Last bump. LS is at five members including myself. Ul'dah's been relatively quiet.
-
Daily bump. Will be switching to a longer interval come 2/26/17. In case anyone actually reads these posts, the LS has gained members, to my surprise. Two people, another Brass Blade captain and a Sultansworn respectively with a possibility of a Flame and Blade in the future. On a sidenote, if anyone has a thaumaturge or priest of the Order of Nald'thal and would be interested in presiding over trials and such, send me a tell in-game. It'd be nice to have a more engaging scene than a fade to black after apprehension of a suspect. Couple of fun scenes were had, such as awkwardly trying to get a Vath to leave the city peacefully and detainment of an escaped noxius, which, surprise surprise, revealed some light intrigue. Dastardly corrupt Blades imprisoning innocent folks. Shame on them. Join the fun, lads and lasses.

Bump. I'll likely be editing these bumps in the future if or when this LS starts gaining members. Show off screenshots of scenes or events. Things like that.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
abc replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yeah... I've found that the mentor crown doesn't really mean anything in this game. Either it just gives people some sense of entitlement and the idea that they can be complete assholes or they end up underperforming or fucking around because the roulette dumped the group into a relatively low level dungeon. I can literally count the number of people with mentor crowns who've been helpful and polite in a roulette on one hand. Makes me feel disappointed honestly, but I suppose it's naive to expect that they'd be any less of an asshole than anyone else on the Internet. -
The Brass Blades are a military organization charged with the protection of Ul'dah and her interests in Thanalan. They are distinct from the Sultansworn (loyal protectors of the Ul Royal Family), the Stone Torches (protectors of the railways and mines of Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern), and the Immortal Flames (Ul'dah's Grand Company). They are privately financed by members of the Syndicate. Officially, the Blades exist to uphold law and order in the Sultanate and protect its settlements and trade routes, but it is not uncommon to find some within their ranks that are more loyal to their Syndicate masters than the city-state or its laws. Though some are easily corruptible, many serve with honor and take pride in upholding justice. Divisions of the Blades will often have a floral nickname, such as the Brass Blades of the Orchid stationed at Highbridge. Members of each division may also attach this title to their own names—for example, Captain Hunberct Longhaft of the Orchid, or simply, Hunberct of the Orchid. This IC/OOC linkshell serves dual purposes. The first is to serve as a form of long distance IC communication between members of the Brass Blades of the Carnation, a mounted unit of Blades meant to be an rapid deployment force. This entails responding to incidents ranging from Amalj'aa and Qiqirn attacks to more mundane banditry and interception of traffickers of goods such as somnus while performing the normal duties of a Blade. (The channel can be used ICly as well by the below mentioned Sultansworns, Flame, and non-affiliated Blades.) The second purpose is to hopefully aid in centralizing Ul'dahn law enforcement RPers, so we can help build connections. As such, Sultansworn, Immortal Flame, and other Brass Blades not of the same unit are welcome to join the LS and call upon each other for reinforcements and such. It is my hope that the second purpose will at least be fulfilled. If you are interested in joining, please contact the following for an invitation: Sgathaich Alpeach Also a resource for the armor: Brass Blade armor with thanks to an Ildur who has since stopped playing, but hasn't taken the picture down. Also some minor corrections, the Sipahi turban and Vermilion pieces mentioned can be obtained from Wanderer's Palace or Ampador Keep. The turban is also a Disciple of War piece, rather than monk specific, and as such, can be worn by GLD/PLDs. Use of the Cobalt Shamshir is recommended over the Aeolian scimitar due to the Shamshir being closer in size to the one used by the NPC Blades.

Dunno if you're still taking requests. Didn't see this thread before maintenance went up. Also ended up having to move spots for references since the sun went down in Ul'dah. http://imgur.com/a/sPBwV Eyes are the same color as the hair. Lean, wiry body. 5'8", 156 lbs. 1.73 m, 71 kg. Boyish features, light crows feet at the corner of the eyes, and slight graying at some of the roots of her hair. If you choose to include the sword, it's usually kept in a scabbard of black leather and worn at the hip with a separate sword belt from any belts that may be depicted in an outfit. Lemme know if you need more details.

