of a difficult thing, as are with most MMORPG role play settings. The main question, is why would one include laws in some rp’s? My character, through a bit of character evolution, is being rp'd as a lawyer/diplomat/book jockey type. Now, what basis can I use to rp a "lawyer" type you might ask? Would that even be any fun? let’s take a look a stereotypical role play archetype: The adventurer. Most adventurers will ride into town, ramble off some tavern rp, mayhaps get into an argument into someone that leads into fisticuffs, then that’s it. The town guards come in to try and arrest the adventurer and he pulls out the +5 laser sword of godmodding and smites the guards. Yet, this whole time it’s done with no repercussion, no thought of “Hey, I might get into trouble doing this.” Bringing laws into role play is a good way to spice up role play stories, or can be used as that added “spice” to push one’s role play from “ok” to “sat here for five hours, that was awesome!”. One of the inherent problems with bringing laws into rp, however, is having everyone on the same page so that fellow rp’ers not necessarily “follow” the laws, but know that laws are out there and that some people are using them in an rp. Now, let me tell you what this is not; This is not a “YOU MUST OBEY THESE LAWS BLARGH BLARGH BLARGH” type thread. On the contrary, I wish to present certain things that I have found both in game and that have some parallels in human history for the consideration of my fellow role players in hopes that I assist bringing that “spice” or missing element to everyone’s role player. I also hope that this could be something that as a community we could share and use as a common narrative for rp, perhaps even spurring some cross Free Company role plays. I’ve done a lot of searching, both online and in game and have come up with a few things. First, is seems that the mindset of Eorzea (during game time) is much like the real world during the renaissance and the age of discovery. Both these time periods were extremely pivotal times in human history were human beings were just coming out of extremely dark, destructive times. The world was beginning to be re-discovered, along with many sciences, art forms and ways of learning. This was both good and bad in that with all the advances were made, there was much heartache that happened as well. Laws during this time changed dependant on what nation laid claim to what place and could change dramatically from place to place. Now, putting this into final fantasy terms; the three city-states of Eorzea (Limsa Lominsa, Gridania and Ul’Dah) are now gaining a foothold, emerging from a much darker time of upheaval, though the Umbral era is still going on. Because of this, many of the laws that are enacted are both to protect their own borders and peoples and, to a lesser degree, see Eorzea climb out of the darkness. Now, there are a few crimes that I have seen in game that are illegal in all the city states, and that are enforced across the board in Eorzea. These crimes are: Theft, Murder, Robbery, and Kidnapping and selling/dealing of slaves. Anyone accused of any of these crimes would be brought in prosecuted to the highest extent. Also, one common enemy that is plaguing all the city states is the Garlean Empire, though they plague them in different ways. Now, just like the age of discovery, there were different laws between the different kingdoms (England, Spain, Portugal, etc.). Mirroring real life, I have noticed some different laws and mindsets within the three city-states in Eorzea: Sultante of Ul’Dah: Forbids any and all business with beast tribes that are deemed hostile. They also hold honest trade methods highly, looking badly on dishonest merchants. Some in game issues that plague Ul’Dah that could affect the way they dictate laws: Ul’Dah is having a big problem with Amaljaa attacking trade routes. This is making it difficult for trade to get back and forth, and as we know, trade has always been a cornerstone of Ul’Dah economics. Also, coming out of the first five years of the Umbral era, they are doing the best when it comes to money. This has caused many refugee’s to flood Ul’Dah. Because of this, Ul’Dah has no clear policy on refugee’s yet, leaving people that come to Ul’Dah looking to make a living in a sort of limbo. It seems that the Garlean empire is pilfering mines and resources that normally Ul’Dah would use for their own. This appears to be putting adding to the already heavy burden that Ul’Dah has been dealing with as of late. I would consider Ul’Dah much like Portugal or Denmark of the age of discovery. Ul’Dah is the economic and trade powerhouse of Eorzea. They are willing to do business with anyone, but it has to be done by their rules, and those rules could very well change from day to day depending on the world conflicts that effect Ul’Dah (i.e. One day the gates might be fully open for trade, but the next day the gates are closed because of a Garlean party has attacked caravans heading to Ul’Dah.) The last thing to remember is that the Syndicate will always get’s it’s share of the profits. Gridania: The Twelveswood seems to be the most important thing to the Gridanians. Poaching, and the destruction of the Twelveswood seems to be the things that Gridania really go after people about, though it appears as of late banditry seems to be on the rise in the Twelveswood. Gridanians have no love for war, and leave it as a last resort. They have the Ixal on one side, the Sylphs on another, and are starting to squeeze in on Gridania’s way of life. Seeing how Gridanian’s top priority is the protection and the healing of the Twelveswood, this is forcing Girdanians to arm themselves so that they can better protect their home. The Garlean empire seems to be doing de-foresting operations that are effecting the Twelveswood, which has angered the people of Gridania, and which appears to be putting an extra stress on the Twelveswood itself that in turn, effects Gridania. Gridanians seem more begrudgingly accepting of new persons within their borders. Due to the Black Shroud and the Twelveswood being effected so much they make their presence more known within Eorzea. If it wasn’t for that, they would still be isolated away from the rest of Eorzea. Because of this, I see them very much like Japan during the age of discovery. They seem to have a strong isolationist mind set, really wanting to keep to themselves. It only seems that recently they are begrudgingly associating with everyone else because they have too. Other than that, however, Gridanian’s don’t seem to trust outsiders enough yet to open their doors fully to them, and if they will, it is under much restriction and oversight by the Gridnaian government. Limsa Lominsa: The nautical power of Eorzea. Any ships that enter Limsa Lominsa can be ordered to be boarded and inspected. Any goods are allowed to be confiscated as per the official inspection, and ALL ships get inspected. Limsa seems to have three things that they are struggling with, and those are the Sahagin, Kobolds, and feuds in between Pirate clans within Limsa. Because of this, laws dealing with all three issues are in place. It also seems that the slave trade has found it’s way into the underbelly of Limsa, as the dealing in the underground slave trade is met with the harshest punishments. The Garlean empire sees to have made their way into Limsan territory, attacking ships going in and out of Limsa. This is much like the privateers that would attack the armada’s that scooted back and forth across the Atlantic during the age of discovery. Limsa, however, seems to be the most open to Adventurers, and as long as the rules are followed, people are pretty much left alone to conduct business as they seem fit. Much like Spain or England during the age of discovery, they are willing to open their doors to practically anyone, be them with good intentions or not. Courts and law enforcement in Eorzea: We all know that each city state has their own form of law enforcement. They would be the Yellow Jackets in Limsa, the Flame Honor Guard in Ul'Dah and the Wood Wailers in Gridania. Though I have not seen any actual court houses per say, but I have seen court cases being brought in front of tribunals, made up of locals business people/government people. So, hopefully as you can see, to try and rp a "lawyer" type might be a lot more exciting then one would think. Even if you aren't rp'ing a lawyer type, a free companies rp might be made a bit more exciting if they added a few difficulties in the ways of some laws. Maybe they are wrongly accused of trading with a violent beastman tribe? Maybe someone within the free company is actually making illegal deals that is effecting the free companies standing with a city-state? I hope that you all enjoyed this read. Take care, and I'll see you all in Erozea  *places a pie down and makes a mad dash for the door*

