Warren Castille Posted December 10, 2015 Author Share #26 Posted December 10, 2015 I appreciate the sentiment behind not wanting to support any -further- development by not purchasing anymore DLC/skins/whatever than what you already have... but you already own the core game... and aside from the free content they push out (such as those annoying SWAT vans with the turrets) that is content you own and can continue to play and enjoy without supporting OVERKILL. I mean, if you're done with the game and truly not getting anymore enjoyment out of it, then by all means uninstalling and all is fine. I just don't understand the "I don't support what you're doing, so I'm uninstalling your game that I fully own and no longer pay for!" They already have your money for that... keep playing it. I know I will. *shrug* I get what you're saying, but we also know that Overkill cares about their metrics. There's a reason that they display "Heisters online" when you go to a lobby and they've done things in the past trying to get concurrent users to spike at specific times, or accomplish specific things: Every part of Crimefest this year was group-based meta-unlocks where the community needed to steal X million dollars or kill X million cops or the real funny one, have 30k people online at once. That one went almost uncompleted until the end of the party, and even then it took a mass get-together by Overkill themselves to pull it off, because they don't have 30k users at any point otherwise. I don't want to be a part of their metrics. Same reason my free safes will never be opened, either. I understand it's not going to accomplish anything, but the game has been soured for me a lot. It sucks. Don't trust crowdfunding. Don't pay for DLC or cash shop items. Don't shell out cash for expansions that should have been part of the core game. Voila, follow these three easy steps and you are on your way to helping make a difference in the video game industry. Vote. With. Your. Wallet. Signed, Someone Whose Last Major Purchase Outside of MMOs was Dark Souls. The problem here was that Overkill was doing just fine for two years and then decided to cash out on their playerbase. No one could have known it was coming, and they specifically said they vehemently opposed the process at launch. We had no reason to not believe them! I don't know, this year didn't seem too bad. I had a lot of fun with Undertale, Fallout 4, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Well, that's pretty much it. I'm mostly looking forward to summer next year when Overwatch is supposed to come out. September, November, November. Did you play anything from the other three quarters of the year? (This sounds way snarkier than I'm intending, this isn't a hostile or sarcastic question!) I did have some fun with Mad Max, but that game really does its damndest to remind you HEY, THIS IS A VIDEO GAME, HOLD Y TO DO A THING for the entire runtime. I did play a lot of stuff on my 3DS this year, so there's that. I don't know how much of it came out in 2015 though. Link to comment
Virella Posted December 10, 2015 Share #27 Posted December 10, 2015 Oh yeah, Overkill really pulled an asshole move onto us all. They were bro-tier people, and look at them now. Link to comment

I did play the Witcher 3 (I think that came out this year) and a handful of minor indie games. Other than that, I think there may have been a few others but I can't think of them at the moment. Edit: I remembered Bloodborne. That game is amazing in my opinion. Link to comment
Teadrinker Posted December 10, 2015 Share #29 Posted December 10, 2015 I'm just over here being the only person who dislikes the Witcher series. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted December 10, 2015 Share #30 Posted December 10, 2015 2015 was a year for pessimistic people like me to thrive. I didn't spend money on one thing that I ended up not liking, possibly because I avoided the hype, and as such, got informed by reviews of those products before I went out and dropped money on them. The vast amount of my money ultimately went to Indie projects, not the AAA Industry. I'm a proud member of "House Biscuit"; I refuse to pre-order anything because of all the strings attached. Warren Castille Posted December 11, 2015 Author Share #32 Posted December 11, 2015 Warren, Please rephrase this using the names of wrestling moves. ~Aya I've been thinking about this. I can't do it in wrestling moves, but I can do it in wrestling storylines! Overkill is basically Seth Rollins. We had a pretty good thing going on with the Shield Payday 2, and everyone was happy. Winning awards, extremely successful when compared to other groups. But then, Rollins decided he could do better. He didn't need to stand by his words anymore, so he sold out. Smashed their