1. Hello and welcome~! Oh a black mage pirate ! Pirate mages always sound so fun, I can't wait to see it fleshed out (if that is what you go with!). Anywho, if you've got any questions about anything or would like some character feedback feel free to post it here on the forums, we're all super helpful! And while I won't be seeing you in game (I sold my soul to Balmung) I hope you have a great time over on Gilgamesh C:
2. Hello and welcome~! If you've got any questions about anything or would like some character feedback feel free to post it up on the forums! We're all really helpful~ and I hope to be seeing you in-game soon C:
3. /Roegaydn high five! Both of your ideas are fantastic, but I'm absolutely in love with your first character concept - he almost comes off as a superhero of sorts; putting on an outfit and battling it out in the arena for the kids to watch him beat up the bad guy. I'll have to agree with Torn Sky on this and say I've yet to see anyone going for the fresh young thang niche, but it's something new and it sounds like it would be a blast to play around with C:
4. I spy with my little eye a cutie patootie Lalafell with a manstache! I'm not sure why either, but the iPhone likes to stretch images. Bad iPhone, no. Wonderful drawing though, you keep on with the good work! :moogle:
5. Hello and welcome~! To answer your questions: Balmung will be a larger community, but that's not to say either server will have more of an abundance of roleplay than the other; everyone's eager on both servers! Second question: I don't see why the idea of a Lala dragoon bounty hunter wouldn't be plausible C: so go for it! If you've got anymore questions or would like character feedback, feel free to post 'em up on the forums! We'll be happy to help~ Hope to see you in game C:
6. Hello and welcome~! Strong female characters unite! /Roegadyn fist bump. To expand on what Teardrop said: you can be in up to eight linkshells and only one Free Company. Free Companies get bonuses and rewards if I've not mistaken, like other MMO guilds. I think the Linkshell Hall has a few Free Companies posted up there; I know Facets of Eorzea is one if you're looking to go on Gilgamesh. But both Free Companies and linkshells are good for making friends and doing stuff C: If you have any more questions or would like some character feedback, feel free to post it on the forums~! Hope to see you in game C:
7. Hello and welcome~! I just got done running around with C'io a few minutes ago C: I'll make sure to blame her when she comes back. Anywho, if you have any questions or would like some character feedback, feel free to ask here on the forums we're all super helpful! Hope to see you in game C:
8. Hello and welcome~! I hope you enjoy the beta this week, and if XIV catches your interest do feel free to ask any and all questions here on the forums! If you're looking to stay, Eva's RP Handbook and/or the Mentorship Program might be two places you want to check out C: Otherwise, have a great time in week and I hope to see you in game!
9. Hello and welcome~! Oh my gosh, chiptune music is absolutely amazing, I love it. Wish I had time to learn how. Anywho, if you have any questions about anything or would like some character feed back, feel free to ask here on the forums C: Hope to see you in game!
10. Hello and welcome~! If you have questions about anything or would like character feed back, feel free to ask here on the forums C: As for servers, I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. For a newer community, I'd suggest Gilgamesh, or if you'd like a more established community, I'd suggest Balmung. Or if you can't decide, why not make a character on both? Either way, I hope you find a server that suits you!
