Hey, everyone! I'm pretty new to this in general, so bear with me as I make my first "Making Connections" post. So, I guess I should start this by telling you a bit about my character. Aera Espoir is a soldier of the Maelstrom. She is brusque and even cold at times, but tries to keep everyone's best interests at heart. Her sense of duty ensures that the mission comes before anything else. While some tend to be intimidated by her stoicism, she has a bit of spunk, at times -- and truly wants to make new friends. When off-duty, she travels Eorzea in search of adventure, as well as hunting for clues to her missing father's whereabouts. Born in Ala Mhigo, her mother and her fled the city at the age of four, during the Garlean invasion. Her father stayed behind so that they could escape, and Aera has not seen him since. After their escape, Aera's mother settled down in La Noscea, where Aera has currently spent the majority of her life. Big outside inspirations for her personality are Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, and The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3. Here is my Lodestone profile, in case you want it: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/15050506/ What I'm looking for: 1.) Generally a more serious, plot-orientated RP (i.e no tavern RP...time and place for it, but I've far too many to be interested) 2.) Off the back of the first point, nothing too grimdark 3.) A wide cast of characters of differing personalities and backgrounds! 4.) People willing to understand that I am new at this, and are also willing to help me become a better roleplayer, as the newbie I am. What I'm NOT looking for: 1.) No tavern or erotic RP, please. If there's anything else I need to add, just let me know! I look forward to meeting all of you~

Hello! Yes, I'd be quite interested in that. Care to PM me an invite to the Discord and we can set up a time in-game? -

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping I can find some folks on Balmung to RP with and further learn the tools of the RP trade. On that note, if you ever find me on Balmung, or want to schedule some RP -- please feel free to /tell me or just send me a PM. c: -

Aaaaand I just realized I should've posted this in the welcome forum. Niiiice. Can a mod please move this thread there? Thanks. -
Hi,everyone! I posted here back in July, but unfortunately got extremely busy with real life. Now, with my schedule a little more calmed down, I can devote some time to FFXIV (gotta get prepped for Stormblood!) and do a "reboot" for my Roleplaying; hence me posting in this board a second time. I'm Aera Espoir. My character is a Storm Lieutenant who, while off-duty, travels the land for adventure and clues to her father's whereabouts of whom she hasn't seen since childhood. In the past, I've dabbled in some tavern RP on Balmung, but frankly, I've been looking for a FC and/or group to do something a little more serious and plot-focused. Tavern RP is fun and all, but I want something that will allow me to further my character's development and "get into" her head, so to speak. Coming off from my long hiatus, I've went ahead and updated my Wiki page (it's still kind of a mess, though ) and intend to revise some of the old content there and add more when I get a little time. If there's any communities, FCs or LS'es on Balmung that you'd think I may be interested in, feel free to let me know! And you can check out my Wiki entry in my signature or find me on The Lodestone. So...yeah. Hey, everyone! Glad to be back. Can't wait to get into RP for real, this time.

Hi! I was reccomended this FC by a member of the forum as a beginning RP'er, and I'm really interested in joining. I tend to be on in the evenings, so send me a /tell anytime you want!
-
I would love to join! Would it be okay if you could add both my main PvE and my RP alt? Those are Jensen Fiore and Aera Espoir accordingly. Thank you.
-
Hi there! I, too, would like to join the Linkshell. My character's name is (As you've probably guessed), Aera Espoir--and I tend to be online towards the evenings.

Well, I've finally made the jump from Sargantas to Balmung. I really want to join a Linkshell first before jumping into a Free Company, and was wondering if anyone on the forums would like to extend a hand to a newbie FFXIV roleplayer. I'm really excited to hear the stories of other peoples' characters and how people interact with one another in the world of Eorzea. Sorry if this really isn't the best place to post this at!

I'm happy to announce that I've successfully transferred to Balmung, and have been slowly building more of my character's wiki! I can't wait to start RP'ing with everyone!!

Oh, definitely. If you're going to RP multiple characters, I highly recommend trying to schedule the RPs more if there's a lot of interest. I have a total of three RP characters, and there have been moments where it seems everyone wants to play with two or all three of them simultaneously. So, to alleviate that, I had a while where it was "this day is primarily for RP on Gogon" and so on - dedicated RP days for specific characters set as a baseline, and then adjusted based on who wanted to RP with whom and at what day/time. I think what really helps for me is that with my 2 characters, Jensen is strictly PvE/Story/etc and Aera is specifically made for RP. Having that divide really helps with choosing what you want to focus on when you sit down at the login screen, about to play FFXIV, yeah?

