  1. K'jhanhi's own expression softened at that, K'ile's words spurring memories of his granddaughter. He could see a similar reaction in K'deiki's face, the former huntress's thin, crackled lips curving into a faint, sad smile. Shifting his weight in the sand to ease pressure on hips that had grown weak in age, K'jhanhi returned his attention to K'ile, scowl back in place. "She was happy. And yet she is not here. If what you say were true..." He let out a rattling sigh that was half growl in his old throat. "She would be welcomed home."
  2. This is in no way a common thing across MMOs and has more to do with FFXIV's male models not all being steroid beefcakes - the same reason a lot of women play male high elves or male castanics in TERA.
  3. K'deiki felt her chest grow cold at the tia's words. K'piru, in Ul'dah? And her granddaughter... Her head dropped in disbelief. "She does not deserve the honor of the tribe's name," K'jhanhi snapped, yellow eyes dark and bitter. That she lived came as a shock - that K'airos lived even moreso - but he had severed his daughter from his thoughts five years ago, and he would not allow her to come back to them. From her spot on the ground, K'deiki peered unseeingly towards K'ile. "But K'airos... we thought she... Why would she not return to us?"
  4. K'deiki's face turned towards the shadows where the voice had lashed out from, and though her eyes could not pierce the darkness there, she could easily picture K'takka's expression. In her mind, the woman appeared perhaps much younger than she was, but that was only a detail. She sighed, shook her head. "We would not ask you to part with them, firedancer. Your anger is misplaced." "We would ask you to not part with your living family so callously," the former nunh finally spoke again, a bite in his tone that had not been there before to counter the tia's one defensiveness. "You didn't just take them with you - you abandoned others who yet still lived. Yes you returned, but that does not change that you left your family without reason."
  5. "You misunderstand," K'deiki rasped from where she had knelt in the shadows. One knobby hand extended from the cloth wrapping her, palm up, and trembled with the unsteadiness of age. "We would not ask you to part with them in such a way. Yet when you abandoned your family--" a hacking cough interrupted her words momentarily before she continued, "... however temporary. You took them with you, without regard to their home. To where they belonged."
  6. Only three of those are MMOs, but really... Four or five games with extensive body customization is not anywhere close to a significant number. The vast majority of MMOs don't offer body shapes that diverge from standard female and male beauty. That's not to say they shouldn't, just that they don't. Also, body sliders means a lot of work for the modeling/art team fitting all the armors to every possible slider point so that there isn't terrible clipping. Preset body types are much easier to work with from a time invested vs. payout perspective, and I'm okay with that. Just gimme a bust and height slider (as well as one for muscle definition, which wouldn't alter the body as it conforms to gear at all and is thus very simple), combined with some different body types and I'm good!
  7. Actually, posts asking for more character creation are one of if not THE most common thing you see on the WildStar beta forums. Far more people than you think value robust character creation.
  8. Never said I'd be against more varied body types. I'm unsure if sliders are in the cards, considering the rework it would take to fit it all to the gear, though I would hope that if we did get any sliders, a bust slider would be the first to come (it's what I really, really, really want). I could see them implementing more preset body types in the future, though - would be pretty straightforward. The only problem would be how to give players access to changing their body type, and the solution I'd pick for that would be to give full recustomization available in-game, like how Rift does (a barbershop that essentially takes you back to the char creation screen, and the gold cost goes up depending on how many and what types of things you edit). So yea! Totally doable. Just have to convince them it's important. That said, I do think it's a little unfair to pick on WildStar for not having nonstandard female body types (though actually, their "boxy" choice for body type strays quite far from the standard) when... no one else does either. I mean, FFXIV's female models are all decidedly feminine as well. What's more, you can get some actually fairly non-traditional beauty looks in the face department in WildStar, but in XIV you're limited to a few very standard pretty faces.
  9. I'm Confused... While both those were taken before the body types were introduced... Where's the half-dressed pin-up? (Some of the runs are kinda silly though yea. Especially mechari and mordesh... I love the aurin run, though - it's very bouncy! - and the human isn't so bad.)
