Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
Iron Bride replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
The point about the Aether datacenter is a good one. I think eventually SE may make cross-datacenter possible, but being able to do cross-world RP in parties in the present is better than waiting on future game development to come. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread
Iron Bride replied to BumblingSeaBiscuit's topic in FFXIV News
Yeah I'm not sure I'd agree with the idea of the roleplay community having gotten "too big" as this is the kind of hobby that only gets better with more people. The server itself is having issues with overcrowding, but the reality is that Balmung is not 100% roleplayers. A rather large percentage are roleplayers, for a non-official RP server, but there's still no small amount of people that don't roleplay that might be just as happy someplace else if they didn't have to give up their stuff and pay real life money for the privilege. Balmung as a server could probably really benefit from free transfers off of it, especially with relaxed caps on moving gil and whatnot. I think if this were offered for 3-6 months, the population would probably start to balance out much better. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread

It would be lovely to have a more consolidated "little sister" server for RP here, especially given character slot limitations! I have far more ideas for characters than I do slots, but I'm hesitant to make a character on a server that doesn't have a substantial RP community on it. I actually walked away from FFXIV after playing the free trial once over a year ago, because I didn't know I could pay to transfer into a new-character-locked Balmung, and the only other server that was listed here as having a roleplaying community was Gilgamesh (also locked). So not having a community-designated secondary server actually hurt my willingness to stay with the game in that case. It's possible we could grow the RP community by having another option out there. -

Temporary like the character creation locks that haven't been changed in like...three years? Mmkay. From what I understand, this was done for Heavensward as well. -
Balmung Transfer Restriction Megathread

I've been kind of expecting them to do this for a while, to be honest. It's a sensible move just prior to an expansion. That doesn't mean it sucks any less for the folks that are affected, but I expect it will be temporary. -
Who are the Uragshi? We’re a player-made tribe on Balmung that formed from characters that, for whatever reason, either lost or decidedly left their original tribe. The name “Uragshi” is derived from the Mongolian word for “Forward”, and that is the tribe’s theme - they seek to be forward-thinking and forward-moving, creating new traditions, pushing boundaries, and redefining what it means to be a tribal Xaela that interacts heavily in the wider world. The Uragshi consider themselves to be an Eorzean tribe, and as such, have made their main camp in the west, far from the politics and problems of the steppe. While some would say that means they have given up something that makes them Xaela, the Uragshi would instead counter that it is a return to their nomadic roots to venture out and find new places and ways to live. As a result, Uragshi are generally more cosmopolitan than your average group of Xaela, and additionally, find themselves far more blessed with the use of aether than their cousins back east. These things are gradually changing them to be a unique blend of eastern values and western culture. https://68.media.tumblr.com/0354752630f9134fadebb5fe17c8e44f/tumblr_inline_ou0n72adDw1uisy38_500.png[/img] What is it like to be Uragshi? Because the Uragshi clan was formed in Eorzea, not in Othard, they have some unique challenges and perspectives that are not necessarily found in the lore tribes or even player-made ones. Uragshi are fairly progressive as a whole - they don’t have gender roles, they see LGBT as completely normal to the point of it not even needing mention, and are in fact rather open-minded towards non-Xaela too, seeing them as partners and friends (and even possible clan members, someday). They have a keen interest in the development and refinement of magic schools into something with a distinctly Xaela flair, and they don’t shy away from dabbling in things that might be dangerous or powerful. To be Uragshi is to have one foot firmly planted in tradition with the other taking a step into the odd and unknown. This mindset has some drawbacks. For example, when it comes to steppe roleplay, we play that canon-powerful tribes like the Oronir and Dotharl treat Uragshi with disdain, being little better than scale-less. Uragshi have little standing on the steppe, and often times, have to prove themselves in ways that a Xaela hailing from a more known tribe would not have to. As a small clan, the Uragshi also rely heavily on the friends and alliances they make when they are in the east, knowing full well that without them, the would be quite outnumbered and subjugated without a second thought by a larger, warlike tribe. When they are in Eorzea, though, they see themselves as ambassadors of Xaela culture, tradition, and values, and do not bow to any other clan. They are good neighbors to others, regardless of race or origin, and good stewards of the land around them in La Noscea, protecting it from dangerous beasts and bandits. Limsans generally see them as a harmless enough group, as they are not known to cause trouble and are cooperative, even supportive, of the Maelstrom. Recently, the clan returned to Eorzea after several moons getting back to their roots, so to speak, on the steppe. Since coming back home, they have been building up their Vylbrand camp, raising new yurts and building fences to keep their recently received horses in, which they purchased from the Noykin and had brought back west by sea. They are beginning to reach out again to Eorzeans, and plan to hold a small festival dedicated to the worship of Nhaama and the turning of the seasons. You can read more about us on our tumblr - @the-uragshi is the location of our info pages. You can find more in-depth information about Uragshi values and beliefs, our admission process, clan structure, and more. Note that we are both a linkshell and an FC - if you are looking for an FC, anyone admitted to our LS is welcome to join if you wish! However, there's no pressure to do so. We use the linkshell and discord for communication; the FC is for the purposes of having areas for roleplay - we do not have FC-only events or activities, the LS is welcome to all things.

