Swift Nightclaw Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #26 Posted September 27, 2013 I would expect green, blue, red, white, and black to be likely colors when they introduce breeding. I considered Anzu, but saving that for the possibility of a black chocobo. Had another name considered, but saving that for a white chocobo in the future! Just can't decide on a good name for my trusty yellow Chocobo. ... I called mine Anzu. >< Nothing wrong with Anzu! I just decided I was going to wait for the chance of a black chocobo for that name myself. I'm thinking Caladria for a white chocobo, named after Caladrius of Roman mythology. One could also spin the phoenix naming and use Feng, Huang, or Fenghuang. Or Benu (Bennu) the Egyptian equivalent of phoenix (and possibly true origin of the more widely known phoenix). I'm leaning towards Hayai, Yuki, Meiyo, or Kiroh as the official name for my chocobo. I think Kiroh may win as K'iroh sounds apt for a miqo'te name, but I really like Meiyo and Hayai as well. Damn you, decisions!!! I like Quigley! Link to comment
K'nahli Posted September 27, 2013 Share #27 Posted September 27, 2013 My miqo'te called hers Suna(Sue-nah) which means 'desert' in Japanese. That has no purpose or intention ICly though, I just looked through other languages for inspiration and I liked the Japanese pronunciation of it. http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6894/h73w.png[/img] My Paladin hy'ur named his 'Blaze' which I think is both typical and suitable, nothing special ^^ http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/2760/zngj.jpg[/img] My Warror hy'ur named his Cimmerian(Sih-mare-ee-an) since I figured he'd name his something darker. I think I'll use parts of Odin's barding for his chocobo, hoho~ http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/7708/sxvo.png[/img] Link to comment
DAISHI Posted September 27, 2013 Share #29 Posted September 27, 2013 I'm changing my Choco's name to INSURMOUNTABLE WILL OF INDOMITABLE JUSTICE Link to comment
Swift Nightclaw Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #30 Posted September 27, 2013 Dinner. I told a friend to name it Menchi. Those who get the reference will find it amusing. =3 Daishi, I don't think that would fit...would the name be Iwoij? Hehehe Think I'm going with K'iiroh from Japanese Kiiro which simply means.....yellow. Nothing special there, but it sounds best from the choices I was thinking of. I like Suna, though. Very fitting for a miqo'te. Link to comment
DAISHI Posted September 27, 2013 Share #31 Posted September 27, 2013 Hah! Sounds sufficiently foreign. IWOIJA. Link to comment
Michikyou Posted September 27, 2013 Share #32 Posted September 27, 2013 Garuda. My character Naih icly has a few chocobo chicks, and runs a small hatchery. So far he has: A black chick: Odin Three yellow chicks: Shiva, Rumuh and Titan Ride-able mount: Garuda Link to comment
Dravus Posted September 27, 2013 Share #33 Posted September 27, 2013 Ironbeak. I'm a fan of naming my characters and their potential pets/weapons something reasonably mature rather than gimmicky, especially if I intend to make use of them IC at some point. The name is very loosely inspired by the Highlander naming conventions - it's more of a title of honour for the beast's accomplishments in battle than a name. Link to comment
Clover Posted September 27, 2013 Share #34 Posted September 27, 2013 Clover's is Cinnamon. K'mih's... I was unsure, so K'nahli told me to call her chocobo Coco. I liked the idea. Link to comment
Xydane Vale Posted September 27, 2013 Share #35 Posted September 27, 2013 Haha, now you got me thinking of all flightless wyvern species in 'Monster Hunter.' Then again, I could just use the name of a dragon... hm... think, think, think. Yeah, but for arguments sake, birds aren't dragons. Fafnir, Ryujin, and Gorynych are all cool names, but it feels 'claimed' by imagery of giant scaly bastards. Chocobos are rotund and fluffy. Also, there's plenty of equally bad-ass birds out there. Like Ninkasi, goddess of beer, who is a giant fire breathing eagle, conceived from the mythological equivalent of the big bang. There's also Aquila, the aspect of lightning in Greek mythology. Altair is the Arabic name for Aquila's constellation, and the namesake of the more infamous Assassin's Creed character with a strong tie to the imagery of eagles. Alkgnost, a bird of eastern myth that flies out of hell during thunderstorms to eat souls of those stuck out in the rain. There's the Lovecraftian Shantak, a great and terrible scaly bird that commands the skies bordering the dream realm of the gods. Oh, and the Roc/Rohk, which was probably actually a real giant fucking death bird that could carry away small cattle. And these are just a few of the ones with cool-ish sounding names that aren't already spoken for in universe, like Garuda and Phoenix. Just for your consideration. We all know dragons are immensely awesome. The insanely OP'd birds in mythology get so much less credit! Really was just trying to be helpful, not pushy. I utterly lose my mind and everything comes to a grinding halt when I need to think of the perfect name, so if I saved you a headache by cracking out the old dictionary of mythology, I'm glad. I think everyone who ever saw that comic remembers it when "chocobo breeding" is mentioned. Yeah. I never did get my gold chocobo though :c This was all way back before you could just google that though, so maybe I was just doing it wrong. Those darn strategy guides are never right! Yeah, I was joking around on the dragon part. I thought naming my chocobo would be easy but now it seems I must go in depth on my creativity. Hehe. Don't get me wrong, your advice is extremely helpful and it now has me looking at more "inspired" options. An example would be that most prehistoric flying reptile species are named after mythological birds which in this case, you have just informed, so maybe I can browse around at a species of flying reptile and find something. Hell, an idea can also sprout from looking at feathered dinosaurs - early species of raptors found in Ancient China for example... EDIT: Wait a minute..... *facepalm* I'm naming him "Raptor." There we go. Link to comment
Tabrett Posted September 27, 2013 Share #36 Posted September 27, 2013 Gollywobbler, because Kerr is a pirate. Arr. gol·ly·wob·bler [gol-ee-wob-ler] noun Nautical .a very large quadrilateral staysail set between the foremast and mainmast of a schooner. Link to comment
cuideag Posted September 27, 2013 Share #37 Posted September 27, 2013 Dinner is completely IC. Jajara doesn't keep pets because she's worried she might end up eating them if she goes broke. A big chocobo is basically a banquet on legs, so... Dinner. Link to comment
Desmond Aryll Posted September 27, 2013 Share #38 Posted September 27, 2013 I named Des' Choco, Bomeyhat. I wanted something Ul'Dah-ish sounding. Googled the translation for "owl" in Arabic. Done and done. One badass bird name produced. Link to comment
W'seckhi Asah Posted September 27, 2013 Share #39 Posted September 27, 2013 Yeeeah, I went with Pecksalot. Don't stand in front of the chocobo, folks. Link to comment