I've never been to the Kansas City one, but I have been to the NY Renfaire and the NJ Renfaire. They are a lot of fun, but I can be pricey, not saying that you can't do it on a budget. I know for the NY Renfaire they sell discount tickets at Walgreens around were I was living. The cool thing is that (if they follow the formula of other Renfaire's) they will have "theme" days, like a fantasy theme day or a kids day. The fantasy theme ones are always fun because it brings all walks of sci/fantasy life to the Renfaire. Nothing like seeing a Stormtrooper and a knight hamming it up! All in all, they are a lot of fun. If you can, go check it out. *places pie on table then darts out of room*

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Elkabong419 replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
You know, it took me quite a while to to peg down how I wanted to make Night Rain. I admit, I do love taking different character perks from other characters in media and toss them into a blender and.. Viola! There is my character. For Night Rain, I used Doctor Alan Grant (Jurassic Park), Doctor Daniel Jackson (Stargate), and Doctor King Shultz (Django Unchained) -
I. Basic Info Characters: Night Rain Ghostguard, Baelon Mcleod, Unnamed Lalafell Primary character: Night Rain Linkshells: None at this time Primary RP linkshell: None at this time II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to Heavy Views on RP combat and injuries: As long as it is discussed ahead of time, it's good. I have even killed a character off or two if it meant moving a story plot forward. Having said that, when it comes specifically to my characters I don't care. I come from a table top background with ruthless dungeon/game masters. No matter how smart or good you are, if the dice fail you, they fail you. If your hp hits -10, reroll character. Just because my character dies IC'ly, it doesn't mean I won't be pve'ing or pvp'ing with him/her. Views on IC romance: I lean towards no, as any IC romances I'll be having will be involving my fiancee's characters. That's something that takes a lot of trust building and communication that, at least in the foreseeable future, I don't see happening with anyone but my fiancee. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): That's okey dokey, again takes communication. One thing I will sway away from is Baby/Children dying. Not that I won't rp through it, but if possible I really, really try to stay away from that topic (hits kinda close to home for me.) Views on lore: It's important, and I try to follow it. However, sometimes (to me) a persons story trumps lore. So, if it's a good story and the character is fun to rp with then I'm down. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): whichever ones are available. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Eastern Standard Contact info: I can be reached here [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]