Kupo!?

I have not a whole lot of helpful things to add to this thread, other than I very much grok your problems, OP! I have dueling mains at the moment (they both get about equal, multiple-times-a-week playtime); the one that fits tavern culture well has an FC and is quite happy, and the one that doesn't, well, doesn't! It's tough going finding the "right" FC, both for character fit and OOC fit, and I wish you luck. ^ Also this is pretty hilarious.

These are 80% IC/inspiration blogs main, and any OOC is FFXIV/roleplay related. (I will not spam your feed with my political opinions and such, I promise, I am just looking to make connections and dork out about RP.) https://dayuuqi.tumblr.com/ Dayuuqi Himaa, Xaela, hostess & artist. Character posts and screenshots, commentary between her and her twin, some signal boosts about FC events, plus lots of inspiration from Mongolia, art, horses, music, and the like.

[Brainstorm][Balmung] Othard Resistance
Iron Bride replied to Yukio Katsuro's topic in RP Discussion
Gonna echo the above- have a character that would be interested, but "resistance fighter" is not exactly her core identity, and as such, she already has an FC that is unrelated to that theme. So an FC, in this case, is of no use to me personally, but maybe others will enjoy it? An LS about this topic would be welcomed, though, if someone decides to take up that effort that would be great! -
This starts soon. If you're interested and not doing anything, drop on by!

So, I have this Xaela character. Her name is Dayuuqi Himaa (and yes, she has a played twin), and I'm not sure where to find other other Xaela roleplayers besides the two of us. Well, yes, okay, I know you can technically find Au Ra just about everywhere, but I was thinking more along the lines of Xaela-specific RP, not just randomly finding a Xaela in a tavern. It can be a tribe setup, or not. It does not have to be a particularly organized group at all, or an LS or FC, though that could be good too. I am more thinking, hey, when I am on Dayuuqi, where should I go if I want to hang out and have super special Xaela times? Dayuuqi and her sister are fairly young adults, sent over to Eorzea a few years ago to keep them safe in case their tribe met a bad end with the Garlean encroachment. Dayuuqi understands Eorzean but her speech is broken or simplistic at times when using it to communicate, being only really fluent in the language of the steppes. She is particularly interested in music and art and dance, finding Eorzea delightfully exotic, and is generally a nice enough person. She can be a little bit ignorant (or even "benign" racist) at times, though, as she tends to look at things from her own foreign perspective instead of adopting a more Eorzean lens for perceiving the world. Anyway, if you got ideas of where and whom I should throw Dayuuqi, shout 'em out. Thanks!

balmung Refugee/Mercenary, looking for RP partners & plots!
Iron Bride replied to Iron Bride's topic in Chronicled Connections
Neat! What is your character like? Yesssss petty crime. So much less messy than the other kind... usually... Consider yourself added to my list! I would very much like to start getting a feel for RP with other Ala Mhigan characters, especially given the expansion. (I did not actually know about Stormblood when I made the character... lol) Let us be Mhigans together. -

