Flashhelix Posted June 8, 2015 Share #51 Posted June 8, 2015 People need to use common sense, unless there's a magical field around Eorzea that somehow makes a scythe a viable weapon, then it's not a viable weapon, and this is supported by the fact we only see them in use by voidsent up to and including voidsent KINGS like Ferdiad who probably could use any makeshift weapon well because they're demons. This isn't XI. Link to comment
Aaron Posted June 8, 2015 Share #52 Posted June 8, 2015 Every single player character can. No, the WoL can. Tataru can't. In this world called XIV every PC is the WoL and can be anything. Not everyone as in everyone in the universe. don't really want you to do anything. I don't know you. Then stop assuming I'm trying to be cool or distasteful. If anything I hold no negative emotions to anyone who came at me. Just trying to let you apparently do what you do. This is not FFXI. Vana'Diel is not Eorzea. The same lore generally follows. XI is not so radically different from XIV that a guy can't walk around with a scythe weapon. Its really that simple. But it doesn't? It's two separate worlds and two separate games. If you think scythes are a viable weapon, it's up to you to explain in roleplay why the countless obvious weaknesses are not there, instead of just saying "it's pretendyland" and expecting them to be glossed over. Sorry, was really referring to the characters and recurrningthemes. But i cant explain the dumb logic of a lot of things in XIV. Like how a Monks fists can out damage a WAR throwing a big ass Axe at you. Or how Garleans had giant ships that could combat Midsgardsormr but didn't have a bomb that could have nuked Eorzean forces and be done with it. Or how the derplander got shot in the face and all it did was knock his helmet off. If you solo out one thing, gotta acknowledge all the others. Link to comment
Grott Posted June 8, 2015 Share #53 Posted June 8, 2015 Because everyone in the game is on equal physical and mental planes with one another just want to hone in on this bit. It is incorrect, as ascertained through the THM questline. here are people who are physically/mentaly incapable of casting THM magic. As to what I want? gimme my rapier! By "everyone in the game" I am referring to player characters. I'm pretty sure I can level THM on all of my characters. The THM quest can say "some people can't do it!" all they want, but every time I've walked into that building they've handed me a quest called "So You Want to be a Thaumaturge" and given me access to their abilities without question... so... Idk, make of it what you want. Also, doesn't change the physical attributes of the characters in the game, nor does it justify something about scythes. I don't even remember how this relates to the dumb scythe argument anymore. Also, yes, rapier. Good choice. Link to comment

111 Posted June 8, 2015 Share #55 Posted June 8, 2015 Can we still talk about Scythes? Because I had a good pun ready about mowing your enemies down like grass. It would be a shame if I couldn't use it. Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted June 8, 2015 Share #56 Posted June 8, 2015 1.0 had a Musketeer's guild but a Gunner class was never implemented. We know, we were there. Machinist is what we've got instead, re-using assets that were probably for the aforementioned "gunner". Anyway, more bits in order to keep things chugging on topic: I would like another layer for some kind of weather-prep garment. A cloak, a shawl. A /hood/. Let's just go with hoods. Why is a hood/mantle not a thing I can make and equip? This... With this mouth cover.... Dyeable with a /visor option as seen in the trailer, wearing thw same cloak but with thw hood down as he thinks about the bad shit happening and punches a pillar. Link to comment
Zoetrooper Posted June 8, 2015 Share #57 Posted June 8, 2015 *snerk* It's still valid as a weapon that could be introduced so I see no reason why not, just make sure it doesn't get out of hand again and people's feelings get hurt. Probably moving the whole chat forward is more prudent. I think we have moved past the scythe argument. Link to comment
Aaron Posted June 8, 2015 Share #58 Posted June 8, 2015 All I did was answer the op If you could introduce a certain prop or piece of gear... what would it be? Id like Kusarigama too tho. And yes I know how those work. Link to comment

Aduu Avagnar Posted June 8, 2015 Share #60 Posted June 8, 2015 All I did was answer the op If you could introduce a certain prop or piece of gear... what would it be? You then got drawn into a protacted argument over that piece of gear, but that is besides the point. Anything else you want in? Also, have to agree with Erik, I've been wanting a /visor for litterally anything with a hood, cowls I'm looking at you, since I started playing. Link to comment

That's fair enough, everyone should be nice to each other about scythes... because you reap what you sow. Ok I'll stop. I don't think I can harvest any more puns from Scythes. Link to comment

Im playing it, animoo or whatever you want to call it or not. If you don't like it. I wish you well in whatever class you do play. 1 Link to comment

The contention was never that you wouldn't/couldn't play it. I don't care what you like. I have no sway over what you like. It's not really in line with the setting, and it doesn't have any practical value. Your original assertion was that it did, on both counts. You're wrong about that. You can't be wrong about liking things, though. So, that's cool. Edit: Also, if you weren't going to reply, you shouldn't have replied. Mod Note: User was warned for this post. Section 4, Attitude. Scythes are a major tradition in many works of fantasy, and as was posted earlier, were often improvised weapons. I think Scythes would be pretty cool. As for a weapon I want to see, nets would be fun. Link to comment
Viola Posted June 8, 2015 Share #66 Posted June 8, 2015 Second post of page 5, War Scythes were more or less like polearms (IE Halberds and poleaxes) than the traditional wheat cutter. While I admit Scythes are not only awesome due to how they look (and the physical mechanics in using one), but as a weapon, you're better off using a Fauchard or a spear. However, despite being impractical, they are pretty cool. Link to comment

There are others who take issue with the former, but those people don't need to play with me. I wouldn't be surprised if the machinist had some sort of wacky net gun as a Heavy ability. Some sort of negative status effect will be in order. Link to comment

Rakoh Posted June 8, 2015 Share #73 Posted June 8, 2015 Actually the cudgels make sense for a rich UlDahn. It's an elegant and fancy looking weapon with the gemstones needed to use it as a casting focus. Of course, real filthy rich Ul'Dahns hire someone else to get blood on them for them. Link to comment