Jajara doesn't keep pets because she's worried she might end up eating them if she goes broke. A big chocobo is basically a banquet on legs, so... Dinner. Hence my reference to naming a chocobo "Menchi." In the anime/manga Excel Saga, the main character has a dog she names Menchi who desperately tries to escape the apartment whenever possible because of his status as.........the emergency food supply. Val Posted September 27, 2013 Share #41 Posted September 27, 2013 Val, the character, doesn't have much respect for many things outside of what he enjoys. Therefore, he never really named his chocobo. He generally curses at it, calls it "Bird," threatens to eat it, and the like. Link to comment

Kismet Posted September 28, 2013 Share #44 Posted September 28, 2013 I personally really like what I did with this. My Miqo'te's name is Y'raja, and raja means king in both Indian Sanskrit and Indonesian, I believe. I named her chocobo Takhta, which is Indonesian and/or Malaysian for throne. Meanwhile, Astrid's chocobo is simply named Parsnip... Because he's kind of the color of one, right? Lmao. (And yes, my characters have ICly named their chocobos that!) Link to comment

Belmont Posted September 28, 2013 Share #46 Posted September 28, 2013 Belmont's chocobo is named Siegur (An adaptation of the Norse hero Sigurd, who slayed the dragon Fafnir). Siegur is the bane of his existence, and tortures him mercilessly. He even went as far as chewing on his hair during a fight with an Aevis, or after Bel went fishing once it snatched the fish off the line and ate it. Link to comment

Otte Posted September 28, 2013 Share #49 Posted September 28, 2013 Otte's chocobo is called Meeno, mostly because my brain likes to make up two syllable names that sound cute >_> Not sure what Walking Oak is going to name her chocobo, but Ash is definitely an option, though it would fit black chocobo better.