Wow, thanks for the responses, everyone! Yeah, it's a tricky tightrope to balance upon--but I'm going to have Jensen be my super-powered engame PvE character, and Aera be the RP character--and maybe I'll slowly end up playing one or the other more often. It depends on what the circumstance is. My headcanon is that Jensen is the Warrior of Light--and Aera is just a skillful wanderer, living in Eorzea. In doing that, it helps me separate the MSQ from RP'ing, which is apparently what many are expected to do in MMORPGs. My ideal situation would have Jensen be for getting to the endgame, doing serious content--or just taking a day to dungeon, interact with a FC, and just "Play" the game. Aera is a more storytelling approach--with some of Jensen's focus, but moreso on building a character and growing immersed in the world and the other players/characters who inhabit it. Obviously I intend on dungeoning and running instances with both, but it's too early to tell who will become my primary character, and what will become of the other character. Seems like having just *one* alt as opposed to several like a lot of folks on here will definitely be an easier balancing act, especially for an RP newcomer like myself. At the end of the day--I still gotta work towards making Aera a DRK.

That's a terrific and interesting point. I didn't think about how people RP'd those kinds of characters pre-3.0. One other conflict is that, while I see Aera as a swordswoman--I've tanked with Jensen as PLD for 3 years. You can't blame me for wanting to do something different. Hopefully 4.0 will give us a Swordsman DPS class. In the mean time, I'm probably going to go Rouge/ninja once I can unlock it.

I have an alt I rp as but yeah getting them leveled up isn't as bad, just takes some time, and at least you'll know what to expect. You can also get a friend to help you taxi around the three major cities first to make rping easier while you level. Sort of what I've been doing. I'm currently speed running the main story. Only 2 hours in and I'm already level 10. Aera's currently a MRD but I intend on changing that later when the game opens up to all regions of Eorzea.

Sorry to make yet another post so quickly after the previous one, but I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on having at characters dedicated to RP and casual play. I have my first character, Jensen, who in Heavensward/endgame content--and while I've been playing him since open beta, I don't have any real interest to RP as that character. Aera is a completely new character I've made. Ideally, I'd like her to eventually grow as strong as Jensen, even though that's going to take a lot of time. Not to mention I've seen her more as a Dark Knight or Machinst, which are both 3.0 roles that cannot be unlocked prior to entering Ishgard. What are everyone's thoughts on RP alts? It seems like a lot more work, but I think it's worth it in the long run if you truly have a specific vision for a character.

So, as some may know, FFXIV will be my first time really RP'ing. I've dabbled in it a bit in the past, but nothing really stemmed from the experience. I'm excited to actually be apart of a RP group/server, but I have a question: What is generally the accepted way to make your character's entrance or introduction when joining a new group? Do you talk OOC and introduce yourself first?
-
Thanks! Love me some GT every now and then...!8-) I've started work on my character's wiki page. It's extremely early and still pretty barebones, but it's a decent start. I'm really trying to research my lore and make sure nothing contradicts itself, while also staying futureproof for content ahead. Here's what I have so far, if you'd like to take a look.

Hello everyone, I'm new to Roleplaying in general, let alone inside a MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV. I created this account with my character's name to RP in the game, but am currently singing the woes of getting into Balmung. The server is always closed for new characters, and I cannot quite afford a server transfer at the moment... But that being said, I've been reading the stickies on the RP forums here, and I think I'm ready to take the dive and introduce myself! I don't know if this has been done before--but I'm sort of using RP as a means to grow as a writer, as I seem to struggle with character dialogue and truly understanding what it means to write a believable, flawed, interesting character. The character Aera is the protagonist of a story I've been writing. Her presence in Eorzea, if anything, is sort of a "What-if" scenario. So basically, the multiverse theory. And all that timey-wimey...stuff. I've been conjuring a backstory based off the game's lore that probably won't be ever told in an actual RP session, but it's good to establish just in case you get asked IC, "Where are you from?" But this little introduction isn't so little anymore. I'm glad to be here, and as a first-timer I need all the advice and tips I can get! Also, it may be awhile until I can transfer to Balmung/Gilgamesh, so if there are any good RP communities here that are located on other servers, I wouldn't mind situating myself there before making the jump. Thanks, everyone! Here's to fun times ahead! EDIT: I should mention that my main character for general playing/OOC gaming is in Balmung--but sadly my RP character will more than likely have to transfer.
