Love is in the air -- or so they claim. At the Wayfarer's Rest, romance is not everything, and sometimes relationships and events that revolve around them should be about appreciating the friendships and bonds that you have created with others. On February 24th, from 7PM - 10PM CST, join us at the Wayfarer's Rest to partake in a small Valentoine's Exchange. Unlike the Secret Gift Exchange that happens for Starlight Celebration, this exchange is meant to be smaller gifts of appreciation for those that you have spent time at the Rest with and have developed bonds that you cherish with your fellow residents. Whether that happens to be an in-character reason or even an out-of-character reason, we implore you to give the gift of sweets or flowers to those you care for, or even simply everyone that you share the Rest with. There is no obligation to come to this event, though if you would like to participate, but cannot for some reason, I (@FreeJayFly) am willing to hold onto your gifts and pass them out on your behalf. On that, I will also return any leftovers that I end up having in my inventory unless directed otherwise! Need ideas on what to give out? There are some nice in-game items that I've sniffed out meanings for as a cheat sheet. As a note, some flower colours cannot happen naturally in real life, and so do not have a meaning associated with them. These flowers will be noted in the lists below. Similarly, there are some flowers that have more negative connotations and will also be pointed out. Sweets meanings seem to come in many different meanings, so I won't be including meanings for things like different chocolates, pastries, or fruits. In short, if you choose to gift any of those items, it's because you appreciate them and think they're sweet. For the sake of brevity: black and blue flowers do not often occur naturally in nature. Both colours rely on chemical called anthocyanin, which is not generally found in certain flowers. There there are some cases of breeding where this is possible, but a lot of these crossbred flowers don't have any deep meaning behind them. Similarly, green flowers are also quite rare (though do exist!), though the reasoning is actually speculation that flowers are meant to attract pollinators, and if they're all green from petals to root, they would not be doing that. As a general thing, however: Black typically represents mourning, death, and even new beginnings -- for the people in mourning or affected, or perhaps even the departed soul. Blue has long been used symbolically in art and writing, and blue flowers of any kind are often used to symbolize peace, tranquillity, truth and spirituality. Green, in a lot of places, is recognised as a colour that is deeply tied to health and wealth.

On February 12th, the Wayfarer's Rest will be celebrating the Heavensturn Celebration in tandem with Chinese New Year -- seems appropriate given that this should be when we celebrate the Year of the Ox! In the myth, the Jade Emperor had called for the animals to arrive to his party, and the order that they arrived in would be the order that they would come in a twelve year cycle. The Ox, being a dependable and trustworthy individual was tricked by the Rat, who had told the Ox that because they were so small, they would like to have a ride to arrive on time. Where the Ox was meant to be first in the twelve year cycle, the Rat had taken the spot by jumping off the Ox and arriving first. This year, those born with the Ox Zodiac are born with the Metal element. There are to be many obstacles and hardships that come to bar one's way, and while they might feel like they are alone on some days, they can seek solace and comfort in those around them. In the end, fortune favours the Oxen born here, foreseeing that even after all the hardship, the Oxen will see a comfortable life. Lucky colours for this year are: Yellow; A colour corresponding with the element of earth, yellow is considered the most beautiful and prestigious colour. Yellow is the colour of balance, the centre of everything as it generates both Yin and Yang. Yellow also represents freedom from worldly cares or bonds, and is such used by Buddhists. White; A colour corresponding with metal, white oddly represents gold and symbolises brightness, purity, and fulfilment. In astrology, white also represents the White Tiger of the West -- one of the Four Symbols in the Chinese constellations. In game, Byakko would be our best representative of this colour. Green; Sometimes considered the same symbolic colour with blue, green is associated with health, posterity, and harmony. This colour, along with celadon, would often be used for roof tiles to represent heaven. Jade is often considered a good gem to wear to be closer to these things. ----- Our minigames and prizes on this day will be as such:

On Friday, December 18th from 7 PM - 10 PM CST, we will have a Starlight Celebration themed casual RP event within the Rest! This will help kick off more of the Domestic side of Wayfarer's Rest roleplay that will hopefully happen weekly! The plan is to have these Domestic, casual events where people can get to know one another, tour the Rest, or make use of its different facilities (the new dojo!, the bathhouse, library, tea room, kitchen, or lounge!).

