New to FFXIV and wanting to RP

Hello,

 

I'm just starting FFXIV and I'm wanting to play on an RP-Centric or more RP-Populated server. I know Mateus/Balmung(sp on both) are the gold standard, but they seem to be full and/or closed(?). I've heard Jenova may have some RPers in it but before I get too into my character I wanted to see what the good server alternatives are to Mateus/Balmung for RPing purposes? My char will be either a Black Mage/White mage after going up from the base (thaum/conjurer I believe) if that matters at all.

Also I do have another char on this server, I'm asking more before I do anything as I'll need to reroll into the character I want. 

 

BTW. I understand linkshells are a thing but I'm not familiar with them (this is my first mmo too). What are good linkshells for RPing, how do I associate my account (or is it by character?) to a linkshell, and are linkshells server dependent or no?

 

EDIT 2: I've been looking around since I originally posted and there were guides to linkshells but it looks like they just link back to the main forum page. Also a positive is I did find Gilgamesh, Omega, Jenova and potentially Adamantoise are possible alternatives. However, I also saw a post about how the 'Crystal' world will be the new RP oriented servers and none of those four are on the list that I saw (link here: 

 

So I guess my question is if I do join one of those four, am I pretty much stuck? Would I be better served to join a server like Goblin/Marlboro that are going to be part of the Crystal world?

Judging by the new server clustering and with the server visits opening up, if you usually play during NA peak times I believe remaining on a world that will become part of the Crystal data center is your best bet since Mateus and Balmung are currently the two biggest RP populated ones and will be available for visit within Crystal. Omega, although to my knowledge the most RP populated EU world, is in the EU data center so will be left out of those NA servers aggregation.

Since others have started answering the other questions, I'll grab this technical one. Old links to our previous forum have been disabled and just go to the main page now. (We kept up access for a year to allow people to migrate stuff over that may not have gotten converted correctly). 

 

At this time, we've got two sections where people can post Linkshell/Free Company information, the "Hall" forums and in the Clubs sections. There are some basic filters for each to better help you find content by server!
