Steel Wolf Posted May 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2015 Requisite "If this thread is in the wrong forum please relocate it" primer. Okay, so I been thinking (a dangerous pastime, I know)...we've got lots of drinking-style events. GOBS of "hang out" RP events. Fair amount of combat-related events...but the crafters don't seem to get a whole lotta lovin', especially in an RP space. So what I was thinking is...how interested would people be in a flea market event? When I say flea market, I mean legitimate--crafted outfits, weapons, furniture for in-game gil sale, done in-character entirely. Buyers and sellers would all have to be willing to haggle within reason for prices, and wares would have to be ready on-site and ready for instant sale. That means no IOUs or no "Wait here while I get the mats" trades. I'm open to ideas, suggestions, thoughts, yeas, nays or other relevant responses. Link to comment
LiadansWhisper Posted May 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 3, 2015 That does sound like fun. Where did you have in mind to have it? Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted May 3, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted May 3, 2015 I'm...not entirely sure. The best place I could think up off the top of my head would be the large round area near the docks and the Rogue's Guild door at Limsa Lominsa--large enough area for people to maneuver around while being enough out of the way of standard traffic through the Aetheryte Plaza and Hawker's Alley. Cliodhna Eoghan Posted May 3, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 3, 2015 clio's a shopper but i never get to rp it out, do this and i'll totes show up! (loots of nq gear for glamours....hint hint) Link to comment
Aris Posted May 3, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2015 I'm not sure if I'd be able to participate at first as I'm still pretty nervous and hoping to build up to big events , but if it would be a regular thing I'd definitely be interested in the future My character Nara works at a smithy, and would be interested in selling her wares and getting her brand out there. OOCly, hopefully it would be a way to find some long term RP and jobs. So yep, 100% behind this! It would be a nice, different, environment to socialise in as well. Could also have people street performing if they wanted to, or fortune tellers with their own stall, and that sort of thing? Link to comment
Yoshi Posted May 3, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 3, 2015 I love this idea, Wolf! I'm certainly a 'yea' over here! *Waggles arms* I also second the idea of making this a regular occurrence, if others can fit it in between schedules. Having said that~ my character isn't really a craftswoman, but I would very much like to participate - events such as balls and what-have-you *Throws sparkles for lazy description* are totally attractive and fantastic to my mind, but not so suitable for my lady... yet. :ninja: This sort of atmosphere is much more her style, and fancy. Mm... Perhaps I'll harvest some botanical goods and sell those as sort of holistic remedies... at low, low, competitive prices! ;3 Link to comment
Michikyou Posted May 3, 2015 Share #8 Posted May 3, 2015 I ran one a while ago - but you'll be needing people to sign up as crafters and such. Reach out to FC's and trading company linkshells. waiting for signups is the hard part. Link to comment
ChewableMorphine Posted May 3, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 3, 2015 I'd probably peddle untradable dyes. I'd be into it. Link to comment

There's more than a few RP'ers who are already working the Tarot angle with the Astrologian...great idea, Aris! I ran one a while ago - but you'll be needing people to sign up as crafters and such. Reach out to FC's and trading company linkshells. waiting for signups is the hard part. Yea, I imagine the actual set-up would probably be the longest. That's why I was posting this thread to see how much reaction it'd get, especially from sellers. If you're not against it, I'd like to pick your brain for ideas and assistance, seeing as how you've formed an event like this before. <3 Link to comment

Aya Posted May 4, 2015 Share #12 Posted May 4, 2015 That would be fun Does it strictly have to be for in-game gil and items? Link to comment
Siha Posted May 4, 2015 Share #13 Posted May 4, 2015 I'd definitely wander around one of these! IC markets have always seemed like they'd be a very fun thing to go to, and I've had some good experiences with a few, though I've never been to one on XIV before. Link to comment

ShoggMommy Posted May 4, 2015 Share #19 Posted May 4, 2015 Well all sorts of crafts and items exist that aren't in game items ...good point! Yea, I don't see why not! I'd be very careful with this. As SE already doesn't allow Gil-for-art, etc stuff like that. But I could be reading this incorrectly- and could be randomly rp items but it's something to mention. Either way if it is a 'tangible/digital' item outside of the game, they might not be too happy with it. This as an aside, I think this is a neat idea. Link to comment

Oh, no I should clarify, if the items in question are invisible or not created in-game then the transaction would be completely IC with no real money or gil exchanged in that case. Thank you for bringing up that point! :3 Link to comment
Nebbs Posted May 4, 2015 Share #21 Posted May 4, 2015 Yes to the in game IC stuff. I think if you can base it around the crafts and add in other things it could be quite rich. I know from organising large scale RL LARP events there are a few things that help. Crafts (as you already have) The Food & Drink tent or vendors Performing folks (think buskers & street theatre) Unsavories - the robbers and pick pockets Local tours - take people off on a walk or some excitement Attractions - slides, games etc.. Depends if you want this to be an all day thing or an hour. I'm would try and make this event even if it were crafters As for locations, try the Golden or Silver Bazaars Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted May 4, 2015 Author Share #22 Posted May 4, 2015 I love the idea of having more than just crafts, though selling stuff should be the primary focus. Obviously making it something of a faire/festival would make sense. ...the games thing, I'm not sure how that'd work. I mean, rides and slides I have a hard time pulling together. The best "carnival" thing I can come up with is having a target game, where people have to hit a specified /random number threshold (say, roll higher than 700) to win a prize/dunk a Lalafell... Hmm...*chin rubby* Link to comment

Aris Posted May 4, 2015 Share #24 Posted May 4, 2015 dunk a Lalafell... https://41.media.tumblr.com/b97587cfae3a5f96154448daddfbc201/tumblr_nntsw9ICL31tkrc5po1_500.png[/img] These ideas are more for a fete than a flea market, but.. Raffle with /random Prizes could be a food and drink hamper provided by a local crafter, special prize item from each stall, free drinks/tickets at another event, certain furniture items, certain toy like minions e.g. nana bear if anyone could craft is cheaply If it was near a fishing area, catch the biggest fish Chocobo races (ICly chocobos are provided but OOC you'd ride your own) If there are any IC photographers they could take photos Mind you, all my ideas are vaguely inspired by the primary school fetes I've volunteered at so probably aren't very suitable for Eorzea haha. Regardless whether this is to be a flea market or a fete, as seen at the summit yesterday there are many Free Companies with crafters so I'm sure with lots of advertising it could get lots of sellers. A fete would be too much to arrange regularly, but for a one off thing it could be a bit of fun. To have a regular flea market would be amazing if other sellers got in on it. ;u; I'm rambling and going overboard. So many ideas! It's nice to see crafters get some love. \o/ 1 Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted May 4, 2015 Author Share #25 Posted May 4, 2015 I think I'd like to keep it (reasonably) compact so as to avoid it turning into an unmanageable beast of a thing...though I do love those carnival game ideas. Perhaps someone who wants to run a fete can run with them. :3 So, there were lots of crafters at the summit eh...mmmmh...good to know... My mind now turns to timing. Of those reading this--especially potential sellers: what would be the best time to tie this down? Link to comment
