Hehe... your surname is Galka, . I see what you did there.
-
Welcome to the RPC! Looking forward to running into you in the game! Likewise, if you need lots of fire and the occasional heal, look me up, .
-
It's also made more difficult by how one character can be so many things simultaneously! For me, I'll begin with one and see how I feel after a few months, hehe. And welcome to the RPC! I'm also pretty stoked to begin in earnest with the community here. There's so much good energy all around!

That Gilgamesh is the Reddit server is actually one of my concerns for those playing there. The conduct of some redditers on Gilgamesh is a source of vicarious embarrassment for me as someone who participates in the FFXIV sub-reddit, particularly when their griefing takes the shape of "what are you doing here; this is the reddit server! Get out RPers!" However, other Reddit users have also called out those bothering roleplayers on Gilgamesh because it is honestly shameful behaviour and, thankfully, not to be tolerated as the norm. Here is a reddit thread about some of the good things about Gilgamesh from someone who had similar apprehensions: With that in mind, however, I'd also like to say that, as someone who has similarly unpleasant experiences with established communities in other MMOs, that the 1.0 players continue to be the most friendly and welcoming group of MMO RPers I have ever had the privilege of encountering, so there's something good about the Balmung court too. My advice is to not let the past affect your decisions here. Try both, meet people from both sides, ask questions of both those advocating the Balmung and Gilgamesh communities, and see what the present tells you. Sometimes, it's okay to look at things with a fresh face and be pleasantly surprised, .

Doesn't hurt that Gesahl sounds really cool too, hehe! Team effort!

X'sato Gesahl X'sato Green Because Chocobo = Gesahl Greens

This post was just a whole lot of new evidence for why I love you crazy 1.0 players, .
-
Do it, . The Seeker first name is what is more interesting anyway! I absolutely love the animal tribe prefixes and am very happy SE let us put apostrophes in our names for it. Also, your rationale behind having a different surname is solid. Maybe you can have a surname related to profession (Tanner, Smith, Miller... that style) because it made it easier for the primary earner to be recognized for her craft.

I think the choice between them will eventually become one more of culture and less of game economy/mechanics, particularly as time equalizes the numerical differences which cause contention. For my choice, it is my belief that the unique events surrounding this game and its relaunch have created an incredible community culture among the 1.0 players which is both welcoming and accepting, a rarity in MMO RP. (Zarek says "surprising," which is another good word for it.) The amount of time and effort spent on this site to catch new people up with the game's story and lore, the amazing organization and cooperation between the IC linkshells (with published meeting minutes!), and every post and PM I've had the privilege of receiving from the 1.0 players convince me that I need to be a part of that unusual culture with all of these fantastic people. To me, that's what the essence of MMORP really is, the people, not the game system. Characters on both servers will have their chances to create, their chances to contribute, and their chances to make their marks upon Eorzea and the community, so in the end, the only difference I see is that Balmung will carry forward that 1.0 culture while Gilgamesh is still much more of a wildcard with the possibility of inheriting a culture from a different game, depending on the player composition there. It's not a bad thing; as much as I'd like for everyone to be together in the same sandbox, particularly for the long haul when the numbers dwindle a little on both servers, I also understand that certain cultures are not for everyone, so it may be for the best to have them separated. I'm lucky in that I know the Balmung culture is the one I thrive best in. (Which was not the case in GW2, but was the case on my server in WoW, but not on the other servers in WoW, etc.) And since culture is such a subjective thing, I also advocate that you try both in equal measure to see which suits your preferred style better. Don't ever believe the grass is greener until you experience it for yourself. (An axiom for any server-divided rp community, I feel.)

A Spanish player whose nick is Koko...? Did you perhaps play in Pandora? (Just in case you did, I'm Lily!). I apologize if that's not the case; I guess I'm too excited to find familiar faces here ^^; As for the topic itself, another Spanish RPer here, server of choice will be Balmung. I wonder if EU players could do anything to keep in contact. Maybe a Linkshell or something? I don't know how those work because I'm still a newbie at the game, but I've heard you can join more than one. You can join 8 and see and participate in the chat for all of them AT THE SAME TIME! Exciting, . Just don't forget to colour differentiate them! Not EU, but GMT +8 and rolling on Balmung,

Hey Mikhai'a! Welcome to the non-lurking side of the RPC! I had a lot of fun playing with you earlier, so I hope you find the staying power in the game you're looking for and keep on with us in the long haul!

-weeps for you- Ehehehe. I love diversity,

As near or far as you'd like! Something I'm noticing in the writing of FFXIV is that the races/species are rarely locked up by confining traits. In the same way as you have all kinds of people in real life who come from all kinds of circumstances, the same is true here. There are dainty city miqo'te, hardy city miqo'te, swarthy miqo'te pirates, poacher miqo'te, erudite scholar miqo'te, trader miqo'te... everything. I've even seen miqo'te (and all other races) among the ranks of the Empire! So it'll be the same with tradition: some will have steered away, some will have kept and adhered, others will now believe that all the miqo'te of Eorzea are heathen scum who must be crushed under-heel in a glorious crusade... The field really is very open, . I just visited Limsa Lominsa and the miqo'te there are frightening! Hanging off the arms of pirates and flirting with sailors!! They have forgotten themselves! /trauma ;;

This is correct! Nunh/Tia tradition belongs with the Seekers, who track lineage through paternal lines. Keepers of the Moon track lineage through maternal lines. Other than that quirk, both clans seem matriarchal in nature (with males as previously too shy/cloistered/rare/protected/endangered to be allowed out into the world).

