  1. I selected female miqo'te, as she's likely to be my main, but I also have plans for elezen, a lalafel, and a highlander at the very least.
  2. I think we're going to get along. :3
  3. Hnnngh. I hate TV Tropes with a fiery passion, especially when people try to reduce a character to a TV Tropes link. @.@
  4. You shouldn't ever apologize for speaking your mind in a respectful way.
  5. Heh, this is me. One of the big draws of ARR for me is that it's not F2P. Everything else is icing on the cake.

    Bosses and Rp

Unless you're roleplaying an obnoxious, egotistical attention whore! Which is totally okay. ^^
  7. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say here. Not everyone has to "level" ICly. Particularly for additional classes/jobs, the person may just be leveling them because they're a completionist (something I can totally get behind). But also, it is not uncommon for roleplayers to have a character that is, in game mechanics terms, a particular class, but is not that at all ICly. For example, in TERA one of my main RP characters is a former magitech engineer who was involved in some not so pleasant shenanigans that have basically left her handicapped by pain and a corresponding drug addiction meant to try and deal with that pain. She also happens to be my "main" in game play and when I rolled her, I rolled her as a warrior. The thing is, she is not in any way a warrior ICly. She's not trained in swords at all; she's a civilian who used to be a productive member of society as an engineer but has since become... well, not. (It would take waaaaay to long to explain all the RP I've done with her since launch of the game, so I'll just leave it at that. ) She was given swords once, recently. They were an experiment created by one of our key antagonists in our little plot, and though Ariadne possessed them, she certainly didn't know how to use them aside from swinging one around wildly. So yea, warrior in game mechanics, but definitely not one ICly. And it's not very hard to get people to accept this (especially when you run around RPing without a weapon equipped - no one should be able to "see" your class ICly anyway). On a similar vein, I also often ignore level when it comes to a character's proficiency in a certain discipline - and I'm not the only one. This is usually due to my want to have a particular character concept, but only wanting the character for RP rather than gameplay. So yea, IC class and OOC class are not as clear cut as you might think they are. Regarding the in-game day/night cycle: It's insanely fast. There's no way I'm taking that time as canon.
  8. I wasn't saying ignore the lore that takes place as though it doesn't exist. I was just saying that it's typical for roleplayers to acknowledge that their character is not the specific person doing the quest (especially if it's an important plot point). This true especially for non-combat characters, but even typical "fighter" characters in my experience don't really RP the quest storyline (not ignoring the lore: just not incorporating the quest storyline into their character's story).
  9. IC dungeons can be awesome fun, though sometimes it's inappropriate for some of my characters (a lot of whom tend to be non-combat types, or folk who wouldn't willingly go into a combat situation). However, I think I would be interested in joining a linkshell like this on at least a few of my characters!
  10. To be fair, in my experience it's not common for roleplayers to incorporate quest storyline into their RP in general. So this wouldn't really be an issue.
  11. I'm definitely a supporter of "multi-classing", as you called it, in roleplay. It's something I've done a couple times in RP in previous MMOs, and something my partner has done quite a bit. We do it when it makes sense for a character's story. It can definitely be extremely fun, especially when there's a dichotomy of skill in play (such as a warrior-type character learning magic). I don't think anyone is unnecessarily limiting themselves by keeping a character to one "class", though. Sometimes it's appropriate for a character, and sometimes it isn't.
  12. As an altaholic, I'm quite sure I will fill up all 8 available server slots. It's quite possible I'll even end up with a second account... or three, as I did in TERA... But for now, I've got three characters so far hammered out! Antimony will be my "main". Yes, I know it's not a miqo'te name; it's not her real name, just something she has chosen to go by. Still trying to decide on a last name. She's a widowed, middle-aged accountant who lives in Limsa Lominsa but travels to the other cities on occasion to audit, assess, and shift around clients' possessions and monies. As hobbies, she practices healing and dabbles in the intricate mathematics of arcanery. I think I did a pretty good job at making her look aged. Next up, there is Sah'ot Kith. I've not yet solidified any kind of story for her, save that she is a rather aggressive individual. And lastly, I dabbled in lalafels and came up with Rakuku Raku. She is quite fun and a sneaky sort. That's it for now! :3
  13. Regarding miqo'te cultural history, I have to wonder if many miqo'te who live in cities maintain something of an echo of their historical large family/tribal units. Sharing living space, supporting one another financially, personally, and spiritually, and perhaps even following along similar mating rules. That's really more of an idle thought than anything, as my time spent exploring Gridania, Ul'dah, and Limsa Lominsa didn't reveal much insight into the personal lives of the cities' denizens. However, it's fun to ponder!
  14. I shall apologize ahead of time, as I will likely be doing this again for ARR! Just can't help myself. Spent the last half of this past Saturday roleplaying with friends to start getting a handle on my to-be-primary character and had a blast. :3 This game is positively dripping with awesome world construction and lore. Which means I also have a lot of reading to do...
  15. Hey, ya'll. Totally completely new to Final Fantasy and ARR here, but not at all new to roleplay. I got a beta invite and poked around at a friend's behest, and I'm kind of hooked on this game, primarily due to its RP potential. And that's why I'm here - I'm a crazy dedicated roleplayer, and I'm trying to figure out where all the other roleplayers are in this strange new world! I'm coming here from TERA, where I've been enjoying just about the best RP I've ever had, but I've also roleplayed quite heavily in Aion, Rift, and WoW for a number of years, and in the latter I still assist in moderating the Ravenholdt RP Sanctum. One of my favorite parts about an MMO is the community, so I very much hope to sink my teeth into this one just as much as I have my previous communities. In addition to roleplay, I enjoy science, teaching science, and speaking my mind. Sometimes this can result in an unfortunate singularity, as speaking my mind necessitates a conjoining of the many folds of space and time across innumerable universes. If you happen to get caught up in one of these, please accept my humblest apologies. Life as a trans-dimensional being is hard. I've got one point of confusion, however: I'm not really sure where the roleplayers are! Friends from the TERA RP community directed me to the beta server Gilgamesh, which is where I've been the past several weekends, but I've heard that everyone's actually somewhere else? I don't even know. It's quite confusing. Not that it's a big deal because it's beta, but it would be nice to figure out!
