Kamome Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #26 Posted January 17, 2015 Also, I feel like I have a pretty solid concept in mind for a Doman-originating character, now. I'm going to post my pages in the wiki page thread over the weekend for some lore-checks. Going to try and keep them much shorter and sweeter than my OP. And Sounsyy--the Sagolii thing wasn't unclear--I just got confused because I thought Sagolii was fairly peaceful and populated by the Seeker of the Sun miqo'te tribes because of the character creation snippet about them. Sounsyy Posted January 17, 2015 Share #28 Posted January 17, 2015 Paglth'an is the Amalj'aa homeland, which lies across the Sagolii desert. However, after the summoning of their god, Ifrit, the Amalj'aa have invaded the Sagolii desert and claimed the southern reaches of Thanalan as their own, naming the region "Zahar'ak" which means "Land of Perseverance." They believe this land is blessed by Ifrit and seek to rid it of taint. ie. Ul'dah. So, I did mean what I said. Yes, you are correct in that the Amalj'aa are from Paglth'an, which they still control, but they now also control a large portion of the Sagolii desert. Sorry if my original statement was confusing. ^^; Oh, that makes sense. Wait--is Sagolii the (contested) border between Thanalan and Paglth'an, then? Or basically like a militarized zone like Kashmir? Merp, so another typo on my part. When I wrote up there "across the Sagolii desert" I should've said across the Bay of Dha'yuz. So the Sagolii desert stretches across the entire southern portion of the Ul'dahn peninsula from Ul'dah to Cape Deadwind. The Amalj'aa homelands are due East from Southern Thanalan across the Bay of Dha'yuz in the region of Paglth'an, which is North East of Thanalan and South of the Black Shroud. So the Amalj'aa have taken control of the Eastern and Southern edges of Thanalan to better colonize Zahar'ak. Sorry for the confusion! I completely missed that I had said east in my original post instead of south. >< I should really not try to answer lore questions while in Coil. I get distracted and say things in a hurry. /gives up. /goes to bed. >< 1 Link to comment
Kellach Woods Posted January 17, 2015 Share #29 Posted January 17, 2015 Also, you can just, if you don't like or don't want to be constrained by the future lore of the place, just make shit up. Worked for me so far. Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted January 17, 2015 Share #30 Posted January 17, 2015 Most of the lore-based questions have been answered, so I'll just go of note that I have three Doman characters, one of whom was conscripted by Garlemald for a while before she blew up parts of the Ultima Weapon and peaced out. Haha, awesome--do you have an RPC Library page set up for them? Link me? I have been reading that wiki like it's homework lately. Being trapped on my phone for internet until Sunday, I can't give links but look up Seno Nakakami, Chao Lingshen, and Yuuna Akashi. Ignore the fact that I've done very little work on Yuuna's page and that Seno's is mostly in bullet format. Link to comment

Worked for me so far. In the past (with FFXIV, at least...) I feel like S-E did a pretty good job with lore continuity, so I like to stay in-line with their world building stuff. Blizzard, on the other hand... I always felt like the only way I could ever possibly RP in WoW was by making up my character as I went. Much more fast-and-loose style, there. Also, Chris--thanks for the names! And Sounsyy, you're awesome. You made a typo because you were so quick to be helpful. Thank you so much for helping a noob figure out the (surprisingly intense) geographical details of this game. I hope everything turns out well for you and your project after the laptop theft. Same thing happened to me in 2012... Just saved enough extra money up to replace it this past November of 2014. Link to comment
Kamome Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #32 Posted January 17, 2015 Also, if anyone out there is interested/new as well/wanting to RP someone Doman/willing to lore-check for us, an RL buddy of mine and I are putting together a simple origin plotline to get started with involving a trafficker/smuggler from Doma and an Ala Mihgan Garlean defector. Otherwise it will just be posted at some point in the Welcome forum once I actually make it to Balmung on Monday. Damn you, Balmung!! I'm really looking forward to RPing and maybe someday partying up and doing content with all of you! Have an entertaining weekend! This board is great. Link to comment

Agreed on the continuity part - The continuity is unreal as to how good it is... IF you're playing an Eorzean native. The thing is that if you're embracing the idea of emigrating to Eorzea (which is a fairly cool plot hook don't get me wrong, wouldn't have used it on my main if it wasn't!) - most of the lore surrounding the other places is not established publically yet. Which is why I'd be wary of saying I'm from the New World/Non-Doma Othard/Ilsabard etc. and starting to establish stuff. Thus, the make stuff up and when lore opens up, see if it fits what you want to do. Link to comment

Yep, after a few days of writing and mulling things over I decided not completely scrap my original Ul'dahn merchant concept—after writing a backstory for a Doman character I realized that it might be safer to have two primary RP characters in case the Doman has to go through lore retcon therapy at some point. That said, it has been really fun to find the clues SE has left us in regard to Doma. I can't wait to see what we will learn about Ishgard and Dravania in Heavensward! Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted January 19, 2015 Share #36 Posted January 19, 2015 As you can see if you read Seno's bio (or his wife's, she's actually done more fleshing out in hers), we said screw it and did what we wanted, though for the most part we feel it fits into the lore. Link to comment

I read both profiles and I thought while reading that you two did a great job telling a story while keeping the specifics open to change. That's what I'm trying to do right now, too, with the Doman character I am finishing up for the (hopeful!!) opening of the Balmung gates tonight. I especially like how you and Motoko wove in the Ninja storyline with your character histories. Do you know if there is somewhere online to find the Ninja quest transcripts? I'll check YouTube for the cut scenes, maybe... I think you two incorporated the kind of general feudal Japanese historical setting that Square used for the Far East in FFXI. I can't wait for Samurai to be in the game! Link to comment
Sounsyy Posted January 20, 2015 Share #38 Posted January 20, 2015 Do you know if there is somewhere online to find the Ninja quest transcripts? Ninja Quest Transcripts on XIVDB XIVDB has this for a few of the quests in game. Be sure to click the Dialogue tab and then just go on to the subsequent quest for the next set of dialogue. Um, feel like shouldn't need to be said, but spoiler. ^^ Youtube also works! Link to comment

We kinda are :\ between ourselves about having actual quest content be something we set our characters as having partaken in but... -Shrugs- It works for us and we enjoy it. You two seem pretty aware of the parts you've borrowed and open about it. Kamome Posted January 20, 2015 Author Share #43 Posted January 20, 2015 One last question for this thread (I hope)... Is there an approximate in-game date for the rebellion in Doma? Would it have been with the release of Patch 2.4, or some time earlier? Nitpicky and somewhat silly question, but I am trying to get my timeline for Kamome right in my head. Thank you guys for everything. I got into Balmung tonight, at long last. ^^ Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted January 20, 2015 Share #44 Posted January 20, 2015 There's not been an exact date given, but with the amount of time it would take to cross an ocean and with the Domans beginning to arrive in 2.2 with Yugiri, I think we treat it as having taken place near the end of the 2.0 storyline. Excellent. I'm guessing that would be sometime in late 1577, if my sense of the timeline is correct. Thank you for all of your help, Chris. Good luck with yours and Motoko's storyline!
