C'kayah Polaali Posted April 21, 2015 Share #76 Posted April 21, 2015 I'm fine with an okaysword. As long as it gets the job done. I like my swords in many shapes and sizes, but 'okay' just won't cut it! I'm a fan of bastard swords. But then again, I'm a bastard, so that only fits... Link to comment
Khadan Posted April 21, 2015 Share #77 Posted April 21, 2015 Well they are bigger and cooler! I get what you are saying Verad, but things like these are just fun to talk about. Certainly, but when it becomes a judgment on RP because players are supposed to "see sense" and go back to the more historically efficacious weapon, it becomes less of a fun thing to talk about and starts being an indictment on the people who chose it in spite of the historical use of the weapon. Then when there's the assumption that people made that choice because they're ignorant of the real use of the weapon, and not that they might be choosing based on different criteria, it becomes even less so. Luckily no one suggested that making judgements in RP for people's 'weapon choice' is or should be a thing =P I can see how you'd think that would be the case, but you wrote a very strongly-leaning post consisting of several huge paragraphs that seem to indicate that people picking greatsword or Dark Knight are wrong because reasons. I'm not responsible for your interpretations. Though rather than assuming something is a way you could just ask to gain clarification. It would save these threads from baseless accusations. I'd rather not have people start whispering about "toxic behavior" just because I stated a preference on writing and tropes I don't personally care for. I don't have the time in my day or the energy to sit there and pass judgement on people for how they RP, I can only account for myself. In the end, when we talk in these threads without actually having a source cited from SE about whatever in game topic, or a historical/current source to back up our claims we're all just spouting opinions. Some opinions can be wrong or misinformed, as well, but I'm not the kind of person who is going to pretend that my opinions are somehow law. They're just what I think at the time and are, of course, open to discussion. 2 Link to comment
Iex Posted April 21, 2015 Share #78 Posted April 21, 2015 Now the real question... Will Rocks replace all weapons, and thus improvised weapons and classes replace all other classes. (This nonsense brought to you by the fact about 25% of the successful hits I was able to witness at Grindstone last week... were rocks being thrown and successfully hitting their target.) 111 Posted April 21, 2015 Share #79 Posted April 21, 2015 So, I am cool with people doing whatever, I should add. I wrote a small post before about how FFXIV uses a mishmash of European weapons matched to Japanese views on how they might be used. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11041&pid=168673#pid168673 This is a game where a tiny lalafell can punch a giant robot to death, and where marauders carry axes that weigh more than they do (/Every/ Marauder axe in the game makes no sense from a realistic perspective) I'm happy if people use big swords just because they're cool, without considering the real life implications of a giant sword. However that doesn't mean I don't like talking about said implications. Link to comment

"Throw Stone". It later had a possibility of stunning the enemy. This is how I played 1.0 as a Botanist main. (Like, I seriously had a Highlander who could only do botany. Combat was optional) Link to comment

111 Posted April 22, 2015 Share #83 Posted April 22, 2015 I wrote up a history post explaining the historical usage of two handed swords, feel free to discuss it in there so the thread doesn't get detailed anymore than it has. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11041&pid=173474#pid173474 Link to comment
Mercurias Posted April 27, 2015 Share #84 Posted April 27, 2015 In terms of roleplay, I think a whole lot of players will drop their shields and pick up bigger, heavier swords. Some will be pure weapon users while others will be full dark knights because reasons. This will be incredibly popular at first, and then it will slow down until Ninja is the most popular IC weapon class again because everyone wants to be a nimble murdersassin. Link to comment
