Unnamed Mercenary Posted August 19, 2014 Share #26 Posted August 19, 2014 Could an ultrabook suffice as an alternative to download the patches? Any computer could be used just for downloading. You wouldn't be actually playing the game on it, just installing it and opening the launcher. The idea is that once the game is fully patched, you copy the install directory onto a thumb drive and copy it back down to your original PC and overwrite it with the now fully-patched files. ^this. The full game is around 14GB the last time I checked. ..it might be a little larger after 2.3's patch. Link to comment
g0ne Posted August 19, 2014 Author Share #27 Posted August 19, 2014 Holy chocobo!! O_o!! I opened up my launcher, and it recommenced the patching, no error, with 4776 MB worth of download left. I think that's the amount that was left before the previous error! I remember the total download size was above 10 GB, and with almost 6 GB done last time, the situation looks promising! I'm going to cross my fingers and hope again! Link to comment
Kage Posted August 19, 2014 Share #28 Posted August 19, 2014 It's possible your ISP is unstable which is causing the launcher to have issues patching/updating as well as incomplete files. I know when I'm having DSL issues at home and not using my hotspot to play that the launcher won't launch and give me a similar error. Link to comment

Kage Posted August 19, 2014 Share #31 Posted August 19, 2014 You can quote multiple replies in one message  The size of my download was above 10 GB, but nowhere close to 14 GB. Should I be worried about this? The "initial game" is about 4 gb. The updates and patches are ~10 GB. Link to comment

Patches kinda get layered on top of each other. The initial game was around 8GB from the installer DVD, and then had a bunch more patches released on top. (There have been map changes, so it's not all 100% addition). If SE is smart, the patcher should get a new baseline here and there, so you don't have 2.0 downloaded, replaced by 2.1, replaced by 2.2 and then replaced by 2.3. I wish they did a "core files" and "stream download" option, like I've heard WoW has. It'd be nice to be able to grab game updates in the background. edit: The files are also compressed. A little. Some stuff compresses better, so an 11GB download could very well decompress into a ~14GB folder. Link to comment
g0ne Posted August 19, 2014 Author Share #34 Posted August 19, 2014 Okay. I guess now I'll just wait for the patching to finish, and then I hope the game works flawlessly. Fingers crossed! Edit: Hopefully, in a bit, there'll be good tidings! On a side note, how many subfolders (the ones with the weird names) should be present in the ffxivpatch folder? I currently have 2. I hope it works! edit: One for each big patch file. ...I grabbed remote access of my game folder, and it's reported as ~12GB on my drive. Temporary patch files could drive that number up a little higher, like the 14 mentioned. Link to comment
g0ne Posted August 19, 2014 Author Share #36 Posted August 19, 2014 Thank you so much, everyone, for everything!! I've been like an annoying little child these past few days, but thank you so much for being patient with stupid me! My ARR is working now! Yay!! :bouncy: Hope to meet all of you in game! Once again, my heartiest thanks! PS. It says character creation is allowed on Balmung on the Lodestone, and the status of Balmung is online when I check world status through the launcher but when I try to make a character on it in the game, it says that the character restriction is on. Lodestone only updates once every 4 hours, I think. You're best luck is when most of the server's asleep. To keep it standardized (and easily convertible) this would be around 8AM-2PM GMT. That's when I have the most luck, at least. Link to comment
