Today's patch preview offers a peek at Gerolt's masterworks and the new Glamours system, allowing players to gain both the power they desire and a style to match. Gerolt's Masterworks A host of new gear will be available in patch 2.2, offering players the edge they need to overcome the new challenges that await them. Among that new gear are Gerolt's masterworks, a new set of gear obtainable through the exchange of Allagan tomestones of soldiery. Gerolt the Weaponsmith From blacksmithing to carpentry to weaving, all these arts and more were mastered by Gerolt, the renowned artisan whose name once echoed through the halls of every workshop in Eorzea. None could match his sense for form and function, his creations earning the acclaim of disciples of war and magic across the realm. All who sought the finest tools of their chosen profession had eyes only for those fashioned by his masterful hands. But alas, the master would lose himself to the thralls of liquor, his legend left to sink to the bottom of his drinking glass. As years passed, his extant creations grew all the more valuable for their rarity, artifacts highly sought by the wealthiest collectors in the realm. And yet in recent days, an ever-increasing number of arms seemingly forged by his hand have surfaced. Could this be a sign of Gerolt's return, or merely the work of a forger who would shamelessly exploit the master's name for his own ill gain? Rowena, the maven of munitions at Revenant's Toll, espouses that proof of an item's authenticity can be found in Gerolt's signature─the mark of Rhalgr, breaker of worlds─and indeed, the master's fervor for the god of destruction in his early years is widely known. Those who would possess true power would do well to seek those artifacts that bear this mark. Glamours By using Glamours, players can alter the appearance of gear to resemble other gear of similar form and function. All visible gear including main arms, shields, armor, earrings, and rings can be altered. Quest Requirements To unlock Glamours, players must first complete the following quest. Upon completion, the action Cast Glamour will appear under General Actions in the Actions and Traits interface. Quest Name A Self-improving Man Required Level Level 50 Quest Location Mor Dhona (X:22, Y:6) - Wiscard Casting Glamours First, ensure that you are in possession of the gear whose appearance you wish to alter (the base item), the gear whose appearance you wish to project (the projected item), and the corresponding glamour prism. Select the base item, then choose Cast Glamour from the subcommand menu. The glamour prism will be consumed upon use, but no gear will be lost in the process. Furthermore, gear used to cast glamours will be bound upon use of a glamour prism. Uncasting a glamour requires the use of a glamour dispeller. Projectable Items Glamours may be cast with any items that meet the following conditions: The base and projected items are of the same type. The equipment level of the projected item is equal to or lower than the base item. The base item and projected item can be equipped by the same class or job. The base item and projected item can be equipped by the same gender or race. For gear occupying more than one gear slot, one the following conditions must be met in addition to the above: The base item and projected item occupy the same gear slots. All of the projected item's gear slots fall within the base item's gear slots. Example Able to cast glamours Base Item Projected Item Casting the glamour of a hooded cowl on another hooded cowl, as both occupy a body and head slot. Casting the glamour of a robe on a hooded cowl, as the body and head slot of the hooded cowl include the body slot of the robe. * In this case, you will not appear to be wearing headwear. Glamours cannot be cast Base Item Projected Item Casting the glamour of a hooded cowl on a robe, as the head slot of the hooded cowl is not covered by the robe. * The equipment requirements of a glamoured item are identical to the base item. * The appearance of the base item will be used in the event your current class cannot equip the projected item. * Glamours may be temporarily disabled in PvP arenas and other unique areas. Acquire new gear to overcome the dangers of Eorzea, and magick them for a stylish appearance all your own. Link to comment

Kage Posted March 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2014 I KNEW THAT TANK STUFF IS THE NEW TOMES STUFF T_T /welp Interesting update about the glamor system, pretty much just confirming the inkling suspicion I had about whether or not you can use one item to be used as the appearance of others. Is it just me or was I under the impression that these were the new Allagan drops? The tank one certainly looks like the concept art I'd seen for Heavy Allagan Armor. Link to comment
Clover Posted March 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2014 I'm very excited about all those new robes! I clearly need for Clover's RP to become more epic so that she can wear them ICly *laughs*. Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted March 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2014 I ignored my myth gear for the longest time because its ugly to me. No need now, I can just make it look like my AF or IFlame uniform. I just hope there is something that can be done about that glowing weapon thing. Link to comment
Arianne Beaudonet Posted March 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 20, 2014 I'm glad to see they are putting in some kind of appearance option. It's kind of a staple in most MMO's these days, even if it takes them a bit to get around to implementing it. That said, I'm looking forward to both the new gear and the glamours, though admittedly I am a bit confused by how the glamours work at the moment. I'm more of a hands-on kind of girl so I'm sure once it's in game, I'll figure it out quickly. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted March 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 20, 2014 I fucking love the red and blacks involved in the new allagan gear. Looks so amazing. Link to comment

