Just joining the game

Hello everyone

 

I'm just joining the game. I have a long RP history in MMOs, tabletop groups, friends on IM services, etc... it goes way back. I'm currently doing some lore research for my character to develop her before I decide for certain what to roll. I think I'm going with a Keeper of the Moon and am interested in more tribal-oriented rp, but that's flexible. I could go another direction entirely, if it was a good story.

 

My issue is... what server do I join?

 

It seems like everyone posting here is on the same 2-3 servers, none of which are accepting new characters.

 

Any advice for someone on how to set themselves up correctly in the community? How do I get where the action is?

Of the main RP servers Balmung is currently completely closed, which leave either Mateus or Omega (for Euro players).

Both Mateus and Omega do accept new characters, but they may be close for character creation during the busiest prime time hours.

Try creating a character during off-peak time - then there should be little problem making a character there.

 

For both Mateus and Omega you will want to join their respective Discord servers as that is where most discussions and announcements happen.

You should be able to find invite links elsewhere on this site.

I'm not a euro player, I'm eastern USA. Is this going to make it difficult to coordinate RP on Mateus or Omega? Or are a lot of the NA RP community people overflowing there?

Mateus is for NA, Omega is for EU. So Mateus should be fairly easy to coordinate since you're in the US of A.

My advice is not to worry over trying to coordinate your life schedule around narrow "the server is open to making new characters" windows. 

 

Instead, for $10 you can transfer up to an entire server load of 8 characters at once, from any server on a given datacenter to any other server on that datacenter. There's a few basic requirements for transfer, which I don't remember precisely - but if you go to the character transfer section on Mog Station it'll tell you. Anyway, that'd be what I'd do. Make characters, transfer them in a batch (since it's the same flat-fee whether you do one character or 8 characters, you may as well do 8, even if you only even RP one of them you can use the other ones for storage mules or something).

 

There's punch and pie on Balmung, also.

The window for creating characters isn't all that narrow on either Mateus or Omega.  In fact I'd say they are both open more hours per day than they are closed.

So no need to waste money just to get a new character into either of those servers. 

 

As for Balmung, it is nice and all, but it is CLOSED until further notice.  No character creation on Balmung, no character transfers to Balmung.

Thanks for the advice, everyone I made my Miqo'te on Mateus, and if I'm not finding what I'm looking for I will buy a transfer to Balmung. I look forward to meeting people! The game is really fun so far. I've been playing ESO for the last two years and I was just getting really burnt out on it. It'll be nice to have a change!

Incorrect! Transfers to Balmung are open. I don't have any available slots to check this myself, but I've been told this by several sources.

If you're unable to get on Balmung or Mateus, but you don't mind waiting long-term, then you can go to Brynhildr, Coeurl, Diablos, Goblin, Malboro, or Zalera.

 

Crossworld visits are turning on in a few months sometime around patch 4.5-5.0, making all of the soon-to-be Crystal datacenter viable for RP.

 

Until then, back-and-forth forum writing with other people can be an alternative and good practice.

That is very strange since it is an officially congested server which means you are not supposed to be able to transfer there, and indeed it is not possible to select it as a destination in the transfer service.

Balmung was open for quite a while, but was declared congested again on Nov. 6.

It's okay I got on Mateus and I see random RP going on in Girdania quite frequently! I'm sure I can find a niche somewhere. I may draw a few friends over with me, as well.

You know, you're right. They must've transferred before that. I had somebody in my FC check just now because I don't want to give out incorrect advice, and sure enough, transfers onto Balmung are locked again. Sorry about that!