11. Yikes this was well overdue. I. Basic Info Characters: Scarlet Willow Primary character: Scarlet Willow Linkshells: The Blue Skies Adventuring Company & Eorzean Hunters League Primary RP linkshell: Eorzean Hunters League II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I would say medium to heavy. I like to bein-character as much as possible, although I’ve never quite played (or roleplayed in) a game like XIV (and likewise XI) so the multi-class system will take some getting used to for in-character purposes. Otherwise, I’m a mean green red axe-swingin’ lady! Views on RP combat and injuries: I believe in IC realism and OOC communication. While I don’t think it necessary to be100% proficient in your class (or not even be a part of a certain class) to deliver a simple punch or amateurishly swing a weapon around, I also don’t think we should be bar brawling with Omni Slash. I mean could you imagine how much gil you’d have to pay for damages? No, but in all seriousness, I feel there needs to be a realistic feel to fights; from pushing and shoving to downright wrestling in the dirt to actual battle. If one breaks their arm, I feel like that should hinder IC combat for quite some time. Or if someone gets a pretty nasty and deep gash, there should be a scar of some sort. But that brings me to my next point, which is healing. Healing should be a tiresome effort after a while, a healer should need to rest after X amount of wounds and depending on the severity of the wounds. With in game “death” I see it as being in an unconscious state unless stated otherwise by the player, and in return “raising” that person from their unconscious state should require a lot of energy. I also believe Limit Breaks should be very energy consuming – but in the same respect, if we absolutelyneed an Omni Slash to kick a primal in the teeth before everyone up and dies or we desperately need a Healing Wind, I don’t see a problem with that sometimes it’s unavoidable. OOC communication I feel is really important. If you’re going to get into a heated argument with another character, it’d be considerate to say something OOCly beforehand and set aside a couple dos and don’ts. Like: don’t stab my character in the spleen with a broken bottle of orange juice because I need her to be up and well for an IC battle this weekend, but feel free to break her nose against the bar counter. Not so specific, but you get the gest. Views on IC romance: So this can be sort of a sticky subject, but I’m totally for it as long as there’s (I’m saying it again get ready) OOC communication and set apart of dos and don’ts or ask if you’re okay with something that may or may not be offensive or whatever. I’m pretty cool with everything except actually playing out doing the do. I think IC romance adds a nice garnish to characters, gives adifferent view to seeing them. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I don’t usually create another character to play family members or close friends, but that’s just my preference and I don’t see a problem with it at all. I’ll talk about family members, but usually I’ll purposefully make it so that meeting them ICly would be kind of difficult (dead, missing, etc.) Views on lore: Outright breaking it is a no-no, bending it is okay within reason, especially if not all the lore is there. If you feel like you’re breaking lore or bending too far, speak up and ask C: no one’s gonna smack you with a ruler on your wrist for asking (at least I’d hope not). I personally try to stay within the limits of lore like naming conventions, culture, religion, etc. but it doesn’t bother me one bit if someone doesn’t fit the name lore, culture, religion, as long as the lore is not broken off its hinges. I also really appreciate when people tell me I’m breaking lore as I’ve been guilty of it in other games when missing something while reading up on stuff. It happens. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I come from a background of heavy forum roleplay and writing ridiculous paragraphs, and when I first entered the world of MMO roleplay it was like someone slapped me in the face with a fish. Generally unpleasant and I sort of stood there with this deer-in-headlights expression. But I adapted and learned and once I got the hang of this more fast-paced typing/reading, it’s pretty engaging. If you’re in a large group and the chat window is constantly scrolling like movie credits, I think it’s a good idea (and generally polite) to keep /say and /em functions to a minimum. If I think someone missed something, I OOCly /tell them; it happens (happened to me quite a few times). For more enclosed, in depth conversations with a smaller group of people such as linkshell meeting, a one topic discussion, or just two or three people chatting, I don’t see where a paragraph could hurt. Sometimes I do find myself reverting back though and if I do, /slap me with a fish. Linkshell chat should be as IC as the leader of the linkshell wants it to be, and if there’s an IC conversation going on I think it’s polite to keep OOC chat out. I don’t see anything wrong with OOC chatting if it’s a slow day though, or if you want to plan a group outing on the fly and nothing’s going on. I use ( these ) or [ these ] for OOC chat. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Twilight Zone Eastern Standard Contact info: Feel free to shoot me a PM here, catch me in game with a /tell, or poke me via Skype: madamerioulette [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
12. Ah~ this was so wonderfully helpful with sledgehammering out final details C: Also totally didn't do this instead of class work shhhh summer classes are the worst
13. Hello and welcome~! I'm really interested to read about (should you do a profile) and meet your character - Mister Moreaux sounds super interesting ! If you have any questions or would like character feedback, feel free to ask! Hope to see you in game C:
14. Hello and welcome~! Always nice to see a new roleplayer C: A few links to check out: the Mentorship Program if you'd like someone to take you under their wing and show you the ropes and I find Eva's Roleplay Handbook really helpful for anyone new to roleplay C: If you've got any questions on anything or would like character feedback, feel free to ask in the forums, we're all super helpful! Hope to see you in game C:
15. I've never seen any sort of cattle or cows in XIV so far, but I think a good replacement for grazing animals would be Ewe in La Noscea, the Aldgoats in Thanalan, or the Antelopes in Gridania. I heard a while back (like way way back) that the dev team was thinking about adding the Golden Saucer from VII in a later patch/expansion, and I could only assume there would be the chocobo races mini game. I haven't heard or read anything about color breeds or even different breeds of the same color, but if they were going to implement the chocobo racing mini game I think they would have to also add in some sort of chocobo breeding, thus different breeds. Sorry I don't know much more, but I hope it was somewhat helpful! C:
16. Thanks for the answers, I really appreciate them C: Your character's background is really solid, but I keep coming back to the Bright One. I like how you gave him a sort of "God" feel, I first saw him as some prophet. Everyone may see the Bright One, but they seem him/her in their own image - I love that, it's flexible. I don't think it's breaking lore in my opinion since you aren't claiming the Bright One is as popular as the Twelve. I can't wait to see your character profile C: and I hope to see you in game as well!