fans in the back with a steel chair (available for 5.99 or your regional equivalent) and decided that money was better than loyalty or integrity. As such, the betrayed have gone on a tear to try and destroy their betrayer. We'll, uh, get back to you on that. Tripwire is like Daniel Bryan. See, Tripwire had a really successful game in Killing Floor, and Red Orchestra's got a pretty dedicated fanbase to boot. These were basically the Bryan Danielson days, but then he got brought up to the big leagues. PS4 launch? You got it. Coverage across E3 and all sorts of gaming blogs? Right on. Killing Floor got some criticism for the DLC practices and things that didn't seem necessary, but hey, it was a quality game. People loved it. It was successful. And then we got Killing Floor 2, and... Our champion went out injured. It was a B+, at best, when Early Access arrived, but playing it pointed out there wasn't anything there. All hope wasn't lost, though! There were updates, and it seemed like we had the true shapings of a second run on our hands... And then it went out injured again. Cash shop added. Hopes dashed. We might never see Killing Floor wrestle again. A dark day. Fallout 4 is similar to The Ryback. Big, lacking depth, clearly unpolished and has a tendency to accidentally break things when it's running. Should probably have been kept in NXT to finish bug fixing before being shoved down our throats as the best thing ever. Star Citizen is CM Punk. You'll never fucking see it again. (Mostly kidding about this one.) 1 Link to comment
Dravus Posted December 11, 2015 Share #33 Posted December 11, 2015 I've been fairly satisfied with the purchases that I've made this year: - Bloodborne - The Witcher 3 - Fallout 4 - FFXIV: Heavensward I do, however, miss the days of the PS1 and PS2 era where I could literally purchase a new RPG every month. It seems like there's so few RPG's being released these days - at least here in Europe. Link to comment
Warren Castille Posted December 11, 2015 Author Share #34 Posted December 11, 2015 No, it feels that way everywhere I think, except maybe Japan? Here's a list of every game released in 2015. I'm going to look through and see how many I actually played. Link to comment
Warren Castille Posted December 11, 2015 Author Share #35 Posted December 11, 2015 Resident Evil HD Remaster The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Hand of Fate Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Splatoon Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Mad Max Undertale Rock Band 4 Call of Duty: Black Ops III I've beaten one of those games. The list is missing some stuff, I think, but it's a good snapshot of things that got released. Link to comment
Dravus Posted December 11, 2015 Share #36 Posted December 11, 2015 I almost forgot about the Resident Evil HD Remaster. That hit me with a pretty hefty dose of nostalgia - but I'm more excited about the second game getting the same treatment since a zombie infested city is more creepy to me than a secluded mansion. Type-0's PS4 release was a great purchase in my eyes too - I bought it on a whim (admittedly because it had 'Final Fantasy' in the title and I liked it well enough. Great music and hilariously enough many of the characters looked like different variations of Graeham. >_> Link to comment
Lyse Falen Posted December 11, 2015 Share #37 Posted December 11, 2015 I tend to play games well after their initial release for the most part so I don't end up suffering this disappointing release thing as much. But let's be honest, mostly I'm waiting for Mother 4 to be finished and screw all over games. (that being said, I'm enjoying playing the 3ds Xenoblade at this point, and going back to play older games like Suikoden V. I'm weird.) Link to comment
Erah'sae Posted December 11, 2015 Share #38 Posted December 11, 2015 2015 was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I got Homeworld's remastered edition. The single player was great, the multiplayer port... well... I never really got it to work right. My sense of Nostalgia was pleased. Elite Dangerous has continued to please. For all the games that say "This game looks awesome" I think the best thing I can say about Elite, is it sounds amazing. The audio really cinches the immersion. So many little nuances from the stressing of the hull when you try and flip the ships about to the pleasant k-thunk of the ship being released from the landing pad. As someone who played the old wireframe version of the game in ages past, this has amazed me on a fundamental level. EvE Online is a constant bit of background gaming. I mostly just log in for my radio shows these days. And, well, I was also directed to FFXIV this year. It may or may not have sucked all my other available gaming time away. Link to comment
