Guest Posted April 27, 2010 Share #26 Posted April 27, 2010 Just wondering what you guys are using all that RAM for? The game will take up part of that. I also do a good deal of work with Photoshop and various other graphics, audio, and video editing software (Adobe Premiere and SoundForge primarily), and sometimes I have the IDE for PHP up as well. And I have a hard time closing Firefox tabs/windows. It's a problem. I think Firefox alone with all of the tabs/windows I keep open gobbles up about 3gb. A lot of this stuff I do simultaneously. If its just for the game, then RAM really shouldn't have much to do with it. Unless you have lots of background programs running at the same time. I know a test using Crisis to show what RAM does with 3GB/6GB/12GB and it was like 1fps difference between the 3 and 12. Should be able to have ~100tabs open in each for firefox w/o much problem at 3. You using xp, vista, or 7? If vista or 7 then turning off your HDD indexing should give you somewhere between 40-50% of your RAM performance back. Also can turn off start-up applications if you don't use them all for some decrease in usage. Link to comment
Verranicus Posted April 28, 2010 Share #27 Posted April 28, 2010 Can one of you do me a favor and let me know if I'd be able to run this on my PC? I have a PS3, but I'm vastly more comfortable playing MMO's on my PC and it'd save me 30 dollars or so on pS3 peripherals. AMD Athlon 54 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 4GB of RAM GeForce 9400 GT I don't expect it to dazzle me with it's graphics as I know my video card is "old" (by PC standards), medium-low settings would be good enough for me. Thanks. Link to comment
Eva Posted April 28, 2010 Author Share #28 Posted April 28, 2010 From what I gather, it should be able to run on this rig, probably not too badly either. It will be interesting to see how the specs differ when the game goes live. Link to comment
Arzy Posted July 11, 2010 Share #29 Posted July 11, 2010 At times like these, I'm happy that I've invested in buying a new computer. Beautiful graphics add to the gameplay experience, of course, for a fan of the game, being able to run the game is enough. Duuh....can't wait for the release... Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 11, 2010 Share #30 Posted July 11, 2010 Someone on a different forum is reporting that he's able to run it pretty smoothly on a Dual Core processor with 4 gigs of RAM and an 8800GT video card. He just turned off Shadows. Seems like the game isn't going to be quite as extensive as we thought Link to comment
Satrina Posted July 12, 2010 Share #31 Posted July 12, 2010 Certain cards are getting screen tears and jumps. I think they are 480's and something else. The game just isnt optomized yet for them. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 12, 2010 Share #32 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm getting reports that it's the Radeon ATI 5770 and the rest of the series is running really choppy. The 480's are running alright, but like you said the game isn't optimized for it yet. As I'm getting a 480, I hope they fix this soon Link to comment
Shamadconde Posted July 12, 2010 Share #33 Posted July 12, 2010 Me too! I really need to replace mine seeing as they are listed as the MINIMUM on the FFXIV system requirements. Link to comment
Mamina Posted July 12, 2010 Share #34 Posted July 12, 2010 If my laptop can play Aion without any issues at all, can it play FFXIV? -terrible with specs- May have to get it rehauled. : Link to comment

Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #36 Posted July 12, 2010 2020.... ack... And here I thought my computer as powerfull.. *cries* http://img189.imageshack.us/f/benchmarke.jpg Link to comment
Kashemia Posted July 12, 2010 Share #37 Posted July 12, 2010 I don't know hw much I trust the Benchmark. I got over 3000 and I have a Quadcore processer, and Nvidea GTX 260 (I think) graphic card, it should be enough to handle it. I haven't really had any probems in other games, and what I had seemed to have more to do with the connection than with the computer. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 12, 2010 Share #38 Posted July 12, 2010 The benchmark runs all setting on high regardless on wither you put it on low or high. If you can run Aion, you can run FFXIV... you MAY haver to turn off shadows however. Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #39 Posted July 12, 2010 I dont have much need on shadows, anyway. Hell I barely ever paid attention to them during WoW after all. I turned them off one day to check something and never noticed they were gone in the first place.. Link to comment