  10. As K'deiki settled herself back into the dirt, her withered body shaking with a few weary coughs, the shadowed form of K'jhanhi stepped forward between the two women. His dark, leathery skin shifted and cracked as he squinted yellow eyes towards the tia. After dealing with K'ailia, the respect shown here was refreshing; it felt like their family had finally settled down. That didn't change the current issues, however. Two of them. The first... "It is good to see the spirits of our fallen returned to us," he rumbled, thin eyes shifting towards the bracelet wrapped snug about K'ile's wrist. "Though they should never have been taken in the first place. Tell us how you thought to honor them by dragging their souls across the world as nothing more than jewelry. Do they not deserve to remain with family?"
  11. Y'know, I never thought I'd be the one saying this, because I was the person who railed against the old human and aurin boobs back in the day (even gave Carbine explicit feedback on an e-mail survey at the end of one of the closed beta sessions stating that it was keeping me from wanting to play the game), but... That's the style. The females are varying shapes of hourglass (unless they're a funky side-character), while the males tend to be varying shapes of inverted triangle (again, unless you're a funky side character). Now, I'll give you the boobies. I'd love it if they had a chest slider at the very least and let us pick what breast size we wanted with our various body types. But I think your complaint is with the art style as a whole, not with Carbine's treatment of character models.
  12. The aged woman trudged after K'ile, letting the enthusiasm in his words and behavior wash over her like Azeyma's warmth and carry her to the elders' tent when her own strength may have failed. She pushed through the thin hide flap into flickering shadows in silence and said to the vague outlines of the other two denizens, "Our family is home now."
  13. K'deiki paused in her push through the low dunes towards shelter, letting out a rattling sigh and squinting towards the tia. His form was a fiery silhouette to her failing vision, and she found herself grateful for their firedancer's return, even though his leaving had stirred some ire. Far too many of their family had left and not returned. This had never bothered the elder before five years ago, but now... every single one was precious. "Feeding your family is a good reason," her voice rasped, milky eyes smiling with the relief she felt. The effort to travel out to survey the situation and hand down her judgment had drained her more than it should, and she leaned heavily against her walking staff. "But feasts with reason... it's not yet midsummer, firedancer."
  14. The Hipparion tribe is still kicking, so if you're interested in some interactions with a desert-dwelling, nomadic, and until very recently extremely isolated Seeker tribe, we could try and work some stuff out. They could use a bit more culture shock.
  15. Nope, but I've been in the beta since August. ^^
  16. I actually love the lore, the art style, the housing (finally something that comes close to Rift's dimensions in customizability!), the class concepts and mechanics (except for medic, which I'm still kinda meh on), and the combat... though with the combat, I really, really wish they'd said good bye to the whole tab target thing completely, instead of trying to cling to it while simultaneously trying to make action-y combat. But. I can live with it. Warplots are all kinds of awesome, and I love that you can start practicing in arenas at a low level. Also the battleground maps are super creative and make use of terrain in great ways. Things I don't like about WildStar: Character creations is super limited (though the new body types is a vast improvement - we still need MORE COLORS for skin/hair and more hairstyles). 40 man raids (ew ew ew ew). No costumes in PvP. The change they made to the costume system that ties it to an NPC in Thayd/Illium. The inability to freely place housing decorations beyond the invisible wall border of the specific house plug (I wanna fill up all the other plugs with decorations instead of actual plugs ). Oh and the raiding tier sets are fugly.
  17. I'm legitimately curious about what you found disappointing, ArmachiA. Elaborate! *pulls up a chair*
  18. You can prevent people from getting "tired of it" by baking the experience into the entire game. Put in various housing items and upgrades for people to work for as they level (e.g. from various GC ranks, from completing certain side quests or particularly momentous story turns, as themed drops from dungeons, rewards for achievements) and in endgame (e.g.... everything I listed prior, plus stuff from all the endgame content we already have). That way it is a constantly evolving experience, and there are constantly new stretch goals to work towards. Suddenly the feature becomes fun and engaging and long-lived rather than, "Well I'll grind to 50 and grind X amount of gold and then I'm pretty much done." As for the alt thing, I remain baffled as to why they would prefer people pay them less money every month. This is likely the crux of it, yes. Mod note: Deleted the last paragraph because it references excised posts.