17. Hello and welcome~! I have my fingers crossed for you to get a beta key, sometimes we post where to get beta keys on the forums so hopefully you can snag one when other sites throw them up. Otherwise, like Kari said, the Mentorship Program is a really great way to have someone take you under their wing and help you out with the world of XIV, and if you have any other questions or would like character feedback feel free to ask C: Hope to see you in game!
18. :chocobo: Can't have angels without wings! Hello and welcome~! If you have any questions about anything, or need character feedback feel free to ask, we're all super helpful C: Hope to see you in game!
19. Hello and welcome~! If you have any questions or need character feedback, feel free to ask; we're all super helpful C: Hope to see you in game!
20. Linkshells are sort of like private chat channels with a group of people; you can have up to eight of them. In 1.0 they were supposed to be a type of guild system, and now they sort of are a lesser form of such. Free Companies are more similar to guilds of other MMOs; you can only have one, private chat channel, and have rewards/achievements if I'm not mistaken.
21. First off - hello and welcome~! Secondly - wow! You obviously put a lot of thought into this, I really enjoyed reading it. The creation of the Bright One was super interesting, I like how much influence he had on the clan and their belief system. I do have a few questions though /pitchfork. I jest! No, just harmless questions. One; I'm curious about how his clan feels about Zizimiru leaving to go see the world, will they disapprove? Two; You said Zizimiru read up on the Twelve, although the clan doesn't follow them. In fact they seem pretty content in their own world (correct me if I'm wrong). Will the world have an influence on him? Three; This one is less curious, more lore-based. Did the Bright One only come to the Yukok clan or does he sort of travel about? Would other neighboring clans have heard of the Bright One, did the Yukok talk about him/try to convert others or is he more of just a Yukok clan exclusive? Those questions are more like "I'm curious and you left me wanting more" questions, so you don't have to answer them. Otherwise, I really like where your character is going C:
22. For combat against anything besides another player, I just sort of do the action. It's been seen (hopefully beyond the bright effects) and it may be a little redundant to type it out. Although I'd really like to meet someone who can type out a battle emote within the 2.5 global cool down ! As for combat against other players, that's a little trickier. They're going to implement PvP (in v2.1 I think?) and I can only assume they'll be an option to duel against another person. In that case, I suppose again you wouldn't really have to type anything out, the action is being seen. If it's more of a bar fight type deal or heated argument, /em punching and the like would probably be better suited. When I /em a fight (this is just my opinion and style!) I tend to say something like "Scarlet Willow goes to punch so-and-so" although I don't emote the hit, giving the other person the option of whether or not their character dodged or got hit in the face by a Roegadyn fist o' pain. Hope I answered your question correctly! And these are just my opinions~ taking from what I've done in other MMOs
23. Hello and welcome~! It's refreshing coming from 1.0 to see this wonderful 2.0 blossom Hope to see you in game C:
