  1. Family commitments notwithstanding I'll do my level best to be there in some guise or other:)
  2. Better get myself some reading glasses then and some sharp pin-stripe wizard's duds:P
  3. Well I think there could be some fun in playing a corporate lawyer; all that wheeling and dealing, writing up convoluted contracts with the most minute small script available, delicate negotiations, oiling the wheels of industry *cough* etc, etc. So I'll give it a bash if you like:)
  4. This looks really good. I think I'll pop over to the official website - time I threw my wizard's hat into the ring so to speak^^
  5. Looking forward to it so I'll definitely make every effort to be there

Yeah, definitely keep in touch. We're not so much concerned with getting members as we are just people to RP with. So even if your character wouldn't sign up, there is still some fun to be had. Will do - actually, you've given me a bit of an idea. Reckon XI:7 could use a corporate lawyer? Vespino will definitely be the scholarly type wherever he ends up so maybe this could have some legs....hmmm. If not, be good to RP with your lot sometime.

The idea of being part of a sort of Shinra for the good guys, to paraphrase your original post is very very appealing. I'm still deciding where my character will fit into this world but I shall watch this with interest.
  8. Hey there! *offers cake because that's really, really good for you....sort of...*
  9. I wouldn't mind helping with the Traveler's Guide storyline. Sounds like it would be fun. Excellent - I'll put together some ideas I have and message them over to you. We'll see whe we go from there. Thanks for replying
  10. My character will be a mature student at the arcanist guild so he'll be looking for contacts with whom he can discuss matters of the arcane. He's been commissioned to compile a Traveller's Guide to Eorzia by a local Limsa Lominsa publisher so if someone wanted to help with that storyline that would be great. Finally, he fled from Ul'dah pre calamity after destroying his uncle's laboratory during an alchemy experiment that went wrong. Unfortunately his uncle died as a result. Anyone living in the area of the laboratory would remember the incident. He also had a number of friends and family members living in the city that he hasn't seen since he left. Nearly completed my wiki which I will post shortly - that gives a little more background info.
  11. Pre and Post calamity you might have seen Vespino Pino telling stories or reciting poetry in any number of Inns or settlements throughout Eorzia for a hat-ful of coppers or a free drink or two. Post calamity you may have seen Vespino loitering outside the Arcanist's guild in Limsa Lominsa where he has just been admitted as a 'mature' student.
  12. 7/10 I'm not sure about the surname but Zarek has a good strong, honest ring to it. My Lalafell is Vespino Pino
  13. A middle-aged Lalafell enters the chamber, sweeps his surroundings with a suspicious gaze and then takes a seat, glaring at the interviewer.
  14. I was thinking of making my Lalafell a wandering storyteller so I like this idea a lot.
  15. Thanks for clarifying that Jonexe - that goes some way to explaining some things that seemed strange to me. So in other words I can make my character's 'surname' whatever I like as long as it fits in with the general conventions and still be related to someone with a completely different second name. I think I shall still stick with Vespino Pino as I'm now sold on the name but I'm glad that's now been cleared up somewhat^^
  16. Well thanks guys - I'll start creating a back story around the effervesent Vespino then;) And goes without saying I'll be happy to be in the same familial fold as Kadezan - hey, two possible relatives already!
  17. Great stuff Teardrop, thanks for replying. On the merest chance you might be a potential relation I'll start thinking about potential names for my character Hmm, how about Vespino Pino - or does that sound too much like a cheap Italian wine or a scooter...?^^
  18. I'll be creating a character on Gilgamesh as well as Balmung so I definitely look forward to joining this.
  19. Having decided on making Balmung my home come release for my Lalafell, I had just about come up with a background story for my wiki entry and a name (Dromka Zelka) when it occured to me that it might be fun to see if I could dig up some potential family connections - especially since reading that family and bloodlines are important to the Lalafell. I've also decided to change my Lalafell's clan from Plainsfolk to Dunesfolk so a name change more in keeping with that is on the cards so it wouldn't be a problem changing my surname to fit in with any existing family. My character will be a middle-aged, irascible, slightly eccentric Lalafell with a love for the arcane and alchemy. So, are there any existing or planned Lalafell out there who would be interested in creating some family ties?
  20. You know another thing occurs to me after reading this thread. With any luck the community in this game will be a real representation of what a society is really like; diverse ages, different backgrounds and cultures, different ways of looking at things - all wrapped up in a desire to have fun in what promises to be a great game. Roll on August 27th!
  21. Hmmm, time to put age into perspective. I'm 48 and just about to become a grandfather for the first time. I really don't care about growing up - should have done it years ago but it's much too late now. Even my wife has accepted that is never going to happen. Besides, in this day and age it's a positive asset to have a young outlook. After nearly 20 years in IT I've recently had to change career completely - keeping a young outlook helps with that too^^ In terms of creative writing I've had no formal training but have done some forum RP in the past and have just finished writing my first fantasy novel. Fingers crossed I can now find a publisher.
  22. I've finally got my head around the difference between a linkshell and a Free Company - at my age things take a while to sink in *sigh* Anyway, if this does turn out to be a free company I'd be interested in an invite as my planned main, Dromka Zelka will be looking for a suitable business venture to get his teeth into. I'll keep my eyes open;)
  23. Being new to the game I had no idea where to go once the game launches. This debate has decided me. I think Gilgamesh will do just fine but I want to go to an established community so I think I'll head to Balmung.
  24. I. Basic Info Characters:Dromka Zelka Primary character:Dromka Zelka Linkshells:None as yet but will be looking for one once ARR is released Primary RP linkshell:As above and open to offers! [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to heavy RP style. But like a previous poster stated heavy for me is not necessarily synonymous with serious. Dromka is a light-hearted fellow, but it's as true in gaming as it is in real life; you can't expect to be taken seriously until you've first learned to laugh at yourself. He's a philosopher at heart so it's the sort of thing he'd say... Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't have a problem with this as long as it is consensual although the most I would allow my character to lose is perhaps an eye - losing a limb would just be careless. Views on IC romance: Again, no problem - though ERP is not for me. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Very much in favour. I've had some of the best RP experiences with characters that were related to mine, uncles, cousins etc. Be very keen to meet up with some long lost loved ones when I finally get in-game. Views on lore: I suspect I'm the same as most RP'ers in that lore in any game is important to me. I've been playing Final Fantasy games since the 90s so I'm quite familiar with the FF universe and general lore. I'm working my way through the lore for this game and suspect it will colour my characters wiki page once I'm up to speed. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Goes without saying that say chat should always be IC. I can't really comment on linkshell chat as I'm not too familiar with it. I did once belong to a guild in another game where all guild chat was IC and there was a separate chat channel for OOC discussion. I liked that a lot but as I say I'm not too sure how the system works in ARR yet. [*] III.
