I'm fairly certain Nael van Darnus was tempered by the primal - basically driven mad with a desire to free Bahamut. He then manipulated the Garlean military into doing just that, claiming that bringing down Dalamud would destroy Bahamut when truly it would free him.

This is the one emote I want to see above all others they may add. I am so tired of not having access to it. @.@

Never too late! @Domos: We can work you in easily. In the interest of trying to keep things simple, K'ahna could be the son of a mating between K'thalen and another female in the tribe - how's that sound?

I'm up for chatting in skype. Add netnau (yes, it's just Naunet mixed up - but it was amusing at the time! Cause "net", "internet", it's an online... okay, I'll shut up ) and just poke me! @Growly: The oryx is one of my favorite desert creatures, so combining with the real world Hipparion to create a Hydaelyn version of one makes me very happy. I can't wait to see what you come up with! I'm also cool with sticking with the idea of the tribe being known for its spear hunting. Hunting features prominently in the backstory of a couple of Anti's kids, and it makes Anti's own distaste/fear for the act a bit more notable. Incidentally, no one should worry that their character has to be skilled at hunting - obviously there are plenty of different roles within a tribe besides hunter!

I'm with FreelanceWizard on this for the most part. If I'm RPing outside of party chat (which is 99% of the time), then it means we want to be heard. However, I will apply a slight caveat to this in that roleplayers wanting to poke into a scene should be aware of the setting currently being RPed. For example, in TERA there is a hall of rooms in one of the main cities (Velika) that a bunch of us have adopted as the go-to location for a friend's character's medical clinic. When we're roleplaying there, we're pretending to be inside a multi-room building; however to an outside observer, it just looks like we're roleplaying out in the open. It's not like we have much choice - there aren't a lot of places in the world where we can pretend to have a clinic. When someone approaches us, we gently and politely let them know where the front door to the clinic is; usually they oblige. But basically the lesson here is to be aware when you want to push into a scene - the RPers you're watching may not be exactly matching the location to the scene they're acting out.

Oh my. I've missed a lot! Thanks for starting a new thread. And doing... so much work! So I spent way too long RPing last night. Woke up a couple hours ago and spent the past couple hours working on this: http://i.imgur.com/dMvJ803.jpg There are some kinks to work out - in addition to wanting pictures of those we don't have pictures of (where possible). First off, K'mira's last name was initially Jira, however that would have meant that there would have been a nunh named K'jira. But in that generation, there are already two nunhs (K'jhanhi and K'fidar). Now, we could fix it as shown in the tree above, by switching K'mira's surname to Jhanhi, so that she was sired by K'jhanhi (therefore, the "K'jira Nunh" character wouldn't exist). Another way to work this is to have either K'mira's dad usurp one of the other nunhs, or have one of the other nunhs usurp K'mira's dad. For example, the theoretical K'jira may have beaten K'jhanhi in a fight, which would have knocked him out of nunh status. Either something like that, or K'jira mated and sired K'mira only to be beaten out by K'jhanhi. In all this, I imagine K'fidar was the nunh who came in to fill the void left by the individual who broke off from the tribe to interbreed with Keepers (far right). In the third tier of generations, we have three nunhs, which seems like a lot for the size of the tribe. K'thalen is dead, but he only died five years ago, which isn't a long enough time for a new nunh to take his place, have kids, and then for those kids to have kids. So something has to have happened further in the past. Now Growly, I'm not sure how attached you are to K'haaz and K'bashir, but I propose that at some point one of these two guys died - perhaps to a sandworm attack, or he got sick, or something - /or/ he lost his nunh status after siring K'maki, K'nuru, and K'miwsher when beaten in combat by K'thalen. Which do you think would make more sense for him? Aside from that, the only question left is really where K'mih, K'nahli, and their parents fit in. [edit] It's missing Domos's character, K'ahna Tia. Uhm. He'd be in the third tier somewhere! *** Okay, so my brain hurts after working on this tree for the past couple hours. I'm going to take a break and then come back to this thread fresh-thoughted.

Oh, that's a thought. The tribes are a pretty ancient custom: So it seems likely that the animals represented in the tribe names - those "totems" - were all creatures found in miqo'te native lands, rather than those found in Eorzea (though there is some overlap). It may also be worthwhile to suggest that members of the tribe may carry tokens or other trinkets, and some clothing or housing materials may be adorned with the image of their totem animal.

Hipparion actually refers to an extinct genus of North American wild horse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hipparion https://www.google.com/search?q=hipparion&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=0o7vUYLvLKGSyQGZooDwCw&ved=0CDoQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=955 Lots of pictures! They're cool animals. This is what I figured we'd do. ^^ Placeholders until/unless someone else comes along wanting to RP as one.
-
Yup! Since I imagine this particular branch of the K tribe is around 20-30 individuals at any given time, they have two nunhs per generation (though there are sometimes shufflings in the ranks, when a tia breaks his way into nunh-dom, or a nunh disgraces himself or whathaveyou).

That is adorable, and yes - impromptu "crashing" of rp scenes can be quite fun (within reason)!

Physical advantages of the races of Eorzia

They're described by an NPC as having ears like deer, whatever that means. Does that mean lalafell can swivel their ears around like deer?? -
I'm sorry - I completely spaced answering this question. Got too distracted constructing family trees and stuff! Anyway, I don't think it's mandatory for any female in the tribe to breed if they don't want to, nor is there a specific age at which they are expected to begin having (or at least thinking about having) children. So your girls are fine!