Zhavi Posted July 12, 2010 Share #40 Posted July 12, 2010 It should be noted that they tuned the benchmark for future systems. They wanted to prove that the graphics will still be lovely and updateable for the future. So there shouldn't be a computer in existence for common retail that can score 8000 (hypothetically). edit- also, due to them being sponsered by nvidia, if you're running ati you're going to get lower scores than if you were running nvidia. That stuff should be fixed by launch though. Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #41 Posted July 12, 2010 I wish it would tell me whats slowing stuff down... [Your System] [Your score] [Time running] [Your graphic Card sucks!!] ... or something like that. Link to comment
Kashemia Posted July 12, 2010 Share #42 Posted July 12, 2010 Okay, I'm confused. I thought you wanted a low score? Am I wrong? Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #43 Posted July 12, 2010 According to this german page.. the higher the score the better. 1500 or less: terrible performance 1500 to 1999: Minimal performance 2000 to 2499: Playable 3000 to 4499: Good performance 4500 bis 5499: Great performance 5500 bis 7999: Marvelous performance 8000+: Superior Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 12, 2010 Share #44 Posted July 12, 2010 Higher the better. In order to run the game you need at least a 1500. However, the benchmark runs all setting on high, including shadows. There's a good chance your slow down is due to that. IF you have an ATI you're score will be at least 500 points lower than it should, if you have dual video cards you're score will be almost halved. Taking shadows into account and the fact you can turn them off, I would say a 1500 score is really a 2000, which will have no problem with the game. The game says it's minimum requirements for video cards is the 9600GT (My current video card lol) which is about the Radeon HD 3870. A guy I know runs a 8800 GTS which is a lower model and didn't have problems, except for shadows and that is like the... Radeon HD 3850 X2. These are the cards most people have, if you want to run the game at awesome level, just assume you'll need to buy a new video card. My recommendation is the newest card coming out for NVidia- the GTX460, it's a high end video card in the less than 200$ range is and is made for people who want bang for their buck. It's also supposed to be smaller than the cards in it;s series(465, 470, and 480). http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/19242/1 Radeons I know f--- all about Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #45 Posted July 12, 2010 Well... *is all sneaky and re-posts her screen once more* http://img189.imageshack.us/f/benchmarke.jpg What do you think what "could" the score be without the shadows here? Link to comment
Kashemia Posted July 12, 2010 Share #46 Posted July 12, 2010 Ah, so I guess my score of 3000+ was actually pretty good, good to know! Then I'm not so worried anymore Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 12, 2010 Share #47 Posted July 12, 2010 Well... *is all sneaky and re-posts her screen once more* http://img189.imageshack.us/f/benchmarke.jpg What do you think what "could" the score be without the shadows here? Your system looks like it will do fine. You have the same video card my boyfriend has and he clocked a 3200 on the benchmark. The difference is his processor is a quadcore, your's is a dual core. BUT you have more GHz (His runs 2.4, your's is 2.8). So turning off shadows and other nonessentials (Even just shadows) should net you around the same benchmark score as him - a 3200. That is around 30 FPS outside of cities, and 15-30 FPS in cities. In high traffic areas you may experience some lag, but the game IS completely playable for you. Also, your AMD processor could be screwing up your score. Good processor's, just not for benchmarks Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 12, 2010 Share #48 Posted July 12, 2010 Wonderfull, thanks many times. *smiles happily* If you dont mind.. my friend is currently going all "OMG DOOMSDAY!" because her benchmark is quite horrible, too. So I try to snatch a screen from her, too. *snicker* Link to comment
Satrina Posted July 12, 2010 Share #50 Posted July 12, 2010 Honestly take the benchmark with a grain of salt. Benchmarks are never really indicative of your system running the game fine or not. The only time I would be worried is if you score like below 500 on the low settings or your PC overheats and shuts off during the benchmark Link to comment