Ildur Posted March 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 20, 2014 Everything nice and dandy except this part: Quest Requirements To unlock Glamours, players must first complete the following quest. Upon completion, the action Cast Glamour will appear under General Actions in the Actions and Traits interface. Quest Name A Self-improving Man Required Level Level 50 Quest Location Mor Dhona (X:22, Y:6) - Wiscard For duck sake. I already knew the glamour system was designed with end-game play in mind, but this is ridicolous. We can't glamour things while we level up. This has to be the most annoying and arbitrary restriction they have implemented yet. Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted March 21, 2014 Share #10 Posted March 21, 2014 I am right there with ya. This company's delight in making the most basic features of MMO gaming--or of gaming in general--locked behind some steampunk-level machination of gears and nonsense just blows my freaking mind. Mewnie Posted March 22, 2014 Share #11 Posted March 22, 2014 I heard about the Glamour system and was all excited about coming back, as being able to tailor my characters appearance is a big thing for me. Then I see you have to be level 50 to do it What a load of bull. I'll stick to the games I'm currently playing. It's pretty pretty dress up for end game raiders so they don't end up looking like a bowl of Skittles. Link to comment
Sophia_Grave Posted March 22, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 22, 2014 I don't see what the big deal is. Pre-50 players swap out equipment every few levels, which makes fumbling around with glamour annoying. Crafters ought to have something else other than housing to work with, because SE is obviously not going for competitive crafter armor. And for us roleplayers, we level characters just to wear a specific set as it is then never level them again. For all intents and purposes, the character is done at that level; they don't need to glamour because they can just wear the real thing since RP'ers hardly ever progress with side characters. From where I'm standing, nothing has changed, aside from Mor Dhona and raids being a lot less samey and crafters actually having something to do. If they can turn a completely system-side mechanic and hand it over to the community as an in-game mechanic, I think they should go for it personally. Link to comment

I wanted to check out the Hildebrand quests but found out .. had to beat the main story. I did eventually with help from my FC mates and friends, but things like this ... the glamour ... should be available to everyone. Also, I am guessing that there are some limitations to this? See if I can explain what I mean. RPly, Fitz wears glasses, a head item. But I want him to have the best armor on, which for a PLD is the trashcan (gear that is chest and locks out head) So even if I use the glamour to put say, the skin of the Cobalt armor onto my chest piece (so the graphic shows my head) and I put on glasses, the chest pops off? If so, disappointing but I'll live. ===== I don't see what the big deal is. Pre-50 players swap out equipment every few levels, which makes fumbling around with glamour annoying. Pre-50 players do go through armor sets, but that should not be a factor to keep people who find a set they like not be able to use it as a glamour! Heck, in my 40s I loved my cobalt set. Even in my teens or so I had some sets I loved to wear RPly. So why do I need to be forced to be level 50 and beat the main story? This is more a side thing than something that continues after the Main Scenario. It's a person's choice if they want to use it or not, so having it available at level 15 or so (like getting retainers) would be a better option IMO. Link to comment

AHAHAHAHA.... why The odin armor is -just- for vanity. It has no other uses but for vanity. And yet, no plans?! The fuck. Link to comment
Aldotsk Posted March 25, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 25, 2014 It's probably because Odin's armor takes like four slots of your armor sets. They did say that one slot based armor cannot be glamouring two slot based armor (like a non-hooded robe cannot glamour the robe attached with a hood) Link to comment
Kage Posted March 25, 2014 Share #16 Posted March 25, 2014 Oh I know the reasoning but honestly that just makes the Odin armor completely and utterly useless, even for vanity reasons. Odin and Behemoth were really just vanity and yet now Odin's armor doesn't even have that going for it. Not sure what they were thinking or if they even thought about that at all. Link to comment