Heh, 'alpha' is a misnomer. You notice how we make the men fight to prove they're good enough? Seeker women don't have to prove a thing. We're the real alphas here! 8-)

BLAME C'ANADA Sygrina's the reason why I'll be making C'io's eyes more amber-gold in Phase 4. She has a good eye! She doesn't like my nose, though, . I'm glad you're here, Syg! People here are lovely and they're even -nicer- in the game! Mind blown. Let's run around with our silly CEs together! (Akihiko Yoshida artbook, I can't say no; I can only say BUY.)
-
She'll have the golden colour when it's time for live/launch. I tried both to see which I liked more and gold won, haha. (I'm pretending that the last two are camera red-eye for now, >_>) Thanks! I was worried when there weren't any sliders, but it seems there are plenty of permutations to exploit regardless, .

My Seeker miqo'te, C'io! Was so excited to make her that I stayed up much, much too late, >_>. Really pleased with how she turned out! desert camo height comparison

That works too! You could be someone trying to establish his own tribe!
-
Or since K' makes a Koo sound, you could be C'anko or C'nko, but have taken on the Hyur-friendly name of Kanko, . As for surname, you can also just have assigned yourself an ADVENTURING NAME, so don't feel too constrained to remain Tia or Nuhn if you don't want to be.

Lore for Miqo'te: Other than the blurbs found in character creation, these were the two most useful resources for me. Naming Conventions! With underpinnings of social norms. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61150-Miqo-te-Naming-Conventions More things about names, which also leads to Ferne (one of the lorekeepers) posting into the thread with very good bits of Seeker culture. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61187-Male-Sunseeker-Miqo-Surnames End of 1.0 Lore and lead-up to current game situation. Outlines the events and war of five years ago. Invaluable if you're just walking in. The video is also choked with how FFXIV people speak. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1615 Hope that helps!

I know *the guys* from our other place will be going to Balmung, so I think you should go to Balmung too, . Unless you don't want to be with *the guys*, then I guess Gilgamesh. IMPORTANT QUESTION: What's your tribe totem, shy monkster!
-
I know both you and Kanko, >_>. Welcome to the RPC! Hehe.

I. Basic Info Character: C'io Behkt (Seeker Miqo'te) Linkshells: Nexus Exiles Primary RP linkshell: None yet II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium-to-Heavy. Even when I'm not actively RPing, I'm typically engaging in the character's rich inner life, hehe. In the off-hours you might catch me looking ridiculous as I leap idly in place or onto crates, but give me a nudge and I'll fall right back into character! Views on RP combat and injuries: I believe in the story: promoting events, circumstances, injuries, victories, or losses which will help drive the story forward is important to me. OOC communication is too. I find that it is usually a bad story if someone is always forced to lose, if someone is always pushing to win, if hard fights are won easily, or if wounds heal too quickly (although arguable given magical healing). I believe that RP combat requires trust and faith in the other player to do what is dramatic and interesting for the story with respect for the story and the other player's ability to continue to play their character freely after the fight. Trust is what lets you, literally, roll with the punches and accept the damage it brings. Views on IC romance: If it happens, it happens. It's a part of life, so it can also be part of a character's life. This includes all the unfortunate tragedies that romance can also bring, like one-sided love and eventual falling outs. As long as it remains a facet of a character's life and not the whole of a character's raison d'etre, IC romance can be positive. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Isn't this the everything else of RP? I don't think I've ever played with family ties closer than "distant cousin" before, but everything else--from friends to associates to officers to subordinates to rivals--is where the real meat of roleplay rests for me. My experience with interconnections between other characters and mine is that they are often unplanned, spontaneous, born of an evolving story of interaction, and something beautiful to be discovered. Always organic, never (too) scripted. It's why I want to play with other people and not just play by myself. Views on lore: I love lore. I love searching for it and archiving it and playing to it. I love finding the gaps and imagining what might exist between the lines. I love continuity, which is why, if you remember my response to RP Combat, I am the person who silently keeps track of the win-to-loss ratio. Continuity is important, not only within the established lore, but also within the story that's been told so far. But I also know that we can't always be perfect--the game might contradict our intepretations with new content, we might have to change parts of our character for OOC reasons--and that is okay also. That we can retcon and edit our characters is a true gift, but one we should use responsibly. It's also okay to deviate from lore, but I find that the best deviations are the ones which do so in respect to the lore and to logic. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I'll admit, I find prose RP, wherein the participants write paragraphs in novel format, very jarring. My preferred method of RP is through an organic blend of /say and /emote, though I understand how that can be difficult sometimes in larger group gatherings. For OOC chat, I tend to stick to /party and /tells, unless responding to a non-RPer asking a question in /say. III. Other Info Country: OH CANADA The Philippines Timezone: GMT+8, though my soul and playtime is still EST Contact info: PM or in-game tell! There are also some fantasy/science-fiction universes in which cross-breeding occurs, but the offspring is always 100% the mother's species.
