Varus Posted July 4, 2013 Share #51 Posted July 4, 2013 I was in the "not sure if want" group before I saw this GIF. I have been swayed. Well played sir. (And if nothing else, the weapons look bad ass!) THE POWER OF EPIK IMAGERY CANNOT BE DENIED. Epik with a K. I'm waiting for a chance to use my other Lightning themed Deal With It GIF. Give me an excuse!!! Link to comment
Nel Celestine Posted July 4, 2013 Share #52 Posted July 4, 2013 And to all the haters I say: It's not a matter of hating really, it's a matter of not wanting to mix the XIV settings with other settings so casually. This also opens the door RP wise for people to play characters from just about any setting they want to, something a lot of us are not too fond of. The Crystal Tower is supposed to have elements from other Final Fantasy games right? I'm hoping that they approach this smartly and implement it in a similar fashion to how Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V consistently shows up in other Final Fantasy games. In Final Fantasy V there was something called The Void, it served as a space between dimensions, during the events of Final Fantasy V Gilgamesh is banished to The Void, and it's generally speculated that this is the reason he shows up in other Final Fantasy games. In XII for example he's a special Elite Mark boss fight, during this battle you can see that he's wielding Squall's Revolver gunblade, Tidus's Brotherhood sword, and Cloud's Buster sword. If they handle Lighting in a similar fashion, and not as a different version of her hanging out in Garlemard or whatever, I'll be cool with it. Thank you, at least someone ELSE knows what I was referring to. Link to comment

Orlog Posted July 4, 2013 Share #54 Posted July 4, 2013 Ahh, I want Vanille's... everything? Her staff, her clothes. I really hope they end up putting the whole cast's outfits in the game, 'cause that'd be really awesome! I'll probably end up collecting 'em all. And, I've gotta admit, I'm not at all bothered by this cross dimensional shit going on. It's definitely not the first time it's happened within a Final Fantasy series and sure as hell won't be the last. Plus, who's upset about getting access to neat looking weapons? Link to comment

Havoc Snow Posted July 4, 2013 Share #58 Posted July 4, 2013 The game already has dimension hopping in it before they announced this. Yoshida and Fernehawles have both said in two separate interviews (there is even a video of one on these forums) that Xande and the Cloud of Darkness will be in the Crystal Tower raid. That effectively means this raid was ported straight out of FFIII, endgame bosses and all. This is just the "Dragoon" Limit Break hate stirred up all over again, and I'm pretty sure we'll see more of this kind of thing in the future since Yoshida stated he enjoyed cameos and wanted to see more stuff like it in the future. People will either get used to it, or we'll see this kind of rage often. Link to comment
Vanschiver Posted July 4, 2013 Share #59 Posted July 4, 2013 Would much rather see Clud's outfit from Advent Children in this game. >< Maybe Lulu for reasons unknown to me. Link to comment

Nel Celestine Posted July 4, 2013 Share #64 Posted July 4, 2013 doubtful considering 13-2 was released and soon LR will be released here. The market is there and there are people that enjoyed it enough to merit continuing it. It's not for everyone but doesn't mean it should be hated for that. Allow me to use an (noticeably) older example. Fans love Optimus Prime. He's an Icon. Well known in the Transformers community. Then we have Rodimus (Hot Rod) Prime who takes his place after his death in the movie. There was MASSIVE backlash over this. People screamed to the high heavens (And this was BEFORE the internet) to the point where Hasbro changed the script for the GI JOE movie where they planned to kill Duke off. However, while there are quite a number of people who HATE Rodimus and blame him for all of his mistakes and failings, he is also a character who grows, changes and comes to accept his role as leader. As such, he has some very loyal fans. So, my point is, just because a LOT of people dislike something, does not always mean it's terrible. Link to comment
Havoc Snow Posted July 4, 2013 Share #65 Posted July 4, 2013 I actually don't even completely understand WHY people disliked it. I mean, it had everything that should have made a good game. Interesting revisions of old monsters, gunblades, cute girls, a token black guy, TRANSFORMERS, a baby chocobo, the Soul Calibur, amazing visuals, a decent story, tons of back story and information about the world right in the game. The only thing I couldn't stand about it was Hope, god that kid annoyed me. I never played FFXIII-2 unfortunately, was too broke when it came out and never bothered to go back and get it when I had the money, though now I kind of want to play it with all this talk about FFXIII. Also taken from the Anti-Lightning thread on the beta forums. just to illustrate that Lighting wasn't the first, and won't be the last cameo we see. Link to comment