Good luck to all. -
I'd not known that Red Mage was hinted at in Stormblood, Valence, so thank you for that particular tidbit of info. I think I might hold off on this particular aspect of her capabilities pending future information with this revelation, since having to go back and retcon things can be a pain.

Thank you, Kiliet, for your tale and advice, I'll be sure to take it into consideration as I go forward with my character's story. On another note, for the broader user base who might glance through this after the bump, I was wondering if the role of a Mystic Knight or a Rune Fencer might be plausible in the game's setting. A spellblade, in essence, capable of the same sort of abilities Steiner of FF IX was capable of whilst Vivi was in the same party, though without the same restriction. I can't claim to be particularly learned in regards to aetherial manipulation and the like, but I imagined it to be something akin to a swordsman using thaumaturgy or something along those lines.

I've a sword/spearwoman (GLA/LNC) who would likely get along grandly with your character. Hangs around the Quicksand in Ul'dah as sellswords are wont to do. Has a tendency to treat people who seem younger than her as kid siblings too, so... probably won't turn out to be a romance. Also relatively new to the game, only been playing for the past few months. You're welcome to shoot me a PM on here to discuss things or stop by the Quicksand to RP once you've got airship access.

So, I finally managed to roll a character on Balmung after more than a few sleepless nights haunting the launcher during maintenance. Picked the first preset I saw, which was a female hyur midlander with a possibly lore unfriendly name (It's Gaelic in origin). Anyway, I've a really basic concept for her fleshed out already. She's an adventurer/sellsword (with morals) and a soft heart who started out because she got inspired by the tales of the Warrior of Light's achivements, so she ended up setting out to follow in their heroic footsteps to make Eorzea great again. She'd probably be somewhere in her twenties or so at least. Personality inadvertently ended up sort of a wish-fulfillment thing, sort of like the cool big sis sort of archetype. Been tossing around some ideas: Her sex/orientation/insertproperterm: intersexed female with functional male genitals (sterile, possibly impotent) and developed breasts, which to my understanding are possible phenotypes but I can't say for certain; the academic talk on the sites I was going to started going over my head after the first few paragraphs. Thinking about consigning this as a largely irrelevant detail or just making her a complete female for the sake of convenience unless I end up forming a rapport and pursuing a romance with another PC, particularly since as far as I know, gender... issue... discrimination... I don't know what it's called these days, don't appear to be a thing in Eorzea. Sort of ties in with the image I had of the character while making her. Like, she looks female enough that a glance would lead one to assume such, but closer inspection would make one wonder if she's really female or just an unusually pretty male. Or something like that, I don't know; starting to ramble since I'm jumping all over this post and haven't slept yet. Possession of the Echo: Tempering seems like such a bad way to go, and in her line of work it's likely that she'd end up going against beastmen in some manner at least on a semi-regular basis which means capture is a danger. Usually fine with letting things play out realistically and all, but given the difficulties of rolling characters on Balmung, I'm leery of letting literally the only access to ingame RP I have so far get killed off in such an... off-handed? manner. Free Paladin: Read about this on the forum, the ideals and such seem to fall in line greatly with my character's motivations. Unsure whether to have her be one already despite currently being a low level or if I should work my way up to it. The latter seems to promise a more interesting narrative and better development but I suppose it'd depend on whether or not there are active Sultansworn to mentor under and such (if I understand how the training works correctly). Nothing else really comes to mind at this time, though I wouldn't mind suggestions and the like. I'm not really familiar with the game's timeline or its lore really, I mean haven't even gotten into Heavensward content. Farthest I've gotten is the Snowcloak dungeon. Most I know is that ARR stuff picks up five years (I think?) after the Calamity and most of the MSQ stuff, though I'm sure I've glossed over a lot of the details in my memory. Apologies for the rambling. I didn't go to sleep and ended up jumping all over the place while making this post. Won't be surprised if it goes ignored, it's hardly the most... coherent at points.