Iron Bride replied to Iron Bride's topic in Chronicled Connections
Read through your wiki page, and yeah, I can definitely see where that could be a meeting that could either end up as being friends, or total rivals. Either one is great. Will look you up when the servers come back! -
balmung Refugee/Mercenary, looking for RP partners & plots!
Iron Bride replied to Iron Bride's topic in Chronicled Connections
I will definitely look into this when the servers come back up. I really appreciate your reply, this is exactly the kind of networking information that I'm hoping for. Thanks for the info- as I said, not really looking for a FC right at the moment. Appreciate you looking through my stuff though! -
Hello all! I am a rather new player who is trying to "break into" the RP community here. Everyone seems rather friendly but you know how it is when you're the new person in a crowd. Such that it is, here's my post! I have a wiki page that I've spent a decent amount of time in filling out, but here's the highlights to spare you reading the whole thing up front: - 30 year old Ala Mhigan refugee. - Rough around the edges, and more than a little uneducated, but not a bad guy. - Mercenary-for-hire, mostly around Vylbrand. - Previously a petty criminal, mostly around Ul'dah. - In need of connections of just about every type imaginable I'm looking for: - folks that are around during east/central US evening prime time hours, because those are also my hours. - people that are not afraid to deal with noobs! because I am a noob about this game. My lore knowledge is pretty modest. - LCs, because I do enjoy both IC and OOC chatter. I'm probably looking for IC over OOC but I'd consider either one for networking. - I don't know about a FC yet, because honestly I don't have much to offer - I sit here at level 30 lancer, and yes, that's my highest. - I won't be offended if anyone would prefer to "try out" my RP before wanting me as part of their stories and plots. Anyway (anyroad?) that's that. Let me know if you're interested. The wiki post has a lot more detail if you're into backstories and details and such.

Noob questions, volume 2! 1. Where are some places that people (regardless of LS or FC status) typically hang out to RP? A hotspot, like a particular tavern or market area or hamlet outside of the cities? I'll definitely look around for myself but I'm used to having to "hunt" for RPers in other games, so if I have an idea where to look that would be great. 2. Do most people join both LS and FC? Multiple LS? Anything I should know about the benefits of one over the other? 3. Would the Making Connections forum be the right place to post and advertise myself as LFRoleplay? I'll definitely look through the LS and FC listing for myself but sometimes the right answer comes to you instead of the other way around. 4. Are there a lot of RPers/LS/FC that aren't on this site? Like, is the community even bigger than it appears? (Which is fairly big and lively, just by appearances.)
-
Thank you, that's exactly the kind of information I needed. I already was thinking my character was an Ala Mhigan refugee, but this helps put some perspective to it and give me a timeframe for how old the character needs to be to have it make sense. (Also, explained the curious lack of eyebrows).

Thanks. It's so nice to see an active RP forum for a game If anyone comes across this, got a couple questions. Anything important to know about the setting, timeline, specifics about Highlanders that I might want or need to know? Spoil me if you have to, I would rather make a character "correct" to the setting than worry about experiencing the storyline in a completely unspoiled fashion. Any RP-focused Free Company willing to take on a new player? Or is it a Linkshell I should be looking for? Last time I played this, there were only Linkshells... and they were just chat channels, lol. TL;DR - HALP I AM KIND OF DUMB.

Hello all. I have been putting off playing this game for a year since it seemed that every time I go to make a character, I can't get onto Balmung and MMOs seem lifeless to me without roleplayers. I've finally decided to bite the financial bullet and just transfer in instead, haha. Since I've never gotten very far in the game before I'm pretty much a noob to everything. Right now I'm running a Highlander who is more than a bit of a vagabond. I should be able to transfer him in tomorrow (the 3-day wait will be up) so I can't wait to meet everyone. Nice to meet y'all.