Might be good to have an LS post on the forum here, with a brief write-up of info on the tribe, such as what we've discussed here, plus the family tree (in progress!). I don't think we need a website, though.
-
Haha, there's so many of us now, this may be a good idea! Though considering how varied the stories are, we may want to consider making it an OOC linkshell used to just organize RP and chat. [edit] What about "Hipparion" for the LS name?
-
A TIA!!! How old is he now, may I ask? Photoshop is what I've been building it in, so don't worry about straining yourself - I've got it! If you want and have them, though, toss me some screenshots of the characters so I can add them in with the names.
-
I think as long as you didn't pick the grey or blue-ish skin tones, you could definitely pass as a blind Seeker (you also may want to be careful with the face markings). If someone gives you a hard time for it OOCly, kindly remind them that your character does not walk around with a giant "Keeper of the Moon" tag on them, so no one should be able to ICly tell the difference.

Oh fantastic, I can fit this in perfectly! K'araqi would be the nunh alongside K'yohko. His father K'haaz would be/have been the nunh sharing the generation with K'thalen (Antimony's mate). And lastly, the mother and father of K'ali Fidar (mate of K'haaz) would have come from the same generation as K'deiki and K'jhanhi. All of that slides right in nice and neat! [edit] This tribe needs tias! D: The poor guys.

Physical advantages of the races of Eorzia

I could definitely see the Duskwight vision being more tuned to catching changes in lighting, rather than picking out details or color or somesuch. Certainly they haven't progressed to the point where vision is completely abandoned, so they're not exactly like, oh, the blind cave salamanders or fish or whathaveyou. Makes me wish the lore had them developing echolocation. That would be hilariously awesome. -
Aaah, so Observe is basically an RNG step that could change the condition (poor, good, etc)? I didn't realize those would change without you doing anything to the gear. Sorry, it wasn't self-explanatory to me. x.x

Regarding the name, I'm pretty attached to the K syllable to be honest. That said, I totally understand your reluctance to change (and the unfortunate sound of K'aqsha!), as names are very personal things. I'd love it if you did switch, but if not, we may be able to come up with another way to intertwine the K and R tribes of the Sagolii desert as far as RP goes. So, we'd be happy to have you, but don't feel pressured, is all I'm saying. I do have skype, if ya'll want to chat in a more real-time setting as suggested. Just add Netnau. As for Wolf's questions... 1. Hunting targets would be based around what's available in the desert. I did some running around in the Sagolii desert in phase 3 and saw, perhaps most notably, a startling abundance of sandworms. I actually incorporated sandworm hunts in part of my character's backstory (tangentially - I mentioned it as something the tribe targets for meat, but they're also very dangerous). I remember there being a couple other distinct types of creatures, but I can't recall their names. Unless someone else can call them up on memory, we may need to wait until phase 4 opens up before we can solidify what exactly they hunt. 2. Children I think would have two options for education: either they strike out on their own to a city to receive formal schooling at an institution, or they stay with the tribe. Education in the tribe is probably handled in a team system, with elders and more experienced adults taking turns with groups of kids to instruct them on various topics. In Antimony's backstory, I mentioned that the huntresses of the tribe would regularly take young children with them on hunts. A similar strategy would be used when teaching them other basic things, including reading and writing, as well as tradecrafts needed by the tribe to support itself. So education wouldn't be the responsibility of a single individual, but rather a whole range of tribe members experienced in a variety of topics. If that makes sense. 3. Oops, see above! 4. I think this would depend on the level of interaction the tribe has with the rest of the world. Obviously there are basic activities of survival - the hunting and gathering of foodstuffs and water, caring for children and sick/elderly, crafting and repairing clothing and weapons and tools and housing materials, etc. I wonder if the tribe has a few, skilled individuals who regularly travel across the desert to more populous towns in Thanalan to trade skillfully crafted items, or materials only found in the desert, or whathaveyou for special foods or trinkets or other luxuries the tribe occasionally enjoys. Maybe? Clearly living a nomadic life in the Sagolii desert means you're not interacting with the outside world a lot, but I think it makes sense that they would be connected in some fashion, likely as merchants, and occasionally as hunters plying their skill on the warfront, to return to their tribe as military heroes (or in body bags). These are just some random thoughts haha. Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I'm playing with it now. I kind of like having the pictures, but this is interesting! [edit] Hmmm it seems to not be very amenable to adding multiple partners to an individual (i.e. a nunh and his multiple mates). Boo.

Actually, if you compare the Duskwight to organisms in the real world that live in caves, eyesight tends to be one of the first things to go - and hearing one of the first senses to improve. There are many cave-dwelling organisms (most notably fish) that actually lose the entire external eye structure. This is because in the darkness of caverns, eyesight really isn't needed, but senses like hearing are useful in telling the difference between an open area and a narrow area, or if refined enough, even the direction that a path is taking and the location of branches off a main tunnel. So yeah, it totally makes sense for Duskwight to have worse vision than Wildwood but significantly better hearing. -
One more question: You said you would talk about the Observe ability when we learn about conditions, but after reading chapter 2, I still don't really understand what this ability does. Can you elaborate?
-
Actually, according to lore, nunhs are very rarely tribe leaders. I was imagining some kind of matriarch position, though that might be more appropriate for Keeper culture. Considering the likely communal raising dynamics within a Seeker tribe (since only a couple guys are mating with a bunch of women), the council thing may be more likely but it could include elder members of the tribe regardless of gender (including supplanted nunhs that are too old to mate, elder females, and elder tias).

Aah okay, so whether or not it's HQ isn't determined until you actually finish the craft, but it could potentially turn out HQ even if you don't fill up the bar. Thanks! This complex crafting is very foreign to me hehe. And thank you for the permission. I will definitely credit you and link back to this original post.

No rush - we have all the time in the world. I look forward to hearing from her! @Khaze'to: Awesome, thank you! I'll get them filled in! It's interesting to have a connection to Keepers in this family (and kind of funny how the K connection carries over in the names), even if it is distant.