  19. Not sure I should post again at risk of offending others' sensibilities (...). The price actually doesn't bother me so much as the level 50 requirement. Gil I can get and transfer to RP alts when necessary. Levels... not so much. At least on rp alts I don't really feel the loss of glamour too much because I just use them for rp, so I can just swap out gear sets instead of costuming (even though I'm super annoyed at the gear type and ilvl restrictions *grumble*). But being completely blocked from what would be a fun, rp-related investment... is seriously disappointing. I want to be able to enjoy the game's fluff content as much as I enjoy running dungeons with my friends... I don't think that's too much to ask. Mod note: Excised the text in "(...)" as it references posts removed from the thread.
  20. To add to your list, Rift provides starter dimensions to everyone who completes the unlocking quest (which you can access at like level 5 or somesuch), which are small but just as functional as any other dimension, and you can earn "better" ones by completing content or earning plat. WildStar provides everyone with their own land plot at level 10, and though it does cost some money to fill up the various plugs, a small house is extremely cheap and more than affordable for a level 10. ArcheAge housing is available as soon as you have enough gold to purchase a deed, which can be quite early in the game as some are fairly cheap. I'm sure there are other examples out there, as well. @K'ailia: I said nothing about being unwilling to put effort into a feature, but the "journey" does not need to be entirely frontloaded. The journey is best experienced when you are actually experiencing the content - i.e. when you're decorating/upgrading/etc your home. Don't make me jump through hoops just to be able to START the journey. SE has done fluff content horribly, horribly wrong almost without exception.
  21. Like I said, I don't care if the game presents housing as owned by the GCs, or owned by the Primals, or as freakin' communes. It doesn't matter. It's a game feature. It's fluff content. It has no business being restricted to level 50 characters behind a GC rank wall and costing crap tons of money.
  22. Further clarification of the translation from the forums reveals that what was actually stated was more: "I've only got about 850k left after donating gil to my FC. Will that be enough?" "No, I don't think so." So, considering Yoshi seems to think that the average player has 1.5-2 million gil on hand (as per another interview moment), I think we can predict personal housing starting in the 1 million range. Even more absurd! @Kailia: The land can't possibly be under Grand Company "jurisdiction", because the Grand Companies are not governmental bodies; they're simply military units. And even if they were, it shouldn't matter because this is fluff content and it should be accessible to everyone from the start. I'm actually starting to think like Ignacius in that I'm considering reducing my subscription amount to the one-character price, even though I actually do have four other alts. I can't do jack shit with them if I don't feel like leveling them to 50 though, so what's the point in even having them? Apparently SE doesn't want my money. It's just a shame my 6 month sub renewed back in April, so now I'm stuck with this for 5 more months...
  23. Too much, IMO. I come from an MMO where the basic intro house for personal housing is free, and the effort and journey comes from either decorating that, or saving up to get a bigger one and decorating that. But nope. Apparently SE is anti-fun when it comes to fluff content. ; And horrendously alt-unfriendly. I'd even say alt-hostile.
  24. I have leveled BLM to 26; this means I am an expert in all things (ALL things), and my word is law. Firestarter - Too keep the effect more in line with its name, when under the Firestarter buff, the player will spontaneously combust any nearby players or monsters. Thundercloud - Player becomes despondent and if there are no other tall points in the vicinity, has an increased chance of being struck by lightning. Apocatastasis - Targeted player can now /tell while in dungeons, but only for 12 seconds, so you better plan ahead with your trash talk. Scathe - Instead of a damaging spell, when activated, the player will hurl auto-generated insults at the target. The generator still has some kinks to work out, so there may be some unexpected results. Aetherial Manipulation - Movement has been reanimated so that the player performs the Electric Slide to their targeted position. Manaward - Upon activation, player's mana is transformed into a defensive shell that will absorb damage equal to the amount of mana used. Player cannot activate abilities while under the effect of Manaward. Once the damage is fully absorbed, player must pester their BRD friend for manasong, all the while suffering chastisement from other group members for standing in the bad. Thunder spells - Sound effect increased in volume and may make dog-type monsters quake in fear.
  25. I really, really don't think they need those stupid creation restrictions anymore. It's kind of ridiculous that it's harder to make a new character now than it was in the first month of the game.