I am no way, shape or form a lore expert. I have done research on the Hellsguard, as my character is a Hellsguard and I was running into the same problems you are. Unfortunately, most of the info you will find is a repeat from one place to another. Here are two places that I have gone too. Short blurb from Gamer Escape From the FFXIV Wiki Also, check out the RPC Wiki on Hellsguard, were you can find a lot of the same information. RPC Wiki Having said that, One thing I have seen about the Hellsguard is that a majority of them have come down from their home in Alabathia's Spine, which is a mountain range in northern Eozrea north of Sharalyan. Supposedly the gates to hell reside there. Do they? I have not found anything that is conclusive to that fact. Most Hellsguard that come down and integrate into civilization do not use their families last name, but just use their first name. They also do not use the Roegadyn language when making their names, but use the common tongue. They still will try to name themselves after naturey things. This is a big difference from the seawolves who not only use the Roegadyn language for their names, but also keep the family, or surname, name. (Hence, why my character is Night Rain.) I kind of like the fact that for the Hellsguard, they have left it quite open to interpretation in regards to their back stories. Going off of the language, the fact that physical competition (or any competition for that matter) is important too them, and the way the Roegadyn's seem to be a northern race from long ago, one could make a good case that they are very viking/germanic/icelandic when it comes to social interaction with their families. If you would like to see how I've integrated my hellsguard family into his backstory, check out my wiki: Night Rain's Wiki *places a pie down to hide his escape and flee's"

*places pies down for all to eat* I did follow the naming convention for my Hellsguard that I made (Night Rain) and actually worked both the Hellsguard naming convention and the overall Roegadyn naming convention into his back story. That doesn't mean one HAS to stick to naming conventions. I mean, let's look at the real world. I come from a spanish family; straight off the island with extremely spanish names. For example, my father is Jose, and he named me and my brothers Jose as well (NOTE: please insert Hose-A, Hose-B, Hose-C jokes here). My grandfathers name? Timothy. Mind you, he never left his farm on Puerto Rico, so his parents never had any outside influence to name him such. They just wanted to name him.... Timothy. Going forth, will I follow naming conventions? Probably. I know my Hyur will be Baelon Mcleod. The first name follows the midlander naming convention but his surname? *shrug* I'm not sure. I just like it because its from Highlander . So you see, names are what you make them.

*Sets a buffet table ripe with pies for all his fellow Comic peoples* Eat! Be merry! Now... For my favorites (I'll split the lists up between western comics and Manga/Anime): 1) Batman (Though Bruce will always be the bat, I did enjoy when Dick took over for him. It gave a new spin on the character which was nice to read.) 2) Wolverine 3) Booster Gold 4) Spider Man 5) The Magdalena 6) Captain America (Steve Rodgers) 7) Deadpool Corps (They had a small run, but DAMN that comic was fun to read!) 8) Robin (Damien Wayne) 9) Power Girl 10) Gotham City Sirens (As the ensemble. The in between with Ivy, Catwoman and Harley was great!) Manga/Anime: 1) Robotech/Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (DUH! Just look at my profile pic  Again, the whole ensemble through out the whole series was just so well written. I loved watching and reading it.) 2) Vita/Vita Yagami (Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha) 3) Alucard (Helsing) 4) AKB0048 5) Mega Man 6) Zafira (Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha) 7) Captain Tyler (Irresponsible Captain Tyler) 8) Captain Harlock 9) Grendizer (UFO Robot Grendizer) 10) Mister Popo

Yea, I wanted to just throw my two pies worth in on this. It's a common rp'er dilemma. I know me personally, I always tend towards the more lesser races when I make characters, or the ones that people look at and are like "Er?" Heck, I have a buddy that will literally go through three characters before he settles.. And this is both in MMO's and in table top games :geek: In the end though, it's all about what makes you ultimately happy. What you could always do is make a character like your Miqo'te as an elzen (but not erase your Miqo'te) and run around with him for a bit, see if you like him. Maybe he'll grow on you. If not, you can just send the extra coin to your Miqo'te, and delete the extra character  Always remember though, even if there ARE a herd of cat people running around: Your is special because it's your Miqo'te. It's your game. Play how you want and what you want.

Ha ha  Funny you guys ask this, as I was wondering the same thing. I had asked my mentor about "open world rp"... You know, rp that is just happening around, and he had said that most of it happens on the linkshells. I was actually going to make a thread in regards to open world rp, so that people like us (that are just coming into arr) at least have an idea of were to start for rp.