With the Starlight Celebration right around the corner at this point, the Wayfarer's Rest is opening up its doors to have its second Secret Gift Exchange! We are opening sign ups for our Winter Exchange event on November 19th, and they will remain open till November 30th! When signing up for this event, you are required to send @FreeJayFly a list of three items that you can get in-game. These items can vary in needed crafting material or Market Board price, but they must be obtainable and tradeable in some fashion. When writing up your list, we ask that you do what you can to not make all of your items unreasonably priced (i.e. putting all items on the list that cost over a million gil each). You can put one item up that is one of those "god, I would really love to have that, but it's super expensive for me to get" on there, and hope for the best, but remember that item is not guaranteed by the person that will end up being your gifter. We recommend putting two affordable items on your wishlist, and one expensive one just in case the gifter cannot fulfil certain items due to their own reserves of money or crafting items! On December 1st, all participants will be given a random person and their created wishlist to fulfil by January 2nd. You do not have to get everything on the list that is given to you, but you do have to get at least one of the requested items. By signing up, you agree that you will have your character participate in this event in some fashion -- the very minimum of participation being that all you do is give your recipient their gift(s) via Moogle Delivery, or trading them directly. Failure to meet the criteria by the end date will unfortunately mean denial into future events similar to this one. If items on your recipient's list need to be crafted, please know that you can go to @FreeJayFly and ask for assistance in getting it crafted; all masterwork books have been obtained and all things should be craftable on their end. This ensures that your gift remains secret between you and the event organiser. If your gift needs some farming, please let Jay know to organise something before the RP event begins. On January 3rd, we will be having an in-character session starting at 2PM CST at the Rest where characters can exchange their gifts with one another, and comment or converse on it if you simply want to partake in it for fun, further character growth and development, and / or as a means for creating better connections.

  9. It's always obvious when All Saint's Wake is close. The leaves have fully turned and mostly fallen, leaving the trees perfectly suited for dressing up, or making even creepier. Pumpkins are carved, cider is brewed, apples are dipped in chocolate or caramel... many a fun thing is prepared for people of all ages. Whether you're a child, an adult, or even and elder, many still enjoy the art of crafting their costumes and dressing up. Likewise, many also love the idea of visiting something haunted or spooky to feel the rush of adrenaline as fear grips the body in that moment. When it comes to your character, how do they remember their first All Saint's Wake? What made them love (or hate) the holiday?
  10. Oyun looked in the mirror, pulled a face, and burst out laughing. Seconds later she was clutching her head in pain. “Ow, ow, ow” she said and hissed through her teeth. She gently reached up and started rubbing a finger along one of her horns, it produced a gentle humming noise that calmed her down. “Ok, note to self, find out what I was drinking last night, and try to avoid it in the future.” She looked into the mirror again, gave herself a light slap on the cheeks and smiled. “Well if the hangover is this bad, I must have had a good time.” She puttered around her apartment for a bit getting ready for the day, she wasn’t expected anywhere until noon so she had time. It was odd travelling around Othard and Kugane, she still felt a little weird about how everyone assumed she was a local, it was so different from Eorzea where everyone assumed she was foreign. The feeling of not belonging anywhere used to bother her when she was younger, but after her mother told her that she shouldn’t think of it as belonging to nowhere, but rather she belonged everywhere she began to see things in a new light. She wasn’t an Eorzean, despite growing up there, she wasn’t of the steppe despite her people’s long history there. She was of Hydaelyn, and no matter where she travelled, she belonged. Sure some areas might be harder to travel to, Hingashi, and Garlemeld might not be the most friendly to visitors, but Oyun was sure she would get the chance to visit them at some point. *** As Oyun entered the hostelry she pushed the cap a bit further up her forehead, now that she was out of the sun, it didn’t need to be kept so low. Spotting Asta behind the counter she waved hello and walked over while pulling out a few envelopes from her pouch. She looked up from her pouch to notice Asta with a mischievous grin on her face. “Hey Asta, I’ve got some letters for you here, … it looks like you’re in a good mood. Did something amazing happen?” Asta was always full of interesting stories, one of the benefits of working in the hostelry. “Maybe” the miqo’te replied “Maybe not~! Really, I think I should be asking you that question instead, yeah?" Oyun’s grin grew to match Asta’s. “Ah so I take it last night was fun? Did I sing again? I told you never to let me sing. Also what was that we were drinking?” "Nope. No singing. Not this time, at least. Last night we met with some peddlers from the -- ah -- The Steppes? They were real mad that you didn't know 'bout the kumis. There was an Au Ra fellow too -- thought that since you had the same last name, you must be a long-lost sister of his. Next thing I know, he's trying to start an initiation ritual!" “And what did that involve?” "He wouldn't let me join! So I've got no clue. I assume it meant two things though: alcohol and kumis. But none of that is the reason why I'd be asking you if something happened~” Asta glanced over Oyun’s shoulder stifled a laugh and said “Oh! I should get back to work. You know how she gets if I chat too long." Puzzled Oyun watched her scurry away, she then felt a tug on her pant leg, she turned around and looked down to see a Namazu staring up at her. “My betrothed” it said “It’s lovely to see you yes, yes! The innkeep said you would be in today. We need to start making plans for our triumphant return to the Steppe yes, yes.” Oyun’s hand went to her horn, and she unconsciously began stroking it. She needed to get out of this somehow without hurting the Namazus feelings. How? She had no idea.