You are not alone in the FXIII love. I think most people disliked the first few hours (ERMAHGERD HALLWAYS) and quit before they got to the actual meat of the story (which I will admit, is a very bad design flaw. I'm not a full-fledged game designer yet and even I know that was a bad call on SE's part) but the graphic designs, the character development, and the amount of detail put into the world and its lore was fantastic. Also, not alone on the Hope hate. I actually do have XIII-2, but I still haven't played it...the fact that I took it out of the wrapping at some point is a miracle in itself. Link to comment
Havoc Snow Posted July 4, 2013 Share #69 Posted July 4, 2013 Cameo =/= interdimensional travel Says who? Where is it written that a cameo has to go by some preset criteria that can't involve interdimensional travel? Perhaps it doesn't suit your tastes that they chose to have the REAL Lightning cameo into the game, rather than just a Hyur with her likeness appearing, but that doesn't make it any less of a cameo. Hell, even Yoshi-P exists in the game in the form of the Wandering Minstrel. Edit: Also, maybe Lightning just uses the Duty Finder to join Eorzea? Link to comment

Hell, even Yoshi-P exists in the game in the form of the Wandering Minstrel. What Aysun's saying is that she doesn't want to see every FF character ever interdimensionally travel to this world. She's not saying that eastereggs/nods to past games and such are bad. I'm with Aysun, having it in the lore (not just a silly event) that Cloud Strife is in this world doing Cloud things is just lame. LET'S BRING ALL THE STRONGEST FF CHARACTERS EVER TO THIS WORLD! Yawn~ Bring their costumes? Yeah! That's cool. Link to comment

As a side note, I may be in the minority here but would anyone else rather have got Caius' outfit instead of Snow's for the male armor? Link to comment
Xenedra Posted July 4, 2013 Share #75 Posted July 4, 2013 Monsters and place names have always been recycled and reused in FFs, reuse of characters is much more rare (though definitely done before, as a few people have pointed out). To me seeing monsters and places from other Final Fantasies does not indicate there was already dimensional hopping, it's just reuse like we've seen in so many predecessors. ARE there indicators of dimensional hopping in the game already? Yes, I can think of at least one in the Cavernous Maws/Atomos. They look juuust like they did in XI, but if you'll recall, it took a special snowflake character with a mystically obtained "pure white feather" to be able to hop through and save the past and/or Abyssea. As far as I recall, this prestige was limited to you and a few others only (including storyline NPCs) according to the storyline (obviously everyone actually got to do it : P). Of course, that's XI and methods of use may be different in XIV, but the point of all that was to demonstrate the limited nature of these things. I haven't seen any pure white feathers yet~ All that in mind, my personal gripe with this is that I don't want a million dimensional hopping RPers coming in claiming they're from Vana'diel, or the Firefly universe or New York, Earth. Crossovers are a cute amusement, I admit, but they always feel very non-canonical to me. Yes, just to me, it's just my opinion : P. I'll also admit that seeing characters from other Final Fantasies doesn't really bother me TERRIBLY because supposedly it all in the same universe anyway. I'm just worried this is going to be a gateway drug for over the top, unbelievable characters from ridiculousville. Honestly, if people can avoid this, my worries are pretty much moot. I also don't mind this event/quest line and I plan to enjoy it. I just consider it more for fan-service and fun than something that ought to be considered main storyline. Like I said earlier, I hope to see costumes from other games; ones I actually enjoyed : P. I am not going to pass terrible judgement D:! on anyone who chooses to consider the event canon or dimension hop, though. I realize plenty of people have a different viewpoint than I do and none is necessarily more right than the other. Ultimately, a quality character is a quality character and even if I think one aspect of your character is strange, it doesn't mean I can't enjoy RP with you. Link to comment
