A long Hiatus, a Fresh Start.

Good Afternoon Hydaelyn!

Someone kindly linked this site to me from Reddit after I posed a question about finding roleplay.

I played ARR a couple of years ago, but I'd say only for a month or two, and only found snippets of roleplay here and there. I've come back now, and seeing as I was gone so long I made a new character.

I saw that 'Moogle' seemed to be the unofficial EU rp server, but now I'm seeing Balmung and Gilgamesh? Moogle was full up sadly...so I joined Siren v_v

I am in the UK and also play during GMT hours.

Is there anyone around on Siren who would like to engage in rp, or should I really try and head over to one of those servers?

Time-appropriate salutations! :3

Gilgamesh and (especially) Balmung are far more active RP-wise, though I can't speak for Siren directly, since I never actually logged into that server. I should perhaps have not replied, then, because this post is now becoming increasingly unhelpful and I should try again.

Ahem.

Time-appropriate salutations! :3

While I'm not sure about Siren, I'm sure someone else will offer their insight. The best I can do is to at least welcome you to the RPC. Here's hoping we get to interact in some forum RP here sometime soon! ^^

...yea, that was WAY better. Heh. Way to go, Steel.

A very big welcome to HRC! It's great to see another EU member here.

I can't speak for Siren either, but -

Oh. I've just refreshed the thread and read Steel's post. Sadly I do not think this post is going to be any more helpful!

I moved to Balmung for the roleplay, and haven't regret it. There is usually roleplay going on at all times of day, and although the majority are US players the EU population is slowly growing. There are more events at EU-friendly times, as well as EU based Free Companies and Linkshells. So if you do chose to move, I highly recommend coming here! :)

Perhaps it's worth looking around Siren a bit more to see if there is anything? Hopefully someone will be able to be more helpful than I. If you haven't checked already, the Siren thread on the official forums might be worth going through, or shouting out in any populated cities asking for a roleplay FC.

If you chose to come to Balmung, it's also locked most of the time because it's a Legacy server. However, I've noticed it open most days over the past few weeks from 10:00am - 1:30pm UK time. It might be open earlier even, but it's usually closed by 2pm. :)

Edit: I'm sorry this post is one massive ramble, I woke up 30 minutes ago and my brain isn't quite functioning yet. :D

Well there's good news and bad news on that front, I'm afraid.

The good news is that Balmung has a significantly more open and robust RP community, with people IC or doing RP stuffs or gobs of events happening all over the damned place.

The bad news...is that its pretty much at absolute cap for availability, unless you can either pay for a transfer over or chip in during downtime.

To that point, there is this thread right here which gives alerts of when Balmung is available for new charrie creation.

Also bear in mind that this advice carries a reasonably high rate of bias, since I'm also on Balmung and love it dearly.

Hope this helps! <3

So what do you mean by 'locked'. As in, there are too many people in the world and it doesn't allow you in?

Sorry to sound so noob but...well yeah. Treat me like a noob even though I have played before.

And to 'move' a character, what would that entail? Would it be easier just to make a new one and start from scratch on one of the rp servers?

Pardon my own derp, I wasn't sure how unfamiliar you were with the process. xD Allow me to elaborate.

"Locked" here means that, yes, the population has reached a certain threshold that the server will not allow one to make a new character at any time. However, because Squeenix has servers that run on chaos principle (or perhaps very drunk ferrets in wheels), they do allow you to create a new character at the lowest possible points of consecutive logins--specifically, just before or just after scheduled maintenance.

This, of course, would require one to make a brand new character in order for this method to work, so be sure to have some character creation data saved if you haven't already to expedite the process.

As far as "moving", that's an Optional Service offered at cost by the Mog Station. I'm not sure of the cost in your location's currency of choice, but that obviously would be visible through the Mog Station. I believe that there's a time limit on when one can request a paid transfer--something like one week after you made your character. I imagine that's on the details of the transfer page itself or someone reading this thread can confirm.

Again, if you have any questions--no matter how noobish--please feel free to ask.

The lock is much easier for us European players to work around, because it's usually open in the morning and early afternoon (when most US players are asleep). When you go on the character creator you'll see it will either be faded out like Moogle was when you tried to join, or available. :)

It mostly seems to open 10:00am - 1:30pm. It might be open earlier, but I've never checked and can't confirm that. I created a character a couple of weeks ago at 10:45am ish.

As Steel mentioned, there's an option to pay as well, if my memory is correct it's somewhere around £11.

It's always a snap to create a new character after maintenance too. The next maintenance ends at 10 am BST on Tuesday.

Hope you manage to get onto Balmung! As the others have said, there's a thriving EU community here - check out the European Directory for events, linkshells and FCs friendly to our timezone. Welcome to the RPC! :D

One additional trick to getting on the server is to create your character data well ahead of time (with names and the like figured out beforehand), and then either immediately before or immediately after server maintenance you are almost guaranteed to be able to slip in.

Hope you get in soon, and welcome to the RPC!

*Pushes open the TARDIS door* Siren, you say?

This is news to me, but I've heard many a movement in small ways attempting to promote RP across various worlds and I try to pop in to each of them. Last I heard, in the summer of last year, Odin was where some attempted to set their flag for a less congested, unofficial RP server. There are small RP FCs on Sarganatas, Jenova, and many others, but this is a first I'd heard of Siren hosting RPers. I may have to check that out.

However, as has been pointed out, Balmung is where it's at. Tis the bee's knees, if you will. Gilgamesh (affectionately known as Uncle Greg) is the other RP world most notable at this time. Both host EU RPers.

As for the lockout, it's a sad state of affairs and the others have given the most sound advice that can be given. Your safest bet is to pre-design your character, save it, and wait for after-patch then go, go, go.

It can be daunting, but do not give up hope.

See you in game soon.

Ha! Now you're forced to have a kitty companion!

No, I'm not so sure there IS rp on Siren...but I'm in Balmung now! Feel free to add me if you'd like! Merai Valdis.
